I chose this tea room to surprise my daughter for her 30th birthday celebration. The personnel at The Johnston House were so very helpful and seem to appreciate how important this event was to us. Everyone was so helpful and kind. They even offered us a larger, beautiful room with a gorgeous decorated mantle to pose for a group photo that they took for us! The only element that was higher than the tea, the decorations, and the service, was the food...delicious!! There were rave reviews from all my guests!!

I have always been a coffee drinker and then only one or two cups in the morning. I heard of Sensibiliteas from a co-worker and with the holiday season and gifts to buy for my better half, had to go see what it was all about. What a great place! Donna Lynn is very personable and a true tea expert. It was her expertise and ability to invest a novice (me) with the tea culture and lingo that made it a truly enriching experience. My wife loved the Christmas gifts and we are now regulars. I look forward to the evenings so that we can brew up a new blend and unwind together. The hardest part is deciding what type and flavor of tea to choose, but this also makes it easy to return to the store as there are so many teas available. I highly recommend Sensibiliteas to anyone who feels that they deserve a little reward at the end of each day.

My group of 13 (including 3 children) had a birthday tea over the holidays. Everything was fabulous, especially the service! The ladies made the little girls feel so special with their own plates. The adult treats were great too. I've been to many different teas in San Diego and Shakespeare's is the most authentic English tea. My daughter loved the PG Tips tea and my mother was raving about the Gunpowder. The scones and cream were terrific. And the ladies brought me bread pudding with a candle and sang Happy Birthday. We all plan to go back.

My 4-year old daughter hosted a Teddy Bear tea for 7 of her friends for Christmas. The children loved the sandwiches shaped liked teddy bears, the delicious homemade cookies, and dressing in their fanciest dresses. As a parent I appreciated the patience Bonnie took to show the children proper etiquette at the table. Bonnie's original teddy bear story, the teddy bear the children received from Bonnie, and a surprise visit from Santa made this a memorable experience for all of us. She far exceeded all of my expectations. I would also recommend this as a wonderful setting for a special birthday.

I found the on site bakery both a positive AND a negative. It was nice to find a tea place with such delicious desserts, but quite distracting from the ambience to have it in the main room. The service was slow, perhaps because of the holiday, and it was very noisy. It is very pricey, but I think they are trying to achieve a European atmosphere that reflects this, but falls short. For a similar, yet better, experience at the same price, try one of the hotel lobby tea places in San Francisco.

I was initially excited to have a new cafe open up across the street from my work, but upon my first visit to @spot cafe, I was horribly disappointed to say the least. The service was poor, the helpings were meager, and the prices were outrageous. I thought maybe they just needed to work out the kinks of opening a new business, so I gave them another shot a few months after they opened. The service was even poorer this time. They were all out of soup, even though it was the lunch hour, and my panini was extremely soggy and subpar for inflated prices. I honestly wish this place could pull it together, as it is so convenient to my work building, but I'm pretty sure I will never go back to find out.

My friends and I went to have afternoon tea. This time, we decided to try a new place called August Tea Room all the way in Livermore. I don't think I'd recommend this place. We all ordered the Lady Lety's Tea which was a five course service. The first course was a very bland salad which included lettuce that wasn't even cut up so we spent what seemed like forever sawing it up with our fork. The second course was the nastiest tasting corn soup ever. I think if you just dump out a can of creamed corn you'd get better tasting soup. The third course was the tea sandwiches which were a major disappointment...all of the breads had a staley quality to them and were dry and flaky. We were all hesitant to finish the one with ham because it tasted a bit off. The fourth course kind of redeemed itself with the fresh baked scones but you kind of expect scones to taste good at a tea service. The fifth and final course were the cookies and mini desserts. Eh. A KFC parfait tasted better than them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My tea was pretty good at first. But instead of being able to take the leaves out of the water, they just left them in the pot the entire time and refilled it with hot water. So by the end, the tea was bland and old tasting. And usually, at other tea rooms, they let you taste more than one kind of tea...not this place. Not only was it a bit pricey, but they made a mistake with the check and were quite loud about it needing to be corrected. It wasn't like I wasn't going to pay for the correction, but please, use the indoor tea drinking voice! Not a good experience at all and I'm usually pretty easy to satisfy.

The best thing about this tea room is the cute decor. As for the service and food, I was very disappointed. My tea was strong and bitter and most of the food was from Costco. We had Diamonds and Chrome come out and do our office Christmas party. They did their White Christmas tea. It was lovely! It was so nice for us to be waited on, spoiled and pampered! We truly felt we were royalty taking tea time. Our office is still talking about Diamonds and Chrome tea party. The staff was very attentive, the food was exquisite, the theme was delightful! I highly recommend Diamonds and Chrome for any event!

What an incrediable home and artistry the owners have. The tour and tea was outstanding and can't wait to come back to our favorite place in Elizabeth City. Her hospitality is the best and lives up to the name of Harbor of Hospitality. Her lessons on antiques and history is one not to miss, plus the delicious cusine afterwards served on her Great-Grandmothers hand-painted china from 1863 is not to be missed. Anyone looking for something to do while staying or visiting here,or if you just plain live here, do not miss this one. You will not be disappoionted.

I had high hopes when I saw the cute exterior of this house, but couldn't have been more disappointed. The gift items scattered about are poor quality and over priced, the table we had by the window had patio chairs to sit in, and the menu was dictated by what the owner had on hand that day to serve. If you want choices, quality tea, and more than cheese spread on crackers for savories, go somewhere else.

If you want lunch this isn't a bad place, but for a true tea experience, it just doesn't measure up. It is noisy, has clunky cheap porcelain teapots, and you are packed in their small dining room like sardines.

Wow, I am not sure where the last reviewer ate but it couldn't possible have been Englund's. I know for a fact that Chef Duane personally makes the lemon curd, strawberry jam and Devonshire cream as well as every item offered on the menu, scones to sandwiches. Englund's food has become a favorite of mine because the chef takes such pride in providing wonderful meals to the point that many other restaurants do not even compare in taste and quality. During the holidays, many new holiday tea blends were offered as well as all of the normal selections from Assam to Darjeeling and English Breakfast. While the owners truly do care about each of their customer's experiences and have no doubt made many friends in the process, I don't think that you could be rated the #4 tearoom on the site with just your friends posting. I would hazzard a guess and say 'Emma' might possibly be a competitor trying to increase her own business. Please do give Englund's a try for yourself to experience what a delight it truly is.

Last Friday, I enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Cambridge Tea Room with my mother and a dear friend. Our server was very pleassant and attentive to our needs. The dining area was attractive, and beautiful Christmas music filled the air. My mother is on a gluten-free diet and can no longer enjoy scones or tea sandwiches. The large menu selection at Cambridge offers a wide variety from which she can choose. We each ordered the Scottish quiche served with fresh fruit. We chose the Nutcracker Suite tea. Everything was delicious and attractively served. This was my sixth visit to the Cambridge Team Room, and I look forward to returning in the near future.

We took our first grade Brownie troop to high tea on a Sunday afternoon a couple weeks ago. The price for children is extremely reasonable, only about $4 per child. Adults are about $10. They made special tea sandwiches for the children, pb&j and grilled cheese along with some of the traditional offerings, like egg salad. The adults had quite a variety of sandwiches - smoked salmon was my personal favorite. Plenty of cakes and scones as well! Everyone enjoyed the fantastic selection of tea and we found the service to be very good in terms of accommodating us, not very knowledgable, however each child received a small goody bag, which was a very nice touch! It is too bad that high tea is not offered more frequently, we really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to going again. The ambiance was special because we were there close to Christmas, other times of year don't expect too much in terms of frills. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves despite the lack of a more 'personal touch' you get at most smaller, independent tearooms.

Read the other reviews and you'll see that most of them are written by locals who are friends of the owners. I'm sure this is a fun place for Clayton with its cute kitchy look; but if you're not local, do yourself a favor and don't make the drive, particularly if you're a true tea lover. The teas are all sorts of fruity weird blends; the scones are heavy and soggy and served with canned lemon curd. The 'clotted cream' isn't even whipped cream, but some variation of cool whip. The sandwiches are stale and the desserts from Trader Joes (good half frozen petit fours). Go to the Captain's Cottage in Pinole for a similar setting but way better value and quality.

I have been to the 'other' tea rooms in the area. August Tea Room does not even compare to these two others. Lety does a superb job of making your visit special. Friendly, comfortable, and always ready to please. A great place to relax and enjoy your time there. I definitely be back and will be telling my friends about The August Tea Room.

My 11 year old daughter just had her birthday party at the Milk N' Honey and we enjoyed it so much! From the warm welcome to all 15! girls, to the dress up armoire, to the gorgeous high tea--all was enchanting!
