I really recommend Abigail's Tea House. On my annual vacation to Reading, PA.my aunt takes me to High Tea. The food is excellent from the scones, soup, salad, tea sandwiches and desserts. Also the help is very nice to us, especially Rita who usually serves us. Katie, 8 1/2 years old, from Baltimore, Maryland.

You have a wonderful Aunt Jan! ..We love both of you.. And with any luck, I'll have the photos of you and Aunt Jan, up on Facebook soon!...Hope to see you next summer...Rita

The rooms are so beautifully decorated, the soft music puts you into a total relaxed mood, the food is presented in such a great way and is always fresh and delicious. It is a truly special place that is impossible to replicate. Love, Love it!

My friends and I enjoyed High Afternoon Tea today at Abigail's Tearoom. Wide variety of black, green, white and herbal brews available. (I had Exotic Mango). We enjoyed scones and blueberry tea bread. Soup and salad. Five different tea sandwiches and several petite desserts. The ambiance of the three story Victorian home is beautiful as well as the tablescapes. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The gift shop has many tea items and beautiful jewelry and fashion accessories. Highly recommend for a very Victorian Tea experience!

My friends and I visited Abigail's today for high tea. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The ambiance of the place is wonderful. All the rooms were so much fun to wander through and admire the decorations. The food is excellent and offers much variety. I had the ginger peach tea and loved it. But there is a large selection of teas to choose from - blacks, whites, herbals, and greens. And after a leisurely relaxing tea, we wandered through the gift shop.

Abigail's Tea Room is an experience like no other. The moment you enter their door, you are transported to another time. From their Victorian atmosphere to their tasty teas, and treats a delightful time is promised for all. My first experience at Abigail's was when my daughters treated me to a Mother's Day High Tea. The next time I went with my daughters and sister in-law to celebrate my sister in-law's birthday. Today I went back with two friend's from work for a girl's day out. No matter the occasion Abigail's is the perfect place to celebrate.

A wonderful early Mother's Day experience for my Mom and Myself!!! Beautiful , elegant rooms that breathe the tranquilty and luxury of less hurried times of the past. The afternoon tea that we ordered was both artistically prepared and delicious. We had a wonderful 'mother ,daughter day' at Abigails, and will definitely return ! That May surrounded the house and the city of Reading with white and pastel blossoms just added to the beauty of the day! Thank you from your German friends!

Abigail's is favorite destination for a friend and I when we meet for tea. The staff is warm and hospitable, the tea is excellent, with a wide variety of black, green, white, and herbal brews available, along with decaf options. The setting is true Victorian, and the food is delicious, from scones and pastries to quiches and sandwiches and soups (served in teacups) and salads. The best part is that you can sit for hours and visit with your companions, sipping tea and nibbling on the goodies that keep arriving. There's also a very nice gift shop, with items a person might really want to purchase! I highly recommend this spot.

My family and I have been going to tearooms for many years, and I have found the one I love the most...........'Abigail's Tearoom'. Abigail's has it all. Great variety of teas, and delicious, homemade, always fresh food. The staff is very accommodating knowledgeable , and friendly. The ambience of the three story Victorian home is absolutely wonderful. You feel like you stepped into the 19th Century. Right now, it is decorated for Valentine's Day.......Beautiful red hearts, red, white, and pink flowers abound the house. I didn't mention the 'Gift Shop'. My all time favorite place to buy tea 'stuff', and very beautiful jewelry. Knick-knacks, and very beautiful jewelry.......LOL. I highly recommend this enchanting teahouse. Kudos to Rita, Beverley, and Sue.(and the others. I don't know all their names). Thank you for making us feel like Royalty......

Delicious tea sandwiches and small servings of several desserts come with the High Tea, preceded by a crisp salad and a cup of excellent soup. There are 3 soups to choose from. Victorian setting, decorated charmingly for the holiday season. And to top it off a fabulous gift shop. I wanted to buy one of everything. We had a lovely experience at Abigail's Tea Room. The tea was fantastic. We both had the apricot peach tea and we loved it. The pot came with a cozy so the tea stayed warm. It was a generous pot of tea and not a little stingy pot. We also enjoyed the lovely Victorian decor which set a wonderful atmosphere for our tea. The Victorian decor was more historically authentic at this tea room and not 'cutesy'. I loved it!

My daughter and I both loved the soup. We each had a different one. It was wonderful and came out nice and hot. We also really enjoyed the tea sandwiches too. There were some that we had never had before. I particularly like the one with apricot in it. Everything was tasty and served in a beautiful fashion. My granddaughter and I were transported back into time as we enjoyed the very elegant Royal Tea. One of the things that struck me was some of the little details that makes for a successful tea. For example - the temperature of the tea and soup - Hot! The tea pots were large and sported tea cozies. My first choice of tea, recommended by Sue, was not for me but she cheerfully swapped it out for the French Vanilla which was amazing. We added 2 sugar cubes and a dollop of honey (we asked for that) and it was rich and full-bodied. We loved it. The tea bread and scones were miniature in size, as is usual in a Victorian style tea. The dollops of sweet cream and preserves were also tiny but adequate and artfully presented. The soup was amazing - a creamy potato bacon. After that came a nice-sized ... (more)

The inside decor is breathtaking and immediately takes you back in time. My friend and I were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in the door. The tea selection was extensive and we were able to sample two kinds.... Both delicious. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our table setting and china was gorgeous. And the food was fabulous and plentiful. The service was excellent and very friendly. Upon our arrival, the owner was talking to an employee and never looked up to greet us. After waiting several minutes, she eventually looked up, asked our name, then scolded us for being 10 minutes late. She spent the next 10 minutes 'looking' for a table for 5 of us. The entire place had one other party of four!!! Then we were told we could only order 3 pots of tea for the 5 of us. It's a Tea Room!!! The waitress looked mad from the time she approached our table. She never smiled the entire time. The soup was good, but it was downhill from there. The tea sandwiches were tastelass. They had virtually nothing on them. The bread was dry. We were each given one teeny tiny scone on a plate. No more were included. The deserts were tastless, dry and not at all interesting. I would never go back to this dusty, tired old palce with crabby, senile, old ladies running it.

- Pat Murray Jan 11th '14

Tearoom Response
Pat..I am very sorry that you felt your visit was this bad. Frankly I just don't understand it at all, as told this way. I have never scolded anyone, although I may have mentioned you were almost 20 minutes late and we do understand, that many times with traffic, that can always happen. The problem was all our other tables were reserved for a large group coming in and since we try and give all our quest a full 2 hours to enjoy tea with Abigails, your table may have had to be changed to another so you would have that quality time with your quest. On busy days even 10 or 20 minutes late can become a problem. But I did seat you at a very nice large table and yes I 'suggested' a 3 pot limit on your table but, I also explained why. That is because 5 pots of tea on the table with all the other food we do bring for each quest, your table would be to cluttered and there would be no room for the tiered individule servers we bring each quest. However, I always tell my tables that we will refill your your pots with the same flavor or a different flavor and that they you will never run out of tea! And I do know we made a lot more pots of tea for your table and we were happy to do so.

As for the rest of your comments about the food, my staff and the old ladies running it, I guess it is best left alone. All in all it was a bad experience for you and I can't change that but I am truly sorry we did not meet your expetations on this day.

This is the second time I have been to Abigail's Tea Room for there Victorian Candle Light Christmas Tea. The food was very good we had the five course tea. First course was scones and tea bread w/ sweet cream and jelly. 2nd course was bowl of Soup DeJour, 3rd course toss salad w/ choice of dressing, 4th course was 5 different tea sandwiches w/ fruit and cream puff swan and choice of dessert. My only recommendation would be that they would have more wait staff. Our waitress seem very busy and we had to ask for some things like cream and tea refills. I also think the gift shop could offer more tea related items.

- Mary Abrahms, Pottstown Nov 17th '13

Tearoom Response
Mary..sorry you could not get a reservation. there were however black out dates stated on your living social coupon and may have been a factor. and november and december are extremly busy months for us..we suggest make reservations at leat 10 day or more in advance because many days we are sold out with no tables left..We have many, many children that enjoy tea hear at Abigail's Tea Room, although we do not have a children's menu or high chairs. and we prefer no child under age of 5 be brought to tea, they are just to young to sit and enjoy.

Seven years ago when we opened Abigail's I believed the right music playing in the background was essential to our guests enjoying their dining pleasure with us.
