Variety: We had Anna Beall's cater our wedding reception (themed tea party). At the initial tasting, it was difficult sorting through all the delicious choices, but knowledgeable staff helped us choose a well-balanced menu, including hot and iced teas, tea sandwiches, scones, quiche, tarts, italian torte with crostini, and other small snacks. On the day of, staff arrived on time and set up a beautiful display, which was maintained throughout the event. The tasty treats were placed on cute silver platters and unique mirrors amidst displays of fresh fruits and vegetables. Reviews from guests were nothing but spectacular, with rave reviews of the wasabi tuna spoons and iced chai tea. If you are looking for catering for a tea themed party, I would absolutely recommend Anna Beall's. Everything was perfect, with nothing to worry about except eating food and being merry. |

Variety: My husband and I are looking for great tea houses in NJ after having a wonderful experience at a tea house in Cape Cod. We are very impressed with Ana Bealle's. I guess the prices are standard from what you expect from a tea house. Our server was so attentive. Im so sorry, but we are never good at remembering people's names. The place is very cozy, warm and inviting. Most people think that tea houses are only for the 'sophisticated', but Ana Bealle's is NEVER intimidating. Im just sad that we live 25 miles away from Westfield, but I just loved the experience. We are looking forward to visiting Ana Bealle's despite the distance. I think its worth the drive. |

Variety: I HAVE BEEN TO MANY TEAROOMS ....THIS PLACE IS BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED IN A FORMAL STYLING....FOOD ALTHOUGH TASTY HAS VERY SMALL PORTIONS....TEA SANWICHES TASTE GOOD BUT HAD A SLIM SPREAD OF FOOD..WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT THE TEA CUCUMBER SANDWICHES CAME PLAIN..JUST CUCUMBER ON BREAD?? SHE MAKES DELICIOUS SCONCES....BUT DESSERT PORTIONS ARE TINY...BARELY A BITE..WAS SURPRISED....VERY UNEXPECTED TO SEE THE SERVICE WEAR...TEA IS BETTER IN PORCELIAN CUPS HERE THEY LOOK LIKE DINER COFFEE CUPS...LIKE THE FOOD BUT FOR THE PRICE THE PORTIONS SHOULD BE BETTER... |

Variety: Overall disappointing - not a bad place for lunch, but high tea left much to be desired. Sandwiches were plain (all white bread), and lacking flavor. Loose tea selection sounded good, but again flavor was lacking, at least in the 2 we chose. Scone was ordinary, but no clotted/devonshire cream to accompany. Desserts were miniscule, and presentation was institutional. |

Variety: The staff was very attentive--had soup and salad and had the staff surprise me with the selection of tea since there were so many choices. Will be back tomorrow with several friends. |

Variety: We celebrated a birthday at Ana Beall's Tea Room yesterday. We were eight ladies and we all had nothing but superlatives for our experience. The tea house is charming, the tea and scones, cakes and tea sandwiches were all out of this world. I think the general consensus was that not one person in our group had ever had a better scone. The service was top-notch; attentive but never intrusive. Our tea experience at Ana Beall's far exceeded our expectations. I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone looking for a charming and lovely experience....and out-of-this-world scones!! |

Variety: After looking at places in both New York and Northern New Jersey for a last minute place to have a Bridal Shower Tea party, I was becoming very disheartened. The places were either overpriced or too small for 20 people. Luckily, I came across Ana Beall’s Tea Room while googling Tea Rooms in Northern Jersey. I immediately called them and reached the proprietor, Nancy Baker. I told Nancy all of my issues, including only having 1 week to put together a shower. Nancy was great and gave me ideas of what other people have done in the past. She scheduled me in right away and walked me through what my tea party would be like. She suggested tea and sandwich pairings including her very own fried chicken on a blue cheese biscuit. On the day of the shower the bride was very late arriving... (more) |

Variety: My girlfriend and I visited this tearoom yesterday. I ordered the afternoon tea and she had the quiche. The food was really great, and the overall presentation was impeccable. The scones and curry chicken sandwiches were delicious. We both had a really wonderful time and plan to become frequent visitors! |

Variety: Hi all, Just thought I'd let you know that I had lunch with some friends at Ana Beall's Tea Room, yesterday. It was wonderful. The food and service were great. The decor of the tea room was beautiful and bright. > > I had a porto bello mushroom sandwich which was very filling and flavorful. My guests had the arugalla and artichoke salad and the quiche. The fourth person of the party had chicken on a bed of greens which was not on the menu, so obviously they can accomodate special requests. > > For dessert we had a basket of daily breads and the scones and muffins were to die for. > > I hope you all get a chance to go one of these days. By the way, there were a number of men who were there with wives and girlfriends, too. > Pat |

Variety: The crispc clean ambiance with quotations about tea gracing the walls, classical background music and simple white china set the mood and allow you to focus on the the real stars of the tearoom, the tea and menu selections. Priced on a par with other similar establishments offerings are varied--salads, sandwiches, and traditional 'high tea'. The scones are excellent--warm and fluffy. The selection of tea and herbal infusions ample and the service I experienced excellent. Though my personal preference might be for loose tea, the bagged variety did not detract from the overall experience. I'll be back, not only to watch this new tearoom (just a few months old) grow and mature...but also for the 'Hot Chocolate Soup' dessert or maybe the Mascarpone Mousse......Life is full of hard choices. |

Variety: I just vistied this tea house with my mom today. I am so glad that i found a tea place so close to home. The food was GREAT! And while i understand the downstairs is a bit little, the upstairs is very roomy. Even though being small downstairs the staff and customers make it all worthwhile. The owner is a VERY nice lady and i look forward to going there again! |

Variety: Nothing special at all in the food dept. Tea sandwiches were dry and bland and the desserts lackluster. I expected better and was very disappointed. Scones were good although small and there was no clotted cream. |

Tearoom Response
Hello Betsey,I am sorry you were disappointed with your tea, and a little surprised, as we usually get so many good comments on our tea. However, we respect each person's experience is informed by their individual tastes, and hope that we will be able to do better for you next time you visit. That said, I did want to offer one small correction - we do indeed offer clotted cream, as well as butter and jam with our tea service. We make our own clotted cream, and I apologize if you did not receive any with your tea service, as it is delivered with all our afternoon and high tea orders, and can be requested at an additional charge if you order a scone by itself. All the best, Nancy |
|
Variety: I love this place. I've never tried the food, but I have been in for tea and scones, which are both wonderful. My only complaint is the pricing. The cream tea, which includes a pot of tea and a scone with cream and jam, is about ten dollars. But if you order a pot of tea and a plain scone on the side, it's only about five dollars! I think paying another five dollars for a small bit of cream and jam is not worth it. I would suggest that the restaurant change their prices or maybe include two scones if that's more price effective for the restaurant. |

Tearoom Response
Hi LK,Thanks for your kind comments. In point of fact, our scones have been quite underpriced since we opened (compared to other locations that offer scones which are usually smaller, and not in the least bit fresh from the oven). Our cream tea includes the butter, jam, clotted cream, and of course, an endless pot of high-quality loose-leaf tea. If you check pricing for a cream tea at other tea rooms in NJ, you will find that our price is competitive with this same offering elsewhere. When going for tea, of course, we hope to provide you with more than just food, and that you will find you are able to enjoy your tea served to you by attentive staff, and in an unhurried environment. All the best, Nancy |

Variety: I've been visiting my boyfriend who lives in nearby Cranford for years and never knew that this gem existed. The staff was so courteous, even taking our jackets when we came in. The decor was inviting and it felt more like sitting in a friend's living room than a restaurant. The food was simply done but tasted amazing. I highly recommend the lemon chicken sandwich. My only complaint would be the tea. They use filter bags in rather large pots which results in a pretty weak tea. I had the formosa oolond and it definately could have been better. I would have prefered if they left the leaves loose and used pots with filters instead. I'm picky about my tea though. I will definately be back again. |

Tearoom Response
Hi Nicole,I am glad you enjoyed your experience, and we look forward to seein gyou again soon. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your formosa oolong, and while we do use filter bags (to allow people to remove the leaves if they wish to stop the steeping), of course, an oolong can be steeped more than once without introducing the bitterness one might find with a black tea. If you let your server know your preference, we can certainly give you loose leaves and a strainer upon request. Thanks again for letting us know. Nancy |

Variety: loved this new tea room in Westfield. Atmosphere is cozy, intimate, and inviting while service and food are fantastic. If you love high tea, finger sandwiches, amazing soup, and pastries, this is the place for you! |

Variety: I'm not much of a tearoom snob so I maybe I'm not a review you would be looking for but for atmosphere, service and great food and tea, AB's provided an extraordinary experience for me my granddaughter Mattie and her doll, Lizzie. We loved the cozy feel of the room. The Butternut soup, recommended by our lovely wait person, the curried chicken salad and Earl Grey (for me) tea was an experience I won't forget. Neither will Mattie and Lizzie because we booked Mattie's birthday party there in the spring and it shall be quite the 'affair.' |

Variety: I recently visited AB's last week with my husband, and was far from pleased. Upon entering the establishment, there was no one to seat us. After a few minutes of waiting, someone finally sat us in the corner. This place is SMALL, and the tables are on top of each other--not conducive for a private tea experience. I order a salmon dish, which came out dry, lacking flavor, and presented in a average-if-best manner. Our server was very abrupt and not helpful with suggestions or answering our questions. She seemed as if she was in a rush to get out of the place. They do have quite a selection of tea, but as I see mentioned on here as well, nothing is provided to remove the tea from the pot to withhold it from steeping for too long. Therefore, not only was I not able to enjoy my meal, but after... (more) |

Variety: I have been to Ana Beall's several times and each time it was truly wonderful. On my first visit I was served a pumpkin/chocolate bread that actually brought tears to my eyes! Two of my very favorite foods in one bite - it was just too good to be true. The crab cakes are absolutely wonderful. Frankly, every item I have had at this Tea Room has just been extraordinary. I very much appreciate that they offer vegetarian items as well. The atmosphere is quite elegant and adds to the superb dining experience. I highly recommend this tea room! |

Variety: I dropped into Ana Beall's with my mother a couple of weeks back. We have been to a few different tea rooms, and we have come to understand that a lovely teaparty is all about. Unfortunately, this new establishment in Westfield fell short. Although you can tell this business is still very new and figuring things out, these are the things that I noticed while taking tea there. The tea selection list failed to give a description of the taste. The leaves were left in the pot, without anywhere to put the bag once you wanted to stop steeping... leaving the last cup of tea very bitter. Being that we both ordered the tea with the soup and 3 tiered tray, we also sampled a good portion of the food that is offered. The soup was tasty, no doubt about it. However, the tea sandwiches were not cr... (more) |

Variety: My recent visit to Ana Beall's was an unexpected surprise. After a day of shopping in downtown Westfield, my girlfriend and I spotted the sweet house and ducked in for some tea and a snack. We were seated upstairs, in beautiful golden room with tasteful decor and were presented with a dynamic tea menu. The teas offered were both exotic and traditional. I opted for a flowering tea, I beleive it was called White Symphony, that unfurled as it steeped. It was a delightful experience. We dined on exquisite muffins and scones while waiting for our salads. The food was superb! Service was great, the lady was informative and pleasant and allowed us plenty of time to enjoy our tea and each other's company. This will be a tradition for us each year, before hurrying home with our Christmas packages. Thank you, Ana Beall's, for the memorable experience! |

Variety: I knew I was forgetting something in my last review... another suggestion. While clotted cream would be nice in a British Teahouse, butter is certainly acceptable, but it should be served warm or at least room temperature, not right out of the refrigerator--it's simply unspreadable that way. I'm still thinking about the delicious scones, but warm butter would have made the experience even nicer. |

Variety: Anna Beall’s is a cozy, modern place. I’m not sure what makes it “British” but it is not formal, so it is probably better described as British rather than Victorian. First and foremost, the food is incredible. Savory scones, salads, and quiche were quite memorable and unexpectedly excellent, and the muffins were heavenly (despite being baked and served in paper cups). The tea selection, while not enormous, was excellent and unique. Even the lumps of sugar were unique… were the brown ones crystallized honey? I do have a few suggestions regarding service. First, regardless of the type of establishment or level of formality, napkins should be cloth. The tea was placed in a filter bag rather than loose, which is fine, but there was no place to put the bag once it had steeped... (more) |

Tearoom Response
Hello J.C,I am glad you enjoyed the food, and appreciate your suggestions for improving our service. I just wanted to let you know the sugar is not honey - merely 'rough cut sugar cane cubes' -- not terribly common here in the US, but in Europe, this is usually how I have seen sugar brought to table in restaurants, and I have always enjoyed watching them slowly melt in my tea! Look forward to seeing you again soon. Best, Nancy |

Variety: The grand opening was a delightful and festive occasion of warmly soothing tea, tasty snacks, and fascinating conversation. I'm not sure which is better, the tea service, or the people connected with this establishment. One definitely gets the sense that these people are not only highly civilized but also intellectually and artistically accomplished. If that's true of the owners and their friends, then certainly their tea room will attract clients of the same caliber. I wouldn't be surprised to come back and find poets scribbling in corner tables, inspired by the subtly sensuous flavors lightly gracing their palates. Every aspect of this tea experience expresses the high art of civilization, from the friendly ambience of the rooms and modestly cheerful staff, to the tea which graceful... (more) |

Variety: Ana Bealls Tea Room is a great treasure in the central New Jersey. The decor is very inviting, the tea is outstanding and the food is delicious. My wife and I attended the grand opening and recently visited the tea room for high tea. The grand opening provided visitors with a taste of its numerous specialty teas and pastries. The high tea was exceptional. The quality of its pastries, sandwiches, soup and tea was impressive. The décor provided us a quiet place to enjoy the food and our conversation. With a very reasonable price tag for everything they serve, the quality of the experience and the convenient location, it is definitely a great place for everyone. |

Variety: Super cozy place, the first floor is more relaxed while the second floor is a very elegant room, where you will really enjoy having an afternoon tea. The lavender back room seems more polyvalent, probably a good spot for a business meeting or a birthday party. They have a great variety of teas; I loved the Puh-Er which was strong, rich and complex. Lastly: the food is amazing!! (you have GOT to try the three striped cookie it is ridiculously good) |

Variety: I have been to Ana Beall’s Tea Room several times now and I enjoy the place very much. The décor is well done but not over done. The shelves are filled with containers of loose tea (my favorite is the Lavender Earl Grey) and the food is extraordinary. They have two Chefs, one who specializes in pastries and the other makes all the rest of the food. The crepes are so good, they have this rich and creamy center that was just incredible, another favorite of mine is the stuffed french toast. They have a great selection of sandwiches and salads for lunch and they provide vegetarian dishes too. Catering is also available. Highly recommended. |

Variety: This is a lovely little tearoom, but I warn you.. it is LITTLE. You can only comfortably fit six or seven two person tables. Other then that, I had nothing bad to say. The food was delicious and the prices where fairly standard for a tearoom. I was slightly disappointed by the size of the teapots. For $2.95 you only received enough tea for 2 or 3 cups, but perhaps I like my tea a little too much :) The owner has plans to add a party room and retail store in the upper half of the building and I think that will make a wonderful addition. I recommend that others try the tea sandwiches. I was in love with the 'chicken curry', but they were all very good. Overall, it was a very nice experience and I intend to visit again soon. |

Tearoom Response
Hello Aubrey,I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit to our tea room, and we look forward to having you back again soon. It is unfortunate that you did not get time to take a tour of our second floor while you were here, and hopefully, you can sit upstairs on your next visit - we have 2 large rooms, plus the gift shop upstairs, with seating for up to 40. I think you sat downstairs in the cafe, as you came by on the weekend just after we opened. Thanks again for visiting us, and hope to see you again soon! Nancy |
