This was one of the best tea rooms I've ever been to. Don't let the location or attached postal/gift store fool you - it's well worth your visit and the interior is lovely. Our host, Lety, and her fine staff were the most friendly and professional I've met. They went out of their way for our group and our guest of honor - my partner's grandmother who was turning 94 - and even took our photo and printed it out before we left. The High Tea was presented gorgeously and everything was absolutely delicious. The tea selection was also one of the largest I've seen, and Lety's tea master explained the 'featured teas of the day' with expertise (a nice touch!) They have a very cute selection of fun and flowery hats for guests to wear, complimentary, to get in the mood for tea. The price was average, making this not only a worthwhile experience, but a bargain.

I hosted my daughter's sixth birthday today at the August Tea Room and I couldn't be more pleased. The event was perfect! The staff did a wonderful job with the girls. They used the two hours to the fullest from a Miss Manners class to reading a tea story. The girls had a great time and enjoyed dressing up and showing off their new manners! This is an excellent alternative to jumpie houses or pizza parlors. Truly a class act and an opportunity to introduce the finer things in life to the young ladies.

I had a wonderful birthday tea at August Tea Room. My friends and I have visited several tea places in the Bay Area. This is one of the best. The food is delicious (her ginger soup was outstanding), the ambience is gorgeous (lots of tea pots to look at) and the service is very friendly. Lety even sang me a birthday song and served free birthday sweets. We had a great time playing dress-up with all the beautiful hats she has around. The room was comfortably airconditioned. We will be back.

This was my third visit to August Tea Room, and the experience was just as great as my other visits. Lety, Arness, Leslie, Emily, and Narden all made sure the experience on Mother's Day was an occasion to remember. The Champagne service from Arness was personal and friendly and a perfect complement to the wonderful entrees from Lety. In addition, we sampled and enjoyed all the usual treats from the traditional tea faire, and I especially loved the scones from Leslie. The chocalate covered strawberries were a delectable, mouth-watering conclusion to a perfect meal. I look forward to visiting again in the near future. Congratulations and thanks to all!

My mother and i tried this tea house for the first time and loved it! It was a wonderful experience. We've tried many tea rooms in the Bay Area and this was one of the best. It was charming and traditional. The tea was excellent, there where so many choices. Our waitress explained the type of teas and let us smell some of the teas to help us decide which loose tea we wanted to try. I loved the selection recommended and I bought some to take home! The tea variety was impresive and there was something for almost every everyone. I am a picky tea drinker and thought the teas were great. Great quality. As for the food, it was excellent!

My niece, daughter and I have visited many tea rooms in the USA and in Europe While visiting my niece in California, our experience here was the most enjoyable--offering such unusual ammenities as: warm towels to cleanse our hands for handling finger foods (much appreciated during this flu season), a tea tray highlighting five of their most popular teas, different fresh flowers on each table to coordinate with the place settings, and a picture taken and presented to each of us.
After leaving our tea experience, I felt I wanted to be a tea reviewer for the two tea publications I receive. Two weeks prior, I took tea with a friend in Naples, Florida--NO comparison and twice the cost!!

My fiance Albert and I had tea at the August Tea Room recently and it was sheer deight! What a difference it makes when the owner, in this case Lety, makes a point of meeting and greeting all of her guests! This was my third tea at August Tea Room, but it was Albert's first tea ever! Lety made us feel completely at home and her expert staff helped Albert choose a tea by letting us see and sniff as many of the many fine, loose varieties we wished, until he found one he thought he would enjoy and he did! The food was superb, freshly made and unique - and I might add it has been a different selection of scones, sandwiches and desserts on each occasion I have visited this lovely establishment! This is a true tea salon! The atmosphere is very warm and intimate, thanks to Letty and her exp... (more)ert staff! It feels just like going home to me each time I go back! The walls of the tea room are lined with lovely tea assessories and the parlor near the entry offers fancy hats, incase you've forgotten one! The picture Lety takes of her guests, as a memory of the experience at Autust Tea Room is hanging proudly on my hutch!

Taking tea is my great passion. I've visited tea rooms all over California and in my opinion August Tea Room is one of the best. It's like a step back in time. The tea room is inviting and cozy, decorated with a sense of Victorian charm. The tables are beautifully set with tablecloths, flowers and lovely china. Lety, the owner/hostess, is the friendliest, most gracious person you will ever meet. She comes around to all the tables making sure everything is to your satisfaction, and if it isn't for some reason, she will make it right. She truly wants to make your tea experience a memorable one. The food served at August is absolutely delicious. Leslie, the chef, makes wonderful savories and fantastic desserts. The sandwiches are always fresh and filling. I've been to August Tea Room once before and had a great time. The Owner, Lety, is great. The food was great and the service was excellent the first time. The atmosphere was cozy and cute. I decided that I had such a good time before that I would celebrate my birthday there. I know my group was large, but I couldn't help notice that there was a huge lack of detail. I emailed earlier to let Lety know about some allegies ( fish, nuts and whole eggs) - but there were still tuna and egg sandwiches and nuts in the dessert! Yes, there were other things to eat, but guests should be able to eat what everyone else is eating. Clearly a lack of communication between the owner and chef but it was taken by me as simply neither cared what the customer wanted. I NEVER do that to my customers. When a... (more) customer tells me they have a guest will allergies I always accommidate them. Especially since I was the one allergic to nuts and it was my birthday!!! I couldn't eat one of the sandwhiches and one of the desserts. I was really dissappointed because I love to try everything. I want everyone to be happy and not feel they are being deprived at the table. The chef had no customer service skills whats so ever and because their work area is open to guest. . .she needs to be careful of her tone with employees because you can see and hear all from the guests perspective. Then there was the issue of not being explained the reservation policy. Yes, I RSVP for 15 people. . .but not once did Lety or her staff ask me during thier 3 confirmations if there were going to be any children ( which there were 4) as their price would be different - they don't eat as much. So they charged me adult prices for the children solely because I reserved for 15 people. I am in the food service business myself and am a Chef. . .so maybe my expectations are higher. I suggest Lety and her staff read Charlie Trotter's Lessons in Service. I was going to be a loyal customer. . .but that has all changed now. I usually go to SF for Tea and was excited that there was something in the Valley that can take care of my craving with out the drive. . .but I guess not.

While on vacation and visiting with my Sister, she suggested we go for
tea at her favorite place, August Tea Room. Being a coffee drinker, I was a bit hesitant but thought it might be fun. And it was! The tea room was very charming as was the owner Lety, she made me feel welcome and very much at ease.
Our lunch was fabulous. Lety took the time to explain each course as
presented. Presented, I might add in royal fashion, on a lovely three tiered tray.
Everything was fresh, flavorful and abundant. I enjoyed trying the many different offerings. Including drinking tea.
Chef Leslie stopped to chat and shared some of her inspirations for
her wonderful deserts.
After sipping the last of our tea, we dressed up in funny hats and had our pictures taken. It was a great ... (more)afternoon spent with my sister, in a wonderful place.
In the course of our conversations, Lety learned we were driving to Tahoe the next day for the weekend.
As we said our goodbys, Lety handed
us our pictures, and to my surprise,
a box of cookies for our trip! Now that's something...I enjoyed the tea room very much and meeting such
genuine people. Thank you.

A very good friend took me to the August tearoom in December as a Christmas gift. Knowing how much I love tea(s), she thought this was the perfect gift…and it was! I’ve “taken tea” at many different places, near and far, fancy and not. I loved our 2+ hour tea time. The décor of Lety’s tearoom is cozy and welcoming. Her staff is knowledgeable on the teas that they are serving and made some excellent recommendations. The chef also came out to greet us. I found the lemon curd, and clotted cream to be some of the best I’ve had, and the Scones served that day were remarkable. Just the way I like them, not overly dry and not overly spongey. The array of sandwiches and savories was wonderfully presented on adorable tiered bone china plates. It was a very relaxing day! We never felt rushed ... (more)or pressured to leave and the tearoom was packed! I’ve since returned with other friends, who have also found it to be very enjoyable. So enjoyable, that I want to do my own tea party, based on the experience I had at August. The complimentary group photo was also a nice touch, and we invited Lety to join us in the picture. For all those insulting comments from past patrons out there…it really isn’t necessary is it? How rude to review an establishment for anything other than their food or their service! I highly recommend August Tearoom, Lety and her staff! Cheers!

What a wonderful tea experience! I have been to many tea rooms as well as have tea time in my home with themes, etc.... This tea room is 'tea'lightful and was a wonderful experience with my dear friend. The service by Leslie was excellent and we enjoyed chosing from 9 teas that were shared at the table... The hour glass timer brought with our tea made it fun to see that our tea was brewed perfectly! My only suggestion would be to have a cozy on our teapots to keep the tea hot. The tea goodies presentation was beautiful
and everything was fresh, delicious and abundant. We were not rushed and were warmly welcomed by Lety! She made certain that we were having a wonderful experience. Levy took our picture and presented it to both us before we left! The generousity and attention to d... (more)etail made this an even more special experience and memory for us. Another sucessful tea event at August Tea. There were four of us and the service was very good. The scones were better than last time, with the server bringing them 'hot from the oven.' I only wish the tables for four were a little more spacious. All the lovely accoutrements does make it a bit crowded. I did note the devonshire cream this time was more along the lines of a creme fraiche, a much lighter and fluffier consistency than was preferred from devon cream. It was a nice addition that complementary pictures were taken this time by our server. This was a nice touch. Thank you.

The August Tea Room is located inside a Livermore shop. Lety and her staff attempt to provide a lovely tea experience, and take the time to bring a tray of tea leaves to the table to allow customers an opportunity to view and smell them. Unfortunately, the food and overall service were average. One major complaint I have is with the clotted cream. The texture was runny and it tasted very similar to Cool Whip.

On January 9, 2008, a group of tea affectionados and myself came from the Big Valley to the August Tea Room and were so delighted we did!
From the moment we entered the tea room, we felt transported into a more elegant, quieter time! The gracious hostess and owner Lety showed us into the sitting room area that offerd fancy hats for those who might have forgotten theirs!
Once seated, we were given an extensive menu with nearly 100 choices of fine whole leaf teas from which to choose! The cover tells the story of Lety's love for tea and her desire to have a wonderful tea room!
We were given warmed towelettes to cleanse our hands and then given a tray of the week's sample teas to see and sniff! We were also offered to see and sniff any other tea from the menu, before... (more) we settled on our individual selections! While we waited for our tea to brew, we were given homemade cookies to nibble!
There were several types of tea services offered in the menu and the one we chose started with delicious warm homemade savories, followed by handmade individual tea sandwiches (each with its own delicate flavor) and two types homemade scones and shortbread! Devonshire creme, lemon curd and jam were also provided. Lastly, the desserts were homemade and sumptuous!
The icing on this delightful experience were Lety and her friendly and knowledgeable staff! They even took our picture and gave it to us to remember our lovely experience! They obviously love their work and it shows in every loving detail they so graciously offer!

The shop was lovely, Victorian style with many delightful things to view & buy.
At tea we were greeted warmly by the owner, Lety and the menu was explained in detail, along with an abundance of questions answered for all of us.
We were brought a sample tray of different teas to view & smell while the server explained about each of the different teas. The teas (each of us choose a different tea) arrived quickly, they were hot and replenished when required. We were also offe... (more)red a wonderful dessert tea which we all enjoyed.
Again, the food presentation, flavor and desserts were scrumptious and plentiful! The cook Leslie, personally explained each sandwich, savory & dessert to us. We each left with a take away box of delicious goodies!
I had a wonderful tea experience at August tea room, relaxing and enjoying good friends and good food and a wonderful ambiance. I look forward to visiting again soon.
Thank you,

What a wonderful experience I had at August Tea Room. A dear friend introduced me to Lety what a gracious host she makes everyone feel as though they are family. The presentation of scones and sandwhiches is simply elegant and most delicious to say the least. The overall atmosphere is casual and inviting (you could bring your husband or boyfriend without them feeling out of place). I look forward to my next visit.. Buon Appetite..Daniela

I had the opportunity to take my wife to tea at the August Tea Room on the day after Christmas. She really loves tea and this was an extended Christmas present. She has visited many of the tea rooms throughout northern and southern California, but this is her favorite. Based on the selection of teas, friendly service, and wonderful food, I can understand why.
Kate, our server, provided us a selection of 5 loose teas, all very different and quite interesting. I selected the spicy vanilla Chai tea and really enjoyed it. My wife selected the Monk's blend, her favorite. I also perused the menu and looked at all the other many loose teas to choose from for my next visit.
When the food came, it was nicely presented with each scone, savory, sandwich, and dessert described ... (more)in detail by Kate. We tried everything, but couldn't eat it all, even though it was scrumptious. The scones were great, especially with the lemon curd.
Of special note, we had the time to speak with Kate and learn that she had recently completed her Arhcaeology degree from a college in Ohio, our home state. It was interesting to learn a little bit about her exploits and lessons in this unusual field. I believe this added to our fun experience and genuine good service.
I might add that when we were at a point when we could use additional hot water, Leslie, the chef, walked by and was asking how everything was and we requested some hot water, which she immediately brought over to us.
All in all, it was a very nice experience. I'm glad my wife invited me!

My manager treated us to Tea at the August Tearoom. We had a fabulous time, very relaxing and comforting atmosphere. The tea was nice, hot, and tasty. The sandwiches were great and very filling, although I personally didn't care much for olive one, all the others were quite satisfying. The cookies and desserts were lovely and delicious.
The service was excellent, we got to play some tea cards that my manager brought, and browsed around the cute tearoom at all the neat tea stuff.
Thank you for the pleasant experience.

I am sorry, but my mom and I were not impressed. Although the shop is cute, the tea experience was lacking. Nice selection of tea's but we were only able to select 1 flavor and had to ask for more hot water. We were never offered a refresh of the tea so by the third cup, the flavor of the tea was gone and we were left with just the hot water. Food was lacking as well. Soup was very bland. Sandwiches were not fresh and other items were very skimpy and ordinary. The menu said we would have scones but we never saw any. Dessert was too little too late...
Sorry Ladies, this could be a charm with the right chef or management.

Dear Alice,
As owner of August Tea room I was surprised that your experience at our
tea room was lacking and disappointing.
Our policy that all our customer can
select there own tea, if you and your
mom have decided to share and wanted to
try a different tea we would have change
it for you. Even with large events, we offered at least 3 to 4 selection of teas and at any time can add more if requested. All our tea service with the
exception of the luncheon does not include scone or dessert. Luncheon includes only soup, salad and tea sandwiches. All tea services such as the
Royal & Queen tea are serve on 3 tier serving the dessert, scones, cookies and
sandwiches are serve all at together. I
am a lost of your comments 'desert was too little too late.
We try to be gracious in the face of constructive criticism. After all we learned from our customers in the past.
However, we continue to strive better
and if you decided to give us another
chance please let us complement you and
your mom with our scones and dessert.

I have been to the 'other' tea rooms in the area. August Tea Room does not even compare to these two others. Lety does a superb job of making your visit special. Friendly, comfortable, and always ready to please. A great place to relax and enjoy your time there. I definitely be back and will be telling my friends about The August Tea Room.

Lety is the most gracious hostess! I just gave a baby shower at August Tea Room, and it couldn't have been better! In the elegant yet comfortable atmosphere, Lety and her staff treated us like royalty, serving 3 wonderful teas, homemade cookies, then Asparagus Soup, followed by tiered plates of delicious treats including a good variety of the freshest sandwiches, scones, shortbread, macaroons, truffles and beautiful fresh cherries. Every guest commented on how this was absolutely the BEST Tea Room experience they had ever had. I couldn't agree more! All the 'extras' provided by Lety: gorgeous favors, exquisite custom cake, balloon bouquets, boa and hat....it was simply a wonderful event. THANK YOU to Lety and Kate!

Everyone in our group of six ladies

Towels at the end of service would be a nice addition too. I had so much fun, I am setting up another group for January.

August Tearoom is wonderful. I have visited many tearooms world wide and Lety and her staff are the best. I try to visit a least once a week for an enjoyable tea experience. The shop is tastfully decorated with many charming tea items. The tea selection is quite extensive and different. Lety's staff is very attentive and pleasant. The food is served on a three tiered tray,a beautiful presentation. Sandwiches are fresh and delicious, scones always warm, and desserts are yummy! You can not ask for a better place to have tea. I have been there with my husband, parents and friends.Whenever I am talking to a tea lover I am sure to mention August Tearoom!

Recently I took my best friend to August Tea Room. Neither of us had been there before. Although we were running about 15 minutes late, the staff were very kind and held our table. We had a lovely tea table and most comfortable chairs. The room was well decorted with flowers and lovely items, some of which we were happy to note, available for purchase. We ordered Lady Letty's Tea and enjoyed a most unusual salad of lettuce, strawberries, olives and feta cheese which was fresh and cold. The soup was tasty, cheddar asparagus. The sandwiches were served in an attractive manner and all were fresh and with enough variety to make it fun. The scone course was served with blueberry and cinnamon scones offered. When Letty brought the scones and overhead us discussing pumpkin scones, she offe... (more)red to bring some of those as well. Very kind of her. The desserts were plentiful, with the majority made on the premises, which is always preferable. We were informed they would bring fresh hot water to add to our pots of tea leaves which could be infused more than once and would willingly change the leaves if we asked. As it turned out, I did order a jasmine Earl Grey which was served in a good sized pot. After the first pot was nearly gone, I did begin to note the tea was going bitter so requested fresh leaves. This was done promptly and without any extra charge. We lingered without feeling rushed and the staff continued to make sure we were happy and comfortable. It was such a lovely experience I reserved another date for 6 more of us to go before Thanksgiving. Thank you Letty and Brittany. It was a lovely time.

I selected the Queen's Tea for Kirsten's baby shower in October - it was fabulous! Letty had the tables all decorated in blue, there were lovely flowers, she had an area for the baby shower gifts, and we all wore hats (some from the 'stash' at the entrance to the tea room). The food was incredible, there was a lovely cake and the warm scones - wow! It was the first 'tea' many of the 20 guests had ever attended, and nobody was intimidated - Letty's staff provided wonderful, friendly instructions...even 'grandma' had a great time. Letty - thank you so much! And little 'Robby' is now with us in real life!
