Overview
The British Pantry opened its doors in November 1994 and is owned by a Brit from Watford who longed for salad cream! It started in the reception area of her husband's British car business selling just a few bars of chocolate, bacon and sausages, and of course salad cream!
The British Pantry opened its doors in November 1994 and is owned by a Brit from Watford who longed for salad cream! It started in the reception area of her husband's British car business selling just a few bars of chocolate, bacon and sausages, and of course salad cream!
Very soon, a large population of Brits in the area found us and requests for more and more British food items meant that the reception area quickly outgrew itself. With this in mind, we expanded into the adjacent building and now carry many hundreds of items and soon after, Blighty's café, our English tearoom began.

Variety: British Pantry is the single best purveyor of British foods in the DC area, and there is no place better for a warm cup on a winter day to warm you up. This is my 'fall back tea' – the dining area is small so it can be VERY hard to get a spot no matter what time or day, but it is definitely worth a trip. I don't think there is anything about the tea that I would say is spectacular except for the “British Savory Tea” (as opposed to their “Sweets Tea”), which includes small meat tarts and other foods. When we go, we call it the Man’s Tea and order it for the boys, and the girls’ get the Sweet Tea and we all split. It’s the best way to order. If anything else, go to stock up on your British food, and talk to the expats working behind the register. :) |

Variety: I've been to the British Pantry a number of times and love it there. The staff is very friendly, the meals and high tea arrangement is always delicious. The front room is full of quaint things to browse and a plethera of British goods as well. It's my hideaway when I want to spend time on myself and my day out when I want to bring friends and family! |

Variety: Had my second visit here accompanied by my mom and sister. We again ordered the savory afternoon tea and the afternoon tea. All the tea treats, scones and sweets were delicious. We had our British PG Tips tea bagged since last time we tried loose leaf. Service was great. I bought some Lifeboat tea from Kenya in the tearoom shop to enjoy on my own. |

Variety: Great little tea-room. Whole experience very enjoyable. I was surprised at the negative comments below. We found everyone very friendly. The staff answered all our questions with great patience, and the food was excellent also, with good portions. |

Variety: Many thanks to all the staff at the British Pantry for their kind and pleasant way they treat my family and I when we visit. The quality of the food is first class and a pot of P.G. Tips goes down well on our way home from a day in D.C. A grateful customer. |

Variety: I have visited this tea room on 2 or 3 occasions. The food is very good but the prices outrageous. I feel the management could warm up a bit and not act like they're doing me a favor for letting me shop or eat there. |

Variety: Nice selection of British goods for sale & afternoon tea was adequate, however, shop staff unfriendly and management unaccomodating. Tea room staff pleasant. |

Variety: My husband and I recently took a 'road trip' to that area of the state, and by chance happened upon the British Pantry. High tea was a regular event during growing up for me, so at 4:30 when we stopped for tea, I was NOT disappointed. It was wonderful. Hot pots of tea, lovely biscuits, cozy atmosphere, and lots of lace. Perfect. |

Variety: I recently took my mother in law and 3 young daughters here for afternoon tea and it was delightful! The tea is delicious, the scones scrumptious and the tea sandwiches so very good! Everything was excellent including the service. The nice lady who waited on us was friendly and attentive. I truly loved this place as did my daughters and mother in law. We'll certainly be back again. Thanks for a wonderful experience. |

Variety: I absolutely love this place! They don't have a wide selection of teas to choose from (only about 5, whole leaf to my knowledge -- only one is decaf and that's what I drink -- but they have their own special blend), but it's worth the trip to Aldie, VA. The atmosphere is quaint, the tea service is absolutely charming. Definitely make reservations before heading out there though. The place is small and intimate, so make sure you have a table. |

Variety: Took my mom and sister here over the Columbus Day holiday weekend. Loved it! We tried both the afternoon tea service and the savory afternoon tea service. We also had the soups of the day, tomato and lentil. Both were excellent. We decided to have our PGTips tea served loose leaf in a teapot. Drank 3 pots of tea. They keep the tea leaves in the bottom of the pot and give you a strainer to pour it through into the cup. All the tea treats were delicious and there is a gift shop stocked with many of the sweet tea treats they serve. I'll be going back again! |
