Go to this very delightful tearoom! The decor is wonderful, the staff is friendly and the food is outstanding. Have the chicken salad or the egg salad, both do not disappoint. I had the Paris tea and all I can say is, 'YUM'. I came in hungry and left very satisfied. Thank you Butterfly Garden of a wonderful experience. I and my friend will be back.

A very old friend and I had lunch today and it was simply wonderful. I have to note that the the chicken & rice soup was delicious.

We have booked an actual tea and I cannot wait. My red hat friends said they had a fanastic tea the last time they visited and that is how I found this quaint, delightful place.

My friend & I visited this tearoom & were very pleased with the atmosphere & service. The only issue we had was the amount of food for the price. All our sandwiches & savories were put on 2 salad plates, and our 2 scones were on another plate. I am more than willing to pay a good price for what I am getting but, felt this was not what I expected. Unfortunately this has made my decision not to return.

The Best! We recently discovered this charming little tearoom and were thrilled with everything. The decor is charming and the attention to detail was really noticeable. The tea menu is extensive and there were some really interesting choices. The food was sooo yummy and contrary to what people have said there was plenty. I had the tomato bisque, half BLT and peanut butter pie. I was stuffed when I left. I plan on returning soon to try more of the the items on the menu, especially the desserts! Also, my girlfriends and I are in our twenties and we were treated wonderfully by the staff. I suggest everyone try this place, you'll love it!

I have had the tea's here several times now and I love the fact that it varies each time and they do not always the same on the tea trays. I look forward to each time we go back because I know I will try something new. The service is excellant, the place is charming and the food is incredible. The owner Kim is a delight and has always made our visit a great one.

My daughter and I tried this tea room after reading the reviews on this site. I must say, it was even better than the people wrote about the place and the food was delectable. We travel around visiting tea rooms about once a month and this trip to the Butterfly Garden made my top #5 list of favorite tea rooms. When we come back this way, I/we will visit again.

My girlfriend and I have made Afternoon Tea at the Butterfly Garden a monthly event...The food is delicious and sweetly presented! The service has been consistent - good without being intrusive. The atmosphere is conducive to hours of 'girltalk' and no one rushes you out the door...to the contrary - you are encouraged to linger with yet another pot of tea! Is there anything better than a good friend, a good meal and a good pot of tea?

I visted yesterday for the after noon tea, but have also visited over 10 times for lunch. Can I tell you that the afternoon tea was fantastic and the best presentation I have seen to date at any tea room. The food was wonderful and I would highly recomend you trying the afternoon tea. You are first served with a pot of tea, then a delicious soup, followed by the best tasting scones and finally the savories and sweats. Outstanding is what comes to mind. Lunch there is also wonderful, but the afternoon tea was quite a nice treat for me. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. The staff is very friendly and the owner is as nice as can be.

Great job ladies....

My daughter, granddaughter, and I had the pleasure of afternoon tea on Friday the 28th. What a charming tea room! The moment we entered the cozy room, it said, 'Welcome, relax, stay awhile.' The service was excellent, and the owner and staff was warm and friendly. Classical music played softly in the background as we enjoyed our tea and conversation. As for the food, the soup and scone was delicious, as was the sweets and savories. The presentation was lovely. What can i say, it was 'tealicious!' I will be returning often.

Hi I am 9 years old and I have had a wonderful experience at The Butterfly Garden. This place was beautifully decorated and the servers are more then nice. It has excellent service. The food that I normally get is very good and they have a wide selection of teas that everyone can enjoy. The tables are nicely decorated with flowers as the centerpiece. I do not understand why they got some bad reviews. Their teas taste wonderful (I can tell you that because I have tried a lot of them.) and I would reccomend you try Earl Grey tea if you have not tried it already. If you like a nice place to go, not too big or small, then the Butterfly Garden is the place for you. Try it today!

I attended a bridal shower at Butterfly Garden and was delighted by the atmosphere, as well as the teas and treats. As a newcomer to tea the staff gladly provided guidance and elevated my experience. A wide variety of teas were available alongside delicious and beautifully prepared scones, cookies, and tarts. I felt as if I had entered an intimate garden and experienced solace amidst the bustle outside. I will surely return in the future.

I surprised my wife with a visit to The Butterfly Garden approx. two weeks ago, and the two of us had the most wonderful tea experience. We arrived late in the afternoon, without a reservation, and the hostess cheerfully greeted us and escorted us to 'the best seat in the house'. We asked to unwind a bit, prior to ordering our food, and that was fine with our server. We each selected a different type of tea from the large variety available, and we enjoyed sipping our tea & catching up with one another with subtle, relaxing music playing in the background. It was the perfect ambiance to have tea. The decor is what many would call shabby chic or soothingly eclectic. We eventually ordered our food, which turned out to be visually pleasing, as well as delicious to our tastebuds. All-in-all, we had a very pleasing, unrushed afternoon and we will definitely be back to The Butterfly Garden soon!!

DONT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It wasnt enough food. Not to mention the poor service and rude server. I have never been served so little food at a tea room before. GO TO TASTE IN WILLIAMSBURG OR CUPPA TEA IN RICHMOND. It is worth the drive. For the same price they serve you literally four times as much food. At Cuppa tea they let you pick two teas. Four times the food and THE SAME PRICE. THIS PLACE IS ROBBING PEOPLE1

I don't know where to start. The good or the bad. Let's start with the bad. Very ,very bad. I called to get a reservation for myself, grandmother (90)and daughter( who's 3). She is very well behaved and has atteneded many tea rooms. I was told that the tea was really for children 12 and older becasue of the 'fine china'. Again, my daughter is extremly well behaved and loves going to tea. Well, I was put on hold and then told if I wanted to book I needed to hold my reservation with a credit card. I have never been asked to do that in any tea room! Not even the Ritz- Carlton! ANyway- the day comes for the tea- we arrive and find they dont have room for us unless we prefer to sit upstairs. I have my 90 year old grandmother with me who cannot climb stairs. We were never told this before we cam... (more)

Over the last year or so, I began visiting different tearooms with my mother which is now our special thing to do together. This was my first time at the Butterfly Garden and because my mother lives in Maryland, I decided to try it with a friend. We are both 25 years old and received excellent service (contrary to a few reviews I've read saying the younger crowd is not given good service). Not only was our waitress excellent, another waitress stopped by to check on us and we talked for awhile. There were a variety of teas to choose from and the food was excellent. It was the perfect place to be on a cold winter day and I look forward to bringing my mother the next time she visits.

We went to this “locals” tea room and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of teas and treats. While the servers are nice, we were able to carry-on a leisurely conversation without being interrupted every few minutes by them. The portions were the perfect size for a light lunch, or an afternoon treat. And, don’t miss the gift shop’s tea treasures. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. We’ll go back again and again.

Recently, I visited the Butterfly Garden Tea Room with several friends and was very pleasantly surprised. Having read a recent food review, my friends and I decided we had to check it out. We were very happy we had made reservations, as the tearoom fills up quickly. Upon arriving, the hostess was very friendly, and took us right away to our table. Without hesitation, she explained the tea menu and lunch menu. For those of us, who know little about tea, she made recommendations according to our taste, and we were very all delighted with her suggestions. Our lunch was served in a timely manner, and was fresh and delicious. Next we decided to explore the dsserts. They were wonderful, the white chocolate, raspberry bread pudding, is to die for!! If you are looking for an afternoon treat, this is the place to go.

If you’re in the Virginia Beach area, and you’re looking for a tea room that has about the best tea and treats out there, I enthusiastically recommend the Butterfly Garden Tea Room and Itty Bitty Bakery.

The tea you want to try is “Paris” – not that the white teas and flavored teas aren’t fantastic as well, but the Paris blend is stunning. They also have a variety of leaf and bag type teas you can get to try at home.

The treats are all good, but an absolute favorite for lunch is the quiche. Pick any of variety, as they’re all great. We were their first customer and continue to come back again and again.

The updated Victorian décor compliments the tea experience nicely. And if you have a few minutes to spare, they have a gift area filled with tea “necessities”. ... (more)

A friend of mine and I have been traveling around the Virginia area having an intrest in tea houses. We have visited several in the hampton roads/williamsburg/richmond area, and I have never been so dissapointed in service and lack of fun tea treats. The service was terrible and I would have to say it was pure ageism. Being that we were a quite a bit younger then other guests enjoying tea, we were treated terribly. Also we had at least a 40 minute wait between our courses. We are well aware of the slowness in having tea but this was the slowest. After the long wait~ the amount of tasty treats that finally arrived on our server was at least a quarter of what we normally would recieve. It was alomost as though they thought they could pull the wool over our eyes because we were young. We were checking out the tea room for a rather large bridal shower and now it is out of the question. I will never return.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK! I went to the Butterfly Tea room for lunch and then again recently for afternoon tea with a friend. The first time I went I was with my mother and recieved very good service. The last time I went the service was very poor. Our hostess and server were rude. We waited 45min between our soup and the rest of our meal. We had to wait for an extended amount of time and then ended up having to asking for a refill of our tea The food was every good however the serving sizes were small. I was served half of what I have been served at other tea roooms. If not less. I have been to several tearooms in the Richmond/Williamsburg/Norfolk/VA Beach area and have always left feeling full and satisfied. My friend and I who are both in our mid-20s both noticed how the older guests recieved better service and were treated much nicer. I wanted to try a new tearoom and ended up wishing that I had just stuck with one I already love.

The Butterfly Garden Tea Room is a wonderful place to sit back, relax and enjoy good food and tea with your friends. The atmosphere is serene and very inviting and helps you forget your cares for a few hours. The food is outstanding - fresh, innovative and delicious. I especially enjoy the different soups and scones served. And if you want to take home some scones or other sweet treats the Itty Bitty Bakery offers a nice variety. The Tea Room recently had an Autumn Twilight Tea as a special event which was delightful. They offered all the flavors of the season. My favorites were the Cranberry Autumn Tea, pumpkin cheesecake and the spiced plum pork loin with dijon horseradish.
