What a fabulous find!!! I took my 2 good friends for a relaxing afternoon at the Calabash Garden Tea Room. What a wonderful delight! Everything was perfect especially Anna and Trish. Where was Kathy?? If you want the absolute perfect tea room experience, this is the place to go!!! Thanks ladies for the day...

My friend and I had the 'Ultimate Tea' at Calabash Garden Tea Room today. We both felt this was the best 'tea' we had ever had. We have had tea all over the world. The food was superb in both quality, taste and presentation. The staff was extremely personable. We will return at every opportunity. Special note: A wonderful place to introduce your daughters/granddaughters to the world of tea.

I was visiting my cousin who lives in the area and was thoroughly delighted. So far, it is the best tea house I have ever frequented and this includes others located in historic places such as Ellicott City and Annapolis, MD as well as London. The food ws at a much higher level than I had come to expect in a tea house. Well worth a stop.

I live in the Sunset Beach area and frequent the Calabash Garden Tea Room whenever I want to treat myself and a friend. The food is absolutely incredible as are the teas and service. The owners pay attention to details that make the difference between just a nice experience and a truly memorable one. I'd recommend this quaint tea room to anyone looking for a unique, tranquil and exquisitely delicious experience.

Calabash Garden Tea Room will suit you to a 'Tea'! It is my favorite place to go. I can't tell you how delicious the food is and the ambiance is second to none. I love this tea room and always take all my visiting friends there. All of you know how many friends visit you when you live near the Beach! The owners are talented and delightful. I would highly recommend this tea room to anyone looking for a special treat!

The few negative reviews on this site completely vanish when you visit the Calabash Tea Room.I have been there a few times and intend to revisit whenever possible. My friends and I travel about an hour to experience this quaint, victorian tearoom, with all of its charm. It is obvious that Kathy, Anna and their staff place much emphasis on detail. The food is outstanding, with new, creative and scrumptious recipes appearing regularly. I can't say enough about this place and about the owners who make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive.

Kudos for being #1!

This was my first tea and what a wonderful experience it was. Of course I had to find the right hat and boa to start things off. I had the peach soup which was delicious. All of the food was very good but I especially enjoyed the apple walnut salad and the chocolate covered strawberries. Kathy and Anna were great hostesses and the entire afternoon was a most enjoyable and memorable one. I hope I have the opportunity to visit again some day.

I had the pleasure of visiting this tea room during my travels this summer and in my opinion this is one of the finest tea rooms in the county and I have been to many! I had their full 'Ultimate Tea' starting with a delicious salad, then the chilled peach soup. Their beautifully presented came to our table with unique tea sandwiches, Kathy's dark chocolate apricot scones and the most delicious HOME MADE desserts. The miniature strawberry shortcake was just beyond words. I had the Crime of Passion tea and had just had to buy some from the gift shop to take home.
I can't wait until next summer when I get back to the area to visit again.

I brought my granddaughter in the other afternoon for her first 'tea party,' and we had a ball! Her children's plate was beautiful and she enjoyed every bite. I was thrilled with the variety of the tea sandwiches that I received, including cranberry apple waldorf salad and cucumber dill. The sandwiches were all so delicious, it is impossible to choose a favorite! My granddaughter and I had so much fun dressing up in their ladies room - she told me later that this is her new favorite place!

This was an experience that my niece and her bridesmaids will not soon forget. On the day of the wedding to be held at Ocean Isle beach, my mother and I hosted a brunch for the bridal party. All of our 'young ladies' participated in the dressing up of hats and boas to enjoy a little 'make believe' before the big event. All in attendance shared and enjoyed the vast flavors of teas offered and we were hard pressed to pick just one favorite. The presentation of the food was not only attractive but every bit as good as it looked if not better.

Oh my goodness...it doesn't get any better than the Calabash Garden Tea Room! I went with 2 of my friends today and can not say enough about how excellent the tea was (both iced and hot) and how delicious the food was -- YUM!! Kathy's presentation of the food is impeccable and her attention to detail is quite impressive (with both food and atmosphere). The cute little gray kitty-cat on the front porch greeted us and our overall positive experience took off from there! Will definitely be back with more friends and family! THANK YOU!!

Unique is not the word! I visited the Calabash Garden Tea Room today with a friend and I was more than impressed. From the moment we walked in you felt at home and the staff could not do enough for you. Anna and Kathy came by and chatted and made me feel special to be there. The presentation and explanation of the tea tray was perfect. The lemon curd, sandwiches, the airy scones, and yummy goodies were terrific. The peach soup was light and refreshing as was the raspberry lemon iced tea. I plan on returning in a few weeks to share this experience with others.

The 'Tea Room' experience was something fun and different for me. I very much enjoyed dressing up with a fancy hat and I think this was the highlight of the afternoon. The food was excellent, and as a person who generally does not drink tea, very much enjoyed the Queen Catherine' variety. I also had the pleasure of trying the Tomato Bisque soup and it was the best I've ever had! The portions are not very large, but appropriate and artfully prepared.

I would definitely return for a visit. My only complaint was that while the staff was very sweet and friendly, they did not dress the part. I would have liked to see them in Sunday's finest with a hat to match to complete the ambiance.

I had such a wonderful experience here... I called Kathy ahead of time to arrange a vegan menu for me and she was absolutely accommodating to all my needs. The selection of the tea sandwiches was diverse, and all of them unique and tasty in their own way. I had their Raspberry Lemon Herbal iced tea which was so refreshing and brewed to perfection. I must also note that the service was exceptional. Trish and Anna went above and beyond to satisfy and anticipate all of our needs. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area!

From the beautiful, dainty presentation to the sweet hospitality of its owner, Kathy, and her terrific staff, the Calabash Garden Tea Room is a very special place. Food is consistently fresh, & tasty. Everyone who works here is friendly & accommodating. All the Victorian touches are absolutely charming. I come frequently and even took my 3 1/2yr. old granddaughter here with my stepdaughter and daughter for a memorable time. Kathy and her staff pay extra attention to all details, and each time I go I am pleasantly surprised by a delicious new variety of her tender scones! I've beento teas at the Ritz in many cities as well as the Palace in NYC - and the quality of the food and the attention to detail (such as beautiful roses adorning the 3 tier tray) far exceeded those experiences. I must say I had to laugh when I read the three poor reviews that are written below about The Calabash Tea Room. Those reviews are about the farthest thing from the truth about The Calabash Tea Room! I even begin to wonder if these ladies were even at this tea room! This place is EXCELLENT and deserves to ranked number one in NC and I would even rank it number one out of all the tea rooms I've visited across the country. I can't even imagine someone saying they left this tea room hungry!!! So hungry that you needed a snack, wow you must be a BIG eater. I consider myself to have quite a large appetite and I have never left hungry from this tea room. If anything, you may need things wrapped to take home!! The teas are wonderful, the food is out of this world!!! The owner does an outstanding job of making some of the most delicious things I've ever tasted! You must visit this tea room if you are in the area, you will not be disappointed.

As the owner of the Wilmington Tea Room, I can honestly say that this place is a tough act to follow! It has been awhile since I had the opportunity to visit, but I would certainly recommend the Calabash Garden Tea Room to any and all of my customers. I was there with friends and family (including my then 18 month-old daughter) on a Saturday afternoon. Even the husbands enjoyed the event. :) I don't really keep up with this site as often as I probably should, but in light of a few recent reviews, I just wanted to add my 'two cents.'

Tearoom Response
Lisa Anne ,
First I would like to say that this is the first review that I have responded to. I thank you and all the others that have had such wonderful things to say and for all your kind words and compliments. We all work very had to keep our customers satisfied and wanting to come back to experience new teas and tea sandwiches, scones and desserts.I have visited the Wilmington Tea Room on many occasions and have also visited Charletson Place as well and I have enjoyed them both very much. Every Tea Room has it's own style and personality with menu selections that change from time to time. I would hope those of you who enjoy visiting tea rooms would appreciate each tea room for it's own style and flair and recognize how hard we all work , as tea room owners, to make your tea experience special. I hope that I speak on behalf of all tea room owners when I say that 'What we do is truly a labor of love'.
Thank you and I hope that you visit again soon. Kathy

On our way from Maryland to Florida, my sister, daughter in law and I had the pleasure of stopping off at a few tea rooms we found on this site. We were very excited to see that this was ranked #1. Although some of the previous reviews were not outstanding, the reputation of this tea room is obviously great. Our review is that the ranking of #1 is probably not deserved. While the food was tasty, there was not much variety and as a previous reviewer noted a lot of flavored cream cheese. Also, we are not impressed with the use of sprinkles (jimmies) as means to 'liven up' the desserts on a tea service.
However, a one star review is also not deserved. We found the staff to be very friendly and the restaurant itself was charming. We had a pleasant time, over all.

The atmosphere whimsical and spotlessly clean. For the price of a High Tea I would have liked to have more variety in the sandwich's and larger portions. It was just a bite, and mostly with flavored cream cheese.I would have liked to see a variety of sandwich's. Ham, chicken, egg salad, etc. with a special touch and would have been a more satisfying menu. The scones were delicious as was the fruit and the tea. There is a wonderful tea menu offered.

I ordered the chocolate hazelnut tea which one of the servers recommended - it didn't even need sugar or milk. I must comment on several of the previous reviews that state the food or service is not up to par. I have been to tea rooms all over the world and both the food and service were outstanding. The servers took their time getting to know myself and my company, teaching us about tea and the differences among all the varieties. The server brought the tea to the table after 5 minutes of brewing time, poured the tea for each of us, commenting on color and smell and then delicately placed the teapots on the warmers. Had to make several attempts to get a reservation. We should not have bothered. I am disappointed, after reading all the wonderful comments about this tea room. A previous diner made reference to the small portions and poor quality of the food, and I have to agree. Certainly 'tea sandwiches' aren't Big Macs, but come on. And the ingredients just did not taste fresh. I have no complaint about the tea service..our server was knowledgeable and friendly, helping us select a tea to 'complement' our meal. But it is not enough to save my opinion of this tea room. You have a wonderful location, a charming look. But your food is just not up to par.

I have agree with my friend, who treated me to lunch at the tea room for my birthday. The food is not bad, but it's not good either. And its skimpy, left us feeling like we needed to get a snack after leaving. The interior photo shows the table where we were seated - four of us crammed in the corner with six more people in a little 'nook.' Not for you if you are claustraphobic or if you like to eat lunch once rather than twice. I would not go again and I will not recommend - sorry. :(

While there is a variety of teas available, there is no artistry to the service. More like drop it at your table and do it yourself. The service is not what one could call overly-friendly. The location and interior are cute, but not really all that impressive - outdoor furniture dargged inside and topped with glass. Also, they seem to be crowding too many people in too little space. My biggest complaint is the food! For the prices charged by this tea room, I expect MORE - more food and BETTER quality. I am sorry, but most of what they serve tasted like thawed bulk-store fare. Serve that if you must, but consider lowering your prices.
If this place is number one, I can't imagine how bad numbers 2-10 must be!

While visiting Calabash my husband and I enjoyed an afternoon tea at this darling tea room. I was amazed at the ambiance.Very colorful and girly. We ordered the cream tea. The savories and sweets were outstanding. The tea was just the right temperature. The table setting was darling with handkerchief napkins tucked in the cup handles.I invited a new friend I made while on vacation in North Carolina to join me the next week. We had the full tea. We both were very impressed. Presented so beautifully and delicious. I chose a darling hat from the dress up room to wear. It was fun. I and my daughter started an authentic English tea club years ago which is still going today. This would be a deffinate vist for us if we didn't live so far away (Wisconsin). I stopped by this tea room during an afternoon out shopping and was absolutely delighted with my experience. As a soon to be bride, I am planning on having my bridal shower here...the owners are so personable, their attention to detail is exquisite and the food is by far the best on the beach. From fruity refreshing iced tea to handcrafted bite-sized tea sandwiches and gourmet petite desserts, I was astounded by the quality and unique characteristics of each flavor that I was presented with. I can't wait to come back for my shower (if I can stay away that long). I am so excited to share this discovery with my girlfriends and family. We will definitely take full advantage of the dress up room, donning hats and boas for the perfect photo opportunity. Thank you Kathy and Anna for bring some much needed class to Calabash!

The ambience of the Calabash Garden Tea Room is from my grandmother's era, but the exceptional soup, fancy tea sandwiches, 'melt in your mouth' scones and delectable dessert choices are timeless. This was my first visit, but I am already planning to return with friends and family. I loved trying the various exotic teas; the individual floral teapots complimented the Victorian decor. The enthusiam of the proprietors, Kathy and Anna,is contagious and the service impeccable. I don't have a granddaughter to share lunch with, but after today I am defintely thinking of adopting.

I had the best experience in this tea room. The china, quality of food and ambiance was outstanding. The tomato soup and turkey and brie sandwich was delicious. I had an iced tea made with Earl Grey tea and spices. So smooth and refreshing. This will be a yearly visit while I'm in Myrtle Beach for the winter.
The owners took the time to sit with us and we chatted about Italian cookies. We were sampling their scones with lemon curd and cream. A real treat!! Kathy and Anna asked me about an Italian cookie my family makes. I refreshed their memory by mentioning Napoleons. Don't miss stopping by this tea room. You won't be sorry.

Today was our 2nd trip to this tearoom and we cannot wait to return. My sister-in-law and I are tea lovers and this place was a wonderful treat. The variety of teas is remarkable and can be made decaf for you. The food is excellent. Owners are so very nice and the place is absolutely spotlessly clean

I'ts not a surprise to me that this Tea Room is rated number 2 in NC! I can not imagine what number 1 must be like! I took my mother, husband and neice there after the holidays and was simply in awe...From the greeting at the door by Anna and Trish to Kathy's Secret Garden Dressing, everything was top notch. Kathy's scones are the best I ever tasted and her Tomato Bisque Soup left me wanting another bowl. Their attention to detail is unsurpassed, and I have attended teas in Europe, so trust me, this was as good if not better than any tea I have gone to. And at a most reasonable price! There's a wide variety of savory tea sandwiches that are differnt from anything I have ever tasted. Not your typical fare at all. The desserts are all home made and you can tell. Everything melts in your mout... (more)

We went to celebrate two birthdays and had a wonderful time. Kathy and Anna were friendly and informative. The teas were wonderful and we learned about their production. The food was varied in flavor and presentation was beautiful. They even had a camera and gave us all a photo to remember our day! I have been to tea rooms in Georgia and Michigan that were very nice but this was my favorite! Nancy

Thank you for the delightful experience I have had over the last three weeks. First time I wandered in by myself. Found it to be very unique and friendly staff awaited me. Next week, I went back, took my three friends, and today returned with my daughter-in-law. Each time I found lunch to be exceptional. Highly recommend it to all if you want to share an event remembered!!

Today for lunch I had the Ragamuffin tea along with a house salad and tomato bisque. To finish I enjoyed a chocolate-chocolate cherry scone. It was all amazing! I have never been a fan of scones, today I realized it's because I have never had a good one. The tomato bisque was mouth watering. The attention to detail throughout the tea house was impressive, right down to the hand cut sugar cubes. Kathy and Anna provided wonderful service and were delightful hosts.

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! I visited the Calabash Garden Tea Room with two friends and it was wonderful! We started our 'Ultimate Tea' with a delicious Tomato Bisque. This was just the beginning of our 'Valentine Week' tea experience. Our tea sandwiches continued the theme with a heart shaped gorgonzola sandwich, a red ribboned apricot sandwich and four others that were equally as wonderful. Our chocolate scone with cherry chips was perfect and the desserts of dark chocolate covered strawberry, chocolate mousse in a chocolate cup with cherry on top, fruit skewer, and mint brownie were scrumptious! As you can see, I cannot say enough about this great tea room. If you are in the area, you must visit!

I loved my time at the Calabash Tea Room. The atmosphere was charming and cozy. There was a large selection of hats and boas for guests to use if you wanted to dress up, which i thought was really fun. The sandwiches were delicious and there were 5 varieties for each tea member. All the desserts were tasty and the presentation was pretty. I had a wonderful time and highly recommend the elegant, yet comfortable tea room.

Absolutely Refreshing! Kathy and Anna are a delight, along with their exquisite tea selection and amazing treats! The ambiance of the Calabash Garden Tea Room is festive, with splashes of color and glittering things all around. The fragrances fill the room as your goodies are freshly prepared in the kitchen. The presentation of tea and treats is so unique, the way it was done years ago, with frilly napkins and dishes painted with flowers and trimmed in gold or silver! Even your desserts will be wrapped with a ribbon! And don't forget to don yourself with the many hats, feather boas, elbow length gloves, or even a full length gown! They've even included the fellas for tea, with suit jackets and ties to spiff them up! This Tea Room is surrounded by little shoppes and ice creameries. A... (more)
