The Columbia Gorge Hotel is a wonderful old hotel with tons of charm and history, beautiful grounds with fantastic scenery, overlooking the Columbia River. The High Tea that is offered has a great selection of tea sandwiches, mini quiches, tartes, shortbreads, etc. The flavors are just superb. If you get a table overlooking the river, all the better.

The downside is that there always seems to be some sort of dissent among the servers here. They seem crabby, short, hurried, unprofessional, unattentive, impersonal and sometimes even rude. I've been here for tea several times in less than a year, and the waiter has never once acknowledged us as repeat guests, always going through his spiel about the hotel as if we'd never been before.

Still, I love it there, and will go back again.

Though the atmosphere is remenisenct of the 1930's it is not what I would want for a tea room. This is a resturaunt and thus the air if full of food smells and full chatter. The view is what my money paid for and it is beautiful. I love the columbia gorge and the river. The faire was too fancy and not staying with in what we consider to be true tea faire. But we did like the desert. Not the sweets but desert. Another alteration to true tea menus.

I have been to High Tea at the Gorge Hotel twice this year, once in June when the gardens were gorgeous and again in early fall (gardens still quite nice). Both times I found the tea to be beautifully presented and the food to be varied and delicious. If I could only offer one suggestion, it would be that the pastry chef (not the individual posting the previous note) should have changed her chefs jacket as it was quite messy from her food preparation. Having said that I would recommend anyone who enjoys going for a special high tea event to make a reservation at the Gorge Hotel....especially during the late spring to mid summer when you can stroll thru the gardens and walk off a few of the calories of the tea!
