As soon as you walk into the tea room you are overwhelmed with a sense of warmth, beauty and elegance. It is obvious a great deal of time and effort with attention to detail went into selecting the color pallet on the walls, artwork and beautiful china. It was clearly designed by someone who has a keen sense of style. The teas were varied, food presentation was pleasing to the eye and tasted as good as it looked. We enjoyed it so much we are having our dear friend's birthday party there. It was a pleasure to meet James who expertly guided us in the selection of our menu for the upcoming event. We are certain our guests will have a unique experience. Thank you James.

What an extraordinary place! I held my daughter's baby shower there yesterday. I was expecting it to be nice, but had no idea how awesome an experience it would be. The teas were varied and wonderful, the food was excellent (even better than I hoped for) and the environment is both elegant and comfortable. But I was completely blown away by the level of service and the warm, caring attitude of everyone there. Totally helpful and accommodating, way beyond my highest expectations. And the owner, James, enhanced the experience even more with his charming, knowledgeable discussion about the teas and scones. Could not have been more delighted!

I wanted to take a moment, to say thank you for a job well done. My daughter's bridal shower could not have been better. From the moment I arrived and saw how beautiful everything looked, I knew this would be a shower she will remember fondly. I want to thank your staff for the assistance provided unloading my car and then helping Christina load her gifts into her car at the end. I could not have asked for better service, the ladies were very gracious throughout the event. Our guests had a delightful time and I heard many wonderful compliments about the food, service, teas, and you. I cannot thank you or your staff enough for helping us to keep the surprise right up to the very last minute. We have wonderful memories for years to come.

      Thank you very much.

      Sincerely,

      Julia Sheridan

Cosy Cupboard has a special place in my heart--because its owner, James, has a big heart himself. Every year he generously donates a Grand Tea to be auctioned off to help numerous charities and schools, including the one I'm directly involved with, which provides critical services to children with autism. It is always a highly bid-on auction item, mostly because Cosy Cupboard is known in the area for its so-quaint atmosphere and its wonderful foods and teas. The apple butter and cinnamon scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam are really good and the tomato soup is some of the best I ever tasted. The tea sandwiches had a nice assortment. The Grand Edwardian tea was a good value--I couldn't finish it all and I have a large appetite! I had the Darjeeling (loose tea) with it was rich and flavorful. Another really nice thing: they don't rush you and you aren't crammed in. So if you want to go with some friends and have some quality time, this is the place to go.

I hosted a baby shower. The theme was a Classic Winnie the Pooh. The event was held Nov. 15 and the experience was everything I hoped for. James made it a true event, everyone had a wonderful time. The food and service were excellent. The scones were absolutely the best I have ever had. What made the day such an wonderful experience was the staff. I recommend that you consider the Cosy Cupboard for your next event.

I just logged in today to leave a review for our visit yesterday with friends (and three children! they were very accommodating of the children and knew just how to pace things to keep the kids from climbing the walls, and we were there for the grand tea). We stopped in before going to the Morris Museum (just around the corner), and every single thing we had was fantastic. These are the only tea sandwiches I have ever enjoyed (the egg salad was deliciously herby), the chocolate mousse was rich, the tea was perfectly brewed, the scone was delightful (I tried the lemon poppy seed and the butter brickle my husband ordered) and the Devonshire cream mentioned below was impressively fresh (fresh enough there was some visible whey on the plate, perhaps accounting for Arielle's impression it was spoiled? it was delicious to me and I certainly didn't get ill, nor did anyone else with me). We intend to go back often as a sort of informal tea time and a show with the museum's theater program.

I came here for my birthday with some friends. The atmosphere is very cute and quaint. I was not very impressed with the food however. My clotted cream seemed sour or spoiled. I was not very thrilled. Not sure if I would come back nor would this be my first choice for afternoon tea.

We were so disappointed in the service and unsophisticated demeanor of the personnel of this tea room. The food tasted good but lacked in quantity. I was looking forward to a ritualistic English-Victorian style service with the 3-tiered tea cake server that allows guests to sample delicacies and taste more than one sandwich piece per person. However, the service was an American - 3 course style. We received a single plate each with 5 rationed mini-sandwiches each. 30 minutes later, it was followed by one scone each on a clean plate. Our last course was dessert. I was hoping for a plate of miniature pastries to redeem the meal, but this was not so. For example, my mother received a 3-inch peach tart cut in half.

Everything went beautifully and the ladies could not stop raving about the place and how they couldn't wait to come back. The atmosphere is lovely and not overly decorated. My friends and I on a dreary, rainy Friday afternoon had the Grand Tea in this lovely teahouse. We were greated by Mr. James Howard, the owner, and he escorted us into the lovely Victorian dining room. The service was wonderful. We enjoyed several varieties of tea with the fresh tomato basil soup followed by a wonderful salad. We enjoyed the variety of tea sandwiches and then we had scones with cream and jam. Mr. Howard explained some of his vast knowledge of tea to us. We then were served a variety of dessert, which was enjoyed by all! It was a delightful afternoon!

When my husband Gene and I were in the mood for a nice cup of tea to refresh our spirits and take away the gloom of a late January afternoon, we were fortunate to find the Cosy Cupboard Tea Room on Old Turnpike Road in scenic Morritown. Little did we know what a rare treat lay in store for us. Not only did we find the delicious and soothing tea we were seeking, we also discovered a magical place where beauty reigned and good taste ruled the day.

We were greeted by James, the warm and friendly proprietor, who treated us like old friends and in the course of an enriching, delightful conversation quoted Henry James, shared stories about his amazing family, and introduced us to one of his friends, a beautiful woman and former M.D., Unjeria Jackson, who recently wrote a book about her personal collection of over 10,000 teapots. Her book, Teapots by Design, was so artistically pleasing and so well-researched that we purchased a copy. We highly recommend it for any tea lover who also enjoys collecting.

Basking in the warmth of good conversation, and comforting cups of tea, Gene and I felt as if we entered Victorian England, as we enjoyed our feast of home-made soup, sandwiches, and savory scones hot from the oven. Everything was served on Royal Albert fine china by Annabella, our most helpful and friendly server.

We highly recommend the Cosy Cupboard Tea Room to anyone who longs for a warmly lit space where elegance and charm await to please. Our experience there was one we will long savor and hopefully share again with friends.

Where do you go when you want to unwind? Take a time out from life or just enjoy a private conversation without the distractions of tragedy and stress plaguing many of us in recent days?

Can't think of that perfect place? I can. About a month ago, I stumbled onto a cozy afternoon tea room in Morristown, New Jersey called 'The Cozy Cupboard'.

I discovered this lovely tea room because my wife is a big tea fan, and I thought it would be a nice thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.

I discovered this cozy little tea house through teamap.com while on a recent trip to PA.

Everything about The Cozy Cupboard is enchanting. The decor is warm and inviting. The tea was very well prepared and the tea sandwiches artistically arranged on the floral Royal Albert china plates.

I indulged in the scrumptious Iced Poppy scone and decadant chocolate mousse.

Both James Howard, the proprietor and his son Vinnie were welcoming, attentive and engaging.

My only regret is that I'm from the Boston area and can not return as often as I would like. This tea house is a 'must do'.

I really enjoyed my afternoon tea. However, I felt the service was a little slow and we didn't receive a pot of tea we requested, we didn't make a fuss since we we waited so long and were ready to leave so we let it go. I wasn't impressed that the creamer dish on our table had quite a bit of dust in it. Overall I would go back, the staff was very friendly and seemed to be willing to accomodate our requests. The soup was delcious as well as the salad, sandwiches and scone. I didn't care for my dessert, but it could have just been my choice.

My first visit to the Cosy Cupboard was wonderful! We were cordially greeted by the owner and server upon our arrival. The atmosphere is not at all stuffy, and we were truly shown genuine hospitality. Our five tea sandwiches were very tasty, and the scone was perfect! The mixed salad was fresh, and the pear tart and cheesecake desserts were delicious! We chose the green fruity tea (can't remember the name) which was very good. You can stay as long as you like, and will be asked if you would like another choice of tea to try. The best part is the reasonable price of this tearoom experience. I will definitely return to this charming tearoom for another pleasant afternoon!

This is my second review for the cozy cupboard. It should have been posted a long time ago but life got in the way. In any case, i had my bridal shower at the cozy cupboard in april and i couldnt have asked for a better place, host, food etc.

I searched a lot of different venues, some tea rooms some not but none offered what the cozy cupboard did. James, his son and entire staff are wonderful to work with. Their prices are on point for the quality of food and service that you get.

All my guests enjoyed themselves and still talk about what a great time they had. I cant wait to gi back. Me and my now husband have been acjing for aome of their amazing tea sandwhiches and scones! just thinking about it is making me hungry for some.

I just got back from Cosy Cupboard and wanted to post a quick review. I went with a large party - 10 people, 5 adults, 5 kids - to celebrate my mother's birthday. I have to say, the food was unexpectedly good. We tried just about everything on the menu and the biggest hit was The White Sands. It came with something called 'chicken roulade.' We all thought it was going to be a chicken sandwich of sorts, but it wasn’t – it’s hard to explain, but it was absolutely delicious! I’m glad my dad ordered it and (reluctantly) let us all try it! James couldn’t have been a more gracious host. He even showed us the proper way to eat a scone, which was fun. The tea selection was nice, too – I wish I remembered the name of the favorite, but it was something with orange and those of us who tried it (hot as well as iced) liked it a lot. The service was very relaxed and perfect for our party and we were grateful we weren’t rushed in and out. If you read these reviews, thank you James! And thank you for helping my mom feel so special with your surprise when we left :)

The venue was beautiful. The sandwiches were wonderful, as was the desert and soup. The scones were nice, but I found them average. The tea also was good, but the variety needs to be a bit better and the house tea needed a bit more flavor. Overall the experience was very pleasant with a wonderful atmosphere, and beautiful location. Easy access for those driving or commuting from the city or surrounding areas. Service could have been just a hair better, but the owner was very kind and helpful and engaging. I would go back.

I hosted my future sister in law's bridal shower here in February and it was a fabulous event! We did a basic 4 course menu (salad, sandwiches, scones, and dessert). There was a selection of five teas to try and we also brought champagne and they set up a mimosa bar for us. Everything was delicious but the scones were my favorite. James helped me plan every aspect of the shower and executed everything perfectly. The flowers they provided for the tables in the color of my choice were beautiful. The two servers were professional and attentive and everything was served in a timely, but not rushed, fashion. The ambiance in the rose room was lovely and it was the perfect amount of space for 25 people. All the guests were very happy, including the bride. I will definitely be back again!

I guess we picked the wrong day to have a baby shower. James the owner did not give us a formal contract for the services of the event. I had arranged a meeting to sample the food and settle on a reservation, James was two hours late for our appointment his excuse was that he forgot.I did sample the food for the event and it was fabulous as well as the service and quaint atmosphere. Expecting the food and service to be the same or better for the baby shower, I was really disappointed on how the event was organized, it did not go as planned. Perhaps it was the second party of the day and staff was exhausted. Our time for the event was changed three times by owner due to his first client being being a VIP customer and he did not want to rush her from the place so he gave us a 15% discounted but he made up for it in the gratuity (he did not mention % in the contract). The set up of the tables was wrong for the event, it was poorly planned, the owner winged the whole event and we did not get any of the desserts that were paid, also we had paid extra for a crepe station (for the presentation and food selection) well it was not done nicely. The tea was very good and the room was beautiful. The guests had a lovely time and said it was the best shower they have ever been to!! despite the side lines.

But service does matter also and it was very lacking that day.

From the fruit and cheese 'welcome' to the individual plates of deserts - every course (all 5 of them!) was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. Really, really delicious! Your people were responsive to any request we had and totally pampered our guests. And those scones . . . my mouth is watering right now just thinking about them. If anyone asks me where they should have their next event I will recommend without hesitation The Cosy Cupboard Tea Room!!

Hello James, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you and your wait staff for helping to make my daughter's baby shower a memorable event. All of the ladies enjoyed themselves and the English Tea 'experience'. I appreciate your helpfulness throughout the planning process and on the day itself. The raspberries and the balloons were very thoughtful touches and everyone loved your informative narratives!! Your staff could not have been more helpful, courteous and efficient. They were terrific!

Spent a wonderful few hours with my Mom yesterday. Food was fabulous, service incredible thanks to Vinnie. He was attentive, without hovering, helped us choose our teas, and made suggestions for the meal. Will visit again soon. Didn't see the 'new' customer coupon here on teamap, that is my only disappointment. Will definately go again, feels like home!

Thank you so much for another fabulous afternoon. My friends were veyry impressed (as was I again) with the service and the food was amazingly good. I tried the new Cranberry Apple tea that was just so delicious, I hope you will keep it on the menu! Vinnie is a terrific waiter!! I have had him both times I was there and he is excellent!! Very attentive with being obtrusive. Thank you also for making sure that you had English Trifle It was very good. Little touches like that will ensure your restaurant is successful :) I for one hope it is there for years to come!!

My four 'tea' friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Cosy Cupboard yesterday. The dining room was very pretty and comfortably set up. Service was great and the food just wonderful. Homemade soups were very tasty, scones maybe the best we've ever had. Thank you to the owner and a very attentive staff for a wonderful afternoon tea experience.

      Hello

I just wanted to again thank you so much for the lovely princess party you had for Carly today.

It was absolutely perfect! Carly really enjoyed herself, as did the rest of the girls.

It truly was the sweetest party I have ever had for one of my children. The servers were wonderful with the 'princesses' and you were amazing, engaging and I appreciate all you did to make my daughter's 7th Birthday party so special

I will be in again *(especially for the lemon poppy scones!)

      best regards,

      Kelly

Our baby shower yesterday was such a success largely due to you and your wonderful staff. The feedback I got as our guests left was all positive, they loved the food, the room, the tea, the china and the whole experience of an afternoon tea luncheon. When I got home I received phone calls telling me more of the same. Most of all Stephanie enjoyed herself and the afternoon.

I hope the ladies we not too loud, it seemed like the volume in the room kept getting louder as our event went on. Your professionalism and organization makes your Tea Room stand out among all the others that I have been to. My son-in-law is from England and he says The Cosy Cupboard is the most authentic and gets a thumbs up !!

If I was not a new grandmother and expecting another new grandchild, I would be asking you for a position at your Tea Room. I have always wanted to either run or work in a Tea room - it is just one of those life dreams. Instead, I will come and enjoy lunch whenever I can.............................

Thank you again for a wonderful day, that we will never forget.

      Linda and Stephanie

Mr. Howard, my friends and I deeply appreciate you accommodating us on a day that you are not normally open. I had come in from the Upper East Side of NY to dine at your lovely place and you and your staff made the trip well worth the effort. The ambiance was extraordinary The scones were delicious, and the service was superb. I am already looking forward to my next visit.

I guess we picked the wrong day. Because of large party (at least that's what the waiter kept apologizing for)our food did not arrive until almost an hour after we ordered. The tea was very good and the food is freshly made. But service does matter also and it was very lacking that day.

The ladies from Word of Life Christian Ministries Women’s group want you to know that they had a marvelous time at The Cosy Cupboard on Saturday.

They were quite impressed with everything. You’ve have done a tremendous job in pulling all the needed details together in such an impressionable way. Everything was done with such good taste, yet it was relaxing ... not stiff and stuffy. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was amazing.

We had 25 ladies for a baby shower and no one left without telling me what a beautiful place to host an event. Our food was served to us in the most friendly, helpful atmosphere where our cups and plates were constantly being refilled! There were so many staff and each one was more personable than the other! It was like one big family supporting this event to make sure it was a 100% success. The food was delicious and I will never forget the outstanding service. The Cosy Cupboard offers that good old fashioned charm with service that is hard to find these days! There were about 40 boxes that we opened and I never lifted one item myself. Each staff member helped me to load the cars...Didn't even ask...just knew what to do.

It is a well run room and the proprietor and his assistant are helpful, professional and quite accomodating!

If you want an event to remember I can recommend this tea room and promise you will be delightfully surprised! And, if you want a quiet afternoon tea to enjoy with the ladies this place is for you! I can't thank them enough for a job well done and I look forward to purchasing their teas and visiting again.

I have been here now both for lunch and my baby shower was held here. Wonderful for lunch, the food is scrumptious and the scones and english trifle are to die for. The ambiance is perfect for a high tea, lovely room and the service is top notch.

For my baby shower, the staff truly went all out. I knew it was going to be a lovely event but I didn't know they were going to help park guests cars, carry gifts for them, design beautiful menus, make more than enough scones (guests couldn't get enough!), and I can go on and on....

Absolutely top notch place for getting together with one friend, or having an event for over 30. I can't wait to go back.

I love the Cosy Cupboard Tea Room. We were there for the Grand Opening and again last Friday. Cosy Cupboard has a large selection of teas ( whole leaf). The food is divine. The decor is exquisite. The owner is a gracious host. They also have rooms for private parties.

I had tea with my sister at the Cosy Tearoom. We had a wonderful time. It was so quiet and peaceful. What a relief from such a busy day. The food was excellent! The presentation was outstanding! James Howard sat down and chatted with us. He is charming and friendly. He makes sure that your tea is a wonderful experience. I plan to return with my sister to celebrate her birthday. I have also told many of my friends about this hidden jewel in Convent Station.

I just returned from another visit to the Cosy Cupboard.

First, I want to apologize to the proprietor James Howard (not James Robert) for changing his name in my previous review.

Second, a friend and I were served tea in the Cameo Room and my friend mentioned how calming the room color was (a beautiful green) and how personable and polished he found James to be. He also loved the food and thought the chicken roulade was exceptional.

This time, instead of the Italian wedding soup listed on the menu, we were served a richly flavored tomato soup that was just delicious. In addition, they had lemon poppy seed scones that were delectable.

I'm confident that this tea place will be a favorite of many in the near future.

I expected a bland experience because the outside of this tea house is an uninspiring square-looking house but our encounter inside left us in awe.

My boyfriend and I tried this place on their grand opening weekend and what a delight it was. James Robert, the owner and host made our experience wonderful. Since we were the first arrival of the day, we were introduced to the staff and were seated in the crisp and simple but impeccably designed Rose Room with matching tableware. Their other room, the Cameo Room, is equally as stunning and is in the process of being fully furnished. I must take tea in this room next.

I opted for the five course tea service and also an order of quiche on the side. The Italian wedding soup and salad was delicious and the finger sandwiches and quiche were very good. The lemon pound cake I ordered for dessert was excellent. The chicken roulade with Stilton cheese that my boyfriend ordered rendered him speechless (except for a few umms and ahhhhs) so I was compelled to sample it. My reaction was “OH MY” this is absolutely divine!

Since they are not in full business mode yet, they offered a slightly limited selection of 9-12 teas but will have 42 teas to choose from in the future. I believe the black tea we ordered was Lady Londonderry and it was excellent. They do leave the leaves in the teapot which can render the tea bitter if you don’t drink it fast enough. We did not have this problem but if you prefer not to have this, I suspect the host would be agreeable to straining the tea before serving if you asked (although we did not ask).

The service was superb and the total experience was so relaxing with the addition of the piano and classical CDs playing in the background. As a result of this exquisite tea service, The Cosy Cupboard has now made it on my list of two favorite tea places along with High SocieTea. For my boyfriend, it is now his number one place.

      Additional info for future patrons:

      - They are in the process of stocking their gift shop

      - Parking is in the rear of the building but the entrance is in the front

      - We found it difficult to find via GPS because Convent Station was not in either of our two GPS units, instead we had to enter in Morristown

      - The place is located across from train tracks next door to a Montessori school

Two suggestions for the tea room:

      - They must put the zip on their web site so that the place can be found in a GPS and they might want to say on their website “If using a GPS, you might have to enter Morristown.”

      - They need to spice up their scones as they were way too simple. There’s this English lady who sells scones at the farmer’s market on Sundays from June through October at Olde Lafayette Village in Lafayette, NJ that are absolutely the best scones I’ve ever tasted next to the ones served at High SocieTea. My suggestion would be to try to imitate these flavors.

In summary, The Cosy Cupboard surpassed my expectations and will only get better with time.

James, let me thank you for the wondeful job that Tom and your staff did... I would be happy to recommend you to anyone. Working with your staff was a pleasure, these kinds of events are once in a lifetime and thus there is a lot of pressure and stress to do a good job, my reliance on the Cozy Cupboard was the smartest decision I made! Many thanks, Barbara

Although not officially opened yet (as of 7/27/10), I had sneak peak visit to the Cosy Cupboard. A WONDERFUL establishment, The partners in the business are tops! They are very customer friendly, hospitable and run a warm and welcoming operation. The room itself is nicely decorated, has very comfortable seating, has appropriately chosen background music and they serve using elegant fine china. Tea is looseleaf (over 40 to pick from) and is served with fancy silver strainers. Food is top quality and prepared with utmost attention to detail. They are very new, so just be patient as they work out their kinks @ first and enjoy your experience!
