My husband and our friends had a fantastic experience in this tearoom. It is so true that they have the best food, scones, and the most beautiful tearoom we have ever visited. We came all the way from San Francisco and have traveled the world but cannot remember a tearoom better than this place. The scones truly melt in your mouth and the owners are the best! Thanks so much, Mr. Tony and Miss Nancy! You two made our visit to Coronado so memorable and perfect! We can't wait to return.

We totally enjoyed this tearoom. We read all of the reviews before going and must say we agree plus more with the raving reviews for service, ambiance, presentation, and the excellent food. We have to say we did not experience anything negative, but it was the owners who served us the weekend we visited. Teh only problem was we were late because of an accident on the bridge, but the tearoom did not have any problems accommading our tardiness. Everything was more than everyone has talked about. We were referred by neighbors who had been there during Christmas and even their reviews were surpassed by our experience! Try it you will like it. There prices are more than reasonable. We have gone to Tea at the Aviara, the empress, brussard gardens, and some other tearooms locally and this one tops all. Really! you have to experience it yourself.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed much too long. Sorry~ time flew by so fast. We did not encounter any tip problems that we read on this website. The owner did mention to us the total was all inclusive but we left extra even so. The only feedback is that we cannot get a hold of someone very easily to make resrevations. Hopefully they will be more available in the future. They did call back when we left our phone number. We will return since we truly believe it is a the most beautiful tearoom with great food and service. Thank you.

I too had a tip problem here. My friend and I enjoyed tea here & we felt the service was okay. I was not aware that the tearoom adds an 18% for two people. So when the bill arrived, I just signed it and put the receipt in my purse. Not being a skimpy tipper's we left $ 10.00 each for our server. When I got home, I found that the tip had been included in the bill! Long story short, I left a 15.00 tip! OUCH! My caution to others is to check your tab before you tip. I did not and felt pretty bent out of shape because of it.

Everything had been wonderful until our fourth visit when Nancy became extremely cold and phony due to a misunderstanding where she adds 15% onto the bill and my daughter wanated to give a 20% tip and misunderstood and ended up giving 35%. When we called Nancy, she was absolutely horrible about it. My daughter was also trying to buy me a teapot as a surprise so it was extra hectic for her. We are so sorry about Nancy's behavior and won't be visiting again.

Dear Mary,
We feel this is truly a big misunderstanding. We have the receipt and back up statement that shows that we charged the normal 20% for parties of 5 and more, and not the 35% you mentioned. We would like to share the credit card receipts with you if you would like to come in and discuss it. We do miss having you and Erin (her beautiful smile) in our tearoom.

We have become regulars of this tearoom and want to post our review on this website. The Santos Family is delightful. They are so service oriented and want to make sure every detail is attended to. All of their teas and menu items are delicious. We are addicted to their scones, and unfortunately must have it at least once a month or so. We also enjoy their sherry and champagne. We love to enjoy the ambiance while sipping our drinks before tea. We have been coming to Crown City Tearoom after a year they opened and will continue to enjoy the beautiful place they have created for many years.

I stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado and asked where my wife and I might have tea since we are regular tea goers. We were told about this tea room and so they made reservations for us the following day. I informed the tea room staff that I only eat what is tasty and to my liking. Before I knew it I was stuffed and very satisfied. I could not believe everything off our three tier tray was gone and then the scones arrived. I have never tasted a more delightful scone and ended up getting some to go. This is a tearoom you would expect from one of the country's finest resort communities, Coronado, CA. I agree with the last review whole heartedly!!!!
I too have been to this tea house It is okay if you have a pallet of a ten year old. That is just my opinion however. The teamap site is for UNBIAS review. Not all of us will like the same thing. This site is not for attacking customers feelings about their experience at a tea house. I was shocked to read some of the tea house responces. Very unsavory indeed for them to say such things to and about persons that do not like their tearoom. Shame on them! I think they need to understand that not all will enjoy their tearoom. You can not please all. On the other hand, some will just rave about it and enjoy it wholeheartedly. Both are okay. In this economy, tea is a luxury to many of us. When you go, you want to feel as if you g... (more)ot your moneies worth and enjoyed the afternoon. It is okay to let your own feelings through about your experience. If the reviews can save one person from tossing away 29 dollars and up, than good job to Teamap and the coustomer who was brave enough to give their own review, good or bad. On the other hand, enjoying their experience and sharing that info is great too! The Teamap site had done it's job well and used as intended. Maybe if this business was a bit smarter, they would take a some stock in what some are saying. Business can ALWAYS BE IMPROVED! I have found that I learn much from both good and bad. If this business is worth it's salt, it will thrive regardless of some who do not like it. Why attack those who do not enjoy what they have to offer? There is such a thing as freedome of speech and opinion. We all should enjoy this on Teamap without being afraid of expressing our experiences. I think it is so weird to feel as if you express your true feelings about a business, you may get slandered, put down, lied about, told off etc. I do feel as if we should write our reviews with a bit of softness, however, to drag one down in a public forum that is all about unbiased reviews is very unsavory indeeded. Hopefully we can all go to this site for unbiased reviews of a business and seek out the place that will best fit our needs as a tea lover. After all, that is what afternoon tea is all about.

We tried over 7 different teas and there were 5 of us, but we just can't have anymore or we would have had to float out. Our favorite is their houseblend, which was just perfect and no bitterness. The scones are divine- I had to order a dozen to take home since I sadly live too far away to visit as frequently as I would like… And the proprietress, Mrs. Nancy’s knowledge of teas was truly awesome- Thank you Nancy for taking the time to discuss the types of teas and how to pair it perfectly to each dish. I have been to almost every tearoom in SD county and I was really looking forward to this tearoom, ranked #2 in the state. What a let down. Drop the 'I am better than all of you' attitude, the only people who care for it are from Coronado. Needless to say, I will not be returning. PS your bread was dried out and old. And your lemon curd was terrible. One more thing, not everyone at the table likes the same tea, so why do we all have to share one pot. One last thing, if you have 88 different teas available why do you only show eight, I didnt really like any of the eight you showed.

We visited the tearoom on March 2nd, the weather was beautiful and I was ready for tea! I had just been to a tearoom in Rancho Cucamonga and was very pleased and was hoping for the same enjoyment. I however left Crown City Tearoom with a mediocre thought. The teas and food were good, and surprisingly even though I thought the portions were very small I walked away full. The major disappointment was the service. We waited at least 30 minutes before we got services at our table and the tearoom was less than half full. We were asked by each server multiple times if we wanted wine, as if there was no communication. However the server that we finally ended up have waiting on us was very pleasant. I just wish I had a better feeling about it, the place has potential!

We are regulars at this tearoom and love it! We are writing this review to respond to Lady Lisa's comment below and her friend R's. They both were at this tearoom last Sunday when my friend and I were there having our regular high tea. Shame on you two for returning to these people's tearoom so you can post negative comments again. The man who served you is one of the owners, and the one who told us the story about how you and the Victorian Tea Society of East County were invited to their soft opening and was given a 10% discount so you can help with giving them practice runs. And what did you do? You posted their very first review that was so HORRIFIC! It is a good thing people know of your awful reputation and didn't pay heed to your ridiculous whining; not to mention having to put... (more) up with your less than perfect grammar. We hear from other owners that they are not happy to serve you at their tearooms any longer. You know that they can refuse service to you and your friend R if they wanted.
Yes, Crown City Tearoom's scones are the BEST! But so are their desserts and ssndwiches! We hope that we never have to run into you again at this tearoom or even in our City period. They are doing very well and don't need you nor your friend's negative KARMA.

Dear R,
Thank you for your comments. We are truly sorry that we can't please everyone. Out of over 370 people we have already served just in the beginning of this year, we have never had any complaints about my desserts being crummy. I did get one other complaint about my egg salad last year since I opened a year ago from a very nice young lady - who told me, but didn't post it on line. She indicated that it might be on the salty side, but she must be one of over 2,000 we have served since we opened up. I thanked her and informed her that I intentionally make my sandwiches very flavorful because my clientele love it that way. Again, sorry we can't please everyone. But, as you know there are many other excellent tearooms in SD County for you to choose from. That is the beauty of it all. Good luck to you and best wishes.

I, as well, did not have a favorable eperience at this tea room. I and three other ladies arrived to a locked door. After much knocking...I could see someone in there...we were told to come back in an hour. The tea room has lovely antiques and was very elegant. The service by Jessica was wonderful. However, the food took forever to be delivered and we were starving! Then, my mother and I decided to share the formal tea. Looking at the bill later, I noticed we were charged a $10 split plate fee!!! (there was no splitting done back in the kitchen) I manage a tea room, myself,in another state and was not left with a favorable impression of this one at all.

Dear F -
Sorry your experience was unfavarable in our tearoom. Our split charge is not $10 and certainly not designed to cover any splitting of food in the kitchen. It is designed to cover costs of people not paying for a service: the costs of linens, using fine bone china, silver ware and fine linens. We wash every single piece of china by hand - there is no machine washer in our facility. It also covers cost of high rent, kitchen staff, etc. But, of course you are aware of all this since you manage another tearoom in another state. I cannot respond to your other complaints since it was Jessica who served you, but we will discuss with her. Best wishes, Nancy Santos

Let me first start my review by saying I adore sharing High Tea with my friends and family and revel in trying new tearooms around San Diego.
My experience of Crown City was horrid. I have an 8 month old daughter and was unaware of their 'No child under 8' policy until we arrived for Sunday afternoon tea. I spoke with Nancy the owner and explained that we had an infant. She said she could not allow children in her establishment, explaining her 'high level of clientele' would forbid it. I suppose I understand so I said that we unfortunately would have to cancel our reservation. Nancy then told me that she would have to charge me 25% cancellation fee, no, actually more than 25% because I was canceling on the spot. I rebutted because I was unaware of the policy, and she said sh... (more)e would talk to her husband. She disappeared for a minute and returned with her husband saying they could seat us in the front courtyard, which is really the entryway from the street. We agreed, trying to make the best of the situation and relaxed to what was a stuffy and uncomfortable tea. The food was average and the tea selection was not stellar. However the end of the tea was the icing on the cake. We received the bill stating $21.95 per person + tax. We each gave a credit card and when the swiped receipts arrived they were each charged an additional 20% mandatory gratuity 'for parties of more than 4'. We had 4 adults and one infant. Apparently an infant is not welcome in the tea room, but is eligible to make the party of 4 adults a party of five.
I have honestly never had a worse experience at a tea room, it was ridiculous.

Dear Jessica (To a very pretty young, young lady)
I am sure you were very angry that day we offered you the outside seating, and we are truly sorry about your feeling so much anger. First, let me tell you that my tearoom is not just a business it is an extension of my home and a reflection of my passion. My customers are just like guests in my home. You have a very beautiful 8 month old - just like you. When you were seated outside your beautiful baby cried and my guests were still able to hear her from the inside and still complained to me. I did not bring it up to you, because at that point in time it was my decision to serve you outside as my guest. We did charge you a mandatory service charge, but it was not 20%, but only 15%, like every other group that comes in that are less than 5.
Again, you a lovely young lady and so is your baby, but Crown City Antiques & Tea Parlour is just not the environment that an 8 month-old would want to be if she knew where her mommy wanted to take her. Please care and hope you find a place that will suit you and your baby better.
Love,
Nancy and staff

My mother and sister took me to Tea at Crown City Antiques and Tea Parlour for my birthday. The ambience was so inviting and pleasant amidst all of the beautiful antiques. The table setting was lovely and the fresh flowers were a nice touch. The food was well prepared and nicely presented. The staff was kind and attentive. I look forward to my next visit this spring.

Thank you, Nancy, Nancy's hubby at the register, Jessica and Dee for a beautiful experience. I was there with my husband and guest from out of town last weekend. We were all very impressed with the hospitality and kindness you extended. Don't change anything, Nancy, you were the most gracious and kind hostess, as were your sweet staff. We have been to many tearooms and yours was the last on our list. Your tearoom by far exceeded any of the other tearoom's service, food presentation and personal attention to detail. We will return and will recommend to everyone!

I had a wonderful first time experience this afternoon at this tea parlour. I live in the area, and a friend invited us to join them. The warm scones were probably my favorite, but everything was wonderful, even the service. I am looking forward to bringing my Mother to this tea parlour for her birthday in June, but I may not be able to wait that long!

It is a pleasure to provide a review for this tearoom. We have been trying to find ways for the owners to improve and it has been hard. Their service is impeccable. Food is the best we have had in the business. Teas are perfect. And, their presentation and artistry cannot be compared to any of the tearooms we have been to. This place is just the epitomy of perfectionism. We love going here and highly recommend it to anyone.

My party and I had the most delightful experience in this tearoom. It is the best we have been to. It was a very busy day for them but Nancy and Jessica and their staff provided exceptional service to our party. We had the Christmas tea and it more than met our expectations. The scones were so delicious and so was everything else. Perfection is the only word I can think off when trying to describe our experience. Thank you for the most wonderful experience of the year!

What a beautiful place and not to mention that the food they serve are all so delicious. We came for their Holiday Tea and was so impressed with the service and presentation. We were served by the owner, Jessica and another lovely Tea Hostess related to the owner. It is true the owner is most sincere and gracious. We saw the packages wrapped in gold and Victorian bows that were at another table. The owner prepared it for their keepsakes and it was gorgeous. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience you provided us. I will return and will not need an excuse except that it is the most delightful place to be so you can unwind and relax.

The hostess and owner was unbelievably attentive and provided me and my husband excellent service. We are just visiting from Northern California and found out about this secret place in Coronado. It was the most wonderful experience for us. The food, the tea, the artistry and presentation far exceeded any five star dining experience we have ever had. We just wish we had a place in our city just like it. We will have to come again next year (but we ordered their frozen scones to take back with us). Thank you so much for the wonderful experience that we will remember for along time.

All A++++ marks on this tearoom for us. My family always visit this tearoom every chance we get! Our first visit was when my daughter turned 8 in the summer when they first opened up. They offered us the most superior service we can ever imagine. Nancy, who is the owner, gave her special treatment with a tiara and everything else that goes with it!!! We also have a son that is 11 and loves tea thanks to Nancy. She gave him his first tea etiquette lesson! We have a place in Phoenix and in Coronado. Whenever we are in town the first place we go to is this tearoom. There is no place in Phoenix nor anywhere else we have been to that has such delicious food and great service, not to mention the most elegant decor. They allow you to try all the teas you want and do not use the same leaves ove... (more)r and over again. Their teas are excellent nd boiled to perfection. Everyone and anyone out there who has not tried this place, you are missing something. This place will dazzle you in every way. We are so excited and thankful to have it in Coronado!!! See you all there during the Holidays and summers! Cheers!

This tearoom came highly recommended by many of our friends who had been there before. We made reservations way in advance and finally had a mavelous time last Sunday. It is a beautiful tearoom indeed! It was a very busy day for the owners. Bless their little hearts. They are the most hard working couple and so kind and generous. (Thanks for the chocolates!) The food is out of this world delicious. They served their famous butternut squash soup that apparently everyone on Sunday had been waiting for it all year. We heard several other guests comment that they came just for it and we can see why, but the scones are truly undescribly wonderful. We got to try both types: cinnamon and the cranberry almond. We shared each other's and both were equally delicious. We are going to come back in January with my family for a gathering. I highly recommend it and hope to see you all there.
