I enjoyed this lovely tea room. The owners were very pleasant and welcoming and it's evident they've put much care into the place. Loved the stained glass features. The fountain provided a calming 'white noise' atmosphere in which I enjoyed the tea & scone. I'll be back, hopefully to try an afternoon tea with my daughter.

My mom and I had afternoon tea here this past Saturday. Everything was perfect. We were seated in the Asian room where the ambiance was quiet and peaceful, just what we were looking for. Between the two of us we tried 4 different types of tea and swapped with each other so we got to taste all four. Each pot brought to the table serves about 3 full cups of tea. Everything about this tea room speaks of quality, attention to detail, expertise in tea service, and care of customer. I'll be back again for sure.

I drove from Hampton to Richmond to give my friend a royal tea. When we arrived the customer service was good not great and when we tryed to pay, the credit card service was down. I looked for an ATM and when I got back 40 min. later, they did not give me a discount or say sorry for the inconvienience. The food was great and the tea was great. I think they should have a European tea set instead of Asian print. It did not go well with the decore.

My mother and I visited Cuppa Tea at the end of April for my birthday. I decided that I wanted to go tea room hopping across the state of Va. We had a wonderful time taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the tea room. The sandwiches were exquisite as were the teas. We took several selections home with us. This tea room gives such a personal feel as we were able to chat with the owner and her husband at length. Loved it! Will return as soon as possible.

My mother and I had the light luncheon tea. The variety of teas was fantastic; they had a tea to suit any mood. The sandwhiches were very tasty, and the presentation of the sandwhiches was very appealing. We especially enjoyed the use of color in the sandwhiches; for instance, the sanwhiches had black seasame seeds instead of regular seeds. The atmosphere of the tea room was very relaxing. I was completely blown away when I came to visit the tearoom! I came with one of my girlfriends and we had the light luncheon tea. We ordered this Romantic Earl Grey tea that was almost naturally sweet as well as the Bridal Shower Blend which I heard was the most popular by our waitress. The waitress had seated us in this very elegant room with a lot of paintings of natural things and a wonderful fountain. Our waitress was amazing too! I forgot her name but she was either of Spanish or Indian ethnicity. She was highly detailed with her service and answered every question, and also very funny! I remember I had a few questions about certain teas and instead of leading me down a wrong path like most servers do she checked with the owner before moving us further along, for it was our fi... (more)rst time there. Also she left us two large golden plates that had different canisters of teas on them so we could smell the aromas- this was the most interesting part of our experience. Aside from this, what intrigued me as well was the creativity in the food. There were so many sandwiches and the scones were wonderful! We had the rasberry white chocolate and blueberry scones, they were delish! My compliments to the chef who apparently is a 'genius' with food as our waitress referred to her- I agree 100%!!!!
However, I have to agree with one of the critics here in that the noise level in that room is unsatisfying. Especially coming from the kitchen- if I'm not mistaken it sounded like I was hearing the owner scold at one of her servers using curse words and it almost sounded like she was hitting things...I wouldn't have heard this but we were seated right next to the kitchen and she was quite loud. It sounded like there was a server in training and she had made a mistake that really upset the owner- again I wasn't trying to listen but it was very loud. Just some advice, when a person is in training that's not the best way to train =/

I've been to several tea rooms and felt Cuppa Tea had a nice selection of teas and enjoyed looking at the many teapots for sale. However, an area that needs improvement is the quality of the food, which seemed merely average. It did not have that homemade, je n'ai sais quoi. I understand that price is relative to location, but the menu selection did not have the delectable tastes I was hoping for.

This tearoom is awesome! I came here for a baby shower, and we ordered several different tea services from the options. We had a large selection of teas that we were able to smell and ask questions about before choosing. We also had so much food in our tea service and all of it was amazing, well-prepared, and served by a very good waitstaff. I actually was quite surprised by the quantity and quality of the food. There was also ample tea! I am a vegetarian, and they prepared a special service for me. The meat-eaters were equally satisfied. The chef and owner, Lurline, even came out to talk to us and to see how we enjoyed our experience. I highly recommend this tearoom with no hesitations.

My mother a friend and I went to Cuppa Tea today. From the moment we walked in it was an enjoyable experience. Our server left the tea selections at our table so that we could smell them and then answered our questions about the teas and helped us to choose two very incredible teas each (I had to busy some Mayan Chocolate tea to bring home!) Our server was outstanding and very attentive. The only suggestion I have is that this server had five tables at the same time, so sometimes it took a little while to get what we had asked for. Another server would probably be helpful. The food was outstanding. We had high tea. While I didn't enjoy every food -- I don't like olives or coconut -- the ones I tried were great. You can't please everyone though and the variety of food was enough to... (more) offer something for everyone. The three of us mixed and matched sandwiches and desserts to get what we wanted. Even the restrooms -- which you visit often when you drink that much tea -- were lovely and very clean. Thank you for such an enjoyable experience. We'll be back.

My girlfriend and I went and were impressed by the beautiful decor. The tea and the waitress were lovely; the food was good until dessert - it was ok.
The thing that bothered me most was how noisy it was from the air conditioner and the kitchen. Tea, in my opinion, should be a relaxing experience. We had to speak loudly to hear one another, and I particularly had a hard time hearing my friend at all as I have difficulty hearing in background noise.
Certainly not a relaxing experience.

We apologize for the inconvenience.
For your information, Cuppa Tea has two dining rooms; The English Room and The Asian Room. The English room is the most popular and the sought after area. It is also where the airconditioning and heating unis are located and very close to the kitchen.
The heating and cooling unit were already in the building long before we moved in. We don't have control over the noise level when the mechanical and kitchen appliances cycle on.
I agree with you about tea should be a relaxing experience. You could have had that experience if you had communicated with your server about your issues.
Thank you for your feedback.

My second trip to a visually lovely tea room. This time however I was somewhat disappointed. The table was not completely dressed. There were no tea cups on the table. We had to request napkins. The server brought back 2 $5 bills in change to us although we had all paid separately. How do you get correct change for 3 different people when you bring back 2 five dollar bills? Or did she expect us to leave that in tip for her lackluster manner. We did not like the summer menu at all. Quite frankly I disliked all the sandwiches. I liked the previous menu a lot better. The only thing that I have no issue with was the tea itself which was lovely and the ambiance and decor of the tea room. I had great expectations since my first visit was so good. This visit was less than. I had mentioned t... (more)o my travel agent who is british about this tea room. I happened to see her just before going to Cuppa. She told me she did not like the Tea room even though it was pretty. That was at odds with my first experience that I was surprised. Now I can see what she meant. I will really have to thinktwice and perhaps see what the next menu change will be before and if I return.

This was my second visit to Cuppa Tea. The owners and staff are very friendly and the service is great. They have an excellent variety of teas.
The decor and atmposhere are quite nice.
HOWEVER, I think that the food is somewhat skimpy and over priced. The lunch and tea will cost over $16 by the time you add a gratuity.
Not very affordable for the average working persons lunch, so I would say save it for a very special occaision.
I would like to see more of a traditional tea room fare with the meal rounded out with some fresh fruit and a small dessert or two. Some of the items are just plain odd items for a tea room to serve.
I do not see myself going back anytime soon, and that is a shame, but I need more value for my money.
I truly hope this review helps the owners as I do not mean to be unkind, just realistic.

My friends and I have been looking for a warm, inviting place that really knows how to serve tea (e.g. removing the leaves from the pot before it overbrews). Cuppa Tea Company is just what we've been looking for! They pay great attention to details and create a lovely environment that is inviting for women but not so frilly that men feel uncomfortable. I had called ahead to reserve an afternoon tea, and I was amazed when Lurline contacted me the day before our reservation to inquire about any food sensitivities. She was wonderfully accommodating when she learned that I cannot eat mayonnaise (I usually just have to pass on many of the tea sandwiches). The non-mayo substitutions for me on our tray could not have been more delicious or beautiful! We were also pleased to see the wide var... (more)iety of teas offered(some blended by Cuppa). Our teapots were kept on warmers nearby, so every cup was as good as the first. Lurline and Allan have something wonderful here- a great mix of East meets West in a nice, convenient location in Uptown.
