My Sister and I throughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. The art deco decor allowed us to enter into a different era of the tea experience. Barbara our hostess was a joy. We have been back twice and will go again.

I love EGM. I go often; everything I've had there is fantastic; they've given me tips to make the tea I prepare at home better, and the service is warm and enthusiastic. I don't know what I'd do without them.

This is a lovely tearoom, and all the staff were very enthusiastic. I visited with two of my friends there, and we all had an enjoyable afternoon. The tea was perfect, thank you! I had the full afternoon tea but knew I would only be able to try most of the items, since I can't eat much. Unfortunately most of the sandwiches had a predominent cheese base, which I don't really like. They were very well made, so I can't grade them down for that. The scone was very well made. Couldn't taste the apple caramel tho. My friends had the chicken salad sandwich which was fantastic. I wouldn't have minded that as one of my little sandwiches. I'd go to this tearoom again.

Hi Val! Thanks for the wonderful review. We are so happy you enjoyed your visit with us. I looked back to our menus and did find one with cream cheese in most of the tea sandwiches. Our customers are our best asset when it comes to planning our menus. Thanks for the heads up. Please come visit again soon.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Earl Grey Manor Tea Salon Nonpareil last weekend. While most tea rooms offer excellent food, sometimes the quality of the tea is lacking. That is not the case here. At the Earl Grey Manor, they provide both an extensive selection of loose leaf teas (including white teas, green teas from both China and Japan, black teas, oolongs, rooibos, and herbal blends) and know how to properly prepare them. We enjoyed their Deco Tea, which includes traditional tea fare, the gracious service, and the Art Deco feel of the room. (Though it may be interesting to sip tea in their Samovar Tent or at their Gong Fu table during future visits.)
I do not live in the Sacramento area, but I believe most tea lovers will agree that this tea room is worth a train ride to visit.

Hi Sherry, Thank you for visiting EGM. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your experience and hope to see you again when you are in Sacramento. Please do make plans for a Silk Road Tea Tasting. Or for perhaps a new adventure, one our new offerings, Tea & Cheese Tasting or (even better) Chocolate & Tea Tasting, offering a selection of hand-made truffles by Michelle's Sweet SinSations and 5 wonderful teas with which we pair them. A lifted cup to you!

They were nice enough to seat me on short notice, thank you for that. I thoroughly enjoyed my tea at this unique historical location. There were some new things on the tray that I haven't had elsewhere and I wasn't able to finish everything because it was more than enough. I will be back.

I was at this tea salon over the Gold Rush Days weekend. These ladies and their staff were delightful dressed in their gold rush characters. Their afternoon tea was fresh, tasty and creative. What I like about this tea room is that they don't just do tea... they have other things on their menu, like fruit & cheese and smoked salmon and a chicken salad sandwich to die for. Their cookies are always different and fun. The scones are almost too big to eat. Yum! You have to ask for the Devon, so you must remember to do that because it's real and it's fabulous! The comments of two other people that didn't enjoy this place were rude and unfounded. They obviously live like mushrooms and don't get out much. Earl Grey Manor is outstanding. I've been there many times and will continue to go as often as I can.

My experience at the Earl Grey Manor was simply atrocious. The service was not bad but the food was terrible. There was no sense in its arrangement. Who has ever hear of a poppyseed and pepper scone??? Oh! And the chilled tomato soup! I might as well have ordered a tomato soup milkshake! Why would someone order want that? You could have just easily given me a can of tomato soup from your shelf and handed me some ice and it would taste about a million times better. It was horrible! If you are going to serve soup at least serve it HOT!

I always consider comments from our guests as a very positive aspect to the tea salon. I am grateful when they take time to share their experience. It is unfortunate Julia that our cuisine was not to your liking. I was pleased though that the service met with your approval. Enjoying a good cup of tea will often lead to experiencing the social aspect of having tea in a tea room. There are certain traditions associated with Afternoon Tea such as presentation, portions and always freshness and quality in everything that is offered. Typically you will find traditional and innovative offerings to experience. Broadening our food tastes can often be exciting and satisfying. At Earl Grey Manor we do change our Afternoon Tea cuisine each week. Perhaps you will consider a return visit. We do promise there will always be something new to discover, whether it be tea, food or ambiance.

This was one of the sorriest tea experiences we've had. We were seated next to a party of 5-6 women who were louder than loud, boisterous and obnoxious. The management did nothing to quiet them. The fare was awful allbeit ecclectic. The bacon/cheese stratta would have been good had it been warm. Instead it was ice cold. The lemon scone was tasty but served with what the waiter claimed was creme fraische. It was nothing more than thinly whipped butter. Sweets consisted of 3 cookies and a rose shaped pastry which was elegant to look at but tasted like elementary school paste. We were served one aram-style tea sandwich of chicken with sweet relish...not a very pleasing combination, along with one traditional tea sandwich of cream cheese/salmon/cucumber. All you could taste was the c... (more)ucumber. The eggplant brochetta would have been delightful had it not looked like two huge chunks dripping in oil. It reminded me of my first encounter with Escargot in Paris.
The tea offerings were generous and too numerous to count. It made for a delicious beverage but a difficult decision as to which one to enjoy. The wait staff was gracious and attentive. The decor felt like something out of Indian Jones and The Temple of Doom tobbaconist parlor peppered with a bit of hollywood/Charlie Chaplin doo-dads. What a disappointment.

We try to be gracious in the face of constructive criticism. After all, we have learned a lot from our customers in the past year and a half. It is unfortunate that you were seated next to the party. It was a pre-reserved birthday party who came with the intention of having fun, and indeed they did. It is also unfortunate that you did not find our cuisine to your liking. Our menu changes weekly and is most always received well. I must respond to your comment about 'creme fraische'. You are apparently not familiar with authentic double Devonshire cream, because that is what we serve. Our wait staff never refer to it as creme fraische. You may have been served mock devonshire elsewhere. I am glad you liked the tea and the service of our exceptional staff. We hope you will enjoy tea at other tea rooms and understand that we are not in competition with any of our tea industry associates. Though we all have the same goal... to enhance your tea experience, we are all of different decor, atmosphere and offerings. That is why we also enjoy visiting other tea rooms, as well. We seem to please most everyone of our customers. However, we continue to strive to be better. We cannot apologize for being different and 'outside of the box' as far as traditional tea rooms go. We would, however, apologize if any of our offerings may have been presented to you at less than our best.

I found the atmosphere discordantly eclectic, but fun where deco was concerned. The staff was attentive and polite (be sure to ring the bell placed on your table for prompt service). Most of the teas had too much sage which overpowered the more subtle herb ingredients, but the selection was good. My favorite part were the sweet accompaniments! The best red velvet cake, and intriguing jasmine macaroons.
