Variety: The English Rose Tea Room is simply the very best I have visited since leaving England in 1993. Having worked in the restaurant trade most of my working life in management I would like to offer my commments. My party chose a wide selection of goodies from the tradition English afternoon tea, a Nursery Tea, homemade mushroom soup with scone and for my husband a traditional 'ploughman's lunch' including Branston Pickle and pickled onions. This was such a treat for him. The food and presentation was impeccible, even with fine bone china, linen and decent cutlery!. My Darjeeling tea was simply delicious and I seemed to have a bottomless teapot. It was a truly lovely experience and I recommend this tea room very highly. Ms. Joanne is originally from Hampshire, England and has gone out of her way to make sure that the English experience is totally authentic in every way. |

Dear MarionThank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review..this is exactly why the Tea Room exists..to give ex-pats and Anglophile's a taste of the old country! So glad everyone had a great time and come by for a cuppa whenever you're in Carefree. |

Variety: I had been here 2 years ago and had a great experience but today, there was nothing spectacular except the dessert's presentation. I'm not sure what changed, but having been to many tea houses, I guess I expected more. The waitress however was very nice and did her job well. The place was crowded and we had to almost yell across the table. Not 'the experience' of an elegant tea parlour. |

Dear Anonymous,It's a shame when you are confident to write a poor review of our Tea Room under the an 'anonymous' title, but not able to tell us to our face what we could have done to improve your visit...I can only conclude you were annoyed by others enjoying themselves rather too loudly. Variety: My four girls and I were visiting Carefree AZ and stumbled into this adorable place. We were seated by this lovely girl who assured us we would enjoy our time, from which we did indeed. After ordering the Afternoon tea, our waitress, a stunning Russian lady, explained every item of the very impressive three-tiered tea down to the preserves and whipped cream. The scones were so delicious and the service was the best I have ever had. My girls had many questions about the tea and the server and young girl who sat us (the hostess?) knew an incredible amount about the different teas. I learned a lot about the difference between white and green teas, and subsequently bought quite a lot of tea to enjoy back in Malibu. Ironically the hostess is living in Malibu for school I enjoyed her so much I g... (more) |

Dear Tracy, Thank you for the lovely review. Kari and Natasha will be so delighted to know that you and your girls had such a wonderful experience at our Tea Room, they have both worked here a long time and I am so proud of how they treat the Tea Room as if it were their own. We like to think of our little place as an oasis in the middle of the desert! Please come back next time you visit Arizona. Jo Gemmill, Owner

Variety: My husband and I enjoyed the full afternoon tea at the English Rose, sitting outside and enjoying the ambience of the small town of Carefree, seemingly a long way from anywhere. The owner is English, which is very evident from the decor, which included a picture of Her Majesty in the 'powder room' and pictures from Hampshire, Joanne's home county. I have to agree with the other comments; the scones were delicious -very light and fluffy and obviously home made. My tea was also very good, a new one recommeded by our server and called Lemon Solstice. They serve loose tea with a tea strainer, so I could see the huge pieces of lemongrass and aniseed. The owner was extremely friendly and very British! My husband was happy to have a non-tea alternative, Ribena. This is a typical English... (more) |

Variety: I must say that on any review I do I put the English Rose Tea Room on the top of my list next to the Phoenician and my new discovery Tea Dreams. I must say the sandwiches are wonderful and so are the tea selections but this tea room excels when it comes to those wonderful scones!!!! I wish they would sell them frozen for me to bake up fresh at home. The only things I do not like about the tea room are that there are too many tables in the dining room, the desserts are not exciting and I usually get a tea cup that my finger can't fit through. I go to tea about once a week at various places throughout the valley and I sometimes I have to check everyones cup to see if there is one I can fit my finger through on the handle. Some ladies may not have this problem but as a guy this is something I always battle with... comfort in a tea room. I must say one more time.... THE SCONES ARE AMAZING!!! |

Variety: My mom and I LOVE tea, so I did a little research and took her to the English Rose for her birthday! Although the hostess was quite busy answering the phones, she greated us warmly and sat us quickly. We sat at a cute little table, and we were amazed by our surroundings... it is such a cute little place! But there was a large party next to us so it was quite loud! We didn't even know there was music playing til that group left. Our waitress, sorry I don't remember her name, was very friendly, patient and attentive. I ordered the vanilla tea (AMAZING!) and my mom had a green tea (good as well). We ordered the traditional afternoon tea meal and it was all great! The vanilla scones were to die for! We had a lovely time... but felt a bit ignored when the owner walked around to every table BUT ours to ask how everything was. Never the less, we will return because we enjoyed the atmosphere and the TEA! We both brought a box home with us! |

Variety: I surprised my mother in law with a reservation of afternoon tea at this lovely tea room for Christmas. We were greeted by name and we were seated promptly. The tea room that day was quite full (the middle of the holiday) but the service was uncompromised! I had the holiday tea, a black tea with orange and cinamon, yum! I bought some to take home with me to California. The food was excellent, sandwiches, scones, and sweet desserts. We couldn't finish it all, but were happy to take it home. I look forward to returning when we visit again! Thank you Jo and Fara! Jessica Wasar |
