This was the best time I have had in a long time. Everything was Great, very helpful and friendly staff. Decor was great, very girly, lots of pretty things to look at and see, even buy. New owner is a great lady and Gooseberries is back on my list of must-do's for family and friends. Thank you for doing the tea experience right.

My daughter treated me to Mother's Day tea at Gooseberries the day before Mother's Day. It was fantastic!!! The house blend of tea was fabulous. The sandwiches on the tray were so beautiful you didn't want to eat them (fruit and flowers tucked in between to add color and treats) - but they were such a rare treat of truly great tastes. The BEST EVER sandwiches for tea!!! The scones were to die for! Warm and so good. Perfect lemon curd. We asked for seconds of the lemon curd since we had heaped it on our scones. The desserts were the perfect finishing touch. The service could not have been better, and the place was absolutely packed. But we never waited for refills of tea, or waited for service - they were prompt and efficient and most of all friendly. We all look forward to retur... (more)

We held my mother's surprise 60th birthday here with a party of 17 women and had a fabulous time. The owner Debbie, chef, and everyone else bent over backwards accommodating all my requests, including seating us all at one long table despite large parties coming before and after ours. They also allowed us to do a tea during their normal lunch hours. They made it so easy and gave me so much peace of mind planning the event from California. Once you get over the fact that you're parking in a stripmall, you enter a completely feminine and friendly atmosphere for an afternoon tea. Gooseberries accommodated my all vegetarian menu, the chef and owner even called me a week in advance to go over the sandwich ideas and dietary restrictions again. The servers were friendly and responded to all the ... (more)

I love going to Gooseberries. I take my daughter quite often. It's a real 'ladies place' different from the restaurants I go to with my husband. The food is supurb, the atmosphere warm and welcoming. We never feel rushed, and like to linger over our food. I want to try a different tea from the house blend next time, but it was good. We will definitely be back over and over!!!

A friend and I had lunch at Gooseberries today, trying to locate a place to have another friend's bridal shower and absolutely fell in love with the place. The service was great-a true dining experience. We did not feel rushed and we were able to take time to enjoy both the food and the beautiful decor. The food was amazing. Homemade soups and desserts-fabulous! The chef came out to make sure we enjoyed our food and gave us a sample of something else-what customer service! We booked the shower on the spot without looking at other tea rooms because we enjoyed our experience so much. I'm flying my mother out from CA just to visit Gooseberries!!

Debbie and Doug are wonderful owners and are finally turning Gooseberries into the Tea Room it deserves to be. The place now finally LOOKS like a Tea Room and I really believe that they have what it takes to turn this place from restaurant into a delightful spot for Afternoon Tea. Congratulations!

My mother and I stopped in for lunch and were depressingly disappointed. The signature tea was nice, but served in irish coffee mugs, not teacups. (We discovered that teacups were available after seeing a sign on a shelf next to the restroom - something we were not informed of by our server.) Service was S L O W and our server was unable to answer basic questions about the menu. The food was average without a lot of effort put into it. Sandwiches still had the crust on them and the soup was lukewarm. The decor was lovely and the array of trinkets to purchase was very good. However, a little bit of charm and even a touch of warmth on the part of the hostess and servers would have made a world of difference. We will not be back - we'll make the drive to Carefree to go to the competition!

tearoom response
We regret that any of our patrons leave feeling this bad. I only wish that I would have been informed in person of the poor service and disappointment. I certainly would not have charged them if things were that depressingly bad. I must make note that lunch is not typically served in tea cups and the sandwiches are not served crustless. Our afternoon teas, however, are. Our teacups are not located near the restrooms as noted, rather they are near the kitchen for the convenience of the servers. It's possible that our newest server waited on these customers thus explaining the lack of knowledge of the menu. We continue to take all criticism seriously and will make any changes that will improve the quality of food and service. We are constantly reviewing these items and asking our customers for feedback. Again, we regret the bad experience and admit that this may occur sporadically but certainly is not always the case as other patrons have indicated in their comments.
