After going to the Tea Room the Gryphon had some big shoes to fill. We weren't there for afternoon tea though, just a quick bite to eat. I ordered the soup of the day and was horrified to find a roach in it. I've filed a report to the health department.

My family's experience at the Gryphon was quite enjoyable. The service was pleasant and prompt, the food was excellent and the teas delightful. I love the space as well. Well worth the visit. Management ought to be commended.

My friends and I visited Gryphon tea Room our first day in Savannah. The place was packed, but our waitress was extremly polite and helpful in picking out teas for us. The quiche was to die for. The tea room was the one of the best places we went to in Savannah, and I would go back in an instant!!

The gryphon tea room is in a great location and is unique inside (located in an old pharmacy), but the service is always poor. At best, the waitstaff is indifferent and slow.

This was the worst service I have EVER had. I dropped in with my cousin for tea around 5 p.m. The place was near deserted. We ordered high tea. It took 30 minutes to get a couple of dryed up cucumber sandwichs and petit fours and no tea! After watching our waiter stand and talk with one of his colleagues for another 10 minutes I walked over to him and asked him to interrupt his chat and bring us out tea, Now! A minute later a young man identifing himself as the 'MANAGER' came over to our table. I though he was going to apologize for the bad service but instead he told us to leave 'HIS' restaurant and never come back! So much for the hostess city and SCAD hospitality training! Trust me. We will never come back to this place and have never, ever been treated so rudely.

I had heard some not so great comments about the Gryphon Tea Room before I ever went... it turs out they were true. I was treated by a relative to High Afternoon Tea for 2, but the food selection was very limited (ham & butter and cucumber & cream cheese sandwiches; fruit that looked as if it had been sitting for some time [2 orange slices & 3 grapes], thre was only one type of each dessert on the tier instead of one of each for both of us), and the tea selection has about 12-15 types. We had to move from our first table because it was crawling with several flies. Our table setting was not clean (had to send the plates back because they had dried food on them) or complete when we arrived (no spoons), in spite of the fact that we had reservations. The tea was served in 'well-used' (i.e., ch... (more)

The tea service was excellent. The Scones and condiments were top notch, and I loved the fact that they used paper tea socks. The strainers over the cups at most places are fine, but this is just so convenient.
