I have been going here regularly, and wrote a very favorable review in March; but my enjoyment at this tea room has been gradually decreasing. I still find the quality of the food excellent, but the service the last few times has been downright surly. (I have had the misfortune to have the same girl the last several times...it must be her shift.) Today, I showed up with my mom just before closing, and we were told that if we both wanted to order the scones, there weren't enough fresh ones left for 2 people, but we could have frozen ones heated up. This did not sound appetizing, and we ordered just a pot of tea for one (which comes with 2 scones, the only 2 left for the day). I don't think it was filled all the way. We asked our non-friendly waitress if there was a little more tea, wh... (more)ich we have had in the past. First, she said 'no, everything has been shut off'. Then she said we could have a little more...but she charged for it, and did not tell us this would be the case. Considering that we have been somewhat regulars and that their lack of available fresh food was the only reason we were sharing the one pot, we found this extremely off-putting. Miss Surly also dragged a garbage pail noisily right by our table while we were trying to enjoy our tea. Also, the last time we were there, the air conditioner was not working, and we were literally sweating at our table. Fortunately, it was not raining, and we were able to move to a table outside. When we went again today, it still felt overly warm inside...not as bad as last time, but I suspect that is only because the outside temperature was not as bad. I'm not confident that the air conditioner works, or is turned on in a prompt manner. Additionally, I agree with the reviewer who said that plain scones should always be an option. Oatmeal-raisin is simply not a plain scone. Also, I agree with other reviewers that the portions are quite small considering what you are paying for it (especially the jam and cream). I called the quality of food 'average' because that is what you get when you balance out tasty food with meager servings (without offering traditional scones as an option) and nickel-and-diming regulars for whom you don't have enough fresh food. It's too bad...we really liked this place for a while, but it hasn't been enjoyable recently.

Kathy,
Yes you and your mom have been coming often and I am always happy to see you. Today was unfortunate as you arrived 10 minutes before we close for the day and yes we were shutting things down. I offered to bake you fresh scones as I had them in the freezer and said it would take 11 minutes for them. I thought that was a nice offer since we were closing and since you are a regular I would have been happy to do that for you. I think we had a miscommunication. I did have the difficulty with the AC last time but I'm happy to report that it does work. I didn't know you were charged for the tea and if you visit again I'll adjust for that error.

A Queen would most definately love this tea room... as for a King, well if I may.. In my travels I have been to many tea rooms through out the USA and I must say I was very impressed with the decor. Many times I would stroll into a dainty, frilly, and very ordinary tea room finding myself very uncomfortable with such feminine surroundings, but Harmony Tea room has broke the mold! I feel the surroundings are so serene and tastefully created. The fabrics are top drawer. The place settings are meticously set. I could tell I would be in for a treat!. My server was so attentive she had a nice personality and I really enjoyed listening to their calming music [ so many of the other tea rooms play the ordinary classical..yuk!] I also felt the menu was creative while being whimsical. The food was s... (more)o fresh. And I loved the cookies..yum! ..last word, being male and straight. I was overall impressed the food, decor, and service. What I did noticed right from the get go was most everyone seemed to be having such a good time...In Westwood there are so many quality shops and Harmony Tea Room is among the best of them. ..Can't wait to go back..

This was our second visit to the tea room. Both times, we enjoyed ourselves, but here are some possible improvements: although the soups, salads and sandwiches are delicious, the baked goods are too sweet & too chocolately. The Chai scones are great, but the oatmeal/cherry and oatmeal/ blueberry are not. Both scone offerings should not be oatmeal-based which is what happened yesterday. The portions of curd, cream and jam are ridiculously tiny. Both visits, my teapot was not full. In fact, I finished the tea before my food came which was poor timing. I ended up drinking water with my meal. The owner is sweet & a talented chef/baker. With a few improvements, this place could be great. But for now, Belamari Tea Room in Hawthorne has won my heart.

We were there for Mother's Day and had a wonderful time. This is our second visit. I loved the carrot soup. My daughter and daughter-in-law had the sandwiches which they loved. I absolutely loved my scone.

I was more than thrilled with this beautiful, cheery little nook so close to home. The pots of tea were huge and brewed to perfection. The calm and cute atmosphere so child friendly, the china and food were so amazing, and the staff so sweet and knowledgable. Not only able to give us their opinions, they allowed us to sit and relax and I want to go again tomorrow!!

I visited the tea house yesterday with my Mother. I was dissappointed. The atmosphere is bland. The walls are plain with just a few framed pictures, the tables with plain white linens and was extremely small. The dropped ceiling was water stained and very unappealing to look at. So small that there we 6 two seater tables and 1 table that would seat up to 4. I can't imagine how they would ever have the live music. If you require the restroom, many other customers will have to move in order for you to get to the door. The bathroom was nicely decorated. The guests even get to use a thick washcloth size towel to dry their hands, then place the used towel into a hat box. The tea itself was great tasting. No sugar on our table or even offered. The tea we chose was recommened to be dr... (more)unk with sugar for a better taste, so this I thought was strange. The tea was weak so did not require sugar anyhow. The soup, Tomato with lemon rosemary was fantastic, as was the Harmony salad with a cranberry goat cheese. The sandwiches and deserts were disappointing. If you don't like mayo or cream cheese you will not like any of them. The deserts even come with a chocolate, choc chip cookie, not what I imagined. The most disappointing part of the meal was the scones, which being English, we looked forward to the most. Not a traditional scone by any means! Tasty but not what you would expect in England. First off they were flavored and not plain, strange as they were accompanied by a raspberry jelly, not a jam, and a strange looking lemon curd. It is hard to imagine a cinnammon pecan scone, or an oatmeal raison scone with fruit jelly and Devonshire cream. The cream was the worst. It was a serving meant for two, but would have easily fit on a tiny teaspoon. The jelly and curd was served in a tiny portion as well. The service was not the best either. We were asked to seat ourselves, even though we had a reservation. We were then handed paper menu's with the same informtion on it as their website, harmonytearoom.com. We were not yet told about the soup of the day or salad of the day, and we had to ask what was on the sandwiches etc... We waited several minutes before we were approached and asked if we wanted to know what the soup and salad was. In conclusion I feel the tea house was a boring, sterile environment with good food, but definately not in a traditional teahouse expectation. I would offer this advice to the tearoom: create a more warm, feminine atmosphere, and if you cannot afford a decent size portion of imported cream make you own whipped cream with heavy cream, also you must serve jam preserves not a tiny portion of jelly. For the price we expected a much better traditional experience.

Andi,
Sorry you didn't enjoy your visit and I'd like to address your comments. As for the decor there are a few additions coming and I've been waiting for a new roof but it seems to rain the days I'm closed so the tiles will be changed and I agree they are not pretty. We did have an extra table in th room to accommodate our Mother's Day weekend visitors. We have 2 scones on the menu one oatmeal raisin which is our 'plain' for the day and the flavored. We are always happy to provide more accoutrements to the scones. Funny I wasn't giving the lemon curd which we make ourselves with the cinn. pecan scone and then someone asked for it so we gave it to all. The menu changes often so I do not go into detail in printed form. I like to use tea in cooking so the cookies are a chocolate chai cookie. My servers usually give menus and later tell the soups and salads of the day and when the tier is served they explain what is on them. My tea room isn't a stuffy traditional tea room but it is a reflction of my vision of the atmosphere I'd like to create. If all tea rooms we full of lace and knick knacks wouldn't that be boring? Thanks for your comments.

We had a wonderful time. The asparagus soup was delicious and the scones were moist and tasty. I do not usually eat cucumbers, but the sandwich was delicious. We especially enjoyed the airy decor and kind service. We are telling all our friends about this place, and will be back soon.

My sister and I were there recently and it was only fair-the tea was not brewed properly-it was oversteeped and the scones were dry. The most disappointing feature was our server's barely cordial attitude-you usually get treated better in a tea room.

Alicia, I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience. We time our teas and use temperature controlled kettles. I often wait on tables so I wish I knew when you came in since I think my staff is friendly. I appreciate your comments as the tea room is newly opened and we are striving to do our best.

Harmony Tea Room is just what Bergen County needed. It has a relaxing atmosphere where you can catch up with an old friend and have a delicious meal simultaniously. The fresh scones are to die for! I recently attended a special night at the tea room...it was called 'Claritea' with low tea service and a tarot card reader. My friends and I had a great night with many insights to our futures! I hope Harmony Tea Room is here to stay in Westwood!

I am a daily tea-drinker, and I love this place! I have gone several times, including the other day, and each visit was excellent. Everything that the chef prepares is delicious. Also, all the details in the decor are just right. This is a relaxing place I go to when I have had a hectic day or week. The prices aren't too bad -- the big ticket item is (I think) $21, and that's almost two meals in one. All the other meals are under $20. I can't recommend this place enough! PS - The servers are really nice, too.

This was an amazing experience! Went there this weekend and was so taken away by the tranquil ambiance. Deserts were delicious -- small apple pies were my favorite. The team was decadent. Was in London this past summer and this is about as close as it gets to the little London tea rooms.

I just got home from my first experience at the Harmony Tea room in Westwood. I was completely blown away! I have been to a few teahouses all over the states and this one by far had the best food. Bring your appetite cause you are going to want to sample everything. We did the option were you have soup, salad, scones, finger sandwiches and dessert. The portions are huge. The soup I had was a butternut squash and it was incredible. It had a nice sweet blend to it. For salad I went for the apple pecan with goat cheese to die for. Then came out our tier of treats. We started from the top down. The top tier had cranberry scones. The scones were so light and fluffy. The texture was amazing. They came with a jam, butter or lemon curd. But they were so delectable I hardly used any of the three. E... (more)ach dish that was served became more superior as the meal continued. The next tier consisted of our finger sandwiches. We had a cucumber with I believe dill and cream cheese on white bread, Egg salad on wheat (the egg salad was amazing), Spinach pin wheel, there was a chicken salad dish (but since I am a vegetarian they allowed me to substitute it) My mom loved it though, and there was also an olive past on olive loaf. The last tier consisted of mouth-watering desserts. The mini apple pie like cookie was so scrumptious the crust just melted in your mouth, and the double chocolate chip cookie made me feel like I was in heaven! I didn’t even have room to sample the spice cake but they were so nice to wrap up our leftovers for a little midnight snack tonight. They have a very large tea selection as well. And we each got our own pot, which held about 5 cups of tea, and they even offered to refill them. We went for the Golden Monkey which had a very sweet honey blend to it and the other tea’s name slipped my mind but was a fruity tea with a beautiful pink color it was so refreshing it was like drinking a warmed fruit punch. It really complemented the salad well. I defiantly recommend going to the Harmony Tea Room! The space is limited so I would make reservations. The menu you is diverse I would have never imagined that they have only been there for two weeks. I plan on going as often as I can. You cannot beat the price especially with the quality of the food and service being as superb as they are!
