We hosted a baby shower for an out of town Mom at Hawthorn Tea Room. It was the best experience I've had in working with 2 professional business owner. All of our needs were facilitated with graciousness, good suggestions and excellent follow through. They catered to our every need!! The tables were beautifully set, the 3 teas we selected were smooth, very pleasant and generous....as was the food. I would highly recommend this tea room for your next function. The owners added such a warm charm and easiness to our special event.

This tea room is great! I first went back in October of 2007 and can't stop going now! Everyone is welcomed warmly and is eagerly awaited for their next visit. The food is always of the highest standards and who has a better selection of great tea? The themed high tea is always a great treat to look forward to and the genuine warmth felt at the Hawthorn makes it Tacoma's best choice for tea OR lunch!

I am happy to have had the chance to experience the Love and Friendship Tea at the Hawthorn this month. Every bit of my experience was wonderful from the excellent service to the high tea. The red velvet scone was particularly yummy! The remodeled tea room looks beautiful---light, airy, and relaxing! I can't wait to go back again!

We were here in November 2007 for a colleague's birthday. They kindly put our group of six in a semi-private room. I thought the decor was lovely. Simple perhaps more understated than frou frou. But then I hate all that Victorian fussy stuff. The service was outstanding. My lapsang souchang tea was amazing. As was the rice tea from Japan!

After a terrible trip in Seattle we decided to tea at the Hawthorne on our way back to Oregon. The ' Hawthorne Tea' was wonderful and my husband loved the soup and sandwich! We recomend stopping here and will do so again. Cathy and Laurie were so much fun to chat with!

I took my 3 daughters to this tea place in September and we had a wonderful time. They were very accomodating with our vegetarian requirements. The salads were great and we enjoyed the variety of scones. My eldest daughter was particularly happy with the chocolate ones. I think they were trying them out, we hope they continue. Other than keeping our teapots filled, we are big tea drinkers, I highly recommend making a stop here. This tea shop is a couple blocks from the waterfront and my daughters and I enjoyed walking along this after tea.

Having eaten all over the US in various tea rooms, this was not my favorite, although there were still pluses. The decor was not quite frufru enough for me, but it was still pleasant. The waitress was very friendly and the meal was served in good time. However, I like more unusual sandwiches/quiches/menu items - my ham & swiss was just your basic, nothing special - the soup, a squash as I recall, was served in bowls much too large for the small amount of soup - & the scones: no way was this a true scone. It was more like a round, dried out biscuit & having had true Devonshire cream in England, theirs was nothing like. I don't believe I would visit here again - having been to the lovely tea room in Port Orchard - there they give you much more food for the money than Hawthorne does PLUS a piece of homemade dessert. So again, not my favorite but average to good.

tearoom response
Dear Suzi:
The wonderful thing about tea rooms is they all offer a unique experience. We are sorry to hear your lunch experience did not meet your expectations.
We do not serve clotted cream (Devon cream) but our Devonshire cream is widely requested as well as our scones.
Thank you for giving our tea room a try. We wish you many wonderful future tea experiences.

I very much enjoyed my first visit to the Hawthorne and look forward to my next, So much so that I arrived on this Monday to find them closed. The service was spot on in every respect and the tea (you've got to love the Yorkshire Gold, with milk and sugar mind you) was prepared correctly and well (the decanting of the tea is awesome). I very much enjoyed the owners and their ability to make people feel welcome. I called in the morning I took my boyfriend for lunch and reserved a table which was set aside for us in the window, complete with a little 'reserved' card. Even he enjoyed the food! He noted that it would not be enough for a 'normal' lunch, but I think that it was just right. Make sure you take the time to stop in for tea and lunch! I'll be back again!

I threw a baby shower at the Hawthorn Tea Room in June 2007 and it was an excellent experience! :-)The guests loved the atmoshphere, food, and service. I would definetly recommend this tea room. This would also be a great location for military coffees/teas!!! As a military spouse I would definetly throw a company coffee at this tea room.

What a refreshing way to include a break from a busy day. The tea room is a mix delighful whimsy with professional and exemplary service. Due to the atmosphere and owners I not only regularly go there to reinergize but also for those informal meetings with my staff. The environment is spacious and quiet and lends itself to quiet conversation.

The Hawthorn Tea Room is under new management as of April 2007. It was our first visit there, and not our last! They have a wide selection of teas. After studying the list I chose their signature tea, peach, raspberry, and vanilla. My daughter, Jessica, chose their pear tea.We were very happy with our choices. The secret to excellent tea, I believe, is to decant the tea which was done for us. This is the acid test for me, which shows that a tea room knows what they are doing. We chose the Hawthorn Luncheon Tea that consisted of a freshly baked scone (we chose raspberry and blackberry) with Devonshire cream, jam, and lemon curd. On one level of the three-tiered plate was beautiful fresh fruit, highlighting Washington State's produce. Succulent, every piece was. The sandwiches were abundant;... (more)

Charming locale, beautiful presentation, friendly owners, cheerful staff. Especially enjoyed the wide selection of teas: stalwart favorites, exotic unusuals. A great place to entertain out-of-town guests or celebrate family birthdays. Come alone or bring your friends!

Hawthorn Tearoom's atmosphere is airy and light and spacious. The scones are rich and tasty and the sandwiches elegant and delightful. We had lots of teas to choose from and a pleasing array of savories and treats for afternoon tea. We're going back for lunch soon!
