The atmosphere of The Olde World Tea Company makes you feel like you are surrounded by friends, which you are. The food here is amazing and will blow away any fast food place. Also the variety is outstanding. Over 60 different teas and new items on the menu every week makes it worth going to this place more then just once.

Olde World Tea Company is like going home. When you walk in the door, you are greeted like you are family. The owner makes it a point to talk to all customers and will greet you by name the second time you visit. The soups, salads, and tarts are made fresh daily, and is of a very high quality. They have recently expanded their menu, and now include 'Big Salads.' The desserts are to die for and there are numerous teas to choose from in addition to the two daily special teas. If you're not a tea drinker, the coffee, expressos, and latte's are very good also. Bring cash or your checkbook as they don't accept credit cards. Olde World is definitely worth a trip to Smithfield.

This tea room experience is far from snobbish. A coffee drinker myself, I was hesitant to order tea, thinking I had to have some conversational skills re: types of teas and when to drink what. Not at all! The owner is so friendly, inviting and knowledgeable, she instantly makes you feel like an old friend. She engages you until she figures out what you might like and then ...WOW, the best homemade soups, tarts, scones, cucumber sandwiches, sweet potatoe biscuits and ham, desserts galore ... and a heavenly wall of teas to liven the senses and cure whatever ails you. This is a MUST DO when visiting Smithfield, VA. This shoppe alone, encompasses the Heart, Hospitality and History that is Smithfield.
