Overview

Away from the hustle and bustle, you'll find our quaint Victorian tea room or garden gazebo the place to not only enjoy a fine cup of tea but the opportunity to renew acquaintances and enrich friendships. Make a place in your life for the ritual of sharing.

Afternoon tea with delicate homemade scones and tea breads is served to overnight guests daily at 4 p.m.

High Tea is served daily from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and is available to the general public with at least 24-hour advance reservations. The three-course high tea includes finger sandwiches, fruit, tea breads, scones and dessert. A 'tea favor' is included at each guests' place setting.

A friend and I recently spent an afternoon here. We were celebrating my retirement. The food/tea were delicious and the atmosphere charming. We had a choice of sitting in th parlor or on the veranda. That day we chose the veranda overlooking the gazebbo and garden. Barbara was a wonderful hostess.

I have visited a lot of tea rooms and actually had high expectations of Rose Mountain, however, I really found it lacking. The food was completely average, the selection of tea was very limited (and mostly frou-frou flavored teas - nothing of quality). The room was extremely cramped - she kept squeezing by me with food and drinks, and she was very hurried and seemed really stressed out, even though there were only 8 people in the whole room. I must say that the ambiance was very nice, and there was a nice selection of gifts to buy after your tea. I thought An Afternoon To Remember in Newcastle was far better for the same price.

Tearoom Response
Dear Tammie,
I deeply regret that your experience at Rose Mountain Manor did not meet your expectations. I was surprised that you felt the food was average as the demand for my cookbook has been overwhelming. Our loose leaf tea selections are limited but they are acquired from some of the best sources in the industry. We feature our most popular flavored teas, the traditional Earl Grey and English Breakfast and several herbal teas and generally have a flavor of the month. While I pride myself on quality food and tea selections, it is my philosophy that 'taking tea' is about creating an ambiance similar to going to your favorite Aunt's private estate away from the clamor of civilization where guests experience laughter and love, renewal and reflection, friendships and family. I am truly sorry you felt your seating arrangement was uncomfortable and negated your opportunity to fully relax and enjoy the pleasant ambiance you acknowledged. There was no need for the room to feel crowded as the room generally seats more than the eight you reported. I wish you had said something so we could have remedied that situation on the spot. As far as my being rushed and stressed, I have no ideas what might have been going on the day you were here. Perhaps it was the day I walked into the kitchen only to find the dishwasher spewing soap bubbles all over the floor. That was a stressful day! Despite what may be going on behind the scenes I always try to make each and every guest feel that they have my undivided attention and, when invited, like to sit and chat with them. Rose Mountain Manor was birthed from the heart with its sole purpose of providing rest, relaxation and a wonderful 'tea' experience to all my guests. I would welcome the opportunity to serve you again with the outcome not only meeting but exceeding your expectations.
Sincerely,
Barbara Bowers

We've had tea several times at Rose Mtn Manor and have always found it a delightful experience. The inn is in a quiet, woodsy location and exudes charm and warmth. The luncheon tea is served in several courses, and includes quiche, yummy tea sandwiches, scones and dessert. The broccoli salad is to die for. The lemon curd is the best I've ever had. Everything is beautifully presented. Barbara, the hostess/innkeeper, is a wonderful person. She always makes us feel so welcome.
