Variety: My family and I have enjoyed tea at the Smith-Byrd House on several occasions. An exceptional variety of loose leaf teas are available including herbal, flavored, green, black, rooibos and honeybush, and earl. My favorites (so far) are Honeybush, Snowflake, and Green Almond Cookie. Beth and David know quite a bit about different teas, and they are willing to spend time with guests educating them and helping them make tea selections. The quality of the food along with its presentation also makes for a delightful tea experience. All dishes are freshly prepared. The salads are beautiful, and the quiche is superb! Serving sizes are substantial, too. Be sure to save room for the scones with clotted cream and jam (delicious!). Guests may also tour the home and purchase gifts from t... (more) |

Variety: Two friends and I had lunch and tea at the Smith-Byrd Tea Room last week. All 3 of us lived in the United Kingdom, and spent a lot of time enjoying traditional English teahouses there. We all agreed that this tearoom tops even our favorite spot in Lavenham (home of the famous 'crooked houses'! The selection of teas, not to mention David and Beth's knowledge of the them, was amazing. As much as we enjoyed the lovely teas, we cannot say enough about the food. We splurged and enjoyed the queen's tea which included a generous slice of quiche, a salad with a light dressing, finger sandwiches, scones, and a selection of desserts. All of it absolutely delectable! David and Beth were incredibly warm, friendly and hospitable. A lovely, lovely experience. My friends and I can't wait to come back (soon!) again. |

Variety: Every year for the past 3 years I have taken a close friend to a tearoom to honor her on her birthday, but would not tell her which one or where (a continued tradition started with my mother until she went home to be with the Lord Jesus 3 years ago). This time I told my friend it was going to be an adventure for both of us since this was my first visit also. Both of us were most pleasantly surprised. When we arrived, we were a little apprehensive because the yard was not as neat and tidy like you might expect probably due to concentration on renovating the inside of the house. But when we went inside, we felt like we were experiencing a little of the past. The food was excellent served in the English tradition. We especially liked the cheese quiche. There was a good selection of loo... (more) |

Tearoom Response
Carol, thank you for sharing your experience, We are happy it was such a pleasant one. You were correct in that most of our energy and $$ went toward renovations, which included a few surprises we didn't count on. We have future plans to create secret gardens on the property where one can escape with a cup of tea.

Variety: Very nice people. Lovely old home. Cute gift selection. We enjoyed eating here. It is a long way from Birmingham, but if we were in the neighborhood we would stop again. |
