Overview
The Strathmore Tea Room, paying homage to hundreds of years of High Tea tradition, serves Afternoon Tea on Tuesday and Wednesday (plus additional Monday’s in December) in the beautiful Shapiro Music in The Mansion at Strathmore. As always, the Strathmore Tea Room is staffed with volunteer musicians, servers, and hosts dedicated to preserving the tradition of tea musicales at Strathmore. The sounds of local musicians performing with a wide range of instruments from the piano to the Celtic harp set an elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere. Patrons enjoy sumptuous finger sandwiches, scones and desserts catered by Ridgewells, and Strathmore's own tea specially blended by John Harney of Salisbury, Connecticut. For a schedule of performers please visit www.strathmore.org . For reservations (301) 530-0540.

the strathmore teas have been an island of tranquility in the midst of the tohoubohou of the highly politicized nations capital. i have attended 3-4 with co workers, my poor demented mother, and alone, and the memory of this return to the placid, elegant days of yesteryear is only heightened by the lovely musicales which have provided a backdrop of elevating music. When i feel stressed at work, only a few miles up the pike, i recreate the peace i felt at Strathmore

Tea at Strathmore is a wonderful experience. I have been 4 times and plan to keep going. The setting is a beautiful wood-paneled music room, and the round tables have pink linens and a variety of pretty vintage cups, plates, and teapots -- and tea cozies. The tea is all one variety and servers will bring refills. The food (which is professionally prepared by caterers) is usually a plate of 3 very small tea sandwiches and a mini-omelette, a scone with cream and jam, and a dessert plate of three small items. It doesn't look like a huge abundance but I always end up feeling full! The food is indeed served by volunteers, who do a great job and simply couldn't be nicer -- they always keep an eye out to see who is ready for the next course or needs a fresh pot of tea. On one visit the san... (more)dwiches seemed to have been sitting out too long (a bit stale) but overall I always enjoy going here. It's an excellent value given the superb setting, the live music (pianist Fran Hrastrar is terrific), and the opportunity to take in an art exhibit on-site. Now if only they'd do tea on WEEKENDS sometimes!

The setting is nice and the music is a plus but overall I was disappointed in this tea. I gifted this tea to a good friend and felt it was lacking. It seemed that the tea was served by a group of women voluteers. Which could be nice but they didn't know how to serve and it seemed they could have made the food themselves. It was uninspired and not a special experience.
