Swan House Tea Room

I am so happy to see the Swan House added to TeaMap! This is one of my favorite tea rooms. The tea menu is extensive. Properly brewed loose leaf tea, served in pots is unlimited. The menu changes monthly. The first course is a scone, served with 'made in house' devonshire cream and lemon curd. Strawberry preserves are also available. A three tiered server contains a top tier of three sweets per person, one of which is their specialy, a cream puff swan. The middle tier holds the tea sandwiches and quiche. The bottom tier features a mini muffin and a couple savory items. Everything is homemade and fresh. The quiche is the best I have had!

This is an elegantly furnished tea room in an 1865 Italiante Style home (listed on the National Register of Historic Places). The mai... (more)n dining room has high ceilings, tall windows (a squirrel is usually playing in the yard), soft lighting from crystal chandeliers and small window lamps. Silver vases of fresh flowers adorn each table, along with the monthly menu in a silver holder. Floral tablecloths cover the tables which are set with matching blue and white china. They welcome you to linger, visit, sip tea and relax. This is the perfect tea room to visit alone (tuck a book or magazine in your purse and enjoy a solitary afternoon) or with friends. The back dining room features red brick walls and a french mural. You feel as if you are enjoying your afternoon tea in an outdoor cafe along a quaint little street.

Loose leaf tea is offered for sale in the gift shop. The gift shop fills two rooms with books, jewelry, tea things and other lovely gift items.

The Swan House is included in Bruce Richardson's 'The Great Tea Rooms of America'. Bev Robb has taken over ownership since the book was published, and continues the excellent tradition.
