Overview

Tea, Lace & Roses is located in a century old townhouse, in historic downtown Culpeper.

Visit us at our web site www.tealaceandroses.com where you may view our menu, make luncheon reservations, and/or order from our 50+ fine loose teas. When you dine with us, you will be seated in one of our three dining rooms -- The Rose Room, The Lilac Room or the Garden Room. Enjoy a fresh homemade scone accompanied by our version of clotted cream, an assortment of finger foods, including sandwiches, savories and desserts. Visit our dress-up room while we prepare your food and choose a hat and jewelry to wear during your tea experience.

As you may know, our building has been for sale for sometime. However, the building only is for sale -- Tea, Lace and Roses will continue under our multi-year lease whether or not the building is sold.

Be sure to reserve Tea, Lace & Roses for your special event: bridal shower, baby shower, office party, church group, family reunion or just a fun day with the girls. In order to accommodate large groups, we will be happy to open a Sunday, Monday or evenings.

Allow time to explore our gift shop with a wide variety of tea accessories, Rowena's Curds and Scones mixes.

My mom was visiting from out of state so we decided to try Tea, Lace & Roses. Everyone was so friendly and the food was great. The decor was so welcoming and fit well with the theme. We even bought home some loose tea. And when they ran out of the flavor I wanted to buy they took down my information so that they can call me and ship the tea to me when it is available again. Going to this tea house will now be a new tradition for whenever my mom comes for a visit. I wish we had the time to go back before she leaves.

Very nice afternoon for my friend of 40 years and I. It was her 50th birthday and I was at a loss of what to do to commemorate her special day when I thought of TLR. While neither of us are tea drinkers, I LOVED the spiced pear tea and she tried the chocoate tea. The food was fine, but the best part was that it is such a departure from the usual fare and atmosphere. Thank you and we will be back!

3 of my friends and I had the full English tea this past Tuesday. The tea started off with a scone which puzzled us so we asked why it was served first. We were told it was their tradition which was fine with us. The food was excellent as was the tea. I personally don't like flavored teas with food which is why I don't frequent the local tearoom in my city. All of us at tea that day are great tea aficionados and we were all quite pleased with our full English tea. It had been quite some time since our last visit. Hopefully we will be returning soon.

This is a delightful tearoom, offering traditional tea, Victorian dress-up AND, for those of us on a diet, a 'salad' tea that was superb! I totally enjoyed my experience there.

The dress up room and the tea and scones are WONDERFUl. However, the tea for two food was AWFUL. The chicken salad had wonderful flavoring, but the chicken itself tasted like it came from a can. The raw mushroom with spinach dip was bitter. The quiche cup was cold. The cucumber topping tasted like it was capers mixed with a sweet pepper of sorts. I was SO disappointed. The dessert (and only one) was dry pumpkin bread that tasted like it was at least a day old. If you decide to visit. GET the tea and a scone. Skip out on the tea for two or anything more. Have fun dressing up and take lots of pictures.

Tearoom Response
It was unfortunate that the tea for two items were not to your liking. We appreciate your other kind comments.

What a wonderful place to spend time, enjoying finer things of life. I invite everyone to enjoy an afternoon and be pampered. I took my sister for birthday and then invited a visitor to my home from WV to lunch. Her first trip to a Tea room, we enjoyed variety of 3 teas, wonderful scones and other delightful food. But most of all is the way you personally feel, Pat prepares wonderful food & Monica gives great service. It is a great escape from the ordinary and gives much needed mental relaxation. God Bless you for all you put into making a place for me & my friends to experience. Love Nathena Darlene

'Tea, Lace & Roses' is defiantely 'MY HAPPY SPOT!!!' I have been going to this quaint and beautiful Victorian tearoom for many years and EVERY visit is unique and very special. The variety of tea choices is amazing - our favorites are coconut/almond, raspberry rooibos and spicey revelry. The food is FUN and delicious and served so elegantly. The servers make each person feel so special and cared for. My experience has ALWAYS been top-notch - GIRLS, you've just got to go there!!!

The location, charming atmoshpere, tea and scones were good. Unfortunately, the service and awful food overshadowed. The food combinations were strange, not well prepared & not fresh. I would go for tea with just scones and not for a special event.

Tearoom Response
Laura,
Your description of your visit is certainly an exception to our consistently positive and complimentary comments and reviews. This is unfortunate.

I took my 7 year old daughter out for a special treat. We both loved it! We tried each of the three 'community teas' cream earl grey, fiji green, and coconut almond roobios. We both enjoyed them a great deal as well as the lavender scones with lime curd YUM! My daughter couldn't decide witch she liked more dress up or the tea itself. Had a delightful time and the service was excellent.

My friend Pam surprised me with an Afternoon Tea to celebrate my birthday. It was perfect! Wonderful selection of teas--I chose the Spiced Pear. Delicious scones, sandwiches and tasty desserts. Best of all, service was efficient but unobtrusive, and we sat and talked for a very long time. A lovely afternoon.

I am new to the area (only 5 months) and this was my second visit here. I have been to many tea places in many states and this is one of the best. The owner and staff are extremely helpful and kind. They go out of their way to make you feel like you are the only guests they have to serve. They even played a CD of piano music that I saw in the gift shop by my request. It is more like going to a close friend's home or the home of a family member. Try their 'Tea for Two' with a friend. You will enjoy it.

As Brits, we are always on the look-out for 'Afternoon Tea'. We found this whimsical little gem unexpectedly and had such a good experience, we went out of our way to visit again on our return home. We enjoy plain, strong tea to drink but they have an incredible selection of teas and a variety of afternoon tea fingerfood - all home-made and delicious!
We will certainly return when we pass through that area of Virginia.

My husband and I so enjoyed our full service tea on Saturday. We were treated as honored guests. The individual teapots were unique and lovely. The lemon curd was so delicious! The sweet treats called 'orange coolers' were special. The fillings for the tea sandwiches were of high quality. My one suggestion would be to fill the filo dough cups and the croissants at the last minute so they do not lose their texture. Also, it was a very good value for the price. We look forward to coming back! Thank you!

My mother, sister and I love having tea together and have been lucky enough to have tea in many places. Without a doubt, TL&R is the best tea we've ever tried (including the Ritz in London!). It is our special place to eat when I'm visiting Culpeper, and we have brought my 3 year old many times for the 'Wee Tea.' It is truly a treasure.

My now grown daughter and I have shared tea together for decades as our special bonding time. Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of taking my daughter-in-law and two granddaughters with us when we visited here for the first of what will be many times. There aren't enough superlatives to adequately praise Paula for her hospitality and patience, nor accolades lofty enough for the quality of teas and scones. We've savored hundreds of tearooms over the years, and Lace, Tea, and Roses earns five-star status (and Paula gets a halo) for the memorable afternoon spent in Culpeper. Thank you for enriching our lives and being a part of a treasured memory, Paula.
