My husband and I had a lovely Sunday afternoon at Tea-Upon-Chatsworth. We were visiting San Diego and, when we asked the consierge about the different listings on TeaMap.com for a traditional English Tea he said, 'Tea-Upon-Chatsworth is number one for traditonal English.' He told us it is under new management and the new owner has changed the decor, food and service to be more of what you would expect in the 'Old Country'. And he was so right! The moment we walked through the door, my husband and I felt like we back home in England (except the weather outside was better). Warm and inviting with lovely antiques. Staff was friendly and knowledgable about their tea. Food was superb. We will be back and we will tell all of our friends that this cozy tea room is a jewel!

Just spent a delightful afternoon at Tea Upon Chatsworth. I had the 3-course Afternoon Tea and I tried 3 varietals of tea from their premium tea list. Food was fabulous - fresh and delicious - and the tea was brewed to perfection. Service was excellent. Everything was so good that I booked their Valentine's Day Tea and Mother's Day Tea before leaving the tea room.

Tea-Upon-Chatsworth is my favorite place for tea in San Diego. Authentic English Country decor, beautiful music, and friendly staff. Just like the tea rooms in Britian but with better food and tea selection!! A San Diego Treasure I recommend to everyone

Enjoyed a birthday tea with friends and it was fabulous! The room was beautiful, warm and inviting. Service was friendly and knowledgable. Tea selection was outstanding and the ambiance terrific. Unlike the previous reviewer, I could smell the delicious fresh-baked scones and bread pudding the minute we walked through the door. Loved the entire experience. We will definitely be back.

This is under new ownership and I knew it the minute I walked in the door. There used to be wonderful smells...not anymore...just bland food, bland table, just the basics. Would not go back.

This was the 3 Tea Pals third time here and it was just as exceptional as before. The sandwiches were great, especially the warm savories. The teas were delicious, hard to decide which ones to try but we did favor Paris and the apricot tea. Thanks again for the great afternoon tea.

We had a group of 42 people the weekend after Mother's Day and all the ladies are still talking about the wonderful event at Tea-Upon-Chatsworth! Jenny did a fabulous job with the food, the servers were very pleasant and professional, and Joy did a 'Tea Talk' presentation that had the room so excited about the tea experience they were about to have!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for making our event such a huge success! It looks like it's the beginning of a tradition, so we may see you again soon!!!!

I took my mother who had recently turned 90 to her first tea ever the day before Mother's Day. Her eldest granddaughter accompanied us as well. We dressed in hats and boas from the Powder room and it was fun, fun, fun. The atmosphere was authentic, and the food and tea was exemplary! Joy is amazing and she came out and talked with us and was so happy to celebrate at our table by being in our pictures and enjoying conversation. I would definitely recommend Tea Upon Chatsworth as it is a highly personalized experience fit for a Queen.

I went to a tea with a very large group. I go to a lot of teas, and Tea Upon Chatsworth stands out for me with their food quality and variety of tiny baked bites. The quantity of items presented were enough to have me taking a little home. Everything was fresh and delicious.

I've had the pleasure of having three separate visits to the beautiful Tea Upon Chatsworth. My first time there was an afternoon tea with my Mom who was visiting from Chicago. She was enchanted with the place and we had a great time. The second, a bridal shower for my best friend couldn't have been more lovely. We had a small party of about 12 ladies and Joy worked with me to make sure everything went off flawlessly. We even had a separate table for presents & cakes.

The teas are always hot & ready (my favorite is the Paris) and the menu changes every month and is always delicious. The tea room is decorated with beautiful tea cups and saucers, fresh flowers and other assorted tea related items. Place settings & tea pots are mismatched for a quaint touch and the linens are... The food is tasty, beautifully presented and the decor of the tea room is wonderfully quaint and not stuffy. I would defintely come to this tearoom again when I visit San Diego!! The servers were cordial and friendly. The owner, Joy, was very helpful with the tea menu and gracious about telling us her passion of how she started Tea Upon Chatsworth. Tea Upon Chatsworth is one of my favorite tearooms in San Diego County. Joy and her staff are attentive and efficient, the food is innovative and delicious, and the choice of teas is all one could ask for. I love the interior decor, which is cozy, but not fussy. The atmosphere is calm and the table service is laid beautifully. I highly recommend this tearoom.

Our San Diego Costume Guild, along w/ some members of the Los Angeles Guild, met for an 18th Century costumed tea at Chatsworth recently. I've always recommended this tearoom, and we weren't disappointed. The food is varied & top notch, and we're always given a new and interesting tea to try, even though we can pick again from a wonderful list of others.
Of all the hundreds of customers Joy serves, I'm sure glitches happen. But it doesn't deter me, or my group, from returning often. In fact, I'm going again this week.

We came for a retirement party and we had the time of our lives. The food was delicious and although all of us had more than we could eat, no one felt like the food was heavy or that they had eaten too much. It was a great place to have a party ... or even just a place to go for a cup of tea! Service was great, teas were delicious, and we all look forward to going back for more.

I'd like to share my Tea Upon Chatsworth Teahouse experience with other tea lovers and get right down to the facts.
Tea is NOT HOT when served and the brew is very, very weak.
Water is not served, unless requested.
Food presentation is lovely, but, portions are skimpy.
Scone is fresh and delicious, but, tiny...smaller than one of the tiny scones from Starbucks.
The cream and jam portion is miniscule.
Food presentation is lovely...if only there was a little more of it presented.
Staff is friendly, not overly attentive.
Overall, you make your own tea party, which we did... but, for $27.95 plus tax and gratuity, the tea should be HOT and brewed properly, not luke warm and watered-down.
As a suggestion:
French press coffee would be a nice touch for those folks that want the whimsical ambiance and luxury of a teahouse, but do not share the strong affection for tea.

Dear Tea Lover,
Tea-Upon-Chatsworth is a unique one-of-a-kind establishment. We only offer tea because that is the reason we exist. Thank you for noticing our incredible food presentation and, in the future, if your tea cools down please do not hesitate to ask for a warm up or refill.
Thank you,

My dear friend introduced me to this tea room when I was in town visiting her family. Of course, as many of the other reviews suggest, the food was absolutely delicious and the presentation was beautiful. However, what made this experience really stand out was the personal touch of the owner, Joy. She came out and greeted us personally and walked us through the various offerings. As a person who is new to the high tea experience, this small gesture really made my day. Thank you, Joy!

I will definitely visit again on my next trip back to California. An extraordinary experience, the perfect way to spend an afternoon with loved ones!

I've been to a lot of very upscale tea rooms in several states, and Tea Upon Chatsworth is one of the best EXCEPT for their appalling lack of service. I personally confirmed reservations weeks ago, yet while I was on vacation I got a telephone message from the owner telling me that one of her employees had made a mistake and that my time 'wasn't available,' in effect giving me and my mom, who was driving from 100 miles away, just one day's notice that our tea was cancelled. Firstly, I was dismayed that the owner laid blame on one of her employees. She, as the owner, is ultimately responsible for anything that happens, and trying to make it sound like it was simply an employee slip-up is extremely unprofessional. Secondly, the owner actually told me in her message that she had booked the en... (more)

Dear Heather & Kim,
I sincerely apologize for the mix-up. Hard as we try to avoid mistakes, while I was away, your reservation was inadvertently taken for a time slot that had been previously booked for a private party since January. Understandably, you are upset but I hope you will find it in your heart in the future to give us another chance to make it right for you and your mom. I appreciate the nice comments you said about Tea-Upon-Chatsworth.

I am very upset with the way my daughter and I were treated by Tea Upon Chatsworth. My daughter made reservations two weeks prior to our tea which you would think is ample time. But unfortunately mamagement to make more money opted to bump us for a large party. I live two hours away and this was to be our Mother's Day treat. My husband also felt bad for us and was mad. I have visited several times with my daughter and had found it to be a enjoyable experience and lovely food. While the food is certainly important the service is what makes the experience and sadly Tea Upon Chatsworth lacks. I just hope that the party that ruined our day has a wonderful time on our behalf.

Also the last time we were there they had changed te menu which is fine but I feel it is too trendy and not in keeping with traditional teas. You would be better served to change to a bistro type of restaurant.

I just reviewed my receipt and yes, you are correct, the china is included. However, you make no apologies for charging a 9 month old baby a full Afternoon Tea and THAT is what I am angry about. I should have been charged gratuity on my Groupon (that is why I offered 20%), the china and tax. This is obviously how you avoided honoring the Groupon I used. Nowhere in the fine print did it state I had to pay for one full priced tea to get a discounted tea. I am not the only Groupon customer who was unhappy. You should read those reviews. How you run your business did not affect the enjoyment I had with my daughter. I just simply know better than to come here in the future or recommend you to friends

I was very angry that after calling for reservations and making it very clear that I wanted Afternoon Tea for only myself and my 9 month old baby, I was forced to pay not only for my tea, but they charged me a full tea for my baby. Really? Come on. I had a coupon for a discounted tea for myself, was willing to pay the 18% gratuity on the non-discounted price and tax, only to find they charged me for my baby as well? This was very poor business practice, very unethical and I can honestly say that after forking out $70.33 for me and my baby today (not including the $30 cup and saucer we bought), I will never return or give this room a good review. I could have done better at the Ritz. I am not new to tea rooms and have never experienced anything like it. Shame on this tea room for charging a 9 month old baby for a full afternoon tea when she sat there and ate her own baby food.

- Phylicia Mann 04/29/10

Hi Phylicia. Your anger is quite shocking & unfortunate as I was under the impression you & your baby had a grand time celebrating her first tea with us yesterday. She looked so adorable propped on her own chair in her tea dress & bonnet! Pls. check your receipt again as $70.33 did include tea, beautiful china set which cost $30, taxes, & gratuity which you wanted to increase to 20% but I stayed with 18%. Best of luck in your cake venture!

My husband and I visit tea rooms wherever we are and since we live not to far from San Diego we gave this a try. They were kind enough to make a last minute reservation.

While the food is excellent it's not generous. We've never been to a tea room that only offered two half sandwiches and the scones were smaller than the mini-vanilla scones at Starbucks. You only get one - they were, however, one of the best I've ever had.

No choice of tea - you get their tea of the day and another different one towards the end of the meal. That's a nice touch and it was good but I think some folks may like a choice.

Presentation was nice but some pieces were chipped - in my book this is a big no-no. It was, however, bone china and not 'made in China' stuff - another big no-no i... (more)

Although we were at Tea Upon Chatsworth six months ago (to celebrate the 21st anniversary of our first date), our memories of that experience have remained fresh in our minds. The Special Holiday Tea was delightful and delicious (especially the pumpkin soup and the fig and brie croissant). The service was stellar and unhurried, the atmosphere, relaxing and the decor was charming - I especially liked the wreaths with tea cups and saucers. As self-described 'tea people' who traveled with Joy on a tea trip to China this past autumn, I know our presence at the tea room made Joy a little nervous. No need to worry!! It was a fantastic experience, as we knew it would be. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt extremely well taken care of. My husband and I wanted to experience high tea for the first time and decided to let Tea Upon Chatsworth be our guide... From the moment we walked in we were immersed into this delightful experience. From the decorations to the way the food is presented you can see they have paid attention to every single detail.
The food was amazing, the best scones we have tried by far. The sandwiches were so fresh and tasty. Our favorite item (besides the scones) was the Apple Caesar tart.
We tried a couple of teas with my favorite being the Apricot tea while my husband loved the Paris the most.

A friend & I visited during Labor Day weekend. In my opinion, Tea-upon-Chatsworth is the EPITOME of what a tea room should be like! Friendly & attentive without being obtrusive. Creative/unique tea menu offerings + the traditional standards. Able to accommodate guests of any age. I especially enjoyed being able to try 3 different teas during my visit (their 'tea of the day' to start, a pot with the High Tea menu + a petite pot of dessert tea before leaving)! They served thee most delightful assortment of fruits presented like a bouquet of summer flowers with a lovely liquid pairing. The stuffed yellow pepper with wild rice was baked to perfection. And the salad, the salad was so tasty and creative that I'm still thinking about it. As for tea, their Black Tea with Jasmine is a must try. This weekend I was at Tea Upon Chatsworth for the 4th time. It was a much anticipated baby shower. The experience was disappointing. Despite specifying that the menu was to be vegetarian we were served chicken sandwiches. In making the reservation it was very clearly spelled out (3 telephone calls) that no meat, poultry or fish were to be served. Out of 16 guests 7 were vegetarian and having been told beforehand the menu would be vegetarian - didn't hesitate to eat the sandwiches. It was very distressing to have such a gross misunderstanding with Joy. We paid for high tea. It wasn't worth the extra cost. For $30 for 17 people they should have been able to substitute a different sandwich. I think it was just laziness on their part. I was very disappointed - it is not someplace I will take a party again.

Yes, of course, how could I forget making a Toasted Gorgonzola with Candied Cherries & Walnuts plus also a Green Tea & Rice Croustade in addition to the Stuffed Pepper as your vegetarian substitutes? My best guess is that we inadvertently plated the Bay Leaf & Soy Sauce Chicken which essentially was an extra sandwich for your party. Not an excuse. I truly apologize but wanted you to know we did go the extra mile in accommodating your special request.
Sincerely,
Joy

Nothing makes a teacher more proud than a star student! I recently had the opportunity to speak at this tearoom and visit with Joy, a graduate of my TEA 101 seminar. Her tea foods are some of the best I've encountered. Her comprehensive tea list has something for every tea taste and her tea preparation was spot on. Joy has spent several years broadening her knowledge as a student of tea. Her hard work is evident. Tea-upon-Chatsworth, with its efficient staff and delicious menu, is a haven of tea bliss in the city of San Diego!

I just came back from an Opera Tea at the Tea Upon Chatsworth. Just when I thought that Joy couldn't improve on anything...she proved me wrong. Everything was wonderful! And Anna Suzette who sang was like listening to an angel. Between the music and the food I felt like I was in heaven.
What a wonderful evening. I can't wait until their next event.

This was my first tea house experience. Wonderful! My friends and I were just thrilled to try it out and were not disappointed. We get together once a month to shop and lunch and I decided to try Tea Upon Chatsworth as a change. Glad we did! We had a lovely time, the food was excellent and the employees were terrific. The caramel tea was outstanding. The atmosphere was lovely--all of the china and silver and tablecloths were charming. Beautiful room. The quiche and sandwiches were tasty, too. And those scones...best I've ever had. The rose petal jam was to die for. I highly recommend this establishment to all. We will be going back very soon (and regularly!).

I loved the mushroom tartlets, the petite sandwiches, and the scones! They were freshly baked and went well with their clotted cream and rose petal jam. The food presentation was lovely as well. The atmosphere is charming. The staff was very helpful and attentive. Definitely a place to go to when I'm in California!

Currently living in Virginia, my daughters, ages 18 and 16, and I recently returned to San Diego for a visit. One of the first things we thought to do would be to go to 'Tea Upon Chatsworth'. During the 2 years we lived in San Diego we tried to go every month or so. I called Thursday morning and Joy was very happy to hear we would like to come to tea. I also arranged for my daughters to bring two friends along. We were so warmly greeted by Joy and Carol, who had served us often. When I explained that one of the girls was not coming after all, the extra place setting was removed and we chatted while giving our order for tea. I am rather a purist so I prefer unflavored tea and my favorite is the House Blend. My girls love the variety of flavored teas. Our tea was served properly steeped... (more)

The Perfect Palace to have a Royal Tea Party!

Tea-Upon-Chatsworth made my 50th birthday perfect for myself and 40 lady guests. This event will be remembered by all who attended the rest of our lives.
Joy the owner was accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable to make sure my day was everything I dreamed of for my tea party.
I started planning this event months before and searched in the San Diego area for the perfect tea house. I feel I found it in Tea-Upon-Chatsworth. Joy the owner (the owner is what really makes a tea house) was open to my ideas I wanted for my special day and even helped add to it with her ideas. Since discovering Tea-Upon-Chatsworth, the ladies in our family had our 3rd annual Mother's Day celebration this year at this charming little tea-shop. Every year, the food is outstanding and the presentation gorgeous! This year, our favorite was the risotto-filled mushroom, and the stunning Queen's Cake with marizipan & custard cream topped with a fresh fragrant rose from Joy's garden was a beautiful gift to all! The green & white tea with mango is so fine! We've stopped going elsewhere! TUC, as we lovingly call it, is the most unique, the most generous, the most gracious, and the most charming of them all!

I was disappointed the 2nd time I visited this tea house. The scones did not taste fresh, and the apricot cake with chocolate topping was dry. The teas were flavorful, but for the money they charge and the small amount of food given, it's not worth the price.

In our 3 1/2 years of existence, we strived to create a family atmosphere for all our guests. My dears, please let us know during your visit if there is a problem so we can help you right then and there. Our goal is to always give you the best tea experience possible. The smell of your scone baking is what greets you at our door...with our Chatsworth cream and home-made rose petal jam it's among the many things that brings our patrons back time after time, for which we are very thankful!

If you are looking for aurthentic afternoon tea then this is not, it has been adapted to suit Americans. I have been to Tea Upon Chatsworth 3 or 4 times now and have thoroughly enjoyed every visit. It is tied for #1 for my favorite tea room in San Diego (and I have tried nearly every one in the area). While the service does tend to be slow, afternoon tea is not an 'eat and run' experience. One should enjoy the leisurely time given to sip their tea and have conversation with their table companions. Additionally, I love the variety of food served. Joy changes her menu on a regular basis so you can be sure to try something new each time you come in. On my last visit to TUC, I brought a friend for her first tea experience and her young daughter (who is VERY picky). Joy could not accomdate the food requests, so she (Joy) allowed me to make some sandwiches for my friends daughter. Most restaurants won't allow you to do this and we certainly appreciated their desire to assist us. Additionally, the scones at TUC are among the best I've had. I went last Saturday with a friend and we had such a good time! Every piece of food was good! And the tea of course was great! We had peach oolong and caramel black tea. They were so good and don't leave a bitter taste afterwards. Service was awesome and I am going back next weekend! =)

We brought our 4 year old, grandma, daddy, and mommy(me) and all had a wonderful time. The place is very charming, the service excellent, and the food quite delicious and unique. My only quibble is that I wished they served REAL Devonshire (i.e. Clottd) cream, not mock. Also, the portion of the mock Devonshire and preserves they serve is tiny, not really enough for even one scone! Since the service is so good, I'd hope they give more if one asked. I would return to this place again.

I love Tea Upon Chatsworth. The decor is quaint. I love looking at the different tea cups for each table. I also like that the decor isn't too fussy and frilly. The food is excellent. Originally, I thought the portions were too small (I come from the land of 'Supersizeme') but when you think about it, you're not supposed to gorge yourself during tea. Therefore, the size of the portions are dainty and appropriate. The recipes that they have are very original and exceptionally tasty. They have a good variety of teas that would please any tea connoisseur. The staff is willing to please and very, very friendly. I don't understand why others didn't find it so. All in all, it's a wonderful way to spend a lazy afternoon.

I wish I could say I had a better experience at Tea upon Chatsworth. Overall the experience was dreadful. Most importantly, when you make a reservation PLEASE be aware you are making a non-refundable reservation. This was something I was never told. I made a reservation for four and a member of our party became ill and was unable to attend. When we were seated the server noted our party was one short. They told me that we could split the missing person’s food or we could take it with us but it had already been prepared for us and we would be charged for four people. Not a particularly nice way to begin a tea but we made the best of it. Now having been told that our food had been prepared especially for us we were quiet surprised that it took over 45 minutes for anything to be brought to ... (more)

This is a great little place--very charming with lots of authentic tea ware from England. The presentation is amazing. Two things I could see improvement on is 1)either provide more quantity of sandwiches for the price $$$ or offer additional to the guest after first course and 2) the day we were there the service was not exceptional--friendly but very very very slow and not real attentive.

Tea Upon Chatsworth has become one of my favorite afternoon escapes from my busy schedule. I didn't know what to expect on my frst visit, but was immediately made to feel welcome and pampered with the excellent service, and the warm and cozy atmosphere. The tea selection is quite varied, and I was happy to be able to try several different seletions to share with my party. Our server offered descriptions of the teas and had good suggestions to match the various courses. I appreciate that the loose tea is not left in the pot to turn bitter, each cup is as good as the first. And the food is absolutely exceptional, a terrific assortment of savories beautifully presented, followed by both unusual and traditional sweets. Tea Upon Chatsworth is a place to come and sit with friends and linger over delicious food in an elegant setting, with wonderful service. I'm hooked. Keep up the excellent work Joy!

I visited Tea Upon Chatsworth while in San Diego for Comic Con. I'm just getting into going to Tea Houses and still have a lot of questions. Our server answered my 'stupid' questions and gave me some information on naturally decaffienating tea. She was gracious and quick (though she was the only one there).

The owner came by, asked how we liked it and wanted to know what our favorite parts of the high tea were. I felt like I was WAY underdressed for a tea house, but she was just as courteous and gracious and never blinked an eye.

The gazpacho ROCKED. The food was good and it was nice to sit back and relax and havea nice slow tea.

My only complaint were the deserts. I don't care for 'creamy' cakes and deserts, so all I got was once small cookie, but how is she to know that?

I'll be back when I'm in San Diego again!

Six of us visited Tea upon Chatsworth as a break from Comicon on July 22 and had a delightful time. The food was wonderful. Everyone fell in love with the guava-rose petal gazpacho and the tea called Paris which was brought to our table to start. We spent a luxurious two hours, during which time the owner came out to check on our satisfaction. I've seen reviews of other places which complain that they weren't permitted more than 2 cups of tea without additional payment and were justifiably outraged. At Tea upon Chatsworth, we were told that we could have up to 12 different pots of tea for the six of us! We didn't do that, but we did get refills of Paris and members of our party tried three other flavors while we were there. This is definitely a place to which we will return when in San Diego.

July 2006 - My daughter and I are long time High-Tea aficionados. We have been to the ultra formal, as well as the relaxed, homey typical British type of tea rooms. By far, with no hesitation, I can say that Joy (the owner) has created the best experience ever in Afternoon Tea all that means.
First, the food. The presentation is traditional, yet she kicks it up a notch by adding personal touches like real (not silk or plastic) flower petals and vines from her own garden. The artistry of the food is lovely and each morsel brings an exciting new taste that surpasses what you first expect, delivering a far more substantial amount of food than initially meets the eye.
The Scones. OMG the Scones! Joy's son Michael gets full credit for the amazing scones. Some people will complain... (more)

I've been to a few of the other tea establishments here in San Diego and they don't measure up to the authentic experience and ambience that Joy conveys in her quaint tea shop. For example, I was recently at a tea shop in La Mesa with a couple of friends. Although the tea sandwiches, sconces and pastries had great flavors they were on the heavy side, not the delicate, light flavors associated with finger foods for an afternoon or high tea. Another notable observation we had was when one of my friends had asked for a little honey, we were mortified to see our server bring her honey packaged in 'KFC' packets! I just ate here with my girlfriend this Monday and had a wonderful time. We had High Tea which includes a good amount of portioned out sandwhiches, scones and dessert(s). One sandwich we ate had fresh edible flowers in it which was surprisingly tasty. You receive two scones which were very small and not warm. They are served with the sandwiches and desserts so you don't have a chance to enjoy them first (or last). However, it seems to work out though because you do end up getting fairly full by the time you reach for the scone. But for those of us who are used to big, warm scones served before or after the sandy's should be aware how they come to the table. Otherwise, the atmosphere was busy. Elegant yet casual, perfect room temperature, music is just right, and the smell of fresh-baked scones is incredible. Good tea selection and tea is prepared well. I feel bad that other reviews recently have been poor! I brought my mother for high tea (we have gone to other teas, and let me tell you, the price was great in comparison!). We were greeted warmly; the servers were very polite and the mango soup was delicious! No, there isn't a huge amount of food, but there isn't supposed to be! It should be about atmosphere and tea (which was wonderful) and we left full anyway. We were asked if any of us were vegetarians before the tier was brought out. The hot food was hot(something that has been lacking at other tea places lately) and very fresh. The owner does not just 'throw together a sandwhich and cut it into fours'. On our second visit, we had finished our sandwiches and were told that we can have more if we would like since it was the last sitting, but when we asked for more, the server said that we could not have them anymore because a couple of her 'regulars' just walked in unexpectedly and were given the other sandwiches. I have been to Tea Upon Chatsworth twice now; once with my 15 year old daughter and once with she and my 13 year old daughter. The first was the Autumn Tea and the second was the holiday Tea. Both were excellent. We were greeted by the owner, Joy and our server, Carol. The service was warm, friendly and attentive, though not cloyingly so. The atmosphere is homey and I love being able to serve my own tea without interuption. The ample, individual pots of tea were more than enough for our visit, though more was offered. As a Canadian, I grew up as a tea drinker so can truly attest to the wonderful quality and variety of teas that are served. The food was delightful, (including the parsnip soup and I really dislike parsnips) and the quantity was enough that we certainly did not need another large meal that day. The rose petal jelly and clotted cream is so different and flavorful, the scones are nice and basic and the desserts are pertty good. The service is A+, the room is beautiful and located next to a sweet group of antique and vintage gift shops. This is a wonderful place to truly enjoy the afternoon with the ladies. The owner Joy, is very kind and the girls that work for her are divine. I would give this room an A. It is going on my list of rooms to visit every year. This tea house is truly one of the best! They keep the hot, good quality, tea coming with promptness and a smile, the food is really tasty, the service is wonderful and the room is beautiful! This tea house is now on my list of the best of the best! Bravo Joy! Lady Lisa

I have now been to this tea room twice and thoroughly enjoyed both times. Joy is a gem and such a hard worker. When you walk in through the door, you can smell a fantasticly romantic aroma that can only come from tea. Joy's baked goods mingle in the air vying for your senses' attention. The place is small, but very cute and neat. The decor is tastefully done. Her clotted cream and rose petal jam is to die for! I can't forget her lushes scones -- hot and fresh from the oven. I highly recommend this tea room to anyone!

This tea house is pure delight! Our senses were ignited as soon as we entered the door….Ready? The aroma of baked goods was heavenly. The tasteful décor was every bit charming, with careful detail visible on every corner. Classical music allowed for a nice chat with my girlfriend. The servers were friendly and gave us the right amount of attention. : ) Most of all, the food was oh…….JOY! Yummy sandwiches, savory treats and homemade desserts with blueberry tea bursting with flavor…La vie en rose at Tea Upon Chatsworth.

What a fabulous tea experience! Joy's love and knowledge of a traditional high tea manifests itself in every detail of both the room and the food. Every morsel is homemade - even down to the rose petal jam, which was delicious! We were able to sample many different teas, and will try more next time. Our experience was personalized, so we really felt at home. Compared to other tea rooms, Tea Upon Chatsworth is tops!

My friend and I had an absolutely delightful afternoon at Tea Upon Chatsworth. The tea room is beautiful and cozy, all at the same time. We felt comfortable and very much at home, as the atmosphere is very welcoming. Joy, the owner, bakes all of the items herself, and everything we ate was to die for. Everything we ate seemed to become our new favorite. The tea sandwiches were amazing, with my extra special favorites being the tomato and swiss cheese tart and the stilton, walnut, and pear sandwich. Joy's scones are the best we have had, and her rose petal jam is unbelievable, and like no other. The shortbread was also another favorite...just perfect. Joy and our server Julie were so pleasant and helpful. We tried 5 different teas, and they were all delicious. The tea selection is v... (more)

After discovering Tea Upon Chatsworth on this website, my girlfriends and I met here on a recent visit to San Diego. We were blown away by how wonderful this tea house is! The staff was so friendly and accomodating for us. The tea and food were divine! Especially the savory herb scone! If time permitted, we were going to go again the next day! I am so glad that we found this wonderful place and am already planning my next trip to San Diego to visit Tea Upon Chatsworth again!

Having visited this tea room twice with my granddaughter Stacy (see previous review), I knew my Red Hats would enjoy it immensely. So, we drove down to San Diego (from Seal Beach - a two-hour drive) on Memorial Day weekend.

Every one of my friends were totally impressed and want to make the drive again. They agree with me that this is one of the best teas we have ever experienced. Joy goes out of her way to come up with unique menus that please and delight the most experienced tea-goers.

After having paid $45.00 (plus $150 for a room) at the well known Empress Hotel in Victoria, Canada, I must say that I think Joy's tea has it beat. (I would even go so far as to recommend that should you find yourself in the Victoria area, that you pass the Empress and enjoy the less... (more)

This must be the best kept secret in California! The attendants are friendly, helpful, and are second only to the wonderful menu items. The apricot tea is an absolute keeper and the blueberry-laced ice water is a treat. The ambience of the room is accentuated by an antique shop just adjacent and is perfect to make your visit a special one. We were visiting from Texas and this is one place to take your wife. Courtesy abound - don't miss this establishment.

A uniquely special day was launched for my sister and I at Tea Upon Chatsworth as we were drawn to the quaint locale in Point Loma from my North County abode thanks to a recent Espresso article. Joy Walsh, entrepreneur with a penchant for English flair, fresh presentation and a divine palate, greeted and seated us for a two-hour sampling of her best. The menu at present time consisted of both delicate and exotic, sweet and piquant; my personal favorite of the savories being the 'Artichoke Hearts & Parmigiana in Crisped Bread Shell' while the preferred sweets were the 'Candied Ginger Scone' with a tantalizing Lemon Curd tied with the 'Lovely Lavendar Shortbread.' Premium teas were marvelous, most notable the bergamot and vanilla-based 'Paris' black tea and the rosebud and vanilla 'Mutan White' tea. I will undoubtedly return as Joy's fun menu and au natural design continue to evolve with the seasons.

Decor had that chic country elegance. We had a real heartwarming experience. It's been a week since and I got to have those scones again. Tried another place but it wasn't the same without that rose petal jam. Tea upon Chatsworth...it's worth the chat.

I have of advice for those choosing Tea Upon Chatsworth: eat something before you leave home. While my two companions and I were certainly not expecting an all-you-can-eat situation, we were disappointed with the tiny amount of food for our $25 (that included a tip, which was automatically added to our bill, which they asked that we pay before we sat down) each! The food quality was very good, just too small. And the service left something to be desired. A waitress in a tank top is not my idea of appetizing. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and hope we caught them on a bad day! But we won't be back to see.

My best friend and I have travelled all over California to visit over 25 tea rooms. We were excited to discover a new tea room right here in San Diego. We made our reservations and anxiously set out for a 'tea day' near home. Unfortunately, we had competition from another party at the tearoom. The server while cordial, smiling, and quite willing to accommodate any wish of the other party, was rude and inattentive to us.We were served tea in an ugly brown tea pot, while beautifully feminine tea pots were offered to other guests. Our tea chilled and was not refilled. The food was delicious, but the service was disheartening. We will try again at some time, but are not very impressed at this point.

I had the pleasure of visiting this tearoom twice this month. For a Birthday Tea and with San Diego Tea Society. I can't wait to go again. Every month Joy(owner) changes her menu. Everything tasted wonderful! Scones served fresh from the oven, with rose petal jam & cream. Try the Paris tea. So good, many of the ladies bought it to take home. It's a lovely tearoom with great service and food. ~Antique Store next door.

What a treat to spend afternoon tea with my mother at Tea Upon Chatsworth. The selection of teas and variety of sandwiches and scones were delicious. We actually could not decide on a favorite. We both felt pampered by the friendly service and appreciated the time that was taken to give our food special presentation. I like the way that each place setting at each table is different adding that unique touch. As a special treat a group of 9 girl scouts were having tea as well. We enjoyed listening to Joy teach the young ladies about the history of afternoon tea and tea etiquette. I learned a thing or two myself! We will definitely be back soon to enjoy the new menu.

My daughter and I went here for my 62nd birthday for a High Tea experience. The Salmon Bisque first course was excellent and the savory scones were perfect. The only constructive criticism I would make was that the tea sandwiches could have had more filling as well as a more seasoned one. The service was very slow . . . something about the kitchen, I believe. The decor and table service was pretty, very 'girly' and quaint. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience, but a bit expensive for the qualities offered.

I joined my bestfriend on Boxing Day (12/26) to visit the tea room. What a wonderful experience. The room was full with a couple large and smaller parties of friends and family enjoying their Tea and conversation. The presentation of the Tea was beautiful. We had the High Tea. What a great choice. The salmon bisque was unbelievable. The tea sandwiches were very good. The scones with the homemade rose petal jam and cream were so yummy. There is a great selection of teas to enjoy. The tea room is very nice with a wonderful collection of vintage teapots and cups. Each table setting was special. The raves we were hearing from the other tables were all very positive. The owner made each table feel very special. I was excited to learn about the opening of this tearoom as I have previously experienced the owner's tea presentation at several catered events. We had the high tea and it was just as wonderful as I'd remembered. The atmosphere at the shop is beautiful, yet relaxing and comfortable, and the presentation of the tea was quite elegant. It was nice to have a choice of so many fine teas I would never get to sample otherwise. Without a doubt, they bake the best scones in the universe! The rose petal jam makes them especially delicious and different. The sandwiches were also very tasty, creative and unique. I look forward to going back to try all the seasonal menus. The experience was so much nicer than the average, mass-produced, mechanically presented teas you might find at some of the other places in town. I highly recommend this teashop for freshly made unique food, fine teas, and excellent service.

This tearoom has just opened but it has made a delectable beginning. The scones are the lightest, tastiest I have ever sampled, and I am a seasoned
tea room attendee. All the food was freshly made and a dream on my palate. She offers a different menu for each season of the year. My friend and I had the Autumn Tea and we plan to return for the Winter Tea Menu. Service was attentive and kind. Atmosphere is comfortable but not highly decorated.
Food and table presentation are elegant. Each person has a different tea cup and plate, so it was fun to look around the room and see the different cups. We had a very positive, pleasant tea experience.
