Although we were at Tea Upon Chatsworth six months ago (to celebrate the 21st anniversary of our first date), our memories of that experience have remained fresh in our minds. The Special Holiday Tea was delightful and delicious (especially the pumpkin soup and the fig and brie croissant). The service was stellar and unhurried, the atmosphere, relaxing and the decor was charming - I especially liked the wreaths with tea cups and saucers. All in all, it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. I am so glad we found this gem!

I have had the delightful experience to partake in High Tea at Tea Upon Chatsworth at least four times and EVERY time it has been exceptional. From the tasty well orchestrated tea pourings to the fantastic well matched morsels of food, the owner has always been there to oversee that everything is perfect. Love the pumpkin mousse cream.

I am earl grey but they seemed to have a nice selection available. Food GOOD.
Tea pot on the table, no cozy.
Good service.
They offer special tea parties, i read the flyers.
I expect to be back for the cake decorators convention in 2010 and am most looking forward to visiting this tea room.

As self-described 'tea people' who traveled with Joy on a tea trip to China this past autumn, I know our presence at the tea room made Joy a little nervous. No need to worry!! It was a fantastic experience, as we knew it would be. From the moment we walked in the door, we felt extremely well taken care of. The food was delicious and plentiful, the teas were wonderful (we even took some home with us to San Francisco) and the hospitality could not have been warmer. This is a gem of a place - San Diego, you are fortunate to have Tea-Upon-Chatsworth!

High Tea this afternoon was exceptional. Your New Year's menu was outstanding and the service was wonderful. I have been to your tearoom two or three times prior to this visit. I brought my sister this time as part of her Christmas gift knowing that she would fall in love with your tearoom, as I have. She was so impressed by your menu and said your scone was the best she has even eaten. Thank you for a perfect afternoon. Can't wait to return. Judy

My husband and I wanted to experience high tea for the first time and decided to let Tea Upon Chatsworth be our guide... From the moment we walked in we were immersed into this delightful experience. From the decorations to the way the food is presented you can see they have paid attention to every single detail.
The food was amazing, the best scones we have tried by far. The sandwiches were so fresh and tasty. Our favorite item (besides the scones) was the Apple Caesar tart.
We tried a couple of teas with my favorite being the Apricot tea while my husband loved the Paris the most.

Service was outstanding and we will certainly go back on our next trip to San Diego. There are a lot of teas we have yet to try...

Regards
Angela

It is very rare when a simple experience such as high tea surpasses perfection, as it did last night at Tea Upon Chatsworth. It was the essence of what is meant by 'humane' and 'civilized'!

5 Stars for the Holiday Tea my friend and I had at Chatsworth today. Can't decide which was the best; the orange chai tea, the brie and fig croissant, or the Hummingbird cake.
Happy Christmas, Joy,
from Val

I brought my mom who is visiting from Hawaii and she absolutely loved the ambience of the tearoom. She wishes there was a tearoom on the Big Island in Hawaii now. I have been to your tearoom around five times now, and have always enjoyed the delectable food and smiling staff and beautiful decor. I would highly recommend this exceptional tearoom. P.S. My mom said she enjoyed you even more than Aubrey Rose.

My wife and her friend Nancy and I had a delightful afternoon. I was particularly impressed with the wide variety of flavors offered with the tea sandwiches. The sausage sandwich had delicate and flavor with a tender tecture that was a surprize as was the cream cheese & dried tomato sandwich. each of the sweet offerings also came with their own surprises of flavor. It became as though looking for the prize in a cracker jack box with each of the offerings.

Thank you for your flavor designs.

Respectfully, Jim

Going to Joy's tearoom is always a luxurious, self-indulgent occasion. She is truly talented at making beautiful AND delicious concoctions. I have now experienced afternoon tea, a friend's baby shower, my wedding helpers party, and a chinese tea ceremony event here, and all have been wonderful guest-pleasers. Thank you Joy and Staff

A friend & I visited during Labor Day weekend. In my opinion, Tea-upon-Chatsworth is the EPITOME of what a tea room should be like! Friendly & attentive without being obtrusive. Creative/unique tea menu offerings + the traditional standards. Able to accommodate guests of any age. I especially enjoyed being able to try 3 different teas during my visit (their 'tea of the day' to start, a pot with the High Tea menu + a petite pot of dessert tea before leaving)! This was heaven :) Just wished I lived closer so that I could visit more often. Thank you for such a lovely outing.

It is a grand compliment to this establishment that I would chose to celebrate my birthday at TUC. My daughter asked if I wanted to try another tea room especially since I didn’t know what to expect with TUC’s Summer Islands Menu. I’m used to the more “traditional” afternoon tea menus. I was in for a delightful surprise. Our server, Anna, was very pleasant and attentive. My daughter and I loved the savories. Her favorite was the green tea and rice cuplet. I found it to be delectable as well. EVERYTHING was so fresh and tasty, which is essential for a tea room. The only thing that was not fresh was the wilted bougainvillea at our table but that didn’t matter since we weren’t planning to eat it. The presentation and artistry was exceptional, as always. The ambrosia cream was good b... (more)

I absolutely adore this place and my husband does too! I've been to Tea-upon-chatsworth twice and both times my husband and I had a wonderful experience. The food is delectable and my husband is quite fond of the green tea and rice cuplets. I myself love the scones! There is not a single place that does Scones like Joy does them! I too have been to a dozen tea houses but none have quality tea or perfected the brewing of tea as Tea-upong-chatsworth does! The service is also exceptional, Joy and her staff are very kind and attentive. I can think of no better way to spend a weekend afternoon. See you again soon Joy! Always such a pleasure!

As Henry James so eloquently put it: 'There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.'
Thank you, Shanti!

I had requested a gluten-free option for a recent bridal shower held at this quaint establishment. They served thee most delightful assortment of fruits presented like a bouquet of summer flowers with a lovely liquid pairing. The stuffed yellow pepper with wild rice was baked to perfection. And the salad, the salad was so tasty and creative that I'm still thinking about it. As for tea, their Black Tea with Jasmine is a must try. The chef and staff obviously enjoy what they do and put a lot of love in their creations. I highly recommend Tea Upon Chatsworth.

This weekend I was at Tea Upon Chatsworth for the 4th time. It was a much anticipated baby shower. The experience was disappointing. Despite specifying that the menu was to be vegetarian we were served chicken sandwiches. In making the reservation it was very clearly spelled out (3 telephone calls) that no meat, poultry or fish were to be served. Out of 16 guests 7 were vegetarian and having been told beforehand the menu would be vegetarian - didn't hesitate to eat the sandwiches. It was very distressing to have such a gross misunderstanding with Joy. We paid for high tea. It wasn't worth the extra cost. For $30 for 17 people they should have been able to substitute a different sandwich. I think it was just laziness on their part. I was very disappointed - it is not someplace I will take a party again.
- Melody 08/18/08

Tearoom Response
Dear Melody,
Yes, of course, how could I forget making a Toasted Gorgonzola with Candied Cherries & Walnuts plus also a Green Tea & Rice Croustade in addition to the Stuffed Pepper as your vegetarian substitutes? My best guess is that we inadvertently plated the Bay Leaf & Soy Sauce Chicken which essentially was an extra sandwich for your party. Not an excuse. I truly apologize but wanted you to know we did go the extra mile in accommodating your special request.
Sincerely,
Joy

Nothing makes a teacher more proud than a star student! I recently had the opportunity to speak at this tearoom and visit with Joy, a graduate of my TEA 101 seminar. Her tea foods are some of the best I've encountered. Her comprehensive tea list has something for every tea taste and her tea preparation was spot on. Joy has spent several years broadening her knowledge as a student of tea. Her hard work is evident. Tea-upon-Chatsworth, with its efficient staff and delicious menu, is a haven of tea bliss in the city of San Diego!

I just came back from an Opera Tea at the Tea Upon Chatsworth. Just when I thought that Joy couldn't improve on anything...she proved me wrong. Everything was wonderful! And Anna Suzette who sang was like listening to an angel. Between the music and the food I felt like I was in heaven.
What a wonderful evening. I can't wait until their next event.
