Overview

"BEST TEA HOUSE"
East Bay Express

At The French Bakery you can enjoy the relaxing ambiance of tea in a quaint old house with three separate seating areas: the Morning Room, the Dining Alcove and the Library. You can also sit down and enjoy a scone and a pot of tea, or a dessert and a Cappuccino in our Bakery Parlour or outside on our patio. We have our own awarding-winning bakery on site, and everything is made from scratch, including our Clotted cream. The only ingredient in our clotted cream is 100% cream. We have been voted "Best Tea House" in the Bay Area by the readers of East Bay Express.

We pride ourselves on our homemade luncheon items and our scrumptious afternoon tea fare. We have a very large tea selection of 56 different super-premium black, green, red, and white teas for you to savor at our tea house or to take home, including 24 teas direct from Marriage Frères, Paris.

We also have a wide selection of Tea Cups, Teapots, and Teapots for One, as well as other tea related gift items.

I planned a small baby shower for my sister in law, and based on recommendations from Yelp, booked this tea room for 7 guests. I got to pick the room (pink, with cute decorations and a charming fireplace) and worked with staff to pre-order food and drinks. Our service was excellent, the food was great, and the desserts were amazing. The staff anticipated our needs, were friendly and accommodating, but did not hover. We had a great time honoring the mother-to-be in a relaxed setting. She felt very pampered along with the rest of us. We are coming back for Christmas tea, no doubt!

My husband and I have been enjoying afternoon tea together for several years, seeking out tearooms wherever we travel. Today, attempting to avoid the crowds shopping Black Friday sales, we found a lovely haven of soul-soothing nurturing in this charming tearoom. Devoting three rooms to teatime, each has its own allure. Everything was wonderfully delicious and all made in-house by the owner, who’s also an accomplished pastry chef. The perfectly steeped teas (from a comprehensive list), light and flaky scones, fresh and tasty sandwiches, and delectable desserts were amazing, the perfect blend of sweets & savories. Though my husband usually orders afternoon tea too, he was tempted to try the quiche du jour and French onion soup, and was so glad he did, when he discovered the crustless q... (more)

The French Bakery was absolutly amazing! The food was fabulous, and the waiters were very nice, and kind. The whole place was really preaty, and made me feel as if I was in the 1900s! I thought that you had to dress fancy, and formal but you don't have to, but its much more fun that way!

Lynn and The French Bakery Staff,

My dearest friend, of 53 years & I brought 'Mom' for lunch, on Friday. It was her 80th Birthday celebration. We were very pleased and delighted with the teas, food was delicious, presented beautifully, service was friendly, informative and whitty!
We lingered for 2 1/2 hrs.
Thank you, we shall return, soon!
