I Love this place! I've been coming here since the tea room opened. You can always count on consistent quality. Their quiche is the best I have ever had and their afternoon tea is truly special. The portions are generous compared to other tea rooms as are their prices. It is a pleasant, traditional atmosphere with a friendly, caring staff.

Open on Sundays, a rarity! Cheerful waitress who offerred to get my mom some other kind of tea when she made a face at an unhappy choice. Nice big warm scone and the sandwiches didn't have too much cream cheese. There was FILLING in them. Nice clean lines to the shop. If you like chintz & bricabrack falling from every surface, this isn't a place for you but it IS a lovely little retreat from the world in a sweet little town.

This past sunday, April 27th, I attended the Garden Tea Room for the first time. I ordered Vanilla tea with cream, which I preffer to milk. I overheard someone in the kitchen, later confirmed to be the owner, yelling to the waitress that I 'was not worth the price of cream, and that any idiot knows that you take milk with your tea'. When my waitress returned and politly informed me they only served milk, I walked to the counter to make sure there wasn't any sort of heavy cream in the kitchen I could use instead. The owner then confronted me and loudly told me that they only use cream for baking, and rudly said that tea is strictly taken with milk. I fought my first instinct to leave, and luckily my lunch was wonderful. I enjoyed my food very much, and the service was wonderful, but the rudeness the owner inflicted on me was enough to influence me to take my busines elsewhere.

tearoom response
We do not provide cream to our customers because it ruins the taste of the tea. We try very hard to accommodate the dietary needs of our customers. And we value our customers very much. However, the demands by this customer for something that we do not supply were very unnerving to both the server and myself. This even after the server did tell the customer that we do not provide cream. The scenario described is not accurate, nor is it appropriate as a post on this website. We hope that our customers continue to enjoy the tea room and we look forward to making each visit special. For this particular customer, we do feel satisfied that you won't be returning or making further attempts to harm our business, which is enjoyed by so many others.

I've only been to a half dozen tearooms in New Jersey, but this is my favorite. It is small and unpretentious, but has true 'tea spirit.' :-) The brewing of tea is perfect, and I love the way they strain the brewed tea into a clean pot, so you aren't stuck with 'battery acid' after 10 minutes. There's nothing worse than tea that has been stewing in its own leaves for a long time! The food menu is small but excellent. Sometimes they are out of my favorite tea (Assam), but they are so kind, attentive and professional, and there are so many other teas to choose from, it's not a problem. I love the Garden Tea Room!

Everthing served in this tearoom is extremely fresh. I usually order a salad, and the lettuce is always beautiful with just the right amount of dressing. The tea selection is extensive and always served at exactly the right temperature.

I have been to many tea rooms both in England and in the U.S. This tea room is very authentic and quaint. The food was very good. The server was perfect for a tea room. We couldn't have felt more welcome. I would highly recommend this tea room to everyone. It also makes a great place for lunch or a private party.
