Variety: We have been driving by this little house for months and finally decided to stop in for a visit. What a great place to shop and have a lovely lunch. Thanks for making us feel like we were part of the family. The couple that was seated at the table in the other room, said we were in for a real treat! They said they drive all the way from Alvin at least once a week for lunch. My husband thought they had to be related to the owner.Later we learned it was Al & Bettye Welling from Alvin,Texas. My husband Hank bought his first Cadillac from Al Welling Motor Company in Alvin many many moons ago. What a small world we live in. Good luck with your new banquet room, we know you will be very successful ! |

Variety: Based on some of the snotty responses from the tea room on this review page, I am sure to expect one based on my poor review. They were late opening, and gave our party 'free' champagne because of this. Ok, fair enough. Then the gentleman ignored our opposition to prayer time, because “we were in his house”. Granted we were, but we were paying customers with our own religious preferences in his house. We were all very nice, not that we approved, but because we took the higher ground, after he ignored us. On to the meal, it was very good but also very small. My elderly grandmother, that everyone complains doesn’t eat enough could have cleaned her plate. Then, the gentlemen reminds us that our champagne was on the house, but instead charges us $20 per person versus the $15 per person we were... (more) |

Tearoom Response
Dear Maf,I asked if someone would like to say a blessing, and some times people are bashful. So I just sang my Grandmothers blessing... Be present at our table lord ! I am truely sorry that I offended you! Bless You:) |

Variety: I liked that this was a family owned establishment with a beautiful little girl serving us. However, I came with a group and we were overcharged despite the owner's original quote. Additionally, not everyone in our group was Christian, so some of the group members were offended when he insisted on praying over us despite our objections. This is the second time I have seen the owner offend a group since visiting the tea room. The last time was several months ago when I saw him have an argument with another lady with a group she brought into the restaurant. At the time I was dining with a friend of mine. I decided to give him another chance this time since I didn't know what prefaced the argument, but seeing him add additional charges to our group has made me wonder about the owner's business ethics. I hope the owner will consider this when he works with other groups. |

Tearoom Response
Thank you for the kind words... The little girl is my daughter!:) Please understand that we have a policy that a $400 bench mark has to be met to have the room to yourself. $400.00 plus 20% gratuity and 8% sales tax. When we close our door to walk in business we have to place a value on that. Your group did not call 72 hours in advance, to confirm your book club was coming. For $20.00 per person inclusive of tax and Gratuity, your group had the room to yourself for $200.00 total plus free Mimosas. |
|
Variety:
I previously visited this tearoom when it was under a different name and ownership. I had a very positive experience at that time and subsequently recommended it as a venue for an upcoming book club review meeting. My experience this time under new ownership can only be described as 'unfortunate'. This is not because of the food or decor lacking but because of the owner's arrogance and complete lack of sensitivity towards its guests. |

Tearoom Response
Reena,Sorry that I offended your group. Please not I did not overcharge your group, please do the math. $11.95 food ( spinach dip on baguette, cup of soup, entree, & dessert) $2.25 tea, $2.25 coffee, $4.00 pot of tea, 20% Gratuity, 8% Sales Tax, free mimosas. |

Variety:
The food was pretty good. The turkey & Swiss sandwich was ok, maybe it would have been better if it was on a croissant. Your grandmothers lemon bars are the best. The boutique looks great Dr. McAtee, and I don't say that just because you are my kids Doc ( Kayleen & Steven). Where do you find the time? |

Variety: The owner forgot our book club had a reservation, overcharged us for the same food that was on the menu for $11.95, and felt the need to pray over our group and talk to us about Jesus and the tombstone. As a Christian, I was offended that he needed to share with his beliefs with our group and then overcharge us, while also promoting his friend's book. |

Tearoom Response
Dear Lisa,When we book a private party for two hours we charge $400 ++. We take a $100 non-refundable deposit, and we require a call 72 hours out with a firm count. No one called with a firm count and I did forget liked I said when I arrived six minutes late. For the six minutes we offered free champaign and did not charge for the 15 people guarantee for this event. If I charged ($11.95 for soup,entree,dessert),$2.25 tea,$3.00 for a pot of tea,$2.25 for coffee,20% service charge,8% sales tax, the total per person would have exceeded the $20 per person I charged you. As for praying over you, I sang a blessing my Grandmother sang to us children at her table. Some of the ladies liked it! Everything went off like promised and everyone said what a great lunch they had. As for my story about the folded napkin, the moral to the story was I hope everyone would return to The Milk Pail. You had the room from 11:06 until 1:30 for only $200 and free champaign! You got a great deal. I hope you forgive me for ' praying over your group', I know you will because you are a good christian. Have a blessed day. |

Variety: WOW, Jay, All I can say is 'thank-you for a superb afternoon'. The food was excellent, I had the chicken salad, chocolate ganash for dessert and both were awesome. The added attraction of a real live author was most interesting and enjoyed by all. Can hardly wait to return to your outstanding tea room. |

Variety: What a wonderful eating experience. A beautiful old house with lots of trinkets to look at. A lovvely dining room where we were served the most scrumptious food on beautiful antique china. Soft music to encourage quiet conversation, And OH the food! A sausage quiche that melted in my mouth, homamade potato soup that brought back childhood memories and stayed hot to the last drop. My friend and I ate every bit and had to hold onto our manners and not lick the dishes when we finishd! I had lemon squares warmed just right with more hot apple tea. My friend had carrot cake that tasted like none he'd ever had before. All served by a most congenial guy name Jay. Actually I felt like family by the time we left. Let me politely mention the prices were most appropriate. Whoever reads this; do yourself a favor and visit 'The Milk Pail' and I guarantee you'll keep going back! |
