This place is not the same. Shame on the new owner for letting the quality go down. I will not return to the Painted Lady again and that makes me sad.

I booked a tea here for eight people, including myself, on a Sunday afternoon. The place LOOKS wonderful. Atmosphere is the only thing not lacking here, imho. Service was so-so,certainly slow, and the tea was not made correctly, the water was so cold most of us ended up with barely colored/flavored water even after allowing it to steep for quite some time. The food was okay, but not memorable. As a group, we have decided to explore other tea places.

You can tell someone else owns the restaurant now. It is not the same Painted Lady as years ago. That is just a shame..

The lack of knowledge about tea was quite evident in our server and on the menu (the listed earl grey in the black tea section, not the flavoured black tea section), the scones were overly dry and only came in plain and cinnamon raisin, service inattentive and intrusive when it came. The tea was quite weak. Decor was nice.

I liked the house, but the food was a little plain, and thought the treats would have been better, not peanut butter cookies and brownies.

I co-hosted a shower here and overall, found the experience very disappointing. While the food was good, it took forever to get it as well as drinks. My daughter's food came well after everyone else had finished eating and their plates had been cleared. I was there for an hour, as well as another guest, before we were given any beverages. Only 1 server was provided for 22 people which is just not realistic. Everyone at our table was thirsty the whole time and wondering where their food was. I was very embarrassed and disappointed as this was not how I envisioned my sister's baby shower. The staff spent at least 30 minutes cramming extra tables and chairs into a tiny room because they gave away the room we had booked a month in advance. This combined with the incredibly long time to... (more) get food or beverages caused our party to run over by 30 minutes. We were pressured to leave as the party after ours had arrived and the room was needed. We were then subjected to rude comments from the following party, as they did not know the circumstances of our visit. The owner hid from us as we attempted to resolve the issues and made no offer to remedy the situation. I would not recommend The Painted Lady for any large parties!

The positives of the tearoom were the delicious food and the nice atmosphere. However, the negatives of our party's visit greatly exceeded the positives. We had reserved a specific room at least a month in advance for a baby shower. We followed all of the owner's directions in paying deposits and calling with a more precise # two days before the event. However, we were incredibly disappointed when our room was given away to another party (obviously another shower that also appeared to have been booked in advance) and we were squished into a tiny room with not enough tables, chairs, or space for our group. We had to wait quite a while for sufficient furniture to be carried in so we could at least sit down (causing everything to get off to a late start). After our orders were finally t... (more)aken, it took an extremely long time for our meals to arrive. Approximately 15 minutes after desert arrived, I was informed that they had another group waiting for that room (the tiny room we were crammed into) and that we needed to leave. After paying $350 for our party, you would think we would have been treated with a little more respect. I definitely would not recommend this place for a large party or special event.

While living in Norfolk from 2004-2006 I often visited The Painted Lady for afternoon tea. The tea, food and service was always excellent. I dearly miss visiting The Painted Lady now that I'm living in California and it seems that just about every place that serves afternoon tea here requires a reservation. Whenever I make it back to Norfolk The Painted Lady will one of my first stops.

I was turned off when I saw three roaches climbing on the wall next to me. I was overall pleased since we were there for a kid's tea birthday party.
