Hello all. Let me advise all here that the Upper Crust changed hands November of '07. It is no longer a British themed restaurant/Tea room. It is now an Indian/Pakistani eatery. I have not eaten in the new establishment as I don't care for the cuisine from that part of the world. Gave the avg rating based on what friends have told me of the new place. I for one was very sorry to see the former owners leave. The (real) Upper Crust was my favorite restaurant in the area. Sad to see it go.

Someone told me that the people who orginally owned the Upper Crust are still in the area selling their trademark scones. Rumor had it that they had a website, but I have not been able to confirm, or find it via Google.

I am so glad I found these reviews. When their website wasn't working I began to wonder why.

I was planning on having my Red Hat chapter go there in April. We want an English Tea Room not a Pakistan restaurant that serves tea. Looks like we'll have to make other plans.

Diner beware! - this is NOT the same Upper Crust as it used to be.
It is infact a pakistani restaurant. It you call they will tell you they still serve an English tea but they don't seem to understand how much the ambiance plays a role in the whole experience. I'm so glad we saw the 12/8/07 review. We also opted for High Societea in Wayne and had a wonderful time.

IMPORTANT: The Upper Crust is NO LONGER a traditional tea house. After reading these reviews, I called, spoke with the receptionist (i'm assuming) and made a reservation for 'afternoon tea.' Upon arrival, my mother, sister, and I were dismayed to find that the Upper Crust is now a full-service pakistani restaurant. They retained the original name and even offer afternoon tea along with their regular menu, but we did not stay long enough to find out how good/bad it was. The smell of curry was enough to convince us to leave before even ordering. Don't get me wrong, I love pakistani food as much as the next person, but it just doesn't work when i'm expecting an afternoon of tea and scones. what a huge disappointment! We went to High SocieTea (Wayne, NJ) instead and had a wonderful time.

I have always enjoyed visiting this cafe. The decor takes you right into the experience, and the waitresses and waiters are very high class and professional. You certainly get an experience when you visit, and it's authentic, which is not the case in all tea houses. This place is a distance for me to go to, but it's always worth the ride. A must to experience!!

We recently went to the Upper Crust. I had been to several tea rooms previously, but my friend had not. We both agreed on our summation of the tearoom. There was an ample selection of interesting teas particularly the loose tea which was very good. My friend had Earl Grey and I had an Amber Apricot black tea blend. Although good,it got cold quickly and was over steeped and a bit bitter as there was no way to properly remove the leaves after steeping time. The tea tray had some nice scones, an average but varied pastry selection, and somewhat stale and simple finger sandwiches on primarily white bread. The atmosphere, however, was very British, charming, and whimisical. I enjoyed the red door outside designed to imitate an English phonebooth as well as the portraits of the royal family and the flags. The mixture of mismatched cups and indivdual teapots added a playful note. On a scale of one to ten,we agreed... a seven.
