Variety: My first visit to a tea room. What fun for my mother and me to share. Such a nice place with very friendly and helpful ladies working there. A few rude ladies sat neaxt to us, but we didn't allow there bad behavior to ruin our great memory. Thanks to Windy and the others we really had fun and plan to return many more times. |

Variety: I absolutely loved this tearoom. The food was simply darling, with little scones and sandwiches. I loved the dainty, mismatched china and teacups, too. The atmosphere was perfect and afterwards we had a lovely stroll alongside the water. |

Variety: Took my 11 year old son for tea there. The servers were kind and attentive and the food and presentation was excellent. I will definitely have tea there again the next time I am in Wilmington. |

Variety: Just not what we expected. It does have have nice setting. But, that is really all I can say that stood out. A bit pricey for the amount of food also. |

Variety: Their secret is in their love for what they do. Attention to detail is number one priority at this Tea Room and it shows. The decor is stunning - exactly what one pictures when conjuring up an image, plus a water view. The food is delectable. Finally, the service is top-notch. I only discovered the Tea Room last summer, but I have been several times since then and I always make a point to take my friends. Each and every one has raved! |

Variety: Love the Wilmington Tea Room! The food is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxing. Having tea at the Wilington Tea Room is not just lunch it is an experience. I suggest the full tea. |

Variety: When I moved to this area, the Wilmington Tea Room quickly became my favorite place to take friends for lunch. The decorating and tea service is both charming and cheerful. I find it delightful that each time I go I get a different china tea service than I have had before. Also, I can't resist putting at least one 'cube' of sugar in my tea with silver tongs (even though I don't use sugar). The tea ritual is calming and lovely. The variety of tea covers at least two pages in the menu but I had the Tuscan Pear on my fist visit and rarely stray from the taste of ripe pears. The staff is always careful to advise the correct timing for every tea. The food takes me back to my childhood when all food was prepared from scratch and cooks loved to have a special ingredient that ... (more) |

Variety: This is one of the nicest places I can think of to eat in here in Wilmington. The people truly make the Tea Room what it is. What lovely people work there, especially Tracy. Thank Goodness they are there. It is immaculatly clean and the food is wonderful. You must give it a try. |

Variety: Well, if anyone would kindly point me in the direction of the deli counter that sells chicken salad like this - I will be on my way! Had lunch at the Wilmington Tea Room, or the 'TR' as I heard one of the servers affectionately call it, today and I can't remember a nicer lunch. A dear friend from up north in town for a few days, we had a perfect view of the river and the bridge, and we lingered for quite a long time over our tea and savories. Well done, Wilmington Tea Room. ***** |

Variety: THE BEST - no question! I have been to this Tea Room more than ten times, and I will be back a hundred more. The service and food never disappoint. :) |

Variety: It was WONDERFUL! The location and setting - all of it! Get yourself there, expecially if you have not been. (And for the record, I think your chicken salad IS worth raving over. I only WISH my grocery store sold chicken salad like this.) |

Variety: I was so looking forward to coming here after all the excellent reviews, but I was a bit disappointed. The atmosphere is wonderful, however the variety and quality of the food left something to be desired. The chicken salad that everyone raves about tasted like it came from the grocery store deli counter. |

Variety: If you are a tea lover, you won't be disappointed! I agree with my mother's five star review. My friend didn't have any trouble finding a suitable decaf selection, I went with the house-recommended Cherry Rose, and my 7 year old loved the Tutti Frutti. As for our meal, we were beyond impressed. From the fresh berry salad, to the last crumb of 'dark chocolate blackberry brownie', this tea service was AWESOME! I'd also like to point out that we were seated, without a reservation, in our casual vacation clothes. There were girls at a large table, enjoying a girly tea party in their dresses and hats, and there were others like us - on vacation, on a stroll through downtown, lucky enough to stumble upon this gem. It is most definitely a wonderful place for a casual outing. How unfortunate that someone would say otherwise.:( We loved it, and we can't wait to return! |

Variety: Oh! I think the previous reviewer was in the wrong place! How can you give it four stars for variety, then say it is lacking? I respectfully disagree. We visited this darling place on the river today, and I am so forward to going again! With two full menu pages devoted to tea selections (probably 50 or more, one of the best selections I've seen in my visits to nearly 100 tea rooms over the past 20 years) there is truly something for everyone! My daughter, her friend who is expecting, and my granddaughter each ordered their own small pot (I shared with each!) and we all ate full tea. What an abundance of truly gourmet food. The little gift shop is delightful, too, with teacups and pots and the most adorable little aprons. I have made a reservation for my red hat group, and I will be sure to recommend you to all my friends. Well done! |

Variety: My daughters and I are avid tea drinkers. Unfortunately, we were highly disappointed when we arrived at the Wilmington Tea Room. The variety of teas are lacking. I frequently visit numerous tea rooms and I would not recommend this tea room to any of my personal friends nor anyone looking for a casual outing. |
|

Variety: I could not say enough nice things about this wonderful place and the great ladies who keep it going! You are the best, and I hope you will stick around. :) |

Variety: My sisters and my mother and I had the best time getting dressed up and coming to the Wilmington tea room! The berry salad and full tea are excellent. |

Variety: Love the new owners! I have been to the Wilmington Tea room under the previous owner and left very unhappy with the service, staff and price. The new owners/staff are wonderful. I love the changes and will be back again much sooner than in the past. |

Variety: What can I say that has not already been said? Your place is as adorable as they come and your chef is outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant to tea lovers and non tea drinkers alike, as the food really is the main attraction. Keep up the GREAT JOB! |

Variety: Wow! I knew it would be great, after checking the feedback, but it was better than GREAT! Thank you for saving us a seat, even though we were late! The only thing better than the service at the Wilmington Tea Room is the delicious food. I have read all the descriptions - amazing, to die for, etc - but it's just plain delicious! All the cute little girls in their aprons make you feel so welcomed, they bring you a fresh pot of lose-leaf tea and describe your food options, but you have no idea what a treat your in for! Then the seafood bisqe arrives and you think it can't get better. Until your huge serving platter comes out, loaded with goodies fresh from the oven. You will know your in heaven when you taste the ooey gooey chocolate bar. I could go on and on, but I think anyone who has been already gets it. Anyone who hasn't - well, more for the rest of us! Make a reservation and they will save you a seat too! |

Variety: We had heard great buzz - you did not disappoint us! Truly an experience to treasure! My two daughters and four granddaughters had simply the most fantastic Mother's Day at **THE WILMINGTON TEA ROOM** - a name to remember if you want the best tea house experience. Over the past thirty-three years, I have traveled the entire country and to many abroad. Tea rooms are always my 'thing' to experience whenever I can. I can candidly say that I will have a hard time placing any other tea room above yours - far and away THE BEST!! |
|
- Shirley Willetts 05/12/09 |
|
Variety: I can't wait for my next visit! If you have not been to the Wilmington Tea Room, you should. I go for the seafood bisque and scones, and I always end up getting 'Sweet Tea' too! Their food is just the best. |
|
- Lisa Anderson 05/12/09 |
|
Variety: My daughter brought me to this Tearoom for Mother's Day. The owner was our server, the most thoughtful little lady. We had a wonderful time, and the food was just perfect! We also love all the mix-match vintage china and cloth napkins. |

Variety: On a day when there was a 'full house,' you seated my sister and myself and made us feel like we were the only two people in the joint. I promised you a super review, and here it is! Thank you for the attention to detail and A+ service. Thank you for the most wonderful chicken salad either of us has ever had (we agreed, finally - the ham salad is a close second!) Thank you for the charming location in which to spend a few hours catching up and being girly. Congratulations on your one year anniversary of ownership - we wish you much continued success! We will do our part to keep this lovely little tea room in bustling business! |

Variety: My daughters, granddaughters and I had the most wonderful Mother's Day experience at the Wilmington Tea Room. Outstanding presentation and top tier service! Yummy, yummy scones and sandwiches, AND dessert! Thank you for a memorable afternoon - we are already anticipating our next visit. |

Variety: While strolling the Boardwalk in downtown Wilmington last weekend, my huband and I happened upon this charming little spot. Tucked away in a cozy little corner of a part of downtown where the streets are still cobbled, this is a restaurant we wish we'd discovered earlier in our vacation. The view of the river and bridge from our table was spectacular, and was enhanced by the soothing music tinkling in the background. We ordered seafood bisque (superb!), followed by full tea service. Imagine our delight when we presented with such an elegant, plentiful spread! The scones are like none other I've tasted, moist and light - and decadent with fresh cream and strawberry preserves. The sandwiches were delicious! We especially enjoyed the ham salad on cinammon bread - so unexpected... (more) |

Variety: A real treat! The place is sparkling clean, which is a big deal for me. The wait staff was very friendly from the moment we walked in. And the food is outstanding!!!! Thanks so much for a real treat, one of the nicest restaurants we've been to in Downtown. |

Variety: I can't remember ever having been in a restaurant where the owner was my waitress and everyone was so happy to be in that place! Its no wonder because its a gorgeous restaurant, elegant but causal. We enjoyed picking out vintage tea-party hats for our pictures on the deck, too. All the food was delicious - we were STUFFED! :) Thank you for helping us choose a tea to enjoy, since we were obviously not tea-savvy. I know I will be back for sure!! |

Variety: We loved it! And as promised, we will spread the word that the Wilmington Tea Room is the greatest! The full tea was simply the best. Everything looked too beautiful to eat and tasted delicious. The seafood bisque is the best I have ever tasted - and I am a seafood LOVER!! I am already looking forward to my next visit! |

Variety: Everything about the Wilmington Tea Room is pleasant and inviting. The staff is courteous and attentive, restaurant is immaculate - my friend even took a photo of the 101.5 health department score because she had never been to a restaurant over 100! Our full tea with asian salad appetizer was out of this world. We traveled from Mount Olive for a special day in Wilmington, and this was the highlight of our trip. Can't wait to go back! |

Variety: My sister and I took our mother to the Wilmington Tea Room today for our annual Mother's Day girls-only lunch. What a delight! As usual, we ordered full tea service for the whole 'shebang.' The presentation was excellent and the food is outstanding, both in terms of quality and quantity. One of our favorite spots throughout the year, and always the perfect place for a special occassion. |

Variety: Everything about my visit to The Wilmington tea room was five-star 'excellent'. I wasnt sure what to expect because of mixed reviews. I was impressed by the view and the relaxing atmosphere. My 'savory tea' was indeed savory! I'll definately recommend and I will be back for sure. Thanks for a wonderful experience! |

Variety: I can't say enough nice things about this lovely little tea room. Last weekend I took my granddaughter for her first proper tea. The food was superb! We sampled three different pots of tea, and took our time savoring the atmosphere. Our time there was wonderful! I have already made a reservation for lunch later this week with a friend. I am certain she will love it as much as we did. Simply the best! |

Variety: For the second year in a row, the girls in my family chose the Wilmington Tea Room as the location for our 'Girls Luncheon' during our family reunion at the beach. For the second year in a row, we were completely thrilled with the atmosphere, food, and service at this charming tea room. We will continue to come, if they will continue to have us! Thank you to the wonderful staff who made us feel like we were truly experiecing an 'EVENT' and not just a lunch. We loved everything about it! |

Variety: My friend and I took our 4 year old daughters here for tea service this morning. There had been some scheduling conflicts earlier in the week, but, Alexis, the owner, was INCREDIBLY accomodating. Our daughters had a wonderful time with the 'wee tea' and my friend and I enjoyed the delicious food as much as we enjoyed watching our little girls enjoy their tea. This is a MUST for a mother/daughter day and I HIGHLY recommend the Wilmington Tea Room for its tea service, atmosphere, friendliness, flexibility, and cuisine! I will definately be back!!! |
|
- Michelle 04/17/09 |

Variety: This is a beautiful restaurant, with the most delicious chicken salad I've ever tasted. The seafood chowder is also wonderful. Next time we'll order the full tea, which looks abundant and delightful! |

Variety: I agree ENTIRELY with Suzie A. The ladies at the Wilmington Tea Room have a passion for what they do and it shows. I too have visited many tea rooms, both here and abroad. In some I have found nice presentation, but so-so food. In others, great food with ok service. This place is the complete package! Vintage china and pressed linens on the tables add that special touch. There is even a server with an English accent - too charming! My understanding is that their tables stay full most of the time, and I can see why. You will not be disappointed when you make the decision to visit this quaint riverside Tea Room. Go for the full tea service for a little (a big) taste of all the delicacies the chef has created. And don't skip the seafood bisque - to die for. Classy all the way! |

Variety: I am a tea LOVER. 2 weeks ago a friend and I had the full tea at the Wilmington Tea Room. I have to tell you, my husband and I have had tea in hundred's of places including a few castle's but they cannot compare to the tea here! The tea was fantastic but the sandwiches, scones and pastries were over the top delicious. I think their secret may be the love, hard work and real enjoyment for what they do that they put into your tea experience. The place was spotless, the staff friendly and all of the little extra touches everywhere including the ladies room added up to an experience you would be hard pressed to duplicate anywhere else. Thank you again for a memorable luncheon. |

Variety: I stopped by while in town for the Azalea Fest, adn I can't wait to go back. A busy Saturday afternoon yet I felt like I was being served by my own personal butler. (Is the English accent real?) No matter - the food was presented so elegantly and everything was very tasty. The mint iced tea is the best! I would definitely recommend and I will go back when I am in town next time! |

Variety: My family and I are heading to the beach for spring break and we can't wait for our lunch at the Wilmington tea room! The food is the best, and we are always treated so nicely by the staff. If you are headed to Wilmington too, you should go by for lunch or cream tea. And a gooey chocolate bar - DELICIOUS!!! |
|
- Janelle Leigh 04/01/09 |

Variety: My daughter and I drove from Myrtle Beach to enjoy lunch at the Wilmintgon Tea Room, and were pleased to find the following: a charming historic interior, beautifully decorated and accented with fresh flowers and lovely music; two full menu pages of tea offerings in different styles and flavors; plentiful servings of gourmet-quality food; and a very charming server (Anna) who was not only knowledgeable about the brewing and serving of tea, but who also took plenty of time to help us in our selections. We make it a point to visit tea rooms on every vacation or trip we take, and this is truly the only one I would make a 2-hour drive to experience time and again. I have given it five stars because this site won't let me give it ten! |

Variety: What a nice surprise when my daughter and friends treated me to afternoon tea at the Wilmington Tea Room! We enjoyed the Full Tea with everything presented fresh, well prepared and delicious. The selection of teas is wonderful especially for someone like me who does not enjoy coffee. It made for a lovely afternoon with prompt, attentive and friendly service. I can't wait for my next visit to Wilmington as I will definitely insist on having tea in this charming and picturesque Tea Room. It is apparant why this is rated one of the best. REAL CLASS! |

Variety: I'd like to share the following: From the NovDec 2008 Issue of The Tea House Times. The Wilmington Tea Room, 224 S. Water Street, Wilmington, NC, 910-343-1832 www.wilmingtontearoom.com Located on the eastern bank of the Cape Fear River directly on downtown’s historic Riverwalk, the Wilmington Tea Room is perfectly situated to provide a respite from the harried pace of contemporary life. Once inside the Tea Room, visitors are greeted by periwinkle walls and a cheery staff. Tables are set with a mélange of lovely pieces of china, each place setting accentuated with silver and crisp, white, embroidered linens. These subtle touches make the Tea Room comfortable for visitors new to tea rooms, for tourists in their shorts and casual shirts, as well as for brides-to-be and the... (more) |

Variety: For anyone who read the previous post and doubts the authenticity of these reviews, pay no mind. The author, who, coincidentally chooses to remain anonymous, as do all negative reviewers, has obviously not been into the tea room recently. While always a very charming restaurant with excellent food and friendly (although somewhat inconsistent) service in the past, it has undergone a wonderful transformation since being taken over by a new owner last year. We have come to the defense of our friend and colleague as the result of a negative review, true. But this does not make our feedback fabricated or irrelevant. Please note that nearly every five star review is accompanied by someone's name. This site has a block that will not allow you to post more than one review. Shame on you Southern Tea Lover. If you were so unimpressed, why wait until now to post your review? Talk about a coincidence... A delightful experience for all. Five plus stars. Don't take our word for it; see for yourself! |

Variety: I am a tea lover and find it really hard to believe that this tea room had only four reviews until it had one very bad one. Immediately following the poor review, it received over two dozen favorable reviews all on the same day, very unusual. How ironic and what a coincidence. This seems very suspicious to me and I am sure anyone who reads the entire list of reviews would agree. This is supposed to be a site where people can get honest opinions from visitors. I can only hope that these reviews are real, and if they are, Kudos to you for bringing your tea room back. I hope that it is all true because I have been to your tea room a few times and found it to be just average. |

Variety: I have had the great pleasure of enjoying this wonderful tea room twice. The first time being with my two little girls Girl Scout group, where the whole staff went above and beyond to accommodate our large and very excited group of Mom's and girls. We enjoyed it so much we came back with our family and friends later for a Mother's Day tea where we enjoyed a very special day that we will always remember. We greatly enjoyed the assortment of wonderful tea's, giving my girls a new appreciation for a fine berry tea! The food was so good, and the girls loved getting their very own tray of goodies. I highly recommend the She Crab soup, so yummy! We will definitely be back and look forward to another wonderful afternoon at the Wilmington Tea Room. |

Variety: I had the pleasure of experiencing the Wilmington Tea Room a few months ago when I planned a private party for my niece. I live in Ohio and the majority of our guests traveled from all over the Midwest to attend. I am an administrator, a planner, so I had very high expectations regarding the level of service and quality of their facility and food, especially since I had not been there before so everything had to be planned from afar. We were completely impressed with the facility, the attention to detail, the attentiveness of the staff, the quality and presentation of the food, and the fairness of their pricing. Alexis and her team took care of every detail, accommodated every request, and made us feel very welcomed and appreciated. I plan events for a Fortune 500 company and I know what to look for when it comes to getting the most for your dollar and providing a quality event. I can assure you that is exactly what you will get from the Wilmington Tea Room. |

Variety: I have been to the tea room four or five times now and each time has been delightful. Coming from Australia and now living in the US we really miss our 'hot tea' so it has been wonderful to find this little place that serves tea (I recommend the 'On the Waterfront' herbal tea) The food is excellent and I always order the high tea, starting with the salad and finishing with the ooey gooey chocolate squares. If you are visiting Wilmington NC I highly recommend you stop by for lunch! |

Variety: I have been to the tea room several times and have nothing less than a truly wonderful experience. I even had a friend's baby shower there and the Tea Room staff couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating! The food and tea were excellent. Our servers were more than able to make everyone happy and ensure a good time. Everyone loved the tea as well. I also have to mention, my husband and I took our kids to the tea room for lunch. I was a little nervous as they are 3 and 1... But our server was helpful and friendly. The kids had a great time and enjoyed the food and even tea. This is such a welcoming place, a perfect place for lunch, party, or just a girlfriend's day out. |

Variety: Wow! Alexis and all, I am sure you're distressed over this 'IRRATE' person who is leaving bad reviews all over the place, but take heart. There are many 'highly professionals' who hold you in 'highly' regard. My official review for prospective visitors is: Visit this tea room as soon as possible, you will not be disappointed. In addition to hosting my bridal shower AND baby shower at the Wilmington Tea Room, I take clients in for lunch several times a month. The food is fresh and very tasty. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable! I echo the previous reviewer - Wilmington (and native, 'small town' Wilmingtonians) LOVES The Wilmington Tea Room. |

Variety: I visited the tea room for lunch today with two of my friends and was witness to the most appalling display of ignorance and hostility I could imagine. An obnoxious group of young people arrived nearly an hour late for their reservation. (I know this because when we walked in without a reservation we were asked to return in 45 minutes to accommodate the large group.) Although two members of the party had arrived on time, all the rest just walked in, as if everyone would drop everything for them. Our table was immediately next to the group, so we heard every word of conversation. They were so angered by being asked to please proceed with their order that they began to berate their waitresss and make ridiculous demands! For a moment it was as if we had encountered a toddler tea party. W... (more) |

Variety: There is not a low enough score to rate this place! I am IRRATE as of right now. My close friends and I have planned to have a nice luncheon for our friend, who is to be married end of this month. We thought it would be nice to enjoy time together there celebrating her engagement. BOY WERE WE WRONG!!! From the moment we entered the a dark curly haired woman greeted us with nothing but PURE attitude. I have never seen such behavior. Rushing us to get our group of 10 ppl there & start our lunch orders. (knowing with a group of 10 not everyone is going to arrive at the same times) I think that should be knowledge that every restaurant could understand. Especially with this location being downtown wilmington with no specialized parking place for the restaurant. The woman proceded to ... (more) |
