What a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion or to enjoy lunch and tea with a good friend. The food is delicious, there are many teas to choose from and the service is the nicest around. It is always enjoyable.

Taking tea at the Top Floor Tea Room has always proven to be an exceptionally fine experience and taking tea today with a special friend was no exception. I like green tea and so today tried Long Island Tea which had a pleasant, fruity flavor to it. While the portion of Chicken Waldorf was large, it was delicious and I cleaned my plate! The desserts are all yummy as well.
P.S. My husband has 'taken tea' with me as well, taking coffee instead and never going away hungry.

My sister and I have had a 'tearoom vacation'. Of all the Sacramento area and outlying counties 'The Top Floor Tea Room' is superior to all; elegant and peaceful. Thoughtfully decorated without all the commerical tea products in your face..Though you can purchase them downstairs along with a wide varity of teas. An adult setting...could be London or Paris without being stuffy. The desserts, sandwiches and scones were exquisite. I encourage all to make the trip to Nevada city to try the Tea Room. It was the pinicle of our tour. Thank you Jill and others for your warm welcome.
P.S. Susan says the lemon curd is to die for. Thats why we are making the 1 1/2 hr.trip back up there Sunday! Enjoy .

I have been to many tearooms and this is one of the best! To start with, the location is wonderful. How could you go wrong being located in Nevada City. The next delight is that the tearoom is upstairs to a wonderful antique store. Then you arrive upstairs and the room is beautiful without being overdone. It's a very nice combination of elegant decor and coziness. The hostess was extremely welcoming and kind and at the same time, professional. The menu is fantastic and they have a true artist in their chef. Some of the best tea sandwiches I've had! The only unfortunate discordant note was our waitress. She was young and not very interested in being a 'tearoom waitress'. She didn't explain what all the goodies were on the three-tiered tray and she never came to check our teapots ... (more)

My sister was visiting me in Nevada City and we decided to go to the Top Floor Tea Room. From the minute we arrived we were treated to the grace and welcoming attitude we found throughout our time in the tea room. The greeter didn't just say 'welcom', she made us feel it in every way. The tea menu was very good and was served properly. My sister and I both had the grilled applewood ham, sharp cheddar on rye sandwich served with a beautiful baby green salad. We topped it off with a creme caramel for dessert. The food was great but it was the attitude and grace of the staff that made the time there with my sister memorable. It was a hit!

I only think of Top Floor Tea Room when I want to treat my daughters, granddaughters, mother and friends to a lovely, gracious time over steaming cups of tea and delicious food. (Yes, and grandsons and husband too.) I've been to many tea rooms, but I'm very proud that the best I've visited is in my home town. Everything about the experience is beautifully thoughtout from the exquisite antiques that fill the room to the proper pot of tea and from the High Tea delicacies to the special luncheon fare. The atmosphere is created with authentic Victorian furniture, mirrors, and chandeliers enhanced with wallpaper patterns from the period. Gracious touches, such as crisp linens and fresh flowers, found around the room and even in the Loo grace the top of an outstanding Antique Store dating from t... (more)

Take time out at the Top Floor Tea Room. You will feel special during the whole dining experience. I especially enjoy bringing friends who have never been there. Recently I brought a friend who had been in the hospital for 12 days. The staff was very informative about the menu and teas that would specifically be good for her. She felt like a new woman after her visit. What a treat!

The perfect atmosphere to take a brake from modern life that bring me joy every time I go there. The classical music, the antique furniture, an ambient that brings to another time, the lovely welcoming, the vast selection of teas and wonderful food (the soups are incredible) make the 'Top Floor Tea Room' the best place in town.

Mr. Shaw is a true gentlman who makes all his guests feel special. He has taken great pains to serve the best and the selection of 50 teas and wonderful food (for which I have asked the recipe for several times and was graciously accomidated by the chef herself). The real treat is dining on antique furniture that ust takes ones back in time to a more gracious era.

Tearoom Response
Judith, Thank you for your kind words.Yes those are true antique tables dating as early as 1850.What better way to savor the Victorian era. Thank you also for Chef Barbara. As a New York trained chef she has expanded the taste treats we offer.
