This tearoom has the best tea that I ever tasted. The food was wonderful and I have been there several times. It probably isn't a good idea to go if it is rainy because you are seating in an area that gets wind from the outside and the bathrooms are out in a small building around the corner. But, I loved it each time and the person who posted and said it was a bad experience because of the rain should really go back when it is sunny.

About 2 years ago 5 of my friends and I went to this tea room. It was a cold, rainy, windy day. I had called a head for a reservation. We were seated in the tent, near the wall and were frozen the entire time as the wall blew with the wind, letting in cold air and some small amount of rain.So much for climate controll. The small space heater did nothing for us. We were not given menus.I guess as I had said we were coming for afternoon tea we didn't get a choice. Service was extremely slow. My daughter asked for cream for her tea four times and still had not gotten it when we left. The food was skimpy. All of us went to another place to eat directly after we left the tea room. Also the bathroom was outside of the tent and main building in a small out building which meant you had to go out in the weather to use the facility. We all agreed that we would not recommend the place to anyone.

I'm from Virginia and love coming to the Carriage House (formerly Twinings) Tea Room in Cape May. Their Victorian Tea service with Harney and Sons teabags in your own teapot, plus salad or soup, a variety of tea sandwiches, fruit garnish, teabreads, scones, and clotted cream leaves me feeling relaxed and pampered. You can sip your tea inside the carriage room or outside under the climate controlled tent with a view of the gardens and fountains. Simply lovely!
