I took my nine year old niece, Betsy, to visit my grandmother, Nana, in Smithville. Nana knew that I had been having tea parties since I was a little girl and that Betsy also shared my joy of tea parties. Nana suggested that on our way back to Austin, we stop in Bastrop and check out Tanalee's Tea and Sympathy Tea Room. It was a delightful surprise to find this little oasis of calm and civility in Bastrop. The whimsical furnishings really impressed Betsy. The tea was superb as were the scones with clotted cream. Betsy wants to have her birthday party there with several of her girl friends all dressed up for a proper tea.
