  • The Potted Geranium

My sister and I celebrated our January birthdays with a delightful lunch at The Potted Geranium, in Greensboro, Ga. From an offering of 13 black teas, two green, one white, four herbal and one organic, she selected Orange Spice, and I had The Potted Geranium Blend, featuring a combination of vanilla and grenadine—with each of us served our own pot in its own cozy. Enjoying plenty of time for conversation, we eventually ordered unhurriedly: she had the 'Charleston,' quiche with a delicious, thick mushroom soup and a currant scone with jam and clotted cream; I had the 'Queen Mary,' breast-of-turkey salad with a Tuscan green salad (pine nuts, prosciutto, artichoke hearts, etc.) and currant scone. Her desert was a cream tart; mine was a cherry shortcake with a dollop of ice cream. Everything was made from scratch and so delicious that we ate as slowly as possible to make it last. All of this was enjoyed in elegant surroundings in a beautifully restored old home. For what we got and how much we enjoyed it, the price was quite reasonable. The Potted Geranium is a special place well worth a day trip, situated in beautiful old Greensboro, Georgia just on the edge of downtown.
