The English Rose Tea Room and Gifts
I will not be returning to this establishment. Wait service is good, professional and knowledgable, food was good, but the seating is cramped and uncomfortable. We had reserved a spot for 8 people to enjoy an early afternoon tea this past weekend, six from in town and 2 were my fiancee's aunts that were flying in from Boston-we were to be celebrating one their birthdays there. They were supposed to come in form Boston on Friday but, due to the snow storm, their flight was CANCELLED and they would not be able to make it for their yearly visit til much later, including this tea that Saturday. We still had the reservation and didn't want to bail out entirely because we had to give a cc number (over 6) so we went and explained what happened to whom, i think, is the owner of this place. My mother asked if she would still charge us for 8 and she was told yes-those were the rules. I found the answer unacceptable and went back to bring this issue up again and was responded with wishy washy 'well, the cook make food for that many people' and 'of course i understand...' who knows what else she said-but being a CHRISTIAN place- i thought she understood and would realize this was not a happy, preventable time for us and not charge us for it too. My soon to be mother-in-law ended up paying for all 8 services. They gave us a doggy bag full of food we had already had enough of. In a way i'm glad it was only six of us sitting at the 'large seating' because that was very cramped as was-imagine all 8! Fitting all our 'queens tea' orders on the table was like trying to work a puzzle-move one peice so the other fits. And the only tea service choice you have on the weekends is the 'queens tea', which is of course the most expensive. By the end of the sitting I found it overdone and was completely soured on the whole experience. I will not be returning-I found this experience extremely hypocritical.
