Pacific Dining Car
We had always been curious about the Pacific Dining Car as we live practically down the street. And when we discovered they had tea time we decided to give it a try! The atmosphere there is elegant but I still felt comfy in my finest pair of denim. I had read the website, and wasn't sure what to expect from the mysterious non-descriptive menu but was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. To start off, you get a choice champagne or sherry. I chose champagne, because hey it champagne! And then you choose from 5 types of tea, which is disappointing if you had just been to Chado in Pasadena which offers over 200 different kinds of tea. We chose the Darjeeling & Jasmine, finding them both nice. The food is brought out to you one course at a time. The first plate is 3 kinds of open-faced sandwiches which were salmon, cucumber and ham. In the middle was cheese to spread on, which I think is nice considering how everyone is lactose-intolerant these days. Next course was a raisin scone (I hate raisins!) with jam, cream & butter. I managed to deal with it by very delicately picking the raisins out as I ate bit by bite hehe. And then hiding them all under the lil piece of scone I had left. haha so ladylike eh? The finale was an assortment of sweets including an actual big slice of cheese cake. Which I thought was a lil strange to have with the other miniature sweets of a strawberry petit, lemon cookie, chocolate-covered strawberry, and chocolate tart. Overall it was a splendid time and the staff was very sweet. It's worth it to see the inside of this fun restaurant which does resemble a dining car. But I don't know if I'll be back for tea as I like more of a selection.
