This place gives you a true feeling of serenity. It's an escape from the stresses of everyday life. The atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant. The food is outstanding, wit a good mix of textures and flavors that balance beautifully. The servers are so polite. It's always hard to leave such a lovely place.

This was a perfect setting for my daughter's baby shower! The site is lovely, and the food was both delicious and plentiful. All of the guests were impressed. Service was a little slow, which caused our event to run overtime a little, but they had a bustling business that day, in addition to our party. I think this speaks to the popularity of the place! Thank you to all who made my daughter's special event even more special!

Today, I had the lovely pleasure of visiting this tearoom with my girlfriends. Absolutely, you can not miss the building--because its ROYAL PURPLE. This tearoom blew my mind, it was spacious, a vast amount of natural lighting and the mood was soothing. This tearoom has set the tone by enchanted music playing softly in the background. Honestly, this was a lovely touch because you couldn't hear other guests conversations. The variety in high teas is creative. Beyond the variety of teas, your able to select your scone and jam/curd flavor. Definitely, my party will be back--we have featured scones to taste!!!

On November 4th I had the pleasure of going with friends to Blanche Henry's lovely tearoom at her new location: Serenity Tea Room and Fine Dining in Frederick MD. Our Afternoon High Tea was amazing. The ambiance was indeed serene, charming tea related accents, beautiful paintings and of course her signature purple color throughout. Our endless pots of tea selections were perfect: Buckingham Palace Garden Party, Caramel (too wonderful), Serenity's 4 Tea Blend ( great blend of 4 black teas) . The tea scones were delicious to the last bite and the sweet potato amazing. The soup of the day, butternut squash was so good, we took some home with the scones. Teas are available for purchase . The array of tea sandwiches were a delight. The service was incredible, it was an experience to remember and repeat.

My family was well pleased with our exceptional dining experience at Serenity Tearoom and Fine Dining. The food was amazing and quite honestly, above comparison to some of the other fine dining experiences that we have had throughout our travels in the United States and abroad. They were also very accommodating to my gluten-free dining needs. We had a party of five people and each ordered a different entree. all of the food was very good, especially the jerk salmon with braised kale, coconut risotto, and mango salsa (my new favorite)! There was a large assortment of tea. my favorite was the signature strawberry tea. The desserts were very good as well. In addition to the great food, we were very pleased with the service and atmosphere. It was warm and inviting. The owner even took the time to engage us. sincerely thanking us for coming. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to other family and friends and we will gladly return whenever we are in the state of Maryland or Washington DC area.

As a special combined treat for my birthday and Mothers' Day, my daughter surprised me with an outing to Serenity Tearoom (a first visit for both of us). We were warmly greeted by the owner upon our arrival. She also took the time with us to to note some tea-related items in the gift shop, then showed us to our beautifully appointed window table. The seating was comfortable, the tables were spaced with plenty of room in between, and the room, itself, was bright with lots of natural light provided by several windows. We had a choice of 65 teas (served hot or iced) to accompany our Afternoon Tea food selections. Our Afternoon Tea selection included six delicious finger sandwiches, two bread selections (including scones!) served with a variety of spreads, and four (or was it five?!) scrumptious desserts. There were many choices available in each food category, and I must say, there were no disappointments in our selections! The service was efficient without being intrusive. Our teapots were refilled when needed. And our needs were checked on several times. The staff was friendly, extremely competent, and very professional. I enjoyed the entire experience so much that I have already asked my daughter for the very same gift next year! Well done, Serenity Tearoom! We will be back.

We visited the Tearoom for a celebration of my Granddaughter's 20th birthday. It was so nice to be able to pick a tea for yourself. The choices were numerous with descriptions of each tea. The food was delicious and the portions were generous and the staff very attentive. The tearoom was cozy and inviting and just what a tea room should be. It was colorful in having different place settings for everyone. Definitely a place you would want to go back again. Thank you Blanche for making it a very memorable celebration.

I went to serenity team room today for my bridal shower. I couldn't have picked a better place. The service was amazing and the food was even better. My party of four enjoyed high tea. Everything was fresh and delicious. The variety of tea was great. We each had several different pots. I will be going back in the future.

We visited Serenity Tea Room as a party of 2 on a Thursday afternoon. The food was excellent and high quality and the service was very attentive. Blanche herself came to speak with us and explain how everything worked. We also loved that we could switch teas once a teapot was done, allowing us to sample different flavors. Lovely place!

On this day Sat. April 11, 2015, I and a group of ladies of 19 had a wonderful fellowship morning at Serenity Tearoom in Frederick. MD. It was the first visit for us and we had a beautiful time at this establishment with A service, hospitality, and meals. The atmosphere was perfect, peaceful, and enjoyable. We were greeted with smiles and warmth from the owner and her staff. I will highly recommend this tearoom and will return again. Thank you for your service.

We celebrated my five year old's birthday tea at Serenity Tearoom this past weekend with a party of 8. It was so delicious even for a five year old. The owner served us personally to make sure every order was individualized and accurate. Food sensitivities were even addressed. The place is quaint and decorative. The options are endless. You will not go home hungry.

This tea room is bright and sunny as well as easy to locate. Parking is great in a near by parking garage. Ms. Blanch makes an added attempt to provide food that people with food allergies can eat if she is aware of these needs in advance. This makes Serenity Tea room an excellent choice for me.

I would highly recommend this tearoom and plan on returning with more friends.

Just when I found a tea room that was the best I have ever been to, I find a even better one. This has been my 7th tea room that I have been to in the MD/WV/VA/PA area since my move from Richmond 5 months ago and is the best tea room I have been to! The food is by far the most delicious I have had since traveling to tea rooms across the mid-atlantic area! The sweet potato scones with maple spread and maple cream are to die for! Blanche, who is the owner, is a gracious and warm host. She makes her customers feel so welcome and has warm hugs for her regulars. If you visit her tea room, you will definitely be a repeat customer. Highly recommended and a must visit!

I came to Frederick Maryland with my husband on a business trip. and while he was at work during the day I did much sight seeing in the area but this by far was the best of my experiences! It was my first time having High Tee and I can not recall when I have had a more relaxing and delightful time. The teas and food were very delicious and the setting is very elegant. This is the best place we have had tea and that includes England and Canada! My husband and I started taking my Granddaughter 4 years ago when she first came home from college in California. It has now become tradition and she is now finished college and back in the area, so we will be enjoying Blanche's beautiful tea room and service more often.

Attending the Mother's Day Tea at the Serenity Tearoom has become a tradition for my daughter, mother and me. The food was very beautifully prepared and fantastic as usual, we love the butternut squash soup! There are so many tea flavors it's always difficult for us to choose. Blanch is a very warm and friendly person making the day very special for us. We highly recommend either attending one of the special teas (Valentine's Day, Mother's Day or Christmas) or enjoying one of the afternoon teas (afternoon, high or royal) that are available everyday. You won't be disappointed!

Serenity is the number #1 of all Maryland and Virginia. I have been to many tea rooms searching for the best and THIS IS THE BEST! From the butternut squash soup that was super hot, enjoyed every spoonful of such great flavor. Not be missed! Savories and sweets all created on the premises. Excellent. You are missing a great experience if you not have come here. Should be on your bucket list. The largest selection of teas...the blood orange tea was amazing. The owner is charming and gracious. While the tea, food and atmosphere are all stellar what struck me most was the service. I went with my mom and two aunts. After three visits they knew my aunt by name and asked how her work was going. They even remembered my mom and I from one visit more than a year before. They greeted my other aunt and commented that they were always excited to have a new customer. We will be going back on a regular basis. Perfect for a girls' day out.

I have been coming to the Serenity Tea Room for the past 5 years. It has become a tradition of mine to treat myself to a Traditional High Tea after visiting the doctor for my annual physical exam. 5 stars all around for this cozy, polished tearoom. Angel was very knowledgeable regarding the tea selection and helped us make great choices. We received perfectly brewed teas in small plain pots which we then enjoyed drinking from a fantastic variety of cups that the owner has collected over many years ~ beautiful presentation. My cold strawberry soup was outstanding. The finger foods allowed us to taste a variety of textures and flavors that were chosen carefully so that each morsel complements another ~ well balanced. Almost all of the food is prepared fresh, on premises. I highly recommend Serenity.

We loved the selection of teas and the quality of food and drink. The pastries were particularly nice. Service left something to desire. It took a long time to get tea to our table. I think it's the individual pots. I would rather share a large pot (or two) at the table than have to wait so long for all the individual pots. I was also a little put-off by the litany of reasons for potential fees that my credit card risked if any of my friends decided not to show or changed their mind about what they wanted for tea. (You have to make your menu selection in advance.) Although it's probably personal preference, I didn't like the idea of 'seating' times. Having to arrive at a certain hour, receiving slow service and then being rushed out (albeit nicely...with to go cups) took away from the experience. Overall, this was a very nice tea house with superior food/tea quality. With a few tweaks in the service concept it would be a nearly perfect experience.

'Excellent' expresses it all and describes my third experience at Serenity Tearoom in Frederick MD. Our hostess, the owner, was warm, welcoming and gracious. She was so in touch with each of our needs, which included 8 guests and one with special dietary needs. The menu was beautifully developed, described, prepared and served. Of note are the butternut squash soup, the cranberry orange scones with Key Lime curd, and the selection of tea sandwiches. Oops, don't forget the beautifully presented tea desserts! If you seek a beautifully delivered afternoon tea in the Frederick MD area, please consider Serenity Tearoom.

I took my friend to Serenity Tea Room as a Christmas present and we had a delightful time. I'm a vegetarian and they checked with me when I made the reservation, so they would be prepared. The food was delicious. The one soup was not to my tastes and I politely passed on it. The proprietor was extremely kind and took it off of my bill. Lovely experience.

I just got home from having a birthday tea at Serenity Tearoom with 7 friends. It was PHENOMENAL. Blanch, the owner, is charming and personable and really takes the time to explain the food and tea selections to you. My party and I had the traditional high tea, which was $37.00 per person. This price included tax and gratuity. The food was to die for! I had the butternut squash soup and I've never had better. Creamy and seasoned perfectly. The hubby had the white chicken chili and is still talking about how good it was. Each of the tea sandwiches were perfectly presented and had an astonishing amount of filling, considering they are finger sandwiches. The star of the show, however, were the scones. Like most of the food served at Serenity, they are made from scratch everyday. I had the house special English Golden Raisin with clotted cream and lemon curd. It was the most moist and delightful scone I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Hubby had the January feature scone, Cranberry Orange. He topped his with clotted cream and the house-made key lime curd. I've never seen him enjoy a baked good more! All of the other high tea foods, such as the bread and tarts showed the same amount of care in preparation and were just as tasty. For my birthday, they even surprised me with a special dessert! The highlight of the evening was the tea. Unlike most tea rooms where you must stick to your original tea selection for refills, Blanch allows each pot to be a different flavor. I started with the Buckingham Palace Garden Party which is a blend of Earl Grey and Jasmine teas. Amazing. My second pot was the Valentine's Blend, black teas combined with Swiss chocolate and roses. Others at my table at different varieties and all really enjoyed their choices. Blanch offers an astounding variety of choices for teas. I believe there were at least 40 on the menu. Serenity also has an in-house retail shop where you can purchase all of her fine teas and many tea accessories. As we left, Blanch thanked me repeatedly for allowing her to help celebrate my birthday. You can tell she really loves her business, heart and soul. The girls and I have decided Serenity Tearoom will be a monthly occurrence. The food and hospitable atmosphere are too lovely to only enjoy occasionally.

A friend took me to the tearoom on Saturday. We just wanted to have tea and scones. Unfortunately, their dining room was full but they prepared and packaged everything for us to go. The owners are fabulous and the service was terrific. We took our delightful bundles down by the creek and enjoyed our treats. I had the sweet potato scone with a walnut cream topping - IT WAS HEAVEN!!!! My tea was warm and delicious. I didn't know about the Serenity Tearoom before Saturday but I will now be a lifelong customer.

My husband and 4-year old daughter took me to Serenity Tearoom for my birthday. Serenity Tearoom is simple and very friendly. It does not have that stuffiness or pretentiousness sometimes found at other tearooms. Serenity Tearoom offers a wide selection of teas. My husband, who is not an avid tea drinker like me, loved the hazelnut vanilla tea. The food is homemade and delicious - really enjoyed the butternut squash soup. The owner, Blanch Henry, served us and she was very personable. She was so accommodating to our daughter. She was an absolutely lovely lady. If you get the chance, you have to meet her. It was superb service - including the added artistic birthday treat at the end. The only negatives I have is that the dining room can be a little noisy and the sight of paper napkins can be a little off-putting; but the overall experience was lovely - very comparable to british tearooms, such as Auntie's Tea Shop in Cambridge (visited in 1996).

It was a very good experience; however, there should be more savory offerings a fewer sweets. In a normal meal, the ratio is not 50-50. I would have preferred 70% savory and 30% sweet.

I am from New York and have also spent much time in Ireland and England, The Serenity Tearoom would easily become a popular gathering place in any of these areas. The selection, and high quality, of the tea served is wonderful, plus it is prepared in the proper manner which is so important in ensuring a pure taste. The tea sandwiches, the scones, and the sweets were all sheer delights. This is a tearoom that is not to be missed! The Links Divas, from Gettysburg, PA, all had a serene, and sublime, experience.

The first tea place I ever went to was a Jane Austen tea room in England, so America had a lot to live up to after that. The Serenity Tea Room would have lived up to Austen's expectations. Dozens and dozens and dozens of tea options. This experience was fabulous. My mom and I visit tea rooms as often as our schedules allow, and this tea room was by far our favorite. My grandmother joined us, and we were celebrating birthdays and our wonderful mothers for Mother's Day. I can't imagine a better way to spend such a special time of year. The soups were cold-- I had cucumber, my mom had mixed fruit and my nana had strawberry. We sampled each and loved them ALL. The tea variety was extensive, and the smaller pots allowed you to sample other teas. I enjoyed a spiced plum with the meal and went with a more subtle vanilla roobois for dessert (I dipped the pecan cookie in it and could have DIED!) The food is the best I've had, the tea variety and option for different types and the staff made this such an enjoyable day. Now that I live in Frederick, we will definitely be returning! Blanche left her tearoom in great hands as her daughter impressed us with her friendliness and love for what she was doing. Lovely day!!

We went here the weekend after mothers' day, with my mom and sister. We used to work in an excellent tea room together, so we have high expectations. We were sat in a small front room with approximately 10 other diners around us. Because of the size of the room, hardwood floors, and how close we were sat to each other it was hard not to hear others conversations. Once our tea menu had been explained, they did turn the classical music up a bit so that this wasn't as much of an issue. Decor is a little plain and could add more to the atmosphere. The teacups and plates were fine china and very nice, however, we did use paper napkins and for tea I am used to seeing cloth, just a simple nice touch that can go a long way. We had the high afternoon tea, which includes soup. The soups were all cold this day and we each chose the strawberry, very good! Tea was also excellent, served in pots small enough that you didn't get sick of your flavor before starting another, but big enough to share if wanted. Pots of tea did take a bit longer than expected to arrive at the table when refills were requested, typically 10 minutes. All of the food was absolutely wonderful, perfect bite sized portions but we were full when we left. My favorite item was the pesto tomato biscuit, yum, I could eat any entire bag of those things if they would make them for me! Scones were very tasty as well and I recommend eating these first, as they are served warm. Teamsids were very attentive and friendly and seemed to be hustling around to meet everyone's needs in a timely fashion. Once done with tea, there were plenty of cute shops and an antique mall across the street to fill the rest of our afternoon with. Overall, this has been the best tearoom I have been to since being employed at another tearoom that has since closed its doors. The food was superb, and the only thing left to be desired was a better atmosphere. As we were leaving I saw a back patio area with tables that we would like to try next time. It might lend itself to a little more privacy and not quite as much background noise. Plus, I love having tea in gardens. :) We will be going back!

We have taken tea in fine hotels in Canada and many tea rooms in England. Some may have been more elegant, but none any better than this offering. Tea selection and food outstanding; great variety and quality. Knowledgeable, welcoming, caring staff. They had just sold out of one kind of scone so apologized that it would take a little extra time to get them, as more were baking. Some places would have just told you, sorry, we don't have that one! We will visit Serenity whenever we are in Frederick! Tip: if you like a good black tea blend, their Royal Court is marvelous.

My 3 sisters and I had the privilege of taking tea at the Serenity Tea Room last weekend. The food was incredible! I had a Key Lime Scone with Key Lime Curd that was amazing! There was an ample amount of sandwiches for everyone. Each person was able to choose their own pot of tea. Two hours seemed just about the right amount of time for our tea. Blanch was interested in our group and was a great hostess. My only complaint was that the tea room had an odor that was unpleasant. By the time we left, it seemed to have disappeared, but it was very noticeable upon first arriving. It did not keep me from enjoying one of the best teas I've had in a long time. My three sisters and I enjoyed an afternoon here last weekend. The seating was a little tight for a more 'robust person' as myself. The food was delicious and the items were varied, but complimented each other. The choice of teas was great also. My only complaint is that we ran out of cream during our tea and it was a while before we saw anyone to ask for a refill, by which time my pot of tea went cold. I come to visit my children from New York City. It has become kind of 'my thing' to take my granddaughter, daughter-in-laws and mother in-law to tea. It is such a special treat for all generations. It's so far removed from today's fast paced, fast food style, taking one back to quieter more genteel days. The food is fabulous, the teas exquisite and service personal in a quiet, comfortably artistic setting. I come back every time to reset my clock and enjoy 'girl' time. I apprediate the personal service, from a woman who knows and loves her teas, who takes pride in her quality of presentation. I will come back again, and again.

I recently attended a birthday celebration at the Serenity Tea Room. The sandwiches and sweets were fine. I think that people have different expectations about 'going out for tea'. When I go for tea, I want an elegant setting with beautiful atmosphere and serving pieces. Although the room is somewhat tranquil, I think that they could really step it up to become a more elegant tea salon. The servers should all be in uniforms, the table cloths should be more elegant, the tea pots should be more elegant, etc. And the bathroom---a total make over is required.

We found Serenity Tearoom by accident and just walked in to a wonderful experience. The food and service are as good as any high tea I have had in a tearoom or at a fine hotel. The selection and knowledge of tea was awesome. The food was mostly homemade and the scones were the best ever. You won't be disappointed by the experience or the gracious service.

I have been to several tearooms in different locations in Maryland. This tearoom is my favorite by far! Over 85 teas to choose from, and the teapot is bottomless. You can choose as many different teas that your belly can handle! The food portions were beyond expectations and were scrumptious! The owner and staff were absolutely delightful. Will travel the 3 hours again (each way) just to experience the ambiance of this tearoom!

We were not impressed with this tea room. We had an 11 am. reservation and had to wait ouside on a chilly day for them to open the doors and not a minute early either. Unususal for our experiences of a tea room. The one server, who we believe to be the owner-Blanche was not very pleasant. Pricey and the food was not the best. Unlike other reviews as I have seen. Maybe we looked at her wrong????!! We will not return. Gail

Going to Serenity for high tea was a peerless experience. From the outside, it is a business. Once you walk inside and meet Blanche, she treats you like you are in her home. The food is presented well and tastes even better! The selection of teas is outstanding and it is difficult to choose which one to sample, so I highly recommend getting the endless tea to taste from as many teas as you like! I cannot recommend Serenity enough, Blanche is a business owner when you enter, a friend when you leave.

Blanche called me at home the night before we arrived to celebrate my mother's 92nd birthday. She was friendly and welcoming. Her friendliness and approachable manner continued when we arrived. She clearly explained our wonderful choices and described several possible tea choices. The servers were polite and positive. The food was DELICIOUS and beautifully presented. We spent at least 2 hours enjoying ourselves and have a totally wonderful time. Thank you very much for a relaxing and pleasant afternoon tea.

A wonderful, extensive selection of whole leaf teas brewed to perfection and presented in attractive pots. We always enjoy their delicious food(best scones and tea sandwiches in the area!)and conversation over at least two varieties of teas. My wife and I very much enjoyed this tearoom and Blanch herself. I particularly endorse the review by Moore dated 10/31/10. We found the food quality excellent, and a very extensive tea list to choose from. We particularly favor named estate teas and chose Assam Behora - a first for us and very good. The leaf itself was not stale and lifeless as I have found it can be at tearooms which serve black teas to very few customers - it was fresh, and properly brewed with water at the boiling point - a critical matter for the black tea lover. I purchased some of this tea before leaving, It has a pleasing woodsy/floral bouquet late on the palate which I have not experienced before with an Assam. Our visit was indeed serene because the tearoom was uncrowded - when filled with ladies in a celebratory mood, what then?

Over the last 6 years, I've visited Serenity Tea Room several times. In August, I was fortunate enough to travel to England and Scotland and had tea and scones several places. I had been especially looking forward to The Pump House in Bath, England. The room was very elegant and the afternoon tea was special, but NOWHERE did I taste scones as good as Blanche's at Serenity...I know a review is subjective, but one need travel no further than Serenity Tea Room in Frederick, to have the Very Best Scones!

My Red Hat Group, 'The Chesapeake Chicks' went to the Serenity Tea Room on Thursday May 5th. Here is my expectation and my experience at Serenity in Frederick: 1.) Excellent loose tea brewed in a ceramic teapot holding 3 cups of perfectly steeped tea. 2.) Bone china tea cup and saucer with a small teaspoon just the right size to stir neatly. 3.) A tiered presentation of savory tea sandwiches and canapes as well as sweet custard cups and small cookies and fruit cups. 4.) Comfortable chairs and tables with adequate space between and fresh flowers in vases on each table. 5.) An exceptionally clean and interesting lady/gents (it serves both) room that has all you need to freshen up. Above and beyond my expectations was the retail section where I was able to purchase my favorite tea of the 3 pots I tried. The music was at just the right volume and the selections perfect for a serene tearoom experience. I will be back most definitely with friends and family.

I have lived all over the country and seek out tea rooms where ever I live. I moved to Virginia a year and half ago and have been searching for a tea room. I have been to several in Virginia and Maryland and this tea shop is a dream come true and huge blessing! From the minute you walk in the door the smell of tea and fresh baked goods greets your senses. Blanche and the other woman made me feel right at home. Everything was perfect, the decor was beautiful, the food spectacular, the tea amazing. The food is made from scratch and are items you can't easily make at home. I've said it many times and will say it many, many more - This is the BEST tearoom I've EVER been too. I've had tea all over the world including the British Isles and China, but nothing tops Blanche and her Serenity Tearoom. My mom, grandmother and I go at least once a month. We are always warmly welcomed, never rushed, have the best time (food, tea and social-wise), and leave feeling happy and relaxed. The tea selection keeps me picking at least one new tea each time I go..and if I can't make up my mind, Blanche and her girls have never failed at surprising me with an excellent cuppa. The food is not only tasty, but artfully done. If you get the chance to experience one of the special event teas, go for it! Not only do you get a wonderfully delicious meal, but you get a tea cup and saucer to remember the experience. If you're going to be near Frederick, don't pass this gem of a tea sanctuary up!

My Best friend took me to Serenity Tearoom for my Birthday. What a special treat. The room is sunny and airy with views of the street. Attractive furniture and decor lend a serene feeling to the room. The Teas are described by the owner/hostess Wwe made our choices and in a few minutes we were served. The staff is clearly well trained and knew the proper method of pouring and serving. Teas are loose whole leave. Food is delicious and beautiful! We were taken care of but never rushed if fact we were encouraged to take our time. I took advantage of the tea accouterments room and purchased 2 oz of the tea I had. I also purchased a unusually beautiful English tea for one pot which was packaged delightfully. I will be returning and I'm not waiting for my birthday!

My daughter and I hosted a bridal tea for her best friend at Serenity Tearoom. The food was excellent. Miss Blanche, as always prepared the freshest, most wonderful sandwiches and savories as well as desserts, including strawberries specially decorated for the occasion. Everyone enjoyed their teas as well, which were brewed correctly and strained before being brought to the table. One of the guests stated it was as nice a tea as any she had had at the Savoy in London.

This is the best tea room I've been to yet (and I used to live in England). They not only offer an endless pot of tea, with the option of switching to another kind of tea once you've emptied your pot, but they prepare it properly -- steeped and the tea removed before they bring you a full pot! And I like my tea strong. The food was beyond delicious, particularly the cashew chicken salad, a thick paste that was incredibly flavorful in a tiny pastry shell. On learning that my companion was vegetarian, they cheerfully substituted more crostini and egg-salad sandwiches for the two meat sandwiches. The scones were feather-light and hot out of the oven, the peach and mixed-berry jams tasted of fruit rather than of sugar (although we'd have liked a dab more of the jams). The service was excellent, the atmosphere lovely and relaxing. I can't rate this place highly enough.

When taking tea at the Serenity Tea Room you can expect impeccable service. The tea menu is extensive and the food looks and tastes FRESH! The scone was so moist and tasty. I did need more curd, it was lacking. Soft classical music will not drown your conversation. Mrs. Henry, the Proprietress, is very knowledgeable of the teas that are on the tea menu. PET-PEEVES: I do not like paper napkins at Tea Time it makes me feel like I am at a picnic. And although there is the bottomless pot you MUST consume all of your tea from your first order. I would/have recommended this lovely tea room.

When in Frederick, after a morning/afternoon of shopping, afternoon tea at Serenity Tearoom is the BEST way to reward yourself. In fact, use Serenity Tearoom as an excuse to go to Frederick! You won't be disappointed with the shops. You'll find new, old, antique, cutting edge. And parking costs only $1 on a Saturday (and it is conveniently located behind all the shops and near Serenity Tea). Serenity Tea is unique....the most 'English' style of tearoom you'll find...Washington DC doesn't have a place like this!

Approximately 4 weeks ago, my daughter and I enjoyed a very tasteful, beautifully presented tea experience in a warm and lovely environment. The several course tea began with a refreshing pomegranate drink; included a delicious fruit medley of cold soup, a fresh salad with flavorful dressing,a variety of tea sandwiches, yummy scones, and fabulous desserts. The food was definitely worth the long wait (approx. 45 min.); but I would have preferred that my daughter have something to eat during the soup and salad portion of my meal. However, the pleasant atmosphere, attentive staff (particularly in accommodating my daughter's peanut allergy), and relaxing hot tea, made the wait tolerable. Overall, the experience was fabulous and we will certainly travel again from Harrisburg, PA to Frederick, MD (approx. 60 miles)for a Royal Tea at Serenity Tearoom.

Oh. My. This place was absolutely fantastic. In the heart of Historic Downtown Frederick, it's a cozy little tearoom in a refurbished apartment. There are a couple of businesses on the second floor, but that does not detract from the peace that entering Serenity gives. Victorian style, take out the almost unnoticable electronics and it's a drop back into the 1880's. The food is amazing, just like the tea. The pastries nearly made me cry they were just that good. I recommend Serenity tearoom as one of the places to go before you die.

I had a lovely time at Serenity Tearoom on a recent Saturday afternoon. Serenity allows patrons to choose from 60+ teas. If you choose to have high tea, afternoon tea or royal tea the teas is all you can drink. I tried the raspberry and one of the green teas, my spouse had the earl gray and one of the oolong. We were both very happy. The location and atmosphere are relaxing. I suggest you make a reservation because it looks like it can get tight on a busy day. I usually visit Teavana in the mall, I think I'm going to start stopping in Serenity's retail shop.

My niece and a friend and I enjoyed a delightful 'Royal Tea' experience on June 26, 2010. The atmosphere was soothing and intimate (small but not cramped); the food was dee-lish; and the tea was flavorful. We each had our own pot of tea, which I love in a tearoon. I liked that the food was not overly garnished (it was all attractive and presented in a lovely way), so there was no waste. I agree with Blanch -- too many garnishes add to the cost of the meal. The mixed berry soup was topped with a blueberry and a strawberry slice -- perfect and oh, so good! The mango French sorbet had a mint leaf and a blueberry -- again, just enough. The warm Brie tart was yummy; the salad was very pretty (and good, too), and I was glad the strawberry was dipped in milk, not dark, chocolate! All of the food was lovely and flavorful. I appreciated Blanch's personal attention to each guest/table and the fact that she asked our opinions on the food items. Oh, yes, she's definitely from the South! What a great sense of humor, too! The staff members were polite and proper (they came around to the side of the table with the items and didn't just hand them across the table); little things do make the difference! Good training goes a long way. At no time did we feel rushed; indeed, we were the last group out. Blanch, you definitely have the perfect personality/demeanor to be a tearoom hostess/owner. Congratulations on reaching the big 5-year milestone, and keep up the good work. Blessings to you and your staff and family.

I truly enjoyed my experience at the Serenity Tea Room. The atmosphere was calm and there was soothing music softly playing in the background. There were 9 of us celebrating my sister's 60th Birthday. Blanche was quite engaging and we spent some time chatting with her. The teas, we sampled hot and cold were excellent. There was such a variety of teas to choose from. The savories were my favorites. The scones were very delicious and a nice size too. The lemon curd and the strawberry toppings were my favorites. I enjoyed everything, but I must say that the egg salad sandwiches could have used just a little more flavor for me. The goodies were out of this world. Those pecan cookies were the best! On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the best), I would rate this tearoom a 9.5. Keep up the good work ladies! Party of 9 06/13/10

The Serenity Tearoom was the destination for my birthday celebration by my daughters. Our experience was delightful. The tearoom was bright with sunshine as was the welcoming style we were greeted and served. The Victorian interior instantly puts one into the tearoom frame of mind. What a delightful place for tea and lunch! I had out of town visitors and we stopped in for the afternoon tea and high tea selections. We enjoyed the huge variety of teas. The butternut squash soup was fantastic (we tried to convince Blanch to give us the secret ingredients...with no luck!) The scones, the jams, the sandwiches all added wonderful pairings with the teas. Blanch was wonderful to talk with us and make our 'tea' experience very personal. I went with my friend and her hubby for her birthday. The menu was explained very well nad there were several choices between creams, scones, toppings and soups. This is real southern food - the seafood soup has a flair and the butternut squash was creamy and came with a pad of butter melting inside. The fruit on the tarts were fresh and the sides, like key lime curd and strawberry jam where delciious. Everything was wonderful and we had great service. The best part is the owner, she was warm and friendly, and you can see this business is her passion. Visit their Website - it tells her story. Thanks so much for a wonderful b-day gift.

I was organizing a ladies outing for some friends and came across the Serenity Tearoom. So I made the reservation and we were on our way. We were so excited when we walked into the quaint tearoom that was so warm and inviting. Our expectations were exceeded in every way. The tea selection was phenomenal. There were the typical loose leaf selections that we all have come to love like Earl Grey and English Breakfast, but they also had many nontraditional selections for the adventurous. I there were over 60 teas to choose from. The scones, finger sandwiches, and desserts were so scrumptious. All made from scratch I will add. This was the best tasting clotted cream I have ever had. We chose the high tea option with soup which was so delicious. All my friends were so impressed as they had not had a tearoom experience before. I am so happy that their first tearoom experience was so memorable. Thank you so much we will definitely be back. This is the way a tearoom should be.

I particularly liked the 'endless pot per customer' policy, as it allowed us to choose teas without having to argue over which to share. I visited Serenity with a group of moms and we had a lovely time. Not only was the food delicious, it was BEAUTIFUL! The teas (I had hot cinnamon spice and scottish breakfast) were lovely as well. One of the moms had a valentine tea (with chocolate and floral notes) and it was delicious as well and very unique. I liked that we could choose to have different teas instead of only ordering one kind per person. The homemade jam was delicious and the cashew chicken salad was the most popular sandwich among our group. I am anxious to bring my female family members to afternoon tea. While there were men there as well, this place seems to evoke a truly feminine feel and experience. Definitely a nice place for a ladies day out. My only complaint was that it was very warm in the dining room, and drinking hot tea on top of that was a little uncomfortable. But it may have been so warm because the room was quite busy with customers. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time and were pleased to be able to take some of our tea experience home by purchasing items from the gift shop. Loose teas are very reasonably priced and the ladies who work there are so friendly and accomodating. Overall, a wonderful experience! Thank you Serenity Tea Room!

The background music contributed to the overall peaceful feeling. The hostess was most gracious. The food was delicious and plentiful. The squash soup was particularly notable. I especially enjoy the 'bottomless pot', as part of the experience for me is trying various types and flavors of tea which I have never had before. Best tearoom I've been to in YEARS! After our favorite tearoom shut down a few years ago, my mother and I thought we'd never be able to find a place that could live up to our expec'teas'ions. We tried a number of places in around Maryland, may were just snooty and hoity-toity. But after some searching we discovered, in our own backyard (of course), Serenity Tearoom. It was PERFECT. My mother and I plan to take at least one High Tea each month at Serenity Tearoom. What I loved best wasn't the AMAZING tea selection nor the WONDERFUL pastries, tea sandwiches, and other goodies. It was the EXCELENT service and atomosphere. The owner was our server for most of the tea and took the time to explain the tea and help us choose what WE would like not just what everyone else does. If you're ever in the Frederick area, even for the day, you have to go to Serenity Tearoom. You're missing a really unique and wonderful experience if you do not.

For those who've never been to tea before will think this tea room is great! For those like myself who have been to many tea rooms, know this tea room is sub-par. I have been to tea here 6 times. All 6 times the menu has been exactly the same. With all the seasonal ingredients Frederick has to offer, it's very disappointing when you sit down to the same meal each time. The food is good, but I would love to see the menu varied. Once when I was there the owner instead of going to around to each table, announced loudly to the whole room at once the menu for the day, making the tea time experience less than desirable. I would recommend this tea room but only for a one time visit.

I came all the way from Italy to have tea at the Serenity with my friend Cathy. We both enjoy tea a lot and because we cook and appreciate good quality food, we were really satisfied with our afternoon tea (great sandwiches and chicken cajou tarts, as well as sweets). Blanch is a very good person, devoted to her passion/work and she made me dream of having a place like that myself in Italy. She really deserves a visit and her tea selection is so good you won't be able to go home without buying some. I give Serenity my highest recommendation to anyone who wants a nice lunch or a pleasant afternoon tea.

Truely this is Maryland's best tearoom. All the food was excellent, particularly the sandwiches. We really liked having two each to enjoy. They were very fresh and savory tasting. The sweets were just right in number and size. The scones were perfectly prepared and went well with the strawberry/blueberry jam, clotted cream, and lemon curd. The atmosphere and service were excellent, inviting, and warm. All the personnel working at the Serenity Tearoom were very friendly and nice. The owner introduced herself and stopped long enough to chat with us, which we enjoyed and made us feel welcomed. Of course, the tea was wonderful and there was a huge selection of these loose lead teas. We liked the fact we could purchase some to take home.

My friend took me to the Serenity tea room for my birthday today. We had a lovely time sitting by the parlor window watching a school of five year old girls hold hand in hand as they walked down the street and we sipped our tea. I got the peach and ginger tea and was thrilled with the refined taste. I also had lunch which consisted of a unique chicken and cashew salad sandwich and pasta salad. For desert we each had one small carmel pecan tea cookie which was just enough to end a wonderful girl time meal with a friend. The people there are very friendly, but also knew when to let you sit and enjoy the time alone with a friend. I highly reccommend this lunch date with a good friend.

Serenity Tearoom is my husband and my favorite place to go for a relaxing and enjoyable time. It is always the place I ask to be taken on my birthday, anniversary or other special occasion. There is a large variety of loose tea to choose from. My husband and I both have favorites in the food category and I'll usually trade something with him because he almost always is too full to eat the scone, which is one of my favorite parts of the meal. For the past year Blanche has offered a choice of home made soups with tea, cold in the summer and hot in the winter, which has made the meal even more special. I find Blanche and her family and employees to be so warm and inviting, our day is really special when we go to tea. I always find everyone there very accommodating which I ask for something different. For example, you are allowed to have a different kind of tea for your second pot, and I usually choose something for dessert, like Strawberry black tea. One time, they were extremely busy and let the tea steep too long. Blanche would not serve it and remade the tea. Although I had time for one cup, I asked if I could take the rest as a carryout and she said yes because I had to wait so long. Those sort of little touches make the experience one to look forward to again. As to coming in late, I would never do that. I know that it takes about 1 1/2 hours for a good leisurely tea and she only has a short time to prepare between sittings.

Blanche & her staff are a delight and they served an authentic 'English' style tea. One of the first I have had in the US. Most places pretend to serve an 'English' tea but don't I wish they would be honest and say 'American' Blanche is honest even to the point of informing you that the cream is not English Clotted, ok in my book cause she's honest. You guessed it I am English and Betty's in the UK is the 'Teashop' I set the standards by. Blanche comes pretty close to perfection and her choice of teas is remarkable. Her soups really are home made and are out of this world. She's the tops in my book andI'd take anyone there for tea.

I have been fortunate enough to visit Serenity Tea Room a number of times over the past two years. I have taken many friends to celebrate special occasions and have NEVER been disappointed. My recent visit was a treat for my Birthday by my best friend, and we both enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing afternoon. Not only is there a very wide variety of fine teas offered, BUT, ALL the staff are familiar with each and every variety of tea and can make a recommendation based on your specific taste. We always leave feeling relaxed and pampered, not to mention, pleasantly full from the excellent, homemade food that is served so beautifully. Blanche, her family and staff, are always very pleasant, warm, and accomodating. I love that she addresees us by first name, making us feel like old friends who are being welcomed into her home. I would not hesitate to recommend Serenity to anyone, and can't wait to return. I make it a point to arrive ON TIME, so that staff can take proper care of us, and we have the time to relax and enjoy. Afterall, you would never arrive at a friend's home for dinner an hour late, how rude!! Can't wait to return.

My husband found out about this tearoom from teamaps. He called and reserved a table for valentines day and took me there to SURPRISE ME. We live in Maryland and drove a hour and a half to reach the Serenity Tearoom. I went in first while my husband parked the car. I was just looking about their little shop seeingif maybe there was an item I'd like to purchase. A lady (the owner?) asked me if I was the Tim and Linda party and I said yes. I had already told another person we had arrived. The next words from this ladies mouth just totally aleinated me. I knew nothing except I was being surprised for Valentines day. I was my husbands guest. The lady decided I needed to be set right on her businesses RULES of practice. I got lectured. BUT being so generious a person she would still seat me and give me 50 minutes to enjoy my serene tea expeience. The only thing we had to choose was our hot tea selection. 20 minutes later our items arrive. I had a whole 30 minutes to cram and guzzle my tea. I let our waitress know how badly I felt at having been lectured on my FIRSTBSURPRISE visit. I said we would not BE BACK and they would receive a negitive reveiw. The lecturing lady came ouut to smooth things over. I said I did NOT want to discuss it at all. I even go so far as to say leave me alone. She ignores me and then talks to my husband instead. WOW! Insulting me yet again. Not satisfied with her results she comes back and tries again a bit later. But this time she appoligizes. I finally feel like maybe she relizes you don't lecture your guests as soon as you meet them. Bad idea. And I begin to relax. Then she has the audacity to LECTURE me again BLAMING me for my dissatisfaction. Stating that I must have come in to her tearoom in a bad mood. I did not know anything about her business rules having NOT been the one to make the reservations. Apparently the 11:00 to 1:00 seating requires you to be SEATED before 11:30. I was put off by the overly familiar use of first names after having introduced myself as Mr and Mrs Pettit. Maybe using only my first name was to make me no my place? JUST a customer. Had the owner waited until we were paying our bill to appoligize for the poor first impression and let the excellent serving staff and perfect food do the job she is able to do. Delight and impress. But she had to have her way. Had to MAKE it better. The place is very fine and sells it self. She should learn to be gracious and flexible. I was on the sidewalk at 1:00. I made a point of OBEYING her edict. Other people were still relaxed and chatting when I left to wait for my husband to pay the bill. As for my mood. I go to tearooms and pay a premium price for tiny but beautiful food in a lovely setting to be PAMPERED and fussed over. We always tip at least 20%. I usually make a purchase from the shop if their is one. I expect to receive polite respect and differance. Friendliness and a 'so glad to ahve you here.' I am NOT being given a priveldge to have a seat at your tearoom and have you bring me your fares. YOU are their to win me over and to compete with all the other businesses out there ready to fuss and give great service. THAT IS MY FIRST IMPRESSION. Your attitude that you were going way out of your way to do me a favor and that I was to feel greatful to you for suffering so for putting up with my husband and I. Serenity Tearoom was a meeting place for a reunion of Mother and daughter, and Blanche, the owner, was accommodating for my baby daughter as well. It was not the perfect circumstance, since I was on vacation and did not have a babysitter--after my toddler broke a plate, Blanche was a perfect hostess. The tea selection is great. The historical setting is lovely, along with soothing ambient music. My only complaint would be for Serenity to welcome guests rather than scold them upon entering, to go to the correct room. First impressions are important.

Walking into Serenity Tearoom is like being immediately transported into an English countryside manor. My co-workers took me here in honor of my upcoming wedding and a relaxing time was had by all in spite of a music festival merely a block away. The variety of teas is amazing and the food is quite filling. The clotted cream is rich and wonderful. And the china is flat out gorgeous. My one word of caution has nothing to do with Serentiy; if you're not familiar with downtown Frederick make sure you're aware of when streets will be blocked off for special events as parking can be a bit of a hassle.

My only suggestion would be to have cloth napkins instead of paper napkins as it adds to the formality of what a tea should be. Her teacups were beautiful but the plates were so plain. A little more color on the table would have been delightful. Nonetheless, it was one of the best tearooms I have been to. The choice of teas was great, the food excellent along with the service.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful, leisurely High Tea on our first visit to Serenity Tearoom. We enjoyed ourselves immensely - everything from the lovely English ambiance to the attentive service. We found the tea expertly brewed (Darjeeling, Valentine blend, and Mango teas) and served. The scones were delicious - light and satisfying, not at all dense. Blanch was able to accommodate our vegetarian requirements by providing us with wonderful substitutes for the chicken dish. We each had a different soup (cucumber and strawberry), both of which were very refreshing. The pastries and savories were also delicious and we left very happy and full. The scones were so good, we bought some to take home! It was a pleasure to meet Blanch and experience her wonderful pampering - Thank you!

My daughter and daughter in law took my mother-in law, my friend, and myself to Serenity Tearoom for a delayed Mothers Day celebration. We were served in a nicely decorated room with many tea cups and glassware displayed. It was a very calm pleasing atmosphere with music in the background. We had a lovely time. The owner explained everything to us and when we had questions about teas at various times during our visit the other ladies were very knowledgeabe also. The sandwiches were delicious. Our favorite was the chicken salad. I loved the scones with the lemon curd (which was made on the premises)The clotted cream also was a favorite in our group. The desserts were very good with the chocolate covered strawberries and the pecan brownie being big hits!! All in all we had a great time. It was very leisurely and relaxing and I will definately go back!

My friend introduced me to Serenity Tearoom and I am so thankful. We visisted on Saturday and had a lovely time. From the moment we walked through the doors we were pampered. The aroma was out of this world. If you truly love tea, you need to visit. The elegance and the ambiance was calming; the name Serenity really fits! The tea was amazing! I had the strawberry iced tea. I was leaning towards a hot variety of a fruity tea, but the summer heat made my decision easier. We had a reserved table inside, but asked to be seated outside and were immediately led back the hallway a bit more to the outside seating area. How we enjoyed relaxing in the courtyard and having an afternoon without kids and everyday distractions. We were greated kindly and given the choice of two cold soups, Summer Melon and Cucumber. I chose the Cucumber and it was very good. It had a very fresh taste. Next we received a tray of food that I must say was artfully displayed. Cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad and egg salad made up the first plate, next were homeade scones and bread and at the top were chocolate covered strawberries, fruit tarts, and pecan topped bars. Homeade strawberry jam as well as lemon curd and cream accompanied. How delicious! We had a remarkable time and I am looking forward to returning.

There are 55 varieties of loose leaf tea available for purchase, 53 of which they will brew for your tea. The food was delicious (the scones were fabulous with lemon curd!) and dainty; in other words this isn't a gut stuffing meal and it is meant to be nibbled at delicately and not wolfed down. That said, I believe there is an a la carte menu if you are very hungry. I thought the portions were just perfect for a tea, you were comfortable without being stuffed which is nice especially if you were going to walk around afterwards and didn't want to feel sluggish. Service was warm and friendly. We loved it!

While on vacation in Frederick,Md I decided to vitit Serenity and was very pleased with the experience. Blanche explained the menu in detail and was very attentive to my needs. The Orange Spice tea was just right and the snicker doodles were exquisite. The three tier assortment of homemade chocolate covered strawberries, tea bread, english golden raisin scones, pastries and assorted tea sandwiches was wonderful. The atmosphere was relaxed and I had a great view of historical downtown right outside of the window. There are approximately 50 varieties of teas and the floral china makes the whole experience very appetizing. This is my second time visiting a tea house and I definetely believe it is better the second time around. Since this tea house is located in an older home right in the middle of historical Frederick, I was within walkinmg distance of museums and antique shops. I am planning to bring my mother to Serenity in the near future.

Although I have read the overwhelming number (100!) and favorable reviews for this one little tearoom, I must say, I question why it is #1. I not only felt there was a 'domineering under tone' by the staff member/server (owner?) when making the reservation, which necessitated several phone calls, but this approach was apparent even when taking tea. We agreed it did not add to a relaxing experience. Pleasant on the service was she, but 'instructions' and comments were unwelcoming. The artistry of the sandwiches were plain as English tea sandwiches are, but not as creative as I had hoped. The untraditional scone (biscuit) was delicious. The ambience of the room was charming/simple, but the brown teapot did not complement the table setting of fine, floral decor. Overall, it was an adequate experience, but one must question with so many favorable reviews, who is writing the reviews, Family and Friends? I will continue to go to Reynolds Tavern for a Colonial understated traditional Tea and Tea on the Tiber for a fine Victorian Tea experience.

Afternoon tea was a pleasure, with smooth, well-timed service in a warm, intimate setting. The food was delicious; I especially liked the egg salad sandwiches. One of their nice touches is that after you've finished your first pot, you can try a different kind for your next one! I look forward to doing this again soon. Last Friday a friend of mine and I celebrated her birthday at the Serenity Tearoom. We had a wonderful time. The owner greeted us warmly and made us feel very much at home. The room, the tables, music, decorations everything was tasteful and delightful. We had high expectations as we had noticed the number one rating when were choosing a tearoom, and we were not disappointed. There was a vast selection of teas to choose from-all loose leaf. The tea was brought to the table fully brewed and with the leaves removed so that the tea did not continue to steep and become bitter. The food was beautifully arranged on a three-tiered tray and tasted as good as it looked. I would definitely recommend the Serenity Tearoom to everyone and we both intend to visit again soon!

My Red Hat friends [twenty in number] from Sykesville, MD. were cheerfully greeted by owner,Blanch,on December 12,2007 in her charming Victorian style. Food was plentiful, though just ok. The cucumber sandwich had a slimy cucumber inside (seems like it may have been made the day before). Serenity Tearoom was a special place for a retirement tea with an enchanting victorian Christmas decor. Very large selection of tea choices available served in vintage teacups. Food was 98% made on site, chicken salad, scones, and homemade strawberry jam were favorites. Served with South Carolinan 'sweet service' A must go for afternoon tea!

This tearoom is one of the best I have ever been to. My friend treated me to a birthday celebration and it was delightful. We received a very warm welcome from the charming owner, Blanch. The tea and food was some of the best we have ever experienced, and consisted of delicious sandwiches, savories and sweets. The scones were the best, served warm with lemon curd and clotted cream – scrumptious. Blanch was attentive and made us feel special. We thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely visit….. this tearoom is definitely a “do-over”…..we loved it! Cathi, Reston, VA

We enjoyed deliciously and beautifully prepared tea sandwiches and the best, best raisin scones I have ever tasted. My friends and I visited Serenity Tearoom in September. We were looking for a special experience to help celebrate our reunion. This experience was what we were looking for! Everything was lovely! The atmosphere and the music were very pleasant. The food was excellent, and we could not finish it all. The selection of tea was huge. I had apricot and it was very fresh and delicious! Talking with Blanche, the owner, was especially nice. She found something in common with each of us. We also enjoyed making some purchases in the shop afterwards. It was definitely an A+ experience and reasonably priced too! I'd love to go again!

The food was plentiful, the tea excellent and the service was top notch. The tea sandwiches were great, especially the chicken salad. The scones with home made jam were YUMMY. And what more needs to be said about Chocolate covered strawberries and tiny fruit tarts. The variety at Serenity is excellent. Everyone should visit the Serenity Tea Room when in Frederick. A visit to The Serenity Tearoom will not disappoint. The setting is lovely, the tea selection is large (I especially enjoyed the large selection of decaf teas). The real gems for me at Serenity are the scones. As an experienced scone baker I found the scones truly outstanding. Also, after visiting many tearooms in the DC area I found the prices at The Serenity Tearoom very reasonable. This was my first 'tea' experience, and I loved it, but I thought it was extrememly overpriced. Maybe it's not compared to other places (I don't have any idea), but I was dismayed at how little was served for what we paid. I am originally from Maryland but now live in Florida. I come to Maryland every December for the Holidays because my family lives here. I have been wanting to visit the Serenity Tearoom since it openned up but for one thing or another never have gotten the chance. Finally, this year I was able to spend two months in MD and I made sure to make reservations. I visited the Serenity Tearoom on June 15 with my Mom and Aunt. What a WONDERFUL experience!!! I love hosting my own Afternoon Teas so this was a very Special TREAT for me. We enjoyed ourselves very much. The food was OUTSTANDING and the services just EXCELLENT!! My first visit to a tearoom was for a small bridal shower. I wasn't sure of what to expect, but was delighted with the experience. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. Blanch was very welcoming, explaining the menu of food and teas. The Strawberry iced tea I chose was sweet and refreshing on a hot summer afternoon. Just wanted to let you all know that the tea at Serenity Tearoom was fantastic! A friend and I went on Saturday, for the tea at 3:00 pm. We were lucky to find a parking place on the street directly in front of the building. We were seated near a window in a very pretty room where others also were having tea. There were fresh flowers on the table, and beautiful tea cups. The proprietor, Blanch, was very gracious and explained the selections we were to be served. We each had two finger sandwiches of an egg salad, cucumber salad and another kind, I think it was ham, but I don't remember (it was very good). That was 6 finger sandwiches each. We also each had a wonderful scone with our choice of jam, lemon curd and clotted cream; and a small slice of a pumpkin type bread that was delicious. The desserts for each of us were a huge chocolate dipped strawberry, with the thickest coating of chocolate I've ever had on a dipped strawberry, and two cute, delicious tiny tartlets. We had our choice of a pot of hot tea or ice tea from 50 possible selections of tea. When we finished our pot of tea, we were able to make another selection of tea. We had to continue with either hot or ice tea or there would be an additional charge, but as long as we finished our tea, we could have as much as we wanted. The food was delicious, and the desserts very rich and filling. My friend had the Serenity signature Strawberry tea, which was wonderful, but very sweet and syrupy. We both liked it very much. The tea was very reasonably priced at $18.95 plus tax and tip. We browsed the gift shop afterward and found some items we just had to buy; some silver tea pot earrings, a handbag with teacups, and of course, some loose tea. I highly recommend this tearoom for everyone. It is a quick drive up 270, in old town Frederick. I think the tea was much better and more filling than the one we had at the Pink Bicycle and much more reasonably priced. It was a wonderful outing with great company and gracious hospitality. I had a fantastic time!

My friend treated me to a birthday tea at Serenity, and we had a wonderful time. The tearoom is comfortable and pretty rather than ostentatious. The loose tea leaf menu was extensive, and our server kindly let us sample one of the Southern iced teas. The servers were attentive without being obtrusive, and Blanch, the owner, even stopped by to see how we were doing which was a nice touch. I loved the variety of teacups and saucers on the tables and even experienced a little teacup envy when I spotted a beautiful blue cup on another table. The food, while not exceptional, was good. I had the good fortune of attending a baby shower at the Serenity Tearoom. What struck me most on my visit was that Blanch and her staff were so warm and pleasant. It was such a treat. I have been to the Ritz-Carlton and The Plaza for the Traditional Afternoon Tea. Serenity Tearoom's food was much better and the women working were so helpful and accomodating! I plan to recommend this wonderful establishment to all of my friends! Thank you for a delightful time!

Wonderful tea room! I popped in without a reservation and Blanch was very welcoming. I was so impressed by the entire experience. The tea selection is very extensive. The decor is very classy and elegant. The golden raisin scones were THE best I've had, accompanied by WONDDERFUL lemon curd. Blanch also allows and encourages you to try a different type of tea for your second pot. The whole operation is a class act, and appropraitely named 'Serenity.' I live at least an hour away, but I can't wait to return!

Serenity Tea Room offers excellent fare, service, and atmosphere. The scones were wonderful and the selection of teas was very impressive. The owner and her family are very hospitable and knowlegeable. I've had tea at the Ritz-Carlton and, in my opinion, Serenity Tea Room is better in every aspect and not nearly as costly.

I am one to seldom grade a business with all excellent. However; the Serenity Tearoom deserves each and everyone of those grades. An awesome experience. The variety of the teas were amazing and the food was unbelievable. At first when I saw the size of the finger sandwhiches, I though oh, I am going to have to each lunch after this. Much to my amazement, I was pleasantly suprised. The whole experience was amazing. I will defintely be back. More importantly, I will be recommending the Serenity Tearoom to everyone I know.

It's my first time in a ladies' tea party at Serernity. I loved it! I felt like a lady, confident, unique, and free. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. The decorations made it feel like home and welcoming. The customer service from the staff was excellent. They were attentive to everyone's needs yet knowledgeable and conscientous. The food was scrumptious and the fresh brewed tea was refreshing and very good. I picked the Hazelnut-Vanilla. Yummy! I definitely come again!

Serenity Tearoom provides the perfect tranquil environment to enjoy the excellently prepared delicious food and linger over a warm cup of tea. The signature ice tea is awesome too! I have enjoyed several wonderful visits to Serenity Tearoom and always received high quality service. Serenty Tearoom is an excellent place to meet with friends, sit solo sipping tea, or enjoy a romantic date with a special friend.

Serenity is set in a very attractive room in downtown Frederick. We had a party of 5 that included an infant. They did not have a high chair or booster but we were able to get through that. The tea sandwiches were very tasty but a little small. Also the scones, which were delicious, were served with whipped not clotted cream. The staff was very cheerful and accomodating. Overall it was a good experience and we will be back. There is, however, room to improve.

I have recently moved to the Frederick, MD area and have had some rather unfortunate dining experiences in downtown Frederick. I am happy to say that I have finally found an establishment that exceeded my expectations! The minute I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm friendly smile from Blanch. I was seated immediately, having an option to dine inside or outside on the patio. I decided to sit outside and was very pleased. Service was not only prompt but attentive and friendly. My apricot tea was savory and hot. I also enjoyed a delicious scone with plump golden raisins. This had to be one of the best scones I have ever eaten. The scone was extremely moist and was accompanied by a delicious selection of condiments consisting of clotted cream and lemon curd. I was so pleased with my relaxing experience that I made a reservation for Saturday to share the experience with my boyfriend. I am looking forward to many more afternoon teas at Serenity Tea Room. Thank you to Blanch and her staff for such a delightful experience. Your establishment is truly one of a kind!

Variety of teas is excellent but unfortunately they did not allow the tea to steep at the table and the teapots were very plain, in contrast to beautiful china tea cups. The sandwiches, breads, dessert, and condiment portions are very tiny. Service was slow. Nice place, but I would go to Tea on the Tiber for a more elgant experience.

I have visited dozens of tea rooms in the Baltimore/Washington area and this experience rates among the best. Of particular note is the quality of the food and tea. My mother and I went to Serenity tea room on a Friday, May 12th. We had a very enjoyable experience. There were many hot teas offered as well as iced tea. I chose the iced tea. It was a bit on the sweet side, but still tasty. My mother chose hot tea. After she finished her first pot, Blanche offered more and my mother chose a different variety of hot tea. This was a nice opportunity for my mother to try a different tea...and not at an extra charge. We chose the Traditional Afternoon Tea selection and were very satisfied with the assortment of items. The scones were especially delicious. I just wish there was more jam and clotted cream (not sure it was the real deal, but a close rendition) offered. While we dined, there was a group of women (8-10) who were in the same room as us and it was quite loud...just an fyi for people who would like a quite tea experience. You may want to check with Blanche before you make a reservation about possible large parties dining at the same time as you. The dining room is fairly small, but there is an outside terrace available for dining as well. I would recommnd this Tearoom and be sure to wander around the shops in Frederick...it's a very cute town.

I arranged to arrive at 3:30 but arrived 30 minutes late, however, Blanch was gracious enough to seat me and my guest. The service, though they were closing in an hour was calm and unhurried. Blanch occasionally chatted with us about the tearoom and her family, but her presence was never intrusive. The food was beautifully presented and plentiful. Most importantly, it tasted great and was made fresh on the premises! The lemon curd, though not made by Blanch, was the best I've ever had! I’ve had tea in several places in Baltimore and Ellicott City, Maryland, as well as Washington, DC and Virginia and this place is one of the best—it is welcoming, relaxing, and unpretentious. The surrounding area is wonderful with numerous shops and boutiques. Enjoying tea at the Serenity Tearoom, strolling in the historic district, and shopping are great ways to spend an afternoon.

Situated in the heart of historic Frederick surrounded by an array of antique stores, Serenity Tearoom is the perfect respite from a long morning or afternoon of antiquing :) Serenity tearoom has two sittings. One is between 11-1pm and the other is 3-5pm. I misunderstood what that meant and arrived at 12:45pm. The tearoom has two sittings starting at 11 and ends and 1pm (oops!) Thankfully Blanche was kind enough to seat us for a quick afternoon tea. About the food: Our afternoon tea was delightful! You receive a three tier tray of traditional tea sandwiches (ours were cucumber rounds, flavored cream cheese with cherry tomato and tiny but delicious cashew chicken in ity bity tart shells), warm raisin scones, date bread and assorted desserts (a layered bar with a graham crust and chocolate chip/coconut topping and tiny custard tarts - so yummy!) ending off with enormous chocolate covered strawberries (one dipped in milk chocolate and the other in white) You have your choice of lemon curd or homemade strawberry jam with clotted cream for the scones. About the tea: Serenity Tearoom has over 50 assorted types of tea to choose from. We were very hungry so I didn't have time to go through the extensive list but ended up choosing Monkey tea (which was delicious and cut the sweetness of the desserts) and a peach iced tea (Carolina style). Despite the sweetness of the iced tea, it didn't taste overly sweet but refreshing. The hot and iced teas are refillable with the afternoon tea order. Overall, we had a wonderful time. The service was gracious and prompt, without feeling rushed. I would highly recommend anyone who would want a nice relaxing tea experience to make a reservation at the Serenity Tearoom.

For my daughters's sixth birthday in February, I took her and five of her friends to afternoon. My daughter loves tea parties and she and her friends were excited to get dressed up and have tea. I admit I was a little wary of bringing 6 young girls to such a nice place, knowing they would be using real china and eating foods most of them had probably never tasted. I was so impressed with the girls and they had a wonderful time. But the real credit goes to Blanche Henry and her staff and family. She could not have been a more more gracious and patient hostess, helping with the girls, taking special time with our table and making my daughter's sixth birthday party a memorable and pleasant experience for everyone who attended. The food was excellent, the tea was wonderful and Mrs. Henry was very warm and inviting - she made all of us feel welcome and treated the girls like little ladies. Now I want to go back and experience it with my adult friends!

From the moment I entered Serenity tearoom I was very pleased. It's charming location nestled among the quaint shops and boutiques in Frederick only adds to the tearoom's victorian flair. As soon as you enter the room you feel the stress and weight of the world fall off your shoulders as you sit, relax and allow yourself to be pampered. I organized a mini bridal shower tea at the Serenity Tearoom and was quite pleased with the experience. I enjoyed everything, but the scones in particular were so good, I bought some to take home for breakfast the next day. The atmosphere is delightful, and the owners as well. I took my young daughter, and had asked Blanch in advance if she minded if I brought a hot chocolate envelope, since I was pretty sure my daughter would not drink tea. After reading the other reviews of this tearoom I was anticipating a wonderful experience. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. We were not seated promptly; although we had reservations. We then waited AN HOUR for our tea to arrive to our table and ANOTHER 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We were getting ready to get up & leave! The owner was very nice & apologized for the delay, but I was not interested in hearing her problems keeping staff. I sympathize with her but I was there to enjoy a relaxing afternoon tea and instead I ended up frastrated & disappointed. I hope they resolve the issues the face but it may be a long time before I return.

      Tearoom response:

We would like to thank all of our customers for taking the time to visit and review our tearoom. We greatly appreciate all comments, favorable and/or unfavorable, as they help us continuously improve our products and services. We would like to make a few comments regarding this review. We visited the Serenity Tearoom after having made reservations on very short notice. The owner, Blanche, is a lovely lady who went out of her way to make us comfortable, even though we arrived during an extremely busy time for her. The scones were among the best I have ever tasted, and this was one of the few tearooms I have visited where I left feeling full after having afternoon tea! The tea was steeped away from our table and we did not have to deal with strainers, or having the tea be too strong or too weak. This was definitely one of my most enjoyable tea experiences; one which I am sure to repeat often in the future.

What a lovely place to spend the afternoon with friends! Tea list was extensive, food delicious and beautifully presented, and service friendly. A nice addition to downtown Frederick.

The Serenity Tearoom is a wonderful addition to the charming town of Frederick. Tastefully decorated, with an excellent selection of teas, scrumptious food, and delightfully pleasant service. This tearoom lives up to its name... the serenity encompasses you from your arrival to your departure. A definite must when in the Frederick area.

My mom and I love going to tea and have tea at a lot of different places. We actually had tea early in the day at the Inn at Buckeystown (it was the only teahouse that was close by- or so I thought). After tea there, we went to Frederick to do some shopping when we came across the Serenity Tea Room. We had to try it since we weren’t pleased at all with the tea at the Inn at Buckeystown. Wow! Everything was so much better at Serenity Tea Room. We only had a scone and some tea sandwiches and they were wonderful. The owner, Blanch, was so personable and just fabulous- her husband was wonderful too. I can’t wait to go back and have the full tea. It you are a tea lover- this is the place to go.

My family and I went on Christmans Eve . The service was wonderful, the tea was excellent and the food was great. I am so glad we now have a place where I can buy and enjoy tea.

I visited this tea room right before the Christmas holiday and it was such a delighteful afternoon. The tea was wonderful and the food was the best I have ever had. I had to order extra egg salad sandwiches. The owner is so sweet and friendly, you felt right at home. I wish I lived closer as I would go every week. It was simply joyful!

My friend and I had tea here this afternoon. What a wonderful surprise to find such a delightful tearoom in Frederick Maryland. The room is cozy and warm. The food was fabulous and more than we could eat. We took the extras home with us. The owner is so pleasant. We will definitely eat here again.

This was a pleasant surprise to find such a fantastic tearoom in Frederick so close to home. The owner of the tearoom made us feel like family. The quality of the food was superior to other tearooms I have visited in the past. The scones were served hot and were not hard as hockey pucks like many I have been served elsewhere. I can't wait to go back there!

I was recently treated to a lovely tea in this delightful tearoom by my dearest friend for my Birthday. Simply said, it was one of the most delightful Saturday afternoons I have spent in ages! Everything was perfect!

I was delighted to visit this tea room while I was spending Thanksgiving with my brother's family in Frederick. The building is beautiful and in a whole downtown shopping area with interesting shops and restaurants. The food was excellent and abundant and well presented. The choice of teas was extraordinary, but we had to ask 3 times for milk. Other than that, the service was exemplary. I would definitely go again when I am in town.

I can't begin to say enough good things about Serenity Tearoom. The owner and her husband were wonderful -- friendly, knowledgeable and the pride they take in their lovely tearoom is very clear, and well-deserved. Now, on to the important things: The tea selection is wonderful, and perfectly brewed. The warm scones are absolutely the best I have ever had -- moist, flavorful and light. The lemon curd (is it called lemon curd jam or just lemon curd) was perfectly made and once you have tried it, you might just realize what the 'real thing' is supposed to taste like. The fruit tartlets were absolutely amazing, too. One of the things that I noticed was that, in contrast with most tearooms, the food was so good that I would seek it out even if I didn't want tea. For example, I would buy the fruit tartlets for dessert any day (and every day). I would come back there again in a heartbeat, and I plan to take my mom there very soon. It's also situated in a lovely location (old town Frederick) so you can get some shopping and antiquing in.

This weekend I visited the Serenity Tea Room with my three nieces and sister-in law and my daughter. The visit was wonderful. The experience gave us all a chance to chat with each other, share excellent food and try a wide selection of different types of teas. The owners are friendly and make you feel as though you are part of their family. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, right down to the fresh flowers on the tables. We all enjoyed our afternoon and plan on returning soon. In this day and time it is hard to find such a place that is so relaxing and enjoyable to share with others. I highly recommend Serenity Tearoom to everyone.

My daughter and I stopped in on a whim on a rainy Friday late afternoon. It was just what we needed. A quiet place to talk. Tea was well done and tea food excellent. Three tiers of wonderful. Be sure to chat with the owner.

What a lovely experience after a day of antiquing! Newly opened and located in a row house in the heart of Frederick, this tea room has the charm of high ceilings and wood floors found in homes of centuries past. Two large windows brighten the room and offer a view of the street and passersby. I was particularly impressed that, unlike many tea rooms where the abundance of lace, chintz and ruffles verges on tacky, the décor here was tastefully understated. Each table had a simple damask tablecloth, pretty antique china cups and saucers, and a vase of fresh flowers. There are seven or eight tables here (mostly two-tops, with two four-tops) but there is additional seating outside in the courtyard when the weather allows. A large party had wisely reserved that area on the gorgeous autumn day I was there. Both the owner, Blanch Henry, and her husband graciously greet and seat me and explain the menu and what is being served that day. There are fifty loose teas from which to choose and which can also be purchased from the retail area in the back. Each pot of tea arrives perfectly steeped eliminating the need for tea strainers at the table and avoiding the too weak at the start, too strong at the end dilemma. On this day, a variety of tea sandwiches and savories arrived (traditional cucumber, a nicely seasoned chicken salad in a pastry, and a delicious herbed cheese with tomato), plus a warm raisin scone, a slice of tea bread, lemon cookies, fresh fruit tartlets, and chocolate dipped strawberries. Fresh jam or lemon curd and Devonshire cream come on the side, naturally. And at a price of $18, this tea was a bargain. I would highly recommend!

The atmosphere was pleasant - simple yet classic! More like a home than a 'restaurant', with a small store in the back through the hall. They actually use those huge, shiny metal - gallon sized 'milk carton' to hold all those loose leaves! Tea, itself - is delicious! Hostess and waitress (get this - a WAITER, at a tea house??) are exceptionally nice! It's right in downtown where the heart of Maryland is - Frederick. This place - is worth the visiting.
