Absolutely the very best! From the Tea cart to smell the Teas to the food presentation, everything was exceptional, freshly made sandwiches with plenty of fillings and great taste and the scones the very best straight from the oven,. The staff were very friendly indeed and the own an absolute gem. We had a gluten free person with us and they explained the cross contamination they have in the kitchen making their sandwiches all the time so my guest had the best most salad remarkable salad. Seems like GINA T. from below just didn't get her own way. Highly recommend this place easy to see why they win all the awards and food network film there. FANTASTIC! They know how to do Tea right here! Go you won.t be disappointed.

Jenn, I just wanted to let you know what a superb job you and your staff did for the baby shower last week. Everyone LOVED it. In fact, I think I'd rather have your vegan high tea than a regular tea anytime! Everything was just perfect from the atmosphere you created from the moment we got there with the beautifully-worded welcoming sign to the beautiful table settings and flowers to the utterly fantastic food and very attentive service. You did an amazing job! Thank you!

Jenn: > I have always enjoyed all the teas that Francesca had organized at you Tea Cottage, but this last 'Fairy Tea' was over the top. The food fare was amazing from the wonderful watermelon Soup to the Shrimp and Salmon Salad to the fabulous Parfait. And the people you have that serve us were so helpful and wonderful to have around. The Tea Fairy was especially fun and the little girls loved her. Thank you for serving us. You are the best. > Carola Lindquist

I have attended several themed teas here and am attending again tomorrow. Each one I was served the most fresh and wonderful food and tea. There are so many flavors of tea, but my favorite was the Provence. the scones are bakes fresh and served with high quality preserves and devonshire cream. If you don't visit them you are truly missing a wonderful experience...I highly recommend them..

I have hosted several themed tea parties at The High Tea Cottage, each one has been quite delightful. On every occasion the food has been scrumptious, the service impeccable and the tasty scones are by far amazingly delicious. The large selection of teas is very impressive. I'm pleased and continue to recommend The High Tea Cottage to my friends.

I have visited this tea room on several occasions (3-5 times) and although I found the owner to be rude and sometimes hostile, I overlooked her behavior because I love having tea with my friends and this particular tea house accommodates individuals with gluten allergies. Today was my final visit. I was so humiliated today that my party of 6 left before we even placed our order. When we made the reservation, we noted that 1 in our party was gluten-intolerant. When we arrived for our tea, we reminded the server of that fact and he informed us that both gluten-free bread and gluten-free scones were available. When I tried to order one of the courses however, I was told that they could not make substitutions (although they had on my previous visits) and I would have to make another choice. I tried to be helpful and assured them that they could make any changes necessary to accommodate me. They could substitute the quiche with just a salad, they could give me less sandwich options, they could forego the cake and just give me an extra scone or a plate of fruit. I was happy to pay full price for half of the items but they refused to serve me. We asked for the owner and she stormed out to our table and in a very loud voice informed me that she would not make the substitutions and then proceeded to interrogate me about my food allergy! She accused me of using gluten-intolerance as a weight-loss ploy and lectured me on how gluten-free foods usually contain a higher fat content. Without raising my voice or using obscene language, I told her that I did not appreciate her inappropriate attitude and that her comments were not welcome as she does not hold a medical degree and has no business diagnosing me. She yelled something about wasting her time and stomped out of the room. I was embarrassed in front of my friends, a room full of strangers, and I was mortified that my health problems were called into question. We left and will never return. I hope that you steer clear as well.

Just wonderful! Lovely selection of loose leaf teas, tasty and fresh cuisine, excellent service by Peter and Michelle and overall a perfect way to celebrate the holidays, we drove 3 hour to get there and were not at all disappointed. We have had Tea in the top London hotels and this little gem compares very well to those,we felt we had been transported to a quaint Tea Room in the Lakes District of England. WELL WORTH A VISIT!

This is a beautiful Tea room run by an exceptionally incredible lady. Last week we witnesses an old lady come and enjoy her 91st birthday, She and Jen chatted while she took her order and in general Jen made her feel really welcome. The staff bought out a small cake and everyone in the room all sang happy birthday to her. She then started to explain to us all how the china she was using had been the same pattern her Mother's had had when she was a girl and they had lived in the East End of London during the 2nd World War. With all the bombing, all had been broken and she was so pleased to see it again and be using it. She cried as she told us the story. While she was in the ladies room Jen returned with a box and told the grand daughter with her that it was a cup, saucer and plate in her great grand mother's china and to give it to her grand mother when she took her home and wish her a Merry Christmas from Santa. We all thought it was the most beautiful gesture, the older lady went home with a little Teddy Bear as well for her birthday. I have never ever seen something like this happen at a restaurant! This is a beautiful Tea room with exquisite food, lovely service and a very kind lady owner. I have heard that her husband is also very kind. It is worth a visit and we drove from Lancaster. There is a Tea room there but it does not come close to this one the High Tea Cottage. We will return again and again for our special occasions.

I have been here several times as part of group teas (10 to 20 ladies). They go 'all out' with decorating and the tables are beautifully presented. Tea is prepared 'in the back' and served from pots - I have seen cases where pots are left at the table and some when you have to wait until the server comes back around with the pot. You have a lot of choices of teas. (loose). Servers are very nice, but once it gets busy they are stretched thin. Food is good and plentiful. (Varioius choices as to 'size' of tea service) Sign up for the email list for frequent specials and themed offerings. All in all, a lovely tea room.

I just had my bridal shower here yesterday. From start to finish, I simply cannot say enough good things about the High Tea Cottage. For starters, Jenn was great in helping me plan my event. She was always prompt with her responses and was always ready to help. She was excellent at explaining the menu to me, so I knew exactly what I was choosing, and was entirely confident I had made the right choice. The room was decorated beautifully for my shower. I truly could not have imagined a more perfect setting (and I am a VERY particular person). The flowers, linens, china -- EVERYTHING! It was all perfect. All of my guests commented on how elegant everything was. The personalized menus were gorgeous, and the welcome sign out front really made us all feel like we were at home. The tea was divine, and the food was incredible. One of my friends, who previously did not like tea, commented after the shower that she now loved tea! The chicken and cranberry sandwiches were incredible; the lavender lemonade was probably the best lemonade I have ever had, and the scones were delicious. Last, but not least: the staff! What incredibly attentive people. Michelle was incredible and put my mind at ease throughout the entire event. Anything we needed, she ran to get it. Clean up was a cinch. And they helped us load all of my gifts and food into the car!! Again, I was blown away. In short, I HIGHLY recommend the High Tea Cottage. I can't rave enough about it. If you are looking for an elegant setting for a special event, with excellent food and great service, then this is the place!

I was lucky to have had the ultimate pleasure of having tea for the first time at the High Tea Cottage recently. It was simply exquisite. Frankly it was one of the most enjoyable, delicious teas I have ever had. I have fallen in love with their marzipan tea. I look forward to coming back to the a High Tea Cottage soon. In a world where it seems people are putting less and less effort into what they do, it was so utterly refreshing to experience people who truly care about what they are doing. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, the decor was adorable. Thank you for offering such a lovely, delightful and high quality experience.

My friend and I go all over California to have Tea and this was the first time we have been here. It was fantastic! OMG without question the very best ever! We have been to most of the Tea places listed for the LA area here on Tea Map and this place is so far in front, they would win the gold, silver and bronze medals. Over 100 loose leaf Teas, and offered from a cart so we could smell them. The food presentation is beautiful, the scones hot, just baked and a jam cart to make your choice from. Absolutely 10 Gold stars, the very best. Oh I forgot the service is great Peter the Butler was amazing too.

Just left the High Tea Cottage and couldn't wait to leave a review. This IS the best Tea shop in LA. After going to Pasadena, downtown and even out to Lancaster none compare or compete on this level. Tea fare is consistently fresh, tasty and traditional. Tea sandwiches are small as they should be and the most variety I have ever been offered. No less than 8 flavore were served with my Lady Hamilton selection. The scone came straight from the oven with 2 flavore and a jam cart offered us 5 jams to choose from and we had lashings of clotted cream. A tea cart offered us over 150 teas to smell and choose from. The owners are lovely and knowledgeable. My guests and I were served quickly and friendly. Peter the Butler is very kind and eager to please and serve. To John O below I did not 'receive a discount' to leave a review, the water in out tea was boiling and they brought fresh tea often, always hot. This definitely is not a 'poor excuse for a Tea house' as you wrote. I doubt you were ever there! This place is wonderful. Without a doubt go and be sure to make a reservation. They are quite busy at the weekends .

      Tearoom response:

Millie, it was our pleasure to have you and your family and friends celebrate the additional female member joining your family soon, (actually really soon!) We look forward to seeing you all again in January '09 for the Christening Tea. Have a safe, healthy and happy holiday season and let us know when baby Sage enters the world.<BR> Fondest, Jenn and Ken

Jenn, as you know, my dear friend Annie invited me to join her at your lovely High Tea Cottage yesterday for High Tea. Jenn, you are an amazing hostess. Your cottage is so inviting, welcoming, cozy and delightful. Oh my, what scrumptious sandwiches and desserts!!! Enjoyed every bite. Ken was wonderful in explaining all the teas and letting us smell a few of the hundred or so selections. Annie was perfectly happy with her favorite - Marzipan - and it was just as wonderful as it always was. As for me, when I said I loved green tea, Ken brought out a heavenly Japanese green tea with, I think, cherry and rose flavors. I could honestly say it was the best tea I have ever had in my life. When Ken poured the first cup for me it was a lovely golden color and the taste!!!! Nirvana. Jenn, you are amazing. I can't wait to see you again - before or after your Meetup event, well, OK, both before and after. After all, as Mae West (long before your time) used to say, too much of a good thing is wonderful. And, there can't be too much of a terrific day spent at the delightful High Tea Cottage with my wonderful friend, Annie, enjoying your gracious hospitality. Thank you.

I've had fun trying different teas, since they have such a wide variety. the scones are always great - since they bake different ones all the time, I never know which one we will be getting this time. Not that it matters since they are all good and delicious. I like the tea sandwiches, but I think I would like a bit more variety. I'm looking forward to my next visit - it's always special.

The High Tea Cottage Serves Up Rudeness on Mother’s Day My daughter was taking me to the High Tea Cottage for Mother’s Day. We had a reservation for the 1:00 p.m. seating. We arrived at approximately 12:45 p.m. to be told very rudely that we would have to bear with them as they were running behind schedule. We were then told that we would have to wait outside (it was 104 degrees) until the previous seating was all cleared out. I was taken aback but okay. At 1:15 p.m. I went back into the establishment, sweating, to see if they would give me an approximate time that we would be seated so that I could sit in my daughter’s air-conditioned car. With a bit of arrogance, I was told that after the cottage is all cleared out it would take at least another 15 minutes for them to prepare for the next seating. No apology. No offer of water. Nothing. Did they not consider this factor when scheduling Mother’s Day Tea? We returned to the car, blasted the AC and watched the door for any signs that the seating had begun. At about 1:45 we saw movement and got in line. We were told by another patron that they had begun calling names. A younger man came out and called Kimberly. Kimberly didn’t respond. I then went inside to make sure we hadn’t missed our name. I told the older man that I was sitting in my car and wondered if Kendra (my daughter’s name) had been called. I was told rudely that “Kendra” and “Kimberly” are not the same name. I am calling Kimberly he professed. Was that really necessary? About 10 more minutes passed, everyone had been seated – even those with a 1:30 seating time that we had conversed with in line– and we were still waiting. We were deliberately NOT being seated… maybe because I asked questions, although I wasn’t the only one to inquire about the delays. Perhaps because I asked questions while also black – we were the only African Americans there. One side note, a lady who arrived after us – no doubt who had a 1:30 seating because we saw her when she arrived – made a ruckus about her table (she had made a special request) and threatened to leave because they were trying to seat her elsewhere. They accommodated her. My daughter caught a glimpse of the list. Our name was in the middle. The names BEFORE and AFTER had been checked off. We were obviously being ignored or put in our place so she asked were we ever going to be seated. The older man rudely responded: I will get to you when I do. I’ve told you (he huffed) the situation. (Note: She hadn’t had any interaction with him before – he had only spoken to me.) She responded: You don’t have to be rude to me. He responded: Listen here young lady, don’t tell me I’m being rude. She said: you are and you were rude to my mother before when she asked if we had missed our name. Then I interjected: You have been nothing but rude the entire time. We arrived for the 1:00 seating at 12:45 p.m. and we are the only ones STILL not seated and it is close to 2:00, even most of the 1:30 seating had been accommodated. A lady who also worked there interjected and was very patronizing and also rude, acting as if she was bothered. She asked if we were ready to be seated (as if we were the reason we were still standing) and my daughter responded that we had been ready for an hour. She then said in a hostile tone: Well we weren’t ready. Then she placed her hand on my daughter’s shoulder (I am not sure why – to move her along or to be patronizing?) and my daughter responded: please don’t touch me. Her reply: I think I am going to have to ask you leave. And so we did, and my daughter made sure to let them know that we realized we were the only black people in the establishment, the only people who had not been seated and the only people asked to leave. We wish that we would have read the reviews on YELP before considering the High Tea Cottage. The reviews confirm that they are rude to many patrons and even ruder if you are African American. They treat you as if they are doing you a favor by allowing you into their establishment. I have never witnessed or experienced such undignified behavior at a place of business. Please do not patronize the High Tea Cottage.

I have been to the High Tea Cottage many times but I would never pass up an opportunity to go there again. I particularly like their tea cart with its vast variety and aromas. Jen is very knowledgeable about the health benefits, history and origin of each tea. She encourages you to smell the teas before you choose one. Your last cup of tea is just as good as the first one. Other tea houses refill your pot with hot water when it is empty but not at the High Tea Cottage--they make a fresh pot. The food is delicious. Jen provides an incredible variety of tea sandwiches and the scones are always hot from the oven. The Devonshire Cream, lemon curd and jams really enhance the flavor of the scones. There is always plenty of food. In fact, as an added treat, I'm able to take my deserts home with me. The High Tea Cottage is definitely the best!!!

High Tea Cottage is absolutely the best. Jenn makes the afternoon tea a wonderfully enjoyable, delectable and a very engaging experience. The setting and service are impeccable with many delightful touches such as her vast knowledge of teas and their benefits. You can go for a very filling tea with incredible sandwiches, scones (always warm from the oven) and superior tea choices or you can have a lighter fair which will absolutely satisfy your appetite. I have experienced afternoon tea at roughly 40 tea houses and this is definitely my favorite place. Jenn and Ken make it a most enjoyable and entertaining afternoon.

Just loved this place, they really do Tea right. The Tea cart is wonderful where you can smell all the Teas on offer; the food is extremely traditionally English, made to order, served with fresh flowers elegance and style. We wish we lived closer! Our favorite by far on a recent trip to Los Angeles.

I went to the High Tea Cottage for the first time on Saturday for a friend's birthday tea. I was amazed at the ambience, quality and quantity of food, the service (would you believe our own butler who was dressed for the part), the host's opening address exposing the teas for us in a very humorous (British) way? Not to mention the decor, the use of the patio and allowing us the time to really enjoy the birthday spirit. If the rest of the offerings are as good as our experience I can highly recommend you should try it. Donna

This is an outstanding Tea House, they do events all the time offering different themes and menus. Lots of loose leaf tea that you are able to smell before making your choice, the hot teapots just keep coming and if they are not busy you can have extra flavors and I've never been charged for it, We just had the most delightful Easter Tea, wonderful service by Peters the Butler and a few weeks ago attended the Downton Abbey Tea where everyone came in costume for the Theme. My husband (who just loves going there)was Lord Edward Hughes and I was addressed as Lady Hughes all through the Tea. Just amazing in both food, ambiance, presentation, service and company. I just can not say enough about Jenn, Ken and the staff, wonderful always and lots of food for the price, which is very good these days, we never ever leave hungry, always with a goodie bag for later. The Cottage is elegant and the Patio very restful and pretty. This is the number 1 Tea establishment in Los Angeles and well deserved! BRAVO! Looking forward to Mother's Day. Have been coming here since 2010 and ALWAYS have a lovely experience. This month we attended the Valentines Candlelight Supper the only time the Cottage is open in the evening and it was just magical. This week they had their Guest Appreciation Tea for just $12. This is a wonderful way to say thank you to, patrons. The food is always consistently good, fresh, salads all organic and very flavorful. They have the best selection of Teas we have found in any other establishment and being able to smell them is an added bonus. I highly recommend the High Tea Cottage for any special occasion or just to drop by for tea and scones, which always are straight from the oven!

G'Day! Clare & I returned for the Australian Day Tea/Luncheon last Friday. We weren't disappointed! From the Cheese & Crackers to the beautiful Pavlova with cream, strawberries and kiwi fruit to the tasty Lamington, the dinner was marvelous and very filling. Alas, we had to take some of it home. There were gifts on the table and a door prize drawing. I won an authenic Australian Boomerang and Clare won a 2013 Australian Calendar. The service was as usual impeccable. Jenn was able to spend time with all guests and related many stories about her homeland. Her assistant Sherie was ever present with water, tea and food. It was a memorable experience and we're looking forward to 2014.

This place is amazing. A friend took me here for my birthday a few years ago and we have been going ever since. I love that they have a selection of over a hundred teas. They bring a sampling of them all on a cart anask you questions to try and narrow it down to a select few that they highly recommend. You get to smell the tea leaves then make your choice. I have fallen in love with so many new varieties of tea this way. The owners are very knowledgeable on their teas and will talk your ear off if are interested. Excellent service. NO complaints with that. I have tried something different on their menu each time and each time is amazing. Mouth watering food everytime. I don't evne have to force my husband to come along(maybe it sounds to girly for some guys, like my husband who usually prefers hotdogs at Dodger stadium. LOL)- he salvates over their food too. I lvoe this place and can't wait to return. I highly recommend The High Tea Cottage

The last time we went we met the owner, Jen, who has been away in Australia. What a nice lady, friendly, hospitable and very knowledgeable. The atmosphere in this teahouse is full of charm, refined settings and great food aromas. I had the pleasure of experiencing the High Tea Cottage today. Over 200 tea selections and the expertise to share how they are grown, where they come from and what to expect. The ambiance is inviting, cozy and a bit magical. I say this because while I was enjoying my own experience I witnessed something I've never seen before in all the years I've been in this business. A little girl arrived with her Mother for a special High Tea afternoon. The owner Jenn had asked some specific questions from the Mother when the reservation was made. The names of her pets was one that comes to mind. Jenn shared that the Tea Fairy had told her the little girl was coming and she also told her about the little girls pets. It went on from there but I have to tell you the magical moment was watching the little girl whisper to her Mom 'did you hear that??? the tea fairy knew we were coming!' Each course was elegantly introduced and served. The tea sandwiches, meat pie with delicious salad, freshly baked scones paired with several jams of fig, apricot, raspberry and blueberry followed by a full plate of perfectly prepared desserts was exquisite. I highly recommend the High Tea Cottage for a very special afternoon!

This was my third visit here and I am finally going to give a review this time. All three visits have been marred by the owners attitude. She seems to think that her opinion is the ultimate choice that the customers must make. My friend didn't care for her tea being so strong and asked if she could recommended another flavor. The owner began a long explanation about tea that wasn't necessary. We go to tea houses all over and have never been made to feel so bothersome to our server. My friend finally just said her tea would be fine. I will not take another guest to this tea house to be treated so rudely.

Yesterday my Mother, Daughter and I went to try out the High Tea Cottage for my Daughter's upcoming Bridal Luncheon. We had never been to a Tea House before. My Daughter was the only one who was very skeptical about the whole idea. The High Tea Cottage did not disappoint. Jen and Ken welcomed us in to sit down. I explained to Jen that we where not sure about the menu and how to order. Jen suggested we try the Lady Hamilton, meanwhile Ken started to explain the different teas to us, which was the best presentation of tea I have ever seen. I chose the Queen Elizabeth and my Mom chose the Marzipan. I cannot remember which one my Daughter chose. Mine was delightful.... However my Mom's eyes lit up like a little kid's when she tasted her's. She said it was the best! Jen served us the Chicken, Cranberry and Walnut Salad. Fantastic! Next we had the Finger Sandwich's. Double Fantastic! Last we had the Meat Pie. Triple Fantastic! I saved the best for last thou..... My only experience I have ever had with a scone was terrible enough to never want one again. After a beautiful presentation of Jams and Devonshire Cream (never had that before) I decided to give it a try. Oh my.... was it good. The cranberry scone was to die for. it was fresh baked while we where there. I chose the raspberry jam. I have dreamed about them all night long. They where the best!!! All in all I would give the High Tea Cottage a 100 on a scale of 1 to 10. The Food and Experience was the best. If you are in the West End of the San Fernando Valley (Woodland Hills), you really must check out this little gem.

Great Experience First of all, I'm neither an owner nor an employee of High Tea Cottage (as one of the other reviewers suggested). I'm a new patron of this place, and I plan on becoming a regular. First of all, the owners are warm and welcoming, and definitely know their stuff when it comes to different types of tea. The tea itself is delicious, as is the food (we had the three course American Tea with American flags as well, and the scones were to die for). At one point, one of the owners came around to check on us and we got to chatting, and when I mentioned that my partner is Australian, she sent me home with some treats for him (a meat pie and a sausage roll, both of which he'd been craving since we last got back from Melbourne). Overall, this afternoon was just a really lovely experience with delightful staff, Britt is a real doll and the food fresh tasty and served with fresh roses. The service was attentive yet not intrusive and we were not rushed out like other Tea places after 90 minutes, we spent a delightful afternoon and I'm already looking forward to going back.

This is the most unpleasant tea experience I have ever had. The menu variety and food quality were average, nothing special, but that will be the least of your problems. The service could not be worse. Condescending, extremely slow, I could go on and on. I would not have bothered to write but the reviews here are very misleading. The positive reviews added here every few days are clearly written by employees rather than real customers. You'll have a better time in your own kitchen.

I agree with Mary Weiler and I think Pam must either be thinking of the wrong place, or is affiliated with the tea shop in Thousand Oaks. I've been on more the one occasion, and it's always delightful and authentic. In addition to the delicious feast, everyone in my party the other day remarked on how lovely it is to be encouraged to have a leisurely meal, instead of being rushed out as soon as you hit the 90-minute mark, as most places do these days. Jenn and Ken and the whole team were wonderful and we all had an amazing time (and we will all be back again and again). And I had to change our reservation a few times, and Jenn was incredibly gracious and easy to work with. I've been to tea in several places in L.A. and NYC, and this is by far the best experience. I highly recommend it.

I feel I must reply to Pam listed 2 down. I must defend the tearoom as I know the owners will not leave a response. The High Tea Cottage is excellent in every regard! A most relaxing atmosphere, it is a wonderful place to meet with friends over tea and unwind. They serve delicious made to order food, the menu and variety of tea's to choose from is exceptional, Jenn and Ken have always gone out of their way to serve my needs and those of family and friends we have gone with. There is an exceptional amount of service here from the choosing of your teas where you are allowed the pleasure of smell them to the taking of the menu through to the personalized service of each course served. If there was no service you would receive nothing here!. Teamap is not the place to make personal, spiteful and horrid insults. Jenn is the most caring and generous person you could meet, they give gifts at Birthdays and even a lovely welcome gift if it is your first visit, they also donate to fundraisers with the community and will invite elders to come for tea gratis to enjoy the surroundings. To wish a business goes out of business just goes to show your lack of intelligence and your vile personality. I don’t believe you have even been to this lovely Tea House. They have a following in the thousands, and as for your comment about the police, we have often seen the police dining there in uniform and out of uniform, they are loyal customers who are as impressed with Jenn and her graciousness and quality of this Tea Room as all of us are. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere is delightful! I've been to numerous tea rooms all over this country and you can't beat this one. We will definitely come back…often and others should see for themselves how a successful business is run.

This is a wonderful Tea Shop, my first experience was a few months back when my friend Ivy took me there for my birthday. I have since been back several times. There is a tea cart where over 150 teas are presented and available for you to smell. The gentleman who helped us was informing, funny and it wasn’t too much trouble as we changed our minds over and over. Jen the owner assisted us with our menu selection from the largest we have ever seen in a place such as this. My friend selected the Traditional Tea, my choice was the English Afternoon Tea. Both were served and presented beautifully with fresh floral to add to the presentation and were tasty and fresh. Our scones came straight out of the oven and a sweet young server named Britt offered us a selection of no less than 5 preserves to accompany the best scones either of us have every encounted. Our Teas were constantly refilled and we had fresh china served with every course. My trifle took be back to my Granny’s homemade from over 50 years ago and Ivy’s traditional selection was both very pleasing to the eye and tasty. I have returned several times since with new friends and the owners Jen and Ken have made us feel warm and welcome each time. The food offered is always very fresh, beautifully prepared and presented just right, their portions are large and one is given plenty of choices, you certinally don’t leave here hungry. There is a lot of service and the staff are professional and friendly, like a family. We highly recommend the High Tea Cottage for any special occasion or just pop in for the Tea and Scones, well worth the $15 charge. You may have to wait a few minutes while they bake them for you. The tea is bottomless and I have been served more than 1 choice without an extra charge. Since when has a restaurant given a birthday gift for celebrating a birthday, well the this place does, it is definitely well worth a visit.

This is a long detailed review. Just wanted to let you know I warned you! It was a busy weekend at the High Tea Cottage for 4 of us this past weekend and I want to tell you about all 3 times we went Friday 11/11/11 Saturday 11/12/11 and Sunday 11/13/11. Firstly we went to the 11/11/11 event on Friday. They had an $11 menu because it was 11/11/11/ We had 2.30pm reservations and were seated on arrival. The tables were set with lovely fresh roses and Royal Albert china, (we looked!!). They had 7 different Teas and we each ordered a different pot, an extra $2 which was lovely and cheaper than Starbucks! Jen the owner came over and thanked us for coming and when I commented on how busy they were she told us one of her servers had called in sick at the last minute and apologized if there was any wait in advance. The menu offered was a 3 course Tea which would normally be $25.50 for $11 and a 2 course Tea that would normally be $29 also for $11.00 I chose the 3 course tea, my friends chose the Beef Vegetable soup, amazing flavor and a big bowl too, Tomato Soup with fresh Basil cream, another great taste and large bowl and our 4th friend had the salad with tomato, cucumber, fresh pineapple, strawberry, carrot and kiwi fruit. It was plentiful, fresh and looked delicious. My 3 course tea was all serve at once, really fresh, the tea sandwiches were cucumber, white meat chicken with cranberries and walnuts and curried egg. When the tier arrived with all my food I realized I had forgotten to say no nuts on my sandwiches and our server graciously offered to bring me some more chicken without nuts. They must have been making the sandwiches when ordered as they all tasted like they were just made, I also had scones and a lovely cream cake with fresh strawberries. My friends had the meat pie with mashed potato, peas and gravy, lovely vegetable quiche and a big serving of a tuna cream dish served over a pastry case. Everything was really lovely and well worth the usual prices on the menu. All was served on the beautiful and silver flatware so there were no short cuts but they were very busy. All our food had been served within 30 minutes of us arriving and we stayed until 4pm when we had to pick up kids. We started talking to the table next to us and they said they had been there lingering for 3 hours and felt guilty they had taken up the table for so long but enjoyed the atmosphere and hadn’t been asked to leave so they stayed, I think this type of thing may have caused a problem as when we were leaving 2 parties were waiting to be seated and the waitress told them they were waiting for tables to leave who had been there for quite a few hours. All in all we had a lovely afternoon and say bravo for offering such a splendid menu for an unbelievable price on a special day 11/11/11! The second event was the Holiday Tea tasting the following day at 11am, it was a great day for Tea Tasting as it was raining! The event was booked out and we met some delightful ladies who go to the Cottage events regularly and could not speak highly enough of this quaint place. We tasted 5 teas starting with the Chestnut, my favorite of the whole day! Jen hosted the tasting and was gracious, entertaining and amusing. They offered a 2 course lunch, platter of tea sandwiches vegetarian quiche or Meat pie with a nice salad all followed by baskets of scones. Once again the food was very fresh and plentiful. I ordered the quiche this time and had to take one of my scones home as I couldn’t eat all the food, my friend Susan had the tea sandwiches as she had never been to the High Tea Cottage before and she absolutely loved them. The scones were straight from the oven, hot and very tasty. The Holiday teas were really lovely, we could drink as much as we wanted and then they were offered for sale at a 40% discount. We were told how to make mulled wine out of the Christmas Teas and even given a small taste, an absolute winner for my next Holiday Party. Price was $20 and another event we thoroughly enjoyed. The service was good and we had plenty of piping hot teas! Our third day, Sunday, was the Fall Family and Friends Tea with a classical guitarist, who played every request my husband made. It was just the 2 of us and we made reservations for 2pm when the guitarist commenced. Once again our table was elegantly set with lovely china and fresh roses. This was a 4 course Tea with the commencement of soup or salad followed by the tier of sandwiches, 2 different flavored scones and desserts. I had the salad, same as my friend had on Friday, very fresh, lovely combo of fresh fruits and a nice champagne dressing served on the side. Hugh had the soup, chicken vegetable and said he wanted more it was so good. The tea sandwiches were again very fresh, lots of flavor and this time I remembered the no nuts. We had 8 sandwiches in all each so there was plenty of food. The scones were once again hot, lemon with apricots and cranberry with raisins, Hugh loved the clotted cream and they brought more without hesitation when he asked. We had different desserts, mine was a lemon tart with cream and fresh strawberries and my husband a a large slice of a lovely chocolate mousse cake which he said was amazing, so much food neither of us could finish all so we took home a box of leftovers for our son who ate them later and stated how yummy they were. For $25 per person this was a most lovely afternoon spent in a delightful Cottage, I did notice the tables were the same as when we have been there before, they don’t bring in extra tables for their events, so we were not sitting on top of other guests as happens in other Tea rooms. Sorry I have written so much but I want readers to have a true perspective of this place. All in all I can not say enough about the High Tea Cottage, every time we have gone the staff have been attentive and friendly. Jen the owner has always been lovely even when she was going through Chemotherapy a while back she would be very tired sometimes aloof , which is understandable with her 3rd time with cancer, but still gracious and still working with a positive attitude and her staff absolutely adore her, they have told us this!. I noticed some guests can be very difficult, they have no manners, don’t know the protocols of Tea, are extremely rude, we watched one person put their chewing gum under the table cloth!!! Can you believe that? This place is very much like what you would experience if you are to enjoy Tea in London or the country side at formal Tea Rooms in England, well worth a visit. Make reservations though and get on their mailing list as they have events that are not advertised and they book out very quickly. I just want to say thank you for reading this review, I wanted to let you know that this really is a great place and the owners are gracious and charming I have been here many times and everything is always lovely! Have a lovely day.

I am a return guest to this charming tea house that is a 'hop, skip and a jump' from my home. I have invited several friends and family members here for a girls day out or for a special occasion. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the tea cottage. Examples of comments have been 'what a little gem' - 'how did you find this beautiful tea house?' - loved 'Valentine's Day here' - loved 'holiday season' tea here. It's just so wonderful. The food is so authentic and beautifully presented. Jenn and Ken are gems themselves. Everyone always takes home a small bag of their most favorite tea! Can't wait to go back. Thank you Jenn and Kenn for your hospitality as well as all of your darling servers!

So pleased to see Jenn and the High Tea Cottage featured on the Food Network and CBS You go!! My friends and I love this place, everything is wonderful here, I love the attention to detail, we always have great service, I have met Jenn and Ken a total of (I think) five times, and they have been nothing but gracious and welcoming, the staff are friendly and professional and the ambiance is just perfect. Everything about the High Tea Cottage is very English and all is presented and served following the proper protocols for Tea, but it’s not stuffy….try it, food is tasty with beautiful presentation and lots of loose leaf teas, over 150 I believe, but make reservations, they have lots of events too see their website, highteacottage.com

Who would have thought this little jewel was tucked away in Woodland Hills? Having lived in England for many years, I found the atmosphere at the Hight Tea Cottage tradtional and absolutely beautiful. From the fine china to the fresh roses on the table, the experience was lovely. The service was impeccable, the tea selection awe inspiring and our scones were served piping hot from the oven. The high tea was traditional from the finger sandwiches(faves were the curried egg and of course the cucumber) to the scones to the sweets. A little gift to the birthday girl was a sweet surprise - definitely A+++++.

My girlfriend and I went to this charming cottage to have 'afternoon tea' for my birthday and we absolutely loved everything...the decor, the service, and especially the food! I am originally from Great Britain so I do know something about dainty tea sandwiches, scones, and English-style desserts. Everything was just so fresh and delicious and, of course, the teas we chose were amazing. We are definitely going back sometime soon.

We just popped in for a pot of tea and scones and were wonderfully surprised, by the old world charm of the “High Tea Cottage.” Each table is set with beautiful china, coordinating cloth napkins, and fresh roses. With our server Brittany’s, well-informed help, we chose a Rooibos Tea, a naturally caffeine-free and mineral-rich herb. The fragrance was chocolate and the taste was AMAZING!! Baked to order, the petite scones come to the table hot and served with our choice of fresh made jams and Devonshire cream…SO VERY GOOD! We immediately made a reservation to return with six family members later this month, for the whole high tea experience. I cannot wait. OMG!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

This is an exceptional place, we had a party here this past weekend and it was absolutely perfect, we couldn’t find one thing wrong and they even gave a girt to the bride from the staff. The brides comment was, I hope my wedding is as nice! We came for tea a few weeks ago to check it out and just loved what we saw and the food was fresh, tasty and hot fresh scones, they even baked our favorite just for us, raisin and pomegranate oh so good! . They have lots of loose leaf teas served from a cart, the salads are outstanding, presented like a picture, and we absolutely loved it. We could not have had a more perfect visit each time we went and the owners are absolute gems as are the rest of the staff. What a treat, we are looking forward to seeing their holiday events.

I have attended 3 Showers here in the last 3 months and they are the best Teas I have ever been to or experienced! The pace is perfect, we have never been rushed and the staff and owners are extremely friendly and make you feel very welcome. The food is presented with fresh roses on a 3 tier with freshly made sandwiches, petite and flavorful and our scones, OMG!!!! came straight from the oven each time. We had different flavors from chocolate to lemon, apricot and cherry and raisin with cranberry, all were yummoh! It's like dining in a private home. The china is exquisive, the floral arrangements have been very pretty and we love the antique umrbella and also the personalized sign at the front door to welcome the guest. It is very easy to see why the High Tea Cottage wins all the awards in the State of California and city of LA. Well done ladies, YOU DESERVE IT, we look forward to coming to tea agin really soon.

I am shocked at all the positive reviews of this place. The owner is INCREDIBLY rude. I had my birthday here, and all of my guests commented on how rude the owner was to us. We felt very unwelcome. She was rushing us, even though the place was practically empty. The food is seriously overpriced too. There's not much food for how much you're paying. The scones were especially bad - they have raisins in them! Yuck! I was just shocked at how rude the owner was. I will never return.

After seeing this Teahouse featured on TV last week, we decided to give it a try. We regularly go to Teahouses listed here on Teamap just had not made it to this one. With the pending 'Carmageddon' on the 405 this coming weekend we thought we would drive up on Monday, even though we had no reservations. We were met at the door by Jenn (we recognized her from the TV ) she asked what name our reservation was under and when we told her we didn’t have one she said, wait a minute and I’ll check for availability. she apologized that they had no space available, but if we didn’t mid waiting there should be a table available with 20 minutes. We decided to wait as we had driven up from the South Bay. She brought us some lovely iced mint lemon water to sip and returned to the other guests. A sweet older gentleman came and welcomed us and left us to our chatter. After 15 minutes a table cleared and we were seated. Firstly, the table was set with white linen cloth (no glass on top!) and starched linen napkins, there were fresh roses on the table, all our china was Royal Albert, I think the pattern was called Celebration, lump sugar and sweetener all in matching china to the teacups. The older man, Ken came with a Tea Cart with over 100 loose leaf teas. We smelled to our hearts content and finally made selection. I decided to go with 1 of the 3 premium teas and he explained there was an extra $5.00 charge due to this tea retailing for over $300 a pound, i didn’t mind as he said the tea pots were bottomless. Jen took our food orders, I decided to have just scones, my sister and friends choose the Royal, Traditional and the Lady Hamilton with chicken salad. My sisters china was changed to the most elegant beautiful china I have ever seen because she was having the Royal High Tea, served on a better china. When the food started to arrive about 15 minutes later we were all amazed at the presentation. Every plate had fresh roses as decoration with the exception of the Royal which had 2 magnificent Cymbidium orchids with fresh rosemary. The chicken salad was beautiful. Fresh strawberries, pineapple, mango, kiwi fruit, orange, beets and the chicken breast served with walnuts and cranberry, we all tasted, we all raved! Then the scones arrived served from a cart with no less than 5 jams, can’t remember them all but I had the fig lime curd and they were delicious. The scones were very hot and the best I have ever tasted at a commercial Teahouse. The desserts served to the rest of our party were just as thrilling, as I didn’t order them I can not personally comment on flavor but everyone said the flavors were tantalizing and fresh. I did try the tea sandwiches my friend ordered and they also were fresh and very tasty, certainly not bland or ordinary. I could go on and on but I think you get the idea that we were more than satisfied and pleased with the service, quality of food and surroundings, we stayed for nearly 4 hours, they even gave my girlfriend a beautiful birthday gift as it is her birthday later this week. We had a most enjoyable experience that we talked about all the way home and planned our next visit. It was a lovely afternoon from the moment we arrived until we left. My final comment is reflected to Maria below. I didn’t mind in the least paying an extra $5 for the premium tea, I drank 3 pots of it at the place and then they filled my thermos for our return journey home. Even at Starbucks you pay more for premium teas and coffee and if you want an extra cup, not pot, you have to pay for that too, businesses are in business. We all found Jenn to be charming and most accommodating,. Not all Tea establishments suit all people; this one definitely suited us.

Hello, I went to the High Tea Cottage on Friday with my girlfriend not realizing they were being televised by Fox news. Although we had to be careful with wires and lights around the place Jen and her staff accommodated us and provided their usual excellent service, tea and food. We have been coming to the High Tea Cottage for about the last 3 years and have been amazed at how Jen always seems to manage to raise the bar when it comes to the quality of the food and the taste of the teas. This review is reflected to Rosemarie and Katherine below. I just LOVE this place, Jenn is the most gracious of hostess besides being a wonderful, loving individual and her staff are also exceptional. What ever combination of tea sandwiches you wish for she will accommodate without and fuss or bother, if you don’t like or are allergic to something, no problem they ask you this when your order is taken. They always offer substitution on sandwiches, and they always offer exactly what their website represents. Their Tea selection is beyond belief with a cart where you may smell every one and there are over 100. Shame on you Katherine to think you can take 2 6 year old children for the Tea Experience and not expect to pay. My grand children ranging from 4 to 11 years, love the High Tea Cottage and absolutely insist that the Tea Fairy menu be ordered for all of them. This is the only Tea House in LA that offers a Tea directed towards the fantasy of a child and brings enormous enjoyment to the children and adults joining them. I will say that neither of the owners will tolerate rudeness or bad manners, it appears from your reviews you have both.

      Tearoom response:

I went to the High Tea Cottage in March with a friend I hadn't seen in many years. We both loved it. The tea was good, the food tasted delicious, and it was a nice little tea house. Now, a few months later, I wanted to return with my mom and 3 young nieces (9 and 6 years old). Unfortunately they are unwilling to be accommodating to our needs. While I understand that there must be a splitting charge and the like, being unwilling to change the type of sandwiches given seems unnecessary. Are they really loosing money by giving us apple and cheese and cucumber sandwiches over egg and chicken ones? This is especially true when their prices are so high! Paying $18 for a 'fairy' to come is a bit ridiculous if the children are not going to drink the drinks they offer and only want a piece of cake and enjoy the atmosphere. They also seem to not adhere to their on-line menu, so I'd recommend asking before going if there is something from the menu you are interested in. Unfortunately for us, we won't be returning to this location and we'll stick to others that are more family friendly.

      Tearoom response:

Katherine,<BR> While I never respond to reviews on Teamap, this time I feel I must. You sent an email requesting 1 Royal High Tea with substitutions for the egg and 1 Princess Tea What you wanted was to bring 5 guests to Tea and order 2 items. 3 of the guests were children. I emailed you back and told you we could substitute the cheese and chutney for the egg and due to the split charge of $10 you would be better having 2 Parlor Teas, you emailed me back and said that was fine. You also stated that you did not require food for the 2 six year old children as they only drink water, yet you wanted them to have the full experience of Tea. I explained to you that it is our policy for all children to have the Princess Tea as it comes with the Tea Fairy and in the past we have had problems when children do not eat and then there are tears due to the Tea Fairy not bringing a gift to them, they see other children in the Cottage go looking for the Tea Fairy and receive their presents.<BR> <BR> While I do not object to reviews being left on Teamap it would be appreciated if you would indeed be honest. I clearly stated in the email you could substitute egg for cheese and chutney, Your comment....While I understand that there must be a splitting charge and the like, being unwilling to change the type of sandwiches given seems unnecessary. Are they really loosing money by giving us apple and cheese and cucumber sandwiches over egg and chicken ones?....this is directly opposite to what I said. I am known for being extremely generous to our clients, we offer all dietary requirements from Vegan to gluten free, sugar free jams and heart condition menus. We substitute sandwiches all the time with no extra monetary charges including taking children to the kitchen to tell the chef exactly what they would like to eat when they are fussy eaters. Many Moms have told us their children will eat food at the High Tea Cottage while they will not eat at any other establishment.<BR> <BR> As for the children, when other little boys and girls are in the Cottage and the Tea Fairy, which is a theme through the children's tea leaves gifts for the children, it is very sad for us to not be doing the same for other children in the Cottage who parent or relative has decided not to order the $18 Prince/Princes Tea or any food for the child. This has resulted in tears, not just for the child or children involved but also the staff. We are a business, not a charity, the jewelry given from the fairy is not a cheap trinket and costs us money as well. It costs us money to have a guest sit at a table, even if they order nothing at all. All china and crystal must be re washed, cloths changed etc,. The opening line in your first email was....In March I visted your tea house with a friend and loved it! I would love to go back next month with my mom, and three young nieces' I do not see how you can leave 1 star for service after your comment to me was this, still your choice. I am sorry you do not understand the principles of doing business in this economy.<BR> Jenn<BR> <BR>

Really was amazing and so much better than we expected. This is the best Tea House in all of southern California. Scrumptious spread of food presented with fresh roses and very tasty. Loved the beautiful jewelry presented at the end by the charming owner.

Just loved the Mother's Day High Tea this past Sunday, it started off with the most delightful appetizer plate served to as we sat with with a flute of sparkling cider, then came a most exquisitive salad like I have never had before. The Tier of tea sandwiches, scones and desserts came next all presented with fresh red roses. Absolutely wonferful and topped off with endless pots of different flavor teas and a beautiful jewelry for both moms at out table. Well done High Tea Cottage!

Beautiful setting and tea presentation. My only complaint is that I've yet to taste the curried egg salad. The egg salad is spread very thin so all that you taste is the bread and cream. When I taste the curried egg, I'll give High Tea Cottage 'five'stars.

Exceptional! The Royal High Tea served for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate. I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with close friends watching the wedding, everything was exceptional as the below review also says. Our afternoon was not even dampened by the three rude ladies who managed to insult all the other patrons also enjoying the afternoon. Jen we loved your outfit and the hat, you looked like you just came from Westminister Abbey yourself. Another lovely afternoon spent at the best Tea House in California, this was a delightful afternoon spent together, with tasty morsels, beautifully presented and served as usual.

Had 2 fabulous experiences this past weekend. I went to the Royal Wedding High Tea on Friday, unfortunately they had some technical issues with the TV coverage from the local cable TV company but the meal was so fantastic I went back today with other friends and it was absolutely perfect, including the recorded televised coverage. We had the Royal High Tea that came with the lovely English bone cup and saucer, My salmon croissant with wasabi was deletable and not just 2 slices of salmon but 4! The presentation is always magnificent here but today's tier had 3 beautiful red roses displayed within the 3 levels. Everything was absolutely first class, even better than the Ritz we went to, 2 weeks ago. Our server Sam on Friday and Terry today were both warm and friendly and made our visit especially welcomed on each occasion. We are looking forward to Mother's Day next weekend. Thank you for making the Royal Wedding such a special experience here in Woodland Hills.

The food and tea here is exceptional. Unfortunately both times I have been here, the service has been less than pleasant. I was made to feel unwelcome once because I didn't make reservations and I felt uncomfortable the entire time due to the grim face on my server. The 2nd time the serving person made both of us uncomfortable by telling us we were eating and drinking too fast. This place has a lot of potential for wonderful experiences. I know that this is a HIGH tea experience, but need it be so stuffy?

We just had the most wonderful experience here at the High Tea Cottage, the service is friendly, knowledgable and lots of it. They have a teacart where you are able to smell the teas then make your choice and the pot is constantly filled and hot. The menu covers all dietary requirements even for my picky vegan daughter. Everything was presented with freh flowers, roses and orchids. The tea sandwiches fresh and tasty, the scones straight from the oven with a jam cart to boot! We had a chocie of 5 jams to pick from and not the ordinary ones either, we loved the house apricot ginger and lime curd. The desserts were cold, tantilizing and once again the presentation was magnificent. WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE, best Tea we have ever been to and we go to the Ritz Carlton a lot, from now on we go to The High Tea Cottage, it is well worth the extra 1/2 hour drive. Bravo!!

Beautiful afternoon spent here, the whole experience was fantastic. We especially were surprised by and enjoyed the tea cart where you are able to smell your teas and get a choice from over 100, no other tea house does this that we have found. The menu was extensive and an absolute abundance of the freshest food ever enjoyed at a tea house. We took doggybags! Equal to the finest hotels in New York and London and the most magnificent china was served with the Royal High Tea. I am still craving the scones that came straight from the oven and the lime curd served to us from a preserve cart. Absolute the finest tea we have had and we go to many up and down the state of California on our travels. Wait with anticipation to enjoy the tea in celebration of the upcoming Royal Wedding!

I went to the Cottage earlier this week for the 10th time. Unlike 'Wendy' I have never experienced anything like her claimed 'experience'. The food is always fresh, the advice about both it and the teas have always been accurate and the owners even advise when you are thinking about more food than you can eat, quite unique in my experience. The service is top notch, you are not hurried and the staff will even put money in the parking meter for you. Perhaps Wendy is in 'Never Land?' I can only suggest you go and judge for yourself.

These reviews say it all but I had to add my own 5 stars! I've had tea in Paris and London and the remarkable Empress Hotel and still this modest little tea room in Woodland Hills made us glad we stayed close to home today. I have never had so much attention given to the aroma of the teas and now I know what a difference it makes to sniff those fragrant leaves before the brew arrives. The delicious sandwiches had a delightful layering of flavor and the jam cart was a tantalizing surprise that made our oven-fresh scones even more yummy (and definitely one of the best scones I've EVER tasted-- the jam and cream elevated their fresh flavor). Gracious, comfortable, cozy, memorable. If you live in the area, head straight for High Tea Cottage...if you don't, plan a trip soon!

Came this week on a trip through Los Angeles. We usually Tea in San Francisco but were down in LA on business and decided to check out the local Tea Houses, this one was highly recommend in over 200 reviews on the web and we found it to be exceptional! The best we went to by far. They bring a Tea cart to smell the teas before selection, I selected from the new Holiday Teas presented on an antique tray, Christmas and my sister chose Chestnut, wonderful! There is a jam cart for choice of jams from 5 different varieties, the Lime Curd is outstanding! All the food was amazing fresh, tasty and scones straight from the oven. We both ordered the Holiday Celebration Tea at $39 each. This consisted of 4 courses; we had way too much food, but ate every bit! The meal finished with presentation of a beautiful crystal pin each. Amazing! Great service; lovely ambiance; just like a true Tea House in England. Right off the 101 so well worth a stop by, we will even drive down again just to sample the delights here in the New Year. And, on a foot note, stopped by another Tea House in Cambria on the way home, the patrons we met there also raved about the High Tea Cottage and said it is the best in the State, we absolutely agree. I have been to the High Tea Cottage twice now and both times have received excellent service and personal attention. The first time, I went with a friend a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it so much that I returned yesterday with another friend and our two little girls. Our girls had a wonderful time and they had so much fun looking for the 'tea fairy.' We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea. The ambience of the cottage is wonderful, with soft music playing and delicious aromas wafting through the air. The tea lesson was terrific and we all enjoyed learning about the different teas and choosing the tea we wanted to enjoy. The food is delicious, delicate and prepared beautifully. Having spent 15 years in the restaurant industry, I truly appreciate being served a wonderful meal with exceptional service and this is what we have received at the High Tea Cottage. I will definitely be bringing my friends again. My 7-year-old daughter cant wait to go back and have tea and I will be bringing her back for special occasions. The memories of having tea together at the High Tea Cottage will be pricelss. Thank you, Jenn, and everyone at the High Tea Cottage, for providing such a lovely tea experience here in the San Fernando Valley.

I have been coming to this establishment for the last couple of years since it was recommended to me by a friend. I have returned the favor by leeting all my friends' know about it. Of all the tea rooms that I have visited on the West Coast the only one I would compare it to would be the Victoria in Vancouver. I am not referring to the physical layout, they are totally differnt I am talking about that magical thing called quality. You know when you first step in the Cottage in Woodland Hills that it is something special. From the ambience, especially in Fall and Winter, the friendly greetings from the owners and staff and the helpful way they help you through a very comprehensive of food and teas. Don't be in ahurry when you go there, allow at least two hours to soak in the atmosphere, eat the food and drink, oh yes drink the tea. One of California's hidden delights. Yes I love it. I tried the American afternoon tea because I wanted smoked salmon. My husband tried the English afternoon tea because he wanted the strawberry strifle. We both liked the sandwiches. They were very fresh. We got scones fresh out of the oven. Got to picked 2 out of 4 jams besides the clotted cream. The strawberry strifle was excellent. We got to smell various kinds of tea to make our selection. The hostess Jenn was so hospitable. Our tea cups were being refilled constantly. She asked my husband if he were still hungry. I took my 8 yr oold daughter for a 'Mad hatters Tea Party' at the High Tea Cottage a few weeks ago after missing out in the earlier shows during the year. We had a ball. The characters (mainly professional actors) really went to town for everyone there. Kylie's favorite character was the Queen of Hearts (played by the owner of the tea house). The table was literally full of food and we managed to stuff ourselves so full we didn't eat until Monday morning. Plenty to drink and the desserts, well. Speaking for myself I really liked the little pies which are imported from Australia. After the food we played games which allowed both the children and adults to play and I think I can still hear the laughter echoing in my brain. After the party we all trooped outside (after parading past the other people in the cottage) for a foto shoot, with all the characters in full costume posing with everyone. A really great way to spend an afternoon, next time I will need to get in earlier.

Both times the ambiance was wonderful; the food, made to order, is so extremely fresh and presented with pretty floral it is far superior to any other place. The teas were offered from a tea cart for smelling and then selection, served hot and bottomless, all this is done with outstanding service. Friday the establishment was so busy we didn't see a spare seat anywhere even the quaint private garden patio was occupied with a private group. I have to say this tearoom is so far superior to any of the others they don't even come close. From the imported smoked salmon to the kosher white meat chicken, chocolate shells from Belgium and tart shells from France the High Tea Cottage serves a menu which is absolute top shelf. Service, ambiance and delivery of the complete tea presentation is what makes them #1 in California and it's well deserved, it really is worth a long drive to experience the very best. Thank you Jen and Dr.Ken for making our visit so wonderful we will be back soon. The Thompson family.

My Mother and I hosted a birthday tea for my Grandmother's 90th birthday here 2 weeks ago and it was beyond exceptional, everything was absolutely perfect and Jenn surprised us with a beautiful cake at the end and a lovely gift for my Gran. Megan's service was great and she was very sweet and helpful with guests who had diet restrictions. Abundance of food, we took home 3 boxes of left overs. We will be back again this weekend for my nieces birthday Mad Hatter Tea Party, we have heard it is a knockout!

I spent several weeks researching tea rooms in the Conejo/West Valley area to host a tea for my 4 sisters. What a delight it was to find the High Tea Cottage! There was meticulous attention to detail. The decor was charming and tasteful. The tea offerings were extensive and included black, red, and green teas. Our party tried a number of different types and they were all wonderful. The sandwiches scones, jams, curds, and desserts were all equally delicious. Thank you for making our afternoon so enjoyable and memorable.

I have been to this tea house many times. It is a little gem in the San Fernando Valley. I have never been disappointed and everyone I have ever taken here finds it to be the most wonderful treat. I even love the story of the ghost or presence as Jen and Ken like to call her. Please, don't change a thing!

      Tearoom response:

Terri, Thanks for your wonderful praise! I am happy to welcome guests to the Cottage and when possible I really enjoy serving our patrons. By now you are one of the family so we look forward to welcoming you again and again. Take care and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Jenn

The High Tea Cottage is definitely enchanted. I have been there many times and I wish I could go every day. The ambience is charming and the food is delicious. I especially like the variety of tea sandwiches and the English trifle is amazing. The owners, Jenn and Ken, are delightful and will make you feel welcome from the moment you enter to the time you leave. It is a treasure of a place and a step back in time. I recomment it wholeheartedly.

Wow! What a fantastic experience! I'm not sure what more can be said about the exquisiteness of this place, but it was just that: exquisite! We dined alone on a Friday night in this quaint little tea house, but this is obviously due to it being Valentine's Day weekend than a quality place to dine. Without a doubt one of the best experiences of both our lives. The fabulous variety of aromas from the tea cart are enough to transport you between time and place quicker than you can imagine. The samplers and salads, excellent, and our main course no less delicious. The tea was never ending, with its cherry aroma perking up our mood for this very special evening, our one year anniversary. Both of us agreed: we couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate it.

I have had the High Tea Cottage do catering for my church group at 3 different times and it is always excellent. The food is as fresh as can be and presented with fresh flowers like orchids and roses and fresh rosemary. This past weekend we went to the Cottage for Tea and everything surpassed our expectations. This is really an absolute wonderful experience. God bless you for the wonderful heaven on earth you have created.

This is a great tea place, my friends and me went there this past weekend and we drove over two hours to get there, the place was packed with a Tea Shower in their private salon and not a vacant table or chair available, yet it was still quiet and sophisticated. They don’t over crowd or bring in extra tables like most other places to get more business. We were treated to the Tea Cart where we could smell as many teas as we wanted before we ordered and given great suggestions, all are loose leaf, no teabags here! I loved the Marzipan and Pear. The menu is both comprehensive and interesting reading and they cater to many diet restrictions, I'm diabetic and appreciated the sugar free jam offered with the scones and these were served also from a a cart with a choice of jams for the day. The salad I had was really incredible, the tea sandwiches my friends raved about especially the egg and chicken with cranberry. We found the price to be very reasonable for the amount of food served, we were all 'stuffed' when we left. Fresh flowers on the tables and also on the plates with the food. The service was friendly, warm yet still professional. Some of the other reviews here say they arrived as customers and left as friends, exactly true. First time I’ve ever seen my friends hug the server and the owner when leaving. They helped celebrate my friends birthday like no other tea place we have been to and we always go to a tea place to celebrate our birthdays, from now on we will come here, and gave a beautiful birthday gift as well. This tea house really is 1st class and we can’t wait to return. Angie, Pat, Brenda and Jessica

This past week we had tea at the High Tea Cottage and I must say it was absolutely fantastic, could not have been better. From the Tea Trolley selection where we all smelled teas and each had our own pot to the delicious morsels of food and the generous potions served, even covering our diet requirements, it was all terrific. When our scones which were straight from the oven arrived we were treated to and offered 5 different preserves and curds from a lovely cart. Fresh flowers were presented with every course and our teacups were never empty, our teapots forever bottomless all with the most extremely attentive service. As expats living in LA we frequent tea houses monthly and both my wife and I agree on this, the High Tea Cottage is streets above all the others. We will become regulars and our daughters can not wait to have tea with Alice and the Mad Hatter in March. Thank you to a lovely ending to 2009 and a welcome start to 2010

Today, I was supposed to be at the High Tea Cottage for a bachelorette party. The bridesmaids had made the reservations months in advance, and had subsequently contacted the proprietors of the High Tea Cottage at least three times to confirm that yes, they were open on new years eve, yes our reservations were made, and that we were all ready to go. Today, we drove an hour to get to the High Tea Cottage, expecting to have our bachelorette party, only to find the Tea Room closed. There was no one there, we tried calling, and there was a note on the door saying they were closed. The bridesmaid who had made the reservation called before Christmas to again check on the reservation, and everything seemed fine. Said bridesmaid had also checked her e-mail before we left, nothing. We were not notified that the Tea Room would be closed. I have no idea if this is an excellent tea room or not - all I know is that they are quite lacking in customer service. They failed to honor a reservation, and notify those that had one that they would be closed and offer a time to reschedule.

      Tearoom response:

While I usually do not respond to reviews left this one I feel I must.<BR> <BR> On August 19th I received an email from Andrea Meyer stating “Id spoken with two people at your shop previously about a tea outing for a bride and a couple of her friends as a very girly take on a bachelorette outing for the bride on New Years Eve, Thursday, December 31st, during the day.” <BR> I responded to this email immediately and Andrea came back to me requesting a reservation for 6 or 7 guests for 12 noon on New Years Eve in August ’09 for a bachelorette Tea, we also spoke on the telephone the same day. After 3 emails, I asked her to keep in touch so I knew the gathering was still on. Her last email to me dated August 22nd 09 stated ' Ill be happy to re-confirm noon on New Years Eve as we get close' there was still 4 months to go and this was not a private function just a reservation with the guest number still to be confirmed. <BR> <BR> No confirmation or contact was made by email or telephone since her last contact of August 22. <BR> <BR> We receive many reservations via email and guests do not show, I didn't hear anything further from her to confirm the reservation, <BR> <BR> As we had no confirmed reservations for New Years Eve a decision was made to close for the two days, New Years Eve and New Years Day and this was posted on our website and also a sign was placed in our front window in mid December showing our Holiday hours. It is the clients obligation to confirm a reservation and number of guests, especially when asked to keep in touch and when you tell us in writing, “I'll be happy to re-confirm noon on New Years' Eve as we get closer”<BR> <BR> A telephone call from Andrea up until 8pm on December 30th would have ensured staff would have been there to serve you. I often open on days to accommodate guests, just this last Tuesday we opened for 6 guests and the Tuesday after Thanksgiving I opened especially for 2 ladies who could not come at any other time.<BR> <BR> I pride myself on accommodating guests; our customer service is known to be very personal, professional and specialized. When I read the 2 reviews posted here I immediately emailed Andrea Meyer and then telephoned her to be told, they were in the middle of THE WEDDING! Funny all her emails and the reviews here mention bridal bachelorette party, perhaps with all the excitement of the wedding being held on New Years Eve as well, you simply forgot to confirm your tea reservation to celebrate the bachelorette Tea, being held on the same day as the wedding. <BR> <BR> I wish you a very happy 2010.<BR> Thank you<BR> Jenn

I was lucky enough to enjoy tea at this 'Tea Spa' last Saturday. One member of my party was handicapped, in a wheel chair and required much assistance, while another required the use of a walker. As soon as I returned home, I sent off the following note to the proprietor: I was in that high maintenance foursome at your wonderful cottage for Tea today. I just had to write and thank you for a magical afternoon. Being passionate about tea, the beverage, and tea, the meal, I have been to many of the tea houses in the Southland, as well as to hotels that serve afternoon tea. None compares with your establishment. You provide all the elegant and formal elements of a festive cream tea, and yet, there is nothing pretentious about the experience. Your charming sense of humor and whimsy adds just the right spice to the proceedings. The uniqueness and charm of your presentation was so appreciated by our party, especially the presentation and selection of the teas and the serving of the scones. The unexpected addition of the (holiday) gifts was delightful. They were tasteful and lovely. You even added an extra one in recognition of my birthday! My friend Paula was the gal in the wheelchair. Getting out and about is getting harder and harder, but you and your staff made every effort to make our visit comfortable. You truly have a gem in your employee, Carlos. His gentleness, patience and kindness were humbling. I am sorry that we took him away from his regular duties for so long. Many thanks to you, Sheree and Carlos from one who intends to become a regular!!

Fantastic, what an experience, I have had tea at most of the Tea establishments shown on Tea Map in the greater Los Angeles area and this place stands alone, it's no wonder they are #1 in California and were also voted #1 in the greater Los Angeles area by the viewers of MyFOX LA. This place is exceptional. On arrival our names were on a welcome side outside, from the minute we entered we were warmly welcomed and treated like royalty. The have a tea cart and we were able to smell teas, this took us all away from our traditional English Breakfast and Earl Grey and introduced us to teas we would never dream of ordering if we hadn't been able to smell them beforehand. The menu is both informative and comprehensive offering and accommodating all diet requirements, they even have a vegan selection. Our scones were light, fluffy and straight from the oven served from a jam cart where we were actually given 5 selections of jams and curds to pick from. The food is exceptionally fresh with beautiful presentation including fresh flowers. The service is professional and friendly and the cottage clean and decorated beautifully for the holidays, you can tell everyone loves to be there. We had the Holiday Duchess Tea and the presentation og the exquisite jewelry gift at the end left us all speechless. This is a first class act which other Tea Houses don't even come close to, you arrive as customers and leave as friends, a rare gift in today's world. Make reservations as they get busy! Thank you High Tea Cottage for an absolutely delightful afternoon spent in your little slice of Tea heaven. Evette and the girls.

I had the most enjoyable afternoon here this week in what can only be described as a very festive, charming cottage. My girlfriend and I both had the Holiday Celebration Tea and it was absolutely delicious, presented beautifully with superb service and an added bonus of a magnificent jewelry gift given to us both at the conclusion of the meal. The thoughtfulness that went into our afternoon by Jenn was very much appreciated and all the little extra touches didn't go unnoticed. This is with out a doubt one of the most outstanding eating establishments around and not just for Tea. Ou Teas were offered to us from a Tea cart, (not just listed in a menu) where we could smell the teas and we found it both interesting and enjoyable to actually smell a Tea before choosing. It is easy to see why this establishment has been voted number one Tea House in Los Angeles by Fox 11 TV and number one in California by the readers of Tea Map, we agree 100%.

Outstanding Tea House tucked away in Woodland Hills, everything is made to order with just out of the oven scones, made from scratch served from a delightful preserve cart offering 5 jams that change weekly. Following the recommendation of a friend I took my 15 yr old daughter and 2 of her friends to this tearoom for the start of Senior High. To my surprise all of the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and importantly were totally satisfied. It started with our welcome and the seating, the choice of teas which the girls were helped in their selection by the owner (thanks Jen). The choice of food was more difficult, mainly due to the fact that there was so much to choose from, with the food itself (3 courses) both fresh and in large quantities being more than expected. In fact Jen checked a number of times to make sure that the girls had enough to eat! The girls couldn't believe the experience. The ultimate was when Shanna told a friend who rang her cell to call back later as she was at High Tea! I would recommend the High Tea Cottage to all those who are looking for something beyond a cup of tea and the so called finger foods. The relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and choice of goodies are first rate. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. P.S. ask for Horatio!

We had a lovely experience at High Tea Cottage. The antique china was beautiful (over 22 hundred years old!) and the food was marvellous. Meeting Jenn, the proprietor, was a nice experience as well, since she regaled us with a charming tale about a kitten teapot. The food was delicious, the scones flakey and tender, the sandwich combinations each a good complement to one another. It's a tiny place, so the dining experience is very intimate and I expect could feel a bit crowded if a full house, but you have to admire what they've done in such a small footprint. The service was personal and friendly. I really have no complaints, except that their selection of teas is extensive and being offered canisters to smell didn't help me understand what variations to expect in taste. I think it would be useful to have a little more description on the menu of each tea and its nuances. You're still probably going to want to sniff couple to decide! That's the only reason I gave less than 'excellent' for the tea preparation. The tea I picked was full-bodied and delicious and I loved how it was presented and the sugar/cream offered on the table. A wonderful experience and we'll be back with friends and family!

this was the perfect afternoon. i can only add to all the wonderful reviews already posted here by saying that this was an all around terrific experience. i have been to the high tea at the bel air hotel and after that experience was a bit turned off. bad food, packaged teas and the service was terrible (not to mention sky high prices). but at high tea cottage all the many details -- from the flowers to the delicate china to the lush hanging vines out back -- all add up to make this the real deal. the best part is jenn, the owner, who makes you feel like a personal guest in her home. she's warm and lovely and engages you in conversation about the teas and her homeland that is so fun. this is a place to go for special occasions as well as those much needed breaks from hectic LA . an intelligent tea house with great food and the perfect atmosphere.

High Tea Cottage is a fabulous experience from the beginning to end. You start by choosing a variety of teas to smell in an effort to find the perfect tea for you. Then follow with the most delectable sandwiches, scones and deserts. It's an afternoon of pure pleasure and pampering by the great staff.

It is rare to be treated as a valued friend, rather than a 'customer,' but the staff at High Tea Cottage does just that. The food, tea & service were excellent & the setting is delightful. You easily forget you are having tea surrounded by a busy, business district. We will keep coming back again and again for this experience.

I have ben to the High Tea Cottage three times now, most recently to a private function last Sunday, and I believe that this establishment gives extremely good value for money. The standard of service is unique among tea houses I have been to, especially the owners Jenn and Ken, although the other staff are not far behind. As many of the contributors to these comments have mentioned the food has a large variety of options, is always fresh, tasty, and presented in a eye-catching manner. Similarly with the teas, each time I have come the number of choices have increased, with some really unique flavors, and the teas are always presented in an entertaining and informative manner. I can only suggest that if you haven't done so go to the High Tea cottage and judge for yourself. If you are not a total grouch I think you will agree it is a great place to enjoy 1st rate food, service and have a fully relaxing experience at the same time. Number 1 in my book.

Overtly expensive for what is served. Sandwhiches were nothing special. The tea itself was fantastic! We were a little late but we called in. No one gave us trouble and I had heard that this place will throw you out if you're 15 minutes late. When we arrived the establishment was empty. It eventually filled up with patron and became very noisy. I don't think I'll be back. I might buy the tea leaves if they sell them but I won't stay for tea.

I took my girlfriend for tea here on Saturday, and much to my surprise we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. From the momonet we walked in we were made welcome, the menus are comprehensive (very), the teas were a real 'eye opener' both the explanations of their characteristics, and the aromas of the ones we previewed. My girlfriend, being a vegetarian had what she thought would be the usual rubbish dressed up as limp salad. Instead she got what could only be described as a banquet; with a magnificent 'signature' salad including pineapple, strawberries, beets, tomato, cucumbers, passionfruit and something we didn't know but tasted magnificent. As well she had not one or two but 4 Aussie parsties. I had the sandwiches which not only were fresh and very tasty but I actually got more than I could eat. The staff were friendly and the other people at the tables seemed to be as satisfied as what we were. Would I go back - most surely and I think I'll take my Mom as well. Really recommended. Sean

There are Tea Rooms and then there are TEA ROOMS this one in my opinion is one of the best in the country. I hosted a luncheon for a friends birthday and it was magnificent! Every menu item is fresh, tasty and presented like a Tea should be presented with fresh flowers and created with much love. My girl friends and I were very impressed with the ambiance, table settings, collection of teas offered, presentation of food and overall experience. We just loved the Lady Hamilton china and the cute tea cozies! Very much appreciated. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon. Most highly recommended!

While on a recent trip to the Los Angeles area we visited the top listed Tea Houses in the area as listed here on TeaMap. One particular establishment stood out way above all the rest, the High Tea Cottage! Here is a place where the owners really know how to do and offer a true High Tea experience! We were treated to a Royal celebration where we were not rushed and treated like Royalty ourselves. This little gem is the best the west has to offer from food to service from presentation to over 100 teas offered, (and we were able to smell many of them before selecting our bottomless pots) you can't get better than this. Only wish my family lived closed and we would be regular customers, we will just have to wait for our next visit to Los Angeles. Thank you Jenn and Ken you made this the highlight of our trip and we love you for that. Gerri, Steven and Chloe.

The food is freshly made to order, tasty with outstanding presentation and exceptionaly good knowledgeable, friendly service. This quaint, charming and welcoming tea room enchanted us from the moment we walked up to the door. We were greeted first by a sign welcoming our party, then by Ken, the owner who showed us to our table. Ken treated us to an explanation of the origins and benefits of several types of tea that piqued our interests. Then Jenn and he brought out several varieties in jars, which we were allowed to enjoy by aroma, and tried to guess each blend. My 13-year-old niece was reluctant to have any tea -- this being her first true tea experience, but was delighted with the color and flavor of her cranberry-apple iced tea, pressed by Jenn at the table. My Bourbon vanilla was lovely, enhanced by the adorable tea cozy and the fine English bone china I received upon ordering the Royal High Tea. We were tempted to try some of the nontraditional tea meals that included Australian pasties for instance, but stuck with the traditional or English teas. The assortment of sandwiches was fresh and delicious; our favorite was the smoked salmon. The quiche, served with the Royal tea, was light and full of vegetables, not eggy. We snapped photos of the scone tray and Jenn serving us our fresh-baked scones with an assortment of jams and perfect clotted cream. My niece enjoyed the few bites she took of my Queen Elizabeth ginger cake (Jenn secrets the recipe, given to her by a butler of the Royal Mum), topped by the world's largest, ripest strawberry. The petit fours were delightful -- Jenn described the origin and ingredients of each treat. Our experience was topped off with a toasting glass of sparkling cider to celebrate a wonderful afternoon. We thoroughly enjoyed our chats with our personable hosts, especially Ken's anecdotes of Australia. An especially thoughtful touch came when Jenn surprised my niece with a boxed locket from the 'Tea Fairy' to remember her first tea by. We only wish this wonderful cottage were closer to the south bay, but it was well worth the drive for a special and memorable occasion.

I heard about this place from some Aussie friends and they said they serve true Aussie food, we were sceptical but thought we would give this a go, sure enough they offer the real deal, an Australian Tea Classic. It was fantastic! Meat Pies from home, served with the most beautiful tasty organic salad, scones just like my Mum makes and finished off with a true Pavlova just like my Gran makes at home in Brisbane. It was a most amazing meal and all served on Royal Albert china. I had some of the most beautiful Caramel tea ever and the lavender lemonade is thirst quenching, tasty and ice cold. My American friends had a 3 course tea, Traditional with little Tea sandwiches, scones from just out of the oven and desserts and they all said it was the best. Thank you High Tea Cottage for adding Australia to your list of internationl cuisine served at the cottage, it was jsut as good as a trip home and very authenitic. I will come back agin soon and tell all the Aussies in town. Jenn its amazing!

For their first time, I literally dragged my two teenage grandsons, their friend begging & screaming, along with my granddaughter and my daughter to visit your lovely tea house. As with my previous visit, the beautiful china settings & silverware, atmosphere and lovely music all added to a delightful 2-hour afternoon (where did the time go). To my absolute surprise, the boys devoured the delicious sandwiches (thank you for replacing the ham & mustard with chicken), marvelous quiche and those desserts (to die for!!). The assortment of teas we all shared were marvelous & that special flower tea Jenn brought out especially hit the spot with my grandson, Danny. The cider at the end had just the right ending touch. As always, the service was top notch and they all want to come back. Thank you so very much!

We both had the Traditional TeaTime and the sandwiches were so fresh it was as if the bread was just baked. Our favorites were the chicken and the smoked salmon. Enjoyed a lovely afternoon this past weekend and can’t wait to return! The Royal High Tea was just perfect, the tea fare was quite wonderful, it's hard to choose our favorite, the melt in your mouth ginger cake, the best scones ever or the tasty finger sandwiches, great selection of unusual teas and the added bonus of smelling the aromas before our selection make this one of the best tea houses I have been to. The owners are very hands on, friendly and tea aficionados. One of my guests was very, very fussy about her diet and was reluctant to join us, Jen the owner accommodated her requests with ease, now she is asking when are we going back, which we are currently planning. We spent an afternoon there with never a mention of vacating the table as other tea establishments do. Highly recommend this cottage but be sure to make reservations.

It's official, I have found the best teahouse in the San Fernando Valley!! Everything about this teahouse is absolutely charming and inviting, that is inclusive of the two owners - Jenn and Ken. They greated us with open arms and immediately made us feel at home. After glancing at the menu, we opted to go with the Royal High Tea which is served on Lady Hamilton China and comes with a story based on the china's history. Everything about the experience was spectacular - the sandwiches were fresh, the scones were baked to perfection, the jams were homemade, the quiche was delightful, the assortment of desserts were unbelievable and the ginger cake.. out of this world. The ginger cake was worth the price of the entire tea. You must try this heavenly pastry. All in all the experience was first class. Our tea cups were never empty, the pot was ALWAYS refilled and we never needed to ask for anything. Someone was always there to assist. We were treated like guests, not like customers. My party was there for hours and not once did we feel pressured to surrender the table. It was made very clear that we were to sit back, enjoy ourselves and enjoy the ceremony of high tea. I can't wait to return and do it all over again!!

My lady friend really wanted me to go have tea, I always imagined this to be a girl thing so always found excuses but her birthday came and she wouldn't take no for an answer, the more I suggested other options the more she wouldn't change her mind so reluctantly I took her to tea. As we are Vegans I decided to eat before going and had already decided this would be one experience I would not enjoy, still I had to make her happy. Much to my surprise, this turned out to be an experience I will not forget! The inside of the tea shop is warm and inviting, not frilly as I expected. When I told our butler 'we are vegans' I was ready for a problem or 2, 'not a problem' she said, we ordered the Traditional Teatime and waited for our hot tea to be served. The tea was great, I still can't believe tea can taste so good. When our sandwiches came, here was a full plate of the most delicious looking things and they tasted really, NO REALLY great! Pineapple with figs, tomato and cranberry, cucumber and banana, I've never had a banana sandwich before. They were absolutely delicious......is this whats tea is about, I settled back listening to Rod Stewart serenade us, sipping a delicate brew and now wishing I hadn't eaten before coming! The scones came on a cart with jams and we were given a vegetable spread insted of the traditional cream, I though for sure they would have difficulties with the sweets but we received a beautiful plate of chocolate cups with tropical fruit compote, lemon tarts and shortbreads all vegan, I am delighted to say this was an afternoon I certinaly didn't expect and it has become a highlight of our great things to do together. We have been back since to have lunch and we both had the most amazing salads with fresh fruits, candied pecans and walnuts, apricot and steamed baby beets. The food here is presented well and taste as delicious as it looks. This is definitely a place where a guy can take a date and they definitely go all out to accommodate vegans. Highly recommend 5 stars all the way!

Cherie went out of her way to accommodate my diet requests and also allowed us to see and smell the aromas of the teas prior to ordering, this was very enjoyable, helpful and enlightening. The Royal High Tea was spectacular with the pretty flowers and overall presentation. The Lady Hamilton china is glorious, to be served on china so delicate was a treat all to itself We had a wonderful time visiting, we were not rushed as each course was served with impeccable timing and service. Many other Tea establishments serve all at once, not here - our sandwiches were made to order so were as fresh as fresh could be, our scones hot and presented on a preserve cart with 4 different jams for us to choose from, the ginger cake just melted in my mouth and the desserts scrumptious and cold. This is an absolute experience to enjoy and I agree with Jos 05/18/09 yes it is much better than the 4 Seasons and also the Ritz Carlton. Thank you very much indeed for an absolutely relaxing and indulgent afternoon of pure pleasure.

I am in the States from London visiting a friend. This past Monday we took Tea here. We were greeted by an absolutely stunning and charming young woman who politely introduced herself as Staci our butler. She was welcoming, gorgeous, and bright with an easy warmth and friendliness. She lead us to a beautiful table and proceeded to make us feel as though we were royalty from start to finish. If not for an American accent I would have thought her British as the service followed tradition to the letter. She was calm and quiet yet easily conversational when spoken to. Although there were four to five other sittings, Staci was attentive and able to make us feel as if we were the only ones present. Sandwiches and scones were delicious. High tea was simply an excellent experience on Monday and certainly the highlight of my visit to Los Angeles. Hats off to the owners of High Tea Cottage. I sincerely hope to have the pleasure of Staci's service again.

From the moment we sat down with the lovely hand written name card and note from the owner Jenn, magnificent glass of cold refreshing chocolate iced tea our server was attentive, charming and very nice to us, the tea was wonderful, best Lobster Bisque I have ever tasted, very tasty tea sandwiches especially the chicken croissant, hot scones from the oven an incredible delectable dessert called a 'pavalova'and never ending pots of hot tea. The best of all we were not rushed and the experience overall lasted 3 hours, I didn't want to leave, we were not rushed out like other tea houses I frequently go to. I especially appreciated the flowers from the staff and the jewelry gift from the owner Jenn, who I had never met before yesterday was totally unexpected. Now besides the photos from the afternoon I have a lovely piece of jewelry to wear and remind me of the nicest Mother's Day ever spent with my daughter and a new bunch of warm friends at the High Tea Cottage.

I attended a Red Hat Tea a few weeks ago and I have to say this was by far the very best Tea party we have ever been to, we go to Tea a lot in the Los Angeles, Ventura County and OC areas and this one topped them all absolutely EXCELLENT!

This tea house is outstanding, my fiends and I spent the afternoon there earlier this week and we felt like we had been to a spa! Relaxing, enjoyable and rewarding experience, I especially liked the opportunity of having the teas presented to us before ordering. Better than all the other tea spots in LA and I've been to all listed on teamap. Very VERY good, what a pleasure to have exceptional service, tasty food and a wonderful selection of china.

Really is a wonderful Teatime experience, everything is so fresh and beautifully presented, I have dietary restrictions and can not eat many things, their salads are all organic and the presentation of the salad I had was exceptional, not even in the finest hotels have I had a meal so tasty and delicious. My gentlemen friend thoroughly enjoyed his 1st tea and has even asked 'when are we going back?' and we shall quite soon. Keep smiling girls, we really did enjoy your oasis of heaven,

We just love this place what a lovely experience, the best is being able to smell the aromas of the teas and see them before ordering. Very quaint inside, the food presentation tastes as good as it looks with excellent friendly service, our butler Will was an absolute gem. We loved the whole experience at the high Tea Cottage, most beautiful china I have ever seen in a Tea House, a lovely way to spend an afternoon and I forgot to mention exceptionally clean too! I go to Tea all over the state so it is not unusual for us to drive 350 miles, we just love it and we just LOVED this place. In fact this is the very best Tea establishment in the state of California. Everything was fantastic really AWESOME!, the food tasted yummy, a good overall selection of teas are offered we were able to see and smell them before ordering, the service was wonderful and the overall presentation beautiful. Their china is magnificent. It was well worth the long drive and the 'doggy bag' a welcome snack on the road home. What a lovely way to spend a birthday. Thank you, we will return.

Today my friend and I had our first experience of the High Tea Cottage. As a man I always thought High Tea was strictly for ladies however today I found it is just my cup of tea. This is an amazing experience and one men should indulge in more often. The food presentation was amazing, the quality and quantity of the menu I ordered really terrific and I was not the least bit hungry when I left there at 5pm today. This is a beautiful way to show that special lady you care, I highly recommend the High Tea experience and the Royal Bengal Tiger tea to all you guys out there, it was fabulous!

Really lovely, we were very surprised when we walked into this place, the aromas of scones cooking greeted us, patrons were dressed verynicely, the staff were in formal waer with vests and bowties and the tables decorated with linens, crystal fresh flowers and beautiful china. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The food was amazing, well presented and very, very fresh. They had a great selection of Tea, I had the Island coconut and my husband Bengal Tiger, the pots were hot and constantly poured for us and refreshed. This is a top notch establishment, make reservations, we couldn't get in for 2 weeks but it was well worth the wait. Highly Recommend.

As a former employee of the High Tea Cottage, I happened to come back to check TeaMap. I must interject about the review of 4/16, because Jenn and Ken are so nice I'm sure they will not comment. A party of ten ordering a la carte (and even splitting a tea) is VERY difficult to prepare and serve. I understand that someone inexperienced in tea may not comprehend this, but as I learned in serving and preparing tea service, it really is. There is no way Jenn would have allowed the option of a la carte for such a large party. Additionally, I would like to add that Jenn puts her heart and soul into her work, and if you have your party here, you will not be disappointed. I have seen your food and tea being prepared and served and I know firsthand that you will not experience anything finer in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Cherie is one of the nicest people I have ever met. You are in good hands at the High Tea Cottage. I miss it!

Oh... MY GOODNESS ! ! ! My 64th birthday was spent in the MOST PERFECT fashion. This darling cottage had my name printed in a gold frame as I entered with my girls. A stunning man greeted us & spent a wonderful time with us telling us all about their teas, letting us smell them before ordering them and told of a MARVELOUS story of the making of the china I would be eating off of. They gave me a gorgeous gift at the end of the meal and invited us to attend a concert the following afternoon. HONESTLY ! ! ! I haven't spent a more happy time than these past 2 days at the HIGH TEA COTTAGE. I will be back many, many times & have already passed on the marvelous time we had to MANY friends who already have made reservations to attend. May Jesus bless this very happy & gorgeous tea room. AMEN!

Last Sunday I was taken to the High Tea Cottage by a friend to the Spring Concert Series. Having never been to this tea house I didn’t know what to expect except it was a concert. From the moment I arrived I was surprised, it’s a quaint freestanding building what I believe was once a small house now converted to the most charming tea house. When we walked inside we were greeted by a lovely English lady asked our names and introduced to other guests who had arrived. At 2.30pm they served delightful hot and cold savories and appetizers and a “Chocolate Iced Tea” never before have I had a chocolate tea and it is something I would never order but as offered I tried it and could not believe the taste, like fine nectar! The concert started at 3pm with the owner of the business welcoming us all and introducing the duo who were performing, They were fantastic, Kim and Al, they had us singing along, clapping to the music from the 50’s and 60’s which brought back many memories. At interval we were served another lot of cold beverages while all the attendees mingled like old friends not just new acquaintances at a concert, we all settled back for the second half of an absolutely delightful interlude of music favorites. Every guest seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves and the entertainer’s were superb. Once the concert was over we were shown to individual tables and a full afternoon tea was served from beautiful tea sandwiches cucumber, smoked salmon, delectable chicken with cranberries to ham and curried egg salad. It didn’t stop there, fresh hot scones with lashings of jam, lemon curd and cream and to top it off, small delicate dessert were served and I forgot to mention beautiful hot tea. All the guests were very complimentary of the concert and the tea and I have to say that I have not spent such a wonderful, enjoyable Sunday afternoon for many, many years, If you get the chance to attend one of the Spring Concert Series at the High Tea Cottage definitely go, you will be in for a treat!

I had tea here a couple of weeks ago as a member of a tea aficionado group and everyone then was delighted on arrival in finding the venue was none other than a free standing cottage as such a building feels intimate and cozy yet the hosts, make you feel like they are entertaining royalty. The interior is spotless and table service is fresh and clean. On both occasions, I could only praised the food, service, general appearance and cleanliness of the place. The food is finely made, the sandwiches coming to the table are just off the cutting board and nothing is stored, no short cuts are used or skimping on quality and effort. Jenn and Ken seem to have the service down to a science as our tea cups were constantly filled without requesting it. I'm a Londoner and was raised on being taken out to tea and High Tea Cottage lives up to everything you should come to expect when going out to tea. I read the awful comments of Sue on 4/16/09 and I can't understand what could possibly inspire such remarks as Jenn and Ken are #A1 professionals and can be proud of what they've created in Woodland Hills. I can't wait to go back for tea #3...and #4...etc., etc., etc..

I held a tea here for two friends birthdays, there were ten of us in total. I was greeted by a lovely welcome sign with our names which was a great touch. I was pleasantly surprised by the charm of the tea house, the quality of the food (though the scones are tiny and the sandwiches smaller than I am accustomed to), the table, and our server. However, despite being with a very kind and polite group of friends the owner, Jen was absolutely rude to us. She was luke warm to me when I walked in and told her how charming the tea house was...I didn't consider it until she snapped at me in front of the group about some emails that I didn't recall (she tracked me to the bathroom later and pushed them into my face), I had said in advance that we would order ala carte, but she presented the whole tea menu encouraging the very expensive royal tea, and when everyone started ordering different tea/meals, she gave me grief. Fair enough that it would take three hours (more time than we had) and be labor intensive for her, so we tried to consolidate. The menu was confusing and she snapped at my guests who asked questions about it, especially the two friends who decided to split one of the tea menu offerings. They got snapped at a few times (because of the split?). No matter how polite I tried to be, and how many thank you's I offered, I was met with a cold shoulder. The waiter was incredible though. It became so awkward that my friends started to compare her to the 'Soup Nazi' on the famous Seinfeld episode, or a severe headmistress. I spent nearly $500 on the experience and walked out of there feeling full, but awful! I would love to go back, but only if someone else (who understands being kind and gracious to your customers) takes over.

Today's tea was the best I've ever experienced as the hosts go overboard to make sure the service is impeccable. Not once did I have to look around for service, the tea was poured nonstop. I went to visit the tea room for the first time last week. My mother was visiting from out of the country and I wanted to take her to a tea house to spend a relaxing afternoon together. We got just that. The tea selection is absolutely amazing! We were brought the tea leaves to smell. The menu was a bit pricey, but the tea was excellent and the food was quite good as well. I loved the homemade preserves to choose from for the scones. The service was probably the best I have ever had at a tea room. I have been coming to this Tea House since they opened, and have been watching it grow, I have always found it to be excellent. They have a a really good selection of over 60 different varieties of tea, all premium loose leaf. The menu is complete with English, French and Australian selection as well as traditional High Tea representation. The curried egg and chicken tea sandwiches are the best many of us have ever tasted. The tables are always set with fresh flowers, the china is exquisite and the food presentation reminiscent of the finest hotels with fresh flowers on the plates. They offer lump sugar, milk not half and half as many other places do and fresh lemon. A preserve cart is brought to the table to choose the accompaniment to your scones and they are freshly baked, warm and tasty. The desserts are all made on the premises and we always take home a to go box as there is so much food served. Unlike many of the other tea establishments, the food is not all served at once but comes in courses to savor and enjoy every mouthful. You need to allow about 2 hours when going to enjoy the ambiance and this little oasis. The service is professional and friendly and the menu is always explained fully to new guests I take. I highly recommend the High Tea Cottage over any other in Los Angeles County, and we have been to most over the years, go see for yourself and if you have the Royal High Tea served on the Lady Hamilton china, ask Dr. Ken to tell you the story behind it, it is absolutely fascinating. Looking forward to many, many more memorable occasions.

The teas Jenn the owner suggested were so good we actually got some to take home. They even packed the leftover desserts for us to take with us. I live in Toronto Canada and have a son in Los Angeles, daughters in Chicago and Atlanta, sister in New York and family in Kent; I have had High Tea all over Canada, the US and on trips to England. I consider myself to very experienced if not somewhat knowledgeable on this subject matter. My daughter in law took me to High Tea while enjoying the Christmas season with my son and family. The High Tea Cottage was more than expected and I have to say one of the loveliest experiences I have ever enjoyed at Tea. The ambiance was extremely pleasurable while the food scrumptious and delightful. I tried two new teas for me, Tangiers Lemon a white tea and Belgium Chocolate a red, while both were extremely different they were magnificent! Holly had the Royal High Tea and I ordered the Holiday Celebration, both served on the Lady Hamilton china, never before have I had such magnificent china in a commercial tea room! The food was presented like a 5 star hotel, the tea sandwiches, hot scones were scrumptious and I loved the preserve cart with 4 different jams. Service was friendly while professional and we wanted for nothing. A gorgeous piece of jewelry came as the keepsake gift with the Holiday Celebration Tea, already friends have asked where it came from. Cannot say thank you enough to the lovely couple, Ken and Jenny who charmed us. Happy New Year and thank you for an absolutely perfect afternoon spent at your beautiful High Tea Cottage, WE WILL RETURN AGAIN!

My wife and I visited this establishment over the holiday period. The tearoom was very full and despite the amount of work the staff had, we were greeted as if we were family. The ladies serving us (pleasantly mature) put us at our ease, the large menu and huge tea options were explained to our satisfaction and my wife's initial selection of tea was amended by subtly pointed out that there were better tasting teas available. The food was very fresh, having been prepared after we had ordered, and tasty. The tea was very good and we were both surprised how much we drank We had a very pleasant afternoon and we both thought that the check was very reasonable, given the quality (and quantity) of the food we ate and the very fine (and matching) antique china we had. As we had come on the recommendation of a friend (thanks Fred) we came away very impressed. Even the City car park at the end of the block was only a 3 minute walk. Highly recommended.

A truly wonderful experience celebrating my Grand-daughter's 12th birthday. Ms. McGrath, the owner manager is a very hands on person. She and her staff saw to it that our Hi Tea was memorable. The choice of teas she recommended for our group was perfect. We were brought the huge jars to experience the smell first. Our Royal High Tea began with lovely tea sandwiches, followed by vegeterian Quiche then on to the best scones served beautifully with cream and delicious preserves. At that time, we were served sparkling cider in Champagne flutes then a lovely treat of just baked petite ginger cake. Throughout, new pots of hot tea of different varieties were served and we had fun deciding which was our favorite. After a luxurious relaxing two hours, beautiful dishes of sweet morsels (a sampling of at least 6 unique petite desserts of cake, berries, cream, chocolate all of which were delicious and beautifully presented. I received messages from my grand-daughter and her friends attesting to the wonderful experience we all had at High Tea Cottage. We'll be back. Roberta January 5,2009

Visiting Los Angeles from New York for the holidays I was taken to this establishment for tea, only wish I lived in the area, it was fabulous, I felt like I'd been to a spa for the afternoon, didn't want to leave. Excellent selection of loose teas, wonderful food, service and ambiance. Will definately be back before I leave. Thank you to the owners for a lovely start to the 2008/09 holiday season.

My sister had a birthday party this past weekend and I have to say it was absolutely EXCELLENT! We all entered the cottage to the smell of baking scones, our table was set beautifully and the hostess was very friendly. The owner personally served us and she was very professional and accommodating with our 'picky' diets. We were given teas to smell and as I like caramel she suggested the Mocca Rocca, it was so good I took some home and have been drinking it over the holidays. Ignore the negative reviews, this tea house is a must to visit, we will be back again and again, oh the tea sandwiches were as fresh as fresh could be with lovely flower presentation, the scones better than they smelled when we entered and the service impectable. My sister even was given a birthday gift from the owner. Absolute first class act!!!

Tea map is certainly not a place where negative comments should lie. Considering the true divinity of a tea, BUT I could not help myself with this particular tea house. I was looking forward to a true relaxing and memorable experience. Unfortunately my guest and I did not. Expecting our arrival, as they should with reservations I was made to feel that I was certainly not welcome and unexpected. I have lived in Woodland Hills for more than 25 years and have visited many teas in and out of state; sadly this by far was the worst experience I have ever had! I’m almost thankful that I was not sat for an Afternoon Tea. I hope the owner reads this and takes into consideration that customer service is key when running a business regardless of the situation or region you are in.

On searching the web for a local tea house I came across this site and a local establishment. I tried to make reservations for the last 2 weekends to find they were totally booked out so took a Friday instead. Reading the reviews here I wasn’t quite sure what to expect so went with skepticism. This we all found; the building is a small house, my guests and I were greeted at the door with “Hello, happy holidays and welcome to the High Tea Cottage”, charming. Our table had my name on it, we were seated, asked if we would like iced lemon water and napkins placed in our laps. The table was beautifully set with matching china, fresh flowers and crystal glasses for water. So far so good! Then the server came back with wonderful iced lemon water and asked if we had been before. We all answered no and she suggested we choose teas. There were over 60 to look at with many names I didn’t recognize, I’m an Earl Grey girl for the past 55 years. The server suggested we not have what we have at home, as we can have that, at home, then 1 by 1 we were brought teas to smell and hear a little of the history, this was wonderful, we must have been offered over 20 teas by the time we each selected, each one having something different. The teas came in their own little pots with covers and extremely hot. The server told us everything is made to order then went on to explain the menu, make suggestions and offer to substitute our dietary needs, we gave our selections and she left. She returned shortly later to ask how we were enjoying the teas and topped up our cups. When the food arrived we were again presently surprised, lovely, beautiful presentation, fresh flowers on every plate, again our teas were re poured and pots taken away for refilling and returned piping hot. When we finished our little sandwiches, the server took away all the plates, brushed up the crumbs on the table with a small pan and brush and placed clean plates with small silver knives for scones A cart arrived with 3 preserves and lemon curd and we had a choice of 2 each served in a quaint 3 part dish with thick cream. The cart was beautifully presented again with fresh flowers and the scones much to everyone delight were hot and delicious. Again the server refilled our cups with the exception of mine that had gone cold from talking and she offered to empty it so I could have fresh hot tea. After our scones, the table was cleared of all dirty plates, and again clean plates were placed with little forks for desserts, they call them “sweet morsels”. The desserts came, yes beautifully presented, again with fresh flowers and again our teas were re heated and poured. I looked at all the other tables with guests and they were receiving the same service. I asked the server do they always replace the china, pour the teas and reheat the tea and she said 'yes'. Over all our experience was excellent, the service was professional and friendly, the server was knowledgeable of the teas, accommodating on the menu and attentive. When we were ready to leave we thanked her for a delightful afternoon and asked her name, “Jenn”, this was the owner. She has a delightful, very cultured accent which I and my guests found to be very engaging; some may take it as aloofness however we did not. My comment is to ignore the rudeness and bitterness of the negative reviews, on re reading them tonight after visiting the High Tea Cottage, I am sure there would be another side to their review. Highly recommended by 6 rather demanding older ladies!

This is a beautiful tea cottage; the food is excellent; the service is great; fresh flowers on the plates and very hot tea. Choose from over 50 varieties and flavors. We were seated and waiting to be served but the owner's attitude was so incredibly rude and obnoxious, and lacking in any semblance of civility, that we got up and left...We couldn't exit her establishment fast enough. The really sad thing is that the woman appears to be completly unaware of how obnoxious she is in dealing with patrons.

My wife and myself hosted our daughter's 18 birthday celebration for her college friends at the High Tea Cottage recently. My wife found the facility via Tea Map. I was sceptical when I read the services they provided, however, I was pleasently surprised that not only did the owner meet all the critia but she went out of her way to make this very special function for our daughter an extremely memorable occassion. All the girls expressed without reservation their joy at the occassion and nobody was hungry at the end of the meal, as witnessed by the 3 'to-go-boxes' we took away with us. Clara and I returned to the High Tea Cottage with our family members from Virginia the Friday following Thanksgiving, although Jenn and her staff were busy, she took the time to not only ask us about our daughter's other celebrations but also make our in-laws welcome. As my sister-in-law is a vegan, she went out of her way to accomodate her eating requirements. Given a couple of the more recent reviews, I can only say that both our visits to the High Tea Cottage were completely different from those. We have no hesitation in both returning to the High Tea Cottage and developing our relationship with Jenn and Dr. Ken and recommending that other people try their offerings for themselves.

Every Thanksgiving weekend the girls in my family get together for tea. This was our 4th and very best year. The High Tea Cottage was nothing less than superior to any other teahouse we've visited. Jenn was absolutely the most friendly and gracious hostess. She explained each of the teas, never rushed us through and treated our special occasion like it was her own. The food was beautifully prepared and was delicious. I think our annual tea will be at this location forever! Thanks Jenn!

I have been frequenting this tea establishment for the past 12 months and driving from the Westside to go there. The atmosphere is very cozy, a casual yet sophisticated elegance touches every detail with the colors and details of the décor. This tea house is unique in a way that is seldom found in a mass-market world. The owners have gone a long way toward putting their stamp on their tea shop where every last detail has been considered. The tea to the food presentation and the service, everything is always top notch. The teas are phenomenal, always piping hot and presented with the cutest cozies. There is an exceptionally large menu to choose from as well. While a few reviewers didn't think very highly of the owners, Jenn McGrath and Dr. Ken, I and many others if you read the reviews already posted here, have found them to be extremely friendly, very warm, professional, accommodating and generous. Dr. Ken is recovering from a series of strokes and has made the tea establishment his new career, for which I and many other have found delightful, while Jenn is a 3 time cancer survivor. Perhaps their world travels and life experiences has other patrons rather envious, I personally and many others love to hear of their worldly experiences. Go experience for yourself, this truly is a magnificent tea house.

Horrible tea room. Beyond repulsive service. I don't understand how the owners of this tea house are able to run a business with such poor customer service. It baffles my mind. I can't comment on the quality of food or tea as we never got beyond being seated and I can say for a fact I'll never go back to find out just how 'authentic' it may be. Arriving 15 minutes late on a Friday afternoon due to heavy traffic, we were bluntly told by the owner, after being seated, we wouldn't be served because we were too late....even though there was 15 minutes before the final seating and there wasn't a single person in the establishment. I understand if, as the owner, you want to close up early. What I don't understand is, must you be so RUDE in going about kicking us out? May I remind you, you're running a tea room, which is as much about creating a graceful, refined and polite atmosphere as it is about what is served. My Can adian grandmother would have been horrified. I suggest to anyone who is interested in an authentic high tea EXPERIENCE with impecable service and an wonderful menu, try the Peninsula Hotel in LA. It will cost you about the same and you'll be treated properly. For the more budget minded, the Hunington Library and Botanical Gardens in Pasadena is also a nice choice. The setting can't be beat, however the food is slightly on the mass produced side, though still quite decent and in fact similar to several high teas I've experienced in the UK.

When my friend suggested High Tea to celebrate my upcoming birthday, I was enthused. However, the High Tea Cottage so far exceeded my expectations. The ambiance is lovely, quaint and serene. I felt as though I could have been sitting in a small cottage in London. I am inexperienced with tea and so the extensive selection was a little intimidating at first. But the Cottage's owner, Jenn, was so very helpful and I enjoyed the peach-apricot black tea so much that I purchased some tea for my friend and I to each take home. I am sipping some now as I write! The exceptional fare (prepared to order!)was fresh, scrumptious and plentiful. Most impressive was the fact that each of the five courses came out at a leisurely pace. Unlike so many other dining establishments where one feels rushed as each course arrives with the clearing of plates from the preceding course, we felt as though we were welcome to spend the afternoon and indeed we did! I felt very aristocratic enjoying this wonderful English tradition served on traditional, authentic bone china. It is clear that Jenn and Ken are commited to excellence and you will find yourself hating to leave the coziness of their extended home. I cannot wait to return. Thank you SO MUCH, Jenn and Ken! I'll see you again, soon.

if you read through the negative reviews posted on this site, you'll see that they mostly have to do with the poor attitude of the staff/owners. the owner was so amazingly rude to us!! i have never encountered such a response anywhere!! it was so over the top & shocking that it was laughable. we drove over 30 miles & an hour in traffic to visit this tea house. we had reservations and due to heavy traffic on the 101 on a friday, we arrived 15 mins past our reservation time. there was no other customers in the restaurant, it was empty. the man who sat us was very friendly & chatty and made us feel very welcomed. but when the woman came out, she made it clear as day that we had committed some sin because it was now 4:30 & the chef leaves at 6:00. hmm, sounded like plenty of time to us, we looked at each other perplexed by her insult & rudeness. all in all she spoke very very harshly to us, chastised us like we were fools, and SLAMMED the door on us when we left!!! we understand she may have had concerns about the time, but why not speak kindly to us & explain this? who treats customers like this? please do not reward these individuals with your business. give your business to someone who truly values you - you'll be happier as well.

I have been here several times as both a patron and the hostess for my friend's bridal shower. It is without a doubt the very best Tea House I have ever been to and we have visited most south of Oregon. From the minute you enter the front door the owners personally make you feel welcome and it is a pleasure to have you visit! You will notice the aroma of freshly baked scones and be surprised at the surroundings, an oasis away from the stresses of everyday living..... Tables are covered in white crisp cloths adorned with beautiful English bone china, crystal glasses, bowls of fresh flowers and pastel napkins. The ambiance is elegant yet warm and friendly. Over 55 loose leaf premium teas and we have always been offered a smell before selecting our choices, on one occasion we were given 4 teas to enjoy with our Afternoon Tea at no extra charge. The food is outstanding, fresh flowers decorate the plates and everything is made to order so all is as fresh as can be, the tea sandwiches are petite and dainty. We love the cranberry chicken salad and my husband always asks for extra curried egg sandwiches which is never a problem. The scones are always hot and fresh from the oven, the best we have ever tasted, they offer a preserve cart with a selection of the days jams and curds. And the desserts are magnificent, very European. They offer alternate besides the traditional teas, the crepes and quiche are very good, best quiche, full of vegetables and the salads are organic with fresh fruits, they even offer an Australian Tea with meat pie and a pavlova.......so good! Service is excellent with the used china being removed after each course and clean brought and a silent butler sweeps away any crumbs. They even give a beautiful birthday gift when celebrating a birthday. This is a first class, friendly, warm Tea House where you are treated like Royalty and made to feel like an old friend. Highly recommend this over any other in Los Angeles, you will not be disappointed. Street parking or a public lot down at the corner, and they put quarters in the meter for you, now that's class!!

My friend loved the ginger cake, apparently very traditional. We even learned some British history while there. Our group of four had a lovely time. We were treated like royalty. My husband and I have been to this establishment twice in the past month. Both times it was excellent. Over 60 teas to choose from and a very large menu, the largest we have seen at a tea house. I had the Traditional and my husband had the Australian Tea Classics. Beautiful presentation with fresh flowers on the plate for the sandwiches and my husband's salad that came with the meat pie was a work of art and he loved the pie. We both had scones straight out of the oven and they have a jam cart where you are offered many selections and served table side. The desserts were outstanding and we were offer 4 different teas to taste at no extra charge. I really enjoyed the Provence a red tea and Jeff enjoyed the Royal Bengal Tiger best. We have been to the High Tea Cottage three times. The owners are very nice and incredibly well educated about tea. The husband makes his rounds to each table to greet his patrons and chit chat about tea, and the wife will sometimes bring out a canister of tea for everyone to smell. That is super rare and definitely appreciated. The tea selection and food are great, and they have the best tasting jams for scones. The atmosphere is very home-like and warm. We will definitely return.

      Tearoom response:

Thank you so much for leaving us a lovely review and your kind words. All the staff try very hard to make your visit enjoyable and both Ken and I feel that the wonderful patrons that visit us are a rare treat to us and we look forward to welcoming you again. Once again, thank you. Jenn

My tea group, the Chai Bellas, and I LOVED this tearoom and the owner/servers! I would recommend the Royal Ascot Tea, which gives more sandwiches, scones and pastries than you can eat. The lavender lemonade and the kama sutra tea were divine! The owner, Jen, was a delight: funny, accommodating and very generous. We look forward to returning. Terri, our waitress, was also lovely. The setting is intimate and beautiful. It feels like you're worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.

      Tearoom response:

Cassandra, it was an absolute pleasure to have the Chai Bellas at our little Cottage. What am absolute delight to meet such beautiful ladies, you filled our Drawing Room with sunshine. This was my 1st visit to this tea room and my friends 3rd, she took me here today for my birthday. The experience was fantastic. From the minute we walked in the front door we were greeted like old friends. The interior is charming just like entering a private home. The color scheme is very relaxing yet elegant with tapastry, on the walls, fresh flowers on the tables. They have loose leaf tea and we were able to smell our selections before we made our choice. The tea sandwiches were very fresh, the chicken is the best I have ever tasted and my friend loved the curried egg. The scones were just out of the oven and so yummy, the sweet morsals more than we could eat so we took a 'doggy bag' which we enjoyed after dinner tonight. This teahouse is the best I have been to in all of Southern California. Make reservations and expect to spend 2 to 3 hours just relaxing, it's well worth the 2 hour drive we made to go. We will be back before the summer is over! Exceptional!!! Oh and I received a necklace as a birthday gift too, very classy!

      Tearoom response:

My girlfriends and I came to the teahouse as a final celebratation of our 30th High School Reunion after seeing it listed on TeaMap. I have been to many tearooms in the area but had not been to this one. The teahouse was beautiful as each table was adorned with fresh flowers and beautiful china. The owners were delightful and the stories of the tea sets and british history was fascinating. By the end of the afternoon, we were completely charmed by the owners. We felt like royalty with our Royal High Tea. I plan to return as often as I can with my family and friends. Oh, did I mention the food and tea? Delicious! This teahouse is a must to visit.

My husband and I schedule business trips to LA twice a year or so and love to stop and have tea afterwards to replenish and relax. However, outstanding tearooms are hard to find in the area we visit for business, but this one was extremely delightful and stood out miles apart from the rest! We found out about it from teamap when we searched for the zipcode we were going to be in. The pictures on teamap were beautiful, and when we arrived, it was even more so! The tables were set so perfectly with pastel napkins and crisp white tablecloths. Jenn, the owner, uses beautiful matching antique bone china (which are all in excellent condition) to serve her guests. We find this to be very special since we are both Antique fanatics and appreciate quality china. Jenn also uses fresh center pieces arranged elegantly in a 'tussy-mussey' style. The flowers are fresh and coordinate so perfectly with the table schemes. I can tell she is an artist and has a flare for color and arrangements - her tearoom is beautifully appointed, plus her presentation of the food is just as luscious with fresh garnish such as orchids and freshly minced parsley against bright, red, juicey tomatoes. We were first greeted by her charming husband, Ken. He is so very interesting and extremely attentive. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious and the teas she offered were soothing and had excellent flavors. We had a lovely chat with these two beautiful and gracious hosts after our service. We couldn't of asked for a lovelier tea time after a long ride to Glendale and hectic business appointments. Ken and Jenn made us feel relaxed and pampered. We sure hope to do the same for them when they come down to visit us in our tearoom in Coronado. They need the pampering real soon! We thank you for a lovely afternoon in your gorgeous tearoom! See you soon.

      Tearoom response:

The collection of china is pretty amazing there. The food was excellent and every plate was adorned with fresh flowers. We had plenty of food and I really like the ginger tea cake. I had a wonderful experience at this tea establishment with a group of girlfriends. We were greeted immediately and seated promptly. The interior is very well decorated and everything is clean and tidy, including the restroom. Service was very attentive and the tea was excellent. When we had questions, our server, and the owner, was more than happy to go get the various teas in question and have us smell them and explained the differences, which I found most helpful. All the food was excellent. You just have to try the lavender lemonade. It is just fantastic! The scones and homemade jams were wonderful. The portions are also extremely generous. We all had the Royal Tea. We were not rushed at all and actually spent several hours working through all the tea and courses. It was a very pleasant afternoon and we have already made plans to return again! I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family.

My sister and I have been to this tea room 4 times now, Firstly we were invited to a baby shower there and were so impressed with both the service and the food we decided to come back on our own. Each time it is excellent. You get a lot of food, endless tea and if you don't like your choice they give you another for no charge. The decor is very elegant and we had fresh flowers on the tables and all the courses. Service from the staff is always attentive and the owner very charming. We took our 86 year old Mom for Mother's Day and it was perfect. They really did it right and the guitarist played favorite songs for Mom. There is a charming garden patio and we love the Salon. Highly recommend the High Tea Cottage, it's better than the Ritz Carlton in Pasadena and local.

I was very excited to discover a tea room in Woodland Hills, so I planned a visit with friends. Although the exterior made me a bit hesitant, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and cozy interior. The owner was not that friendly and welcoming. The tearoom is a converted house, and I felt that we were 'intruding' because of her attitude. They have a nice selection of tea, and the food was plentiful (we had the royal tea). But, the experience that stayed with me the most was the poor and puzzling service. Our server kept asking if we were done with our course or if we wanted her to pack up the remaining food so we can move to the next course. It did not seem appropriate to rush customers at a tearoom. She also took our teapots to refill them or heat them, and forgot to bring it back for my friend. The oddest thing was, between courses, she brought out a not so discreet handheld broom with a small dustpan, and began sweeping our table. I understand this is done in fine restaurants, but normally it's done with a little popsicle stick, and done discreetly. Finally, when the dessert tray came out, she offered us no silverware or extra plates. We asked, but were told that they were just bite sized desserts. I felt uncomfortable popping these desserts in my mouth without any plate or fork! I wish I had a better experience so that I could say I found a lovely neighborhood tea room.

For my mom's 65th birthday, my sisters and I threw a party at The High Tea Cottage. We were very pleased with the beautiful decor and relaxing atmosphere. The guitarist was fabulous and so was our server. The chef (also the owner), however, refused to accommodate any special dietary needs. On the contrary, we found ourselves having to accommodate the chef. She rudely interrupted our party and then threw down the menu and huffed away after some of our guests requested the hollandaise sauce on the side. She was very gracious at the end of our party when she gave a necklace from her gift shop to my mother and a teaspoon to each of the two children. Although a generous gesture, it did not make up for her previous outburst and the uncomfortable scene she had caused in front of our guests. Nonetheless, we were a lively and happy bunch, we didn't let her sour behavior ruin our fun, and the tea was a great success. I doubt any of us will return to the High Tea Cottage due to the overall lack of service we received from the owner.

I have been here time after time and I cannot get enough!! They serve the tea (if you order the Royal Service) on 150 year old bone china. Very relaxing and wonderful place, you forget the world outside. The food is made as you order it, NEVER refrigirated, so everything tastes amazing. It is an honor to have Jenn, the owner in this location, and it is an honor to be in her presence. This woman knows tea. Try the Buckingham Palace blend, with milk. Lots of different food items on the menu as well, and tons of tea selections. Also, they have china sets and tea gifts for sale. Love them!!

This tearoom is fabulous! The best in Los Angeles! I went with 3 girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. On walking in we were so pleased with the decore, absolutely beautiful, very eurooean. We were greeted by a lovely man who welcomed us and took us to our table. The table setting was beautiful, with English china, silver spoons, linens and beautiful fresh spring flowers. The waitress, Lex came over and explained the menu that is very large, and explained all the different 3, 4 or 7 course tea services and the salads and crepes. The man who greeted us came back and explained all the teas in detail, we found he is a retired Doctor and engaged to the owner. We placed our food order and selected our teas. We each had our own tea and the teas were piping hot. One of my friends ordered the chicken salad as she has diet problems; the presentation of the salad was the best I have ever seen, with fresh fruits and all and we all tasted the chicken, it is sooo good!…. The finger sandwiches arrived and were perfect, fresh, tasty and even fresh flowers decorated the plates, we also had some of the sandwiches placed on our plate by silver tongs. Next came the scones, just out of the oven which were so yummy, we voted them the best we have ever tasted. They have a jam cart and you get to select what you would like. The sweets came last, oh my, little jam and fruit tarts, dark chocolate cups with fresh strawberries and cream, cream puffs and magnificent lemon tart. We had oodles of food, we all took leftovers home (can you believe leftovers at a Tea house??) The background music is perfect for Tea. No one rushed us, we had unlimited tea and were even invited to taste some of the more unusual teas they carry, we were made to feel we were dining in someone’s home. The owner came out, she is the chef, very charming and made us feel even more welcome, and did I mention, I was given a birthday gift, a beautiful piece of jewelry! Never have we had such a lovely tea experience anywhere. I highly recommend this establishment, don’t be put off by the outside, it’s an absolute gem once you walk in.

As the place is so busy, I had several failed attempts before securing a reservation, but I was not disappointed. I arrived just before a large party was scheduled to start, so I had the place to myself for 30 minutes. With a view of the garden patio, I was able to take in the cottage's charm. Even when the party attendee's started to arrive, it remained peaceful, since they were in a separate room. I was served by Terry who was friendly and attentive. I wanted to try a bit of everything for my first visit and got both The Royal Tea and a chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious and served with an organic green salad accompanied with raspberry dressy. That would have made a most succulent meal all by itself. Then, came the royal tea. I tried the ham and mustard, curried egg and cheese and apple chutney finger sandwiches. The chutney was the best. The curried egg did not appeal to me and I think I would have preferred the ham with another condiment, rather than mustard. I devoured the flavorful mini spinach quiches. Then came the ginger cake. I was expecting your basic ginger bread, but the cake had a soft filling. Served warm and drizzled with cream, it was more like a bread pudding. Scrumptious. I had delectable fruit scones and could smell the cranberry aroma coming long before the scones arrived at my table. Finally, there were petite desserts consisting of chocolate cups and fresh fruits. Everything was carefully and artfully presented, as picturesque as it was flavorful. I cannot wait to return to have the chicken salad again.

I have come to this tea house about 7 or 8 times since they opened.Any new business goes through growing pains. The one thing and probably the most important in my opinion,is that the food here has been consistantly delicious.I was willing to be patient and wait for the other aspects of running this tea house to sort itself out. And it did.Last week I brought my girlfriend for her birthday and we had a delightful time.Everyone and everything was in sync. Our reservation was recognized,we were seated promptly and the server was friendly, attentive and informative. My expectation in a tea house such as this is to feel as though I am being entertained in someone's home.I am not looking for or expecting a tea experience similar to the Bel Air Hotel or Four Seasons.Parking on the street in front is difficult at best, but there is a public lot down the block with coin meters.A very nice added touch is that all the birthday girls I have brought have received a gift from the HTC.In fact when I hosted a holiday tea for a small group of friends, the HTC gave me a gift of tea in an adorable tin!

My best friend is a tea connoisseur and I wanted to surprise her on her birthday (1/22/08) by treating her to a High Tea. From the moment we walked in our senses were overwhelmed. It was raining outside and there was a roaring fire going in the corner fireplace. The smells from the kitchen and the fire made one close their eyes and breathe deeply. The tables were each set differently with exquisite china, beautiful stemware and lovely linens. The music was just loud enough to hear without interfering with conversation...and the selection was just perfect. Our server was wonderful. She was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We were made to feel that our experience was not to be hurried, but relaxed and leisurely. Half way through our 3 hour lunch, I told my friend that I felt like I had had a glass of wine...she said it felt more like a spa day. We thoroughly enjoyed the Royal High Tea. From our tea selection, Buckingham Palace Garden Party (we bought some to take home), to the beautifully presented and delicious tea sandwiches, yummy quiche, unbelievable scones with jam and sweet treats...everything was a delight. The most scrumptious part of our High Tea, however, was the Ginger Cake, Queen Elizabeth's favorite. It was unbelievable! We savored every bite of every course...oohing, awing and sighing our way through 3 hours of tea, food and wonderful conversation. This is a marvelous place to take your best gal-pal out for a very special occasion...or to just celebrate being friends.

I visited 2 weeks ago - and had made a reservation well in advance. When I arrived, they made me feel as though they had no idea I was coming, and never acknowledged my reservation. I observed several other ladies who arrived and were made wait as well - at least 15 minutes standing at crowded door. They too had a reservation. Humm. After I was sat, the one I thought would be my server passed by me several times and entirely ignored I was there, finally, someone else came 'as a matter of factly', as if no one else wanted or could serve me. DID I MENTION - I HAD A RESERVATION? There was live music, granted, but the room is very crowded and not relaxed at all. I felt crammed and cornered and tea left at table for I to handle. I will say, however, that the scone service with a choice of jam was a welcomed sight. The peach ginger jam was superb. I only had tea and scones and on I went... I did not get the personable service I am used to and not sure I will return here. There are a few items here available for sale - teacups, tea, and scone mixes...

My wife and I enjoyed Sunday Brunch at this establishment and we both were very impressed with everything, including the guitarist (his rendition of the Holiday Season music was just fabulous). I chose the crepes, loved the Hollandaise Sauce and the huge organic green salad. My wife went for the healthy choice of the Vegetarian Quiche (made with an egg substitute) which she informed the whole cottage was absolutely marvelous! The menu is small, crepes and volovontes (with a range of choices) and 3 types of fresh baked quiche. We chose scones as our dessert (fresh out of the oven) and they were delicious as well. Unlimited OJ and tea and both found that our portions of food were very large. In summary we had a lovely time with good food, service and music and did I mention the intimate atmosphere? Well worth the visit. Caroline and Ken

I was very disappointed with the entree menu for the Sunday brunch. We are all urged to follow a healthy life style and although it is not possible at every meal, a restaurant must offer an alternative item instead of slathering either of the only two menu choices with a huge amount of hollandaise sauce. Either a sauce should be optional or served on the side If that is not possible as I was told, that the sauce is already on the dish and cannot be served another way then there should be an additional item that is not loaded with cholesterol on the menu. Many older people unfortunately have restrictions regarding cholesterol and young people are encouraged to watch their intake. The fresh fruit salad was excellent and the desserts good but rich, However, with dessert one can take it or leave it or just sample as much or as little as one wants. That is not possible with the 2 entrees.

Had lunch here and it was excellent, lots of loose leaf teas and we tried 7 and were only charged for 1 pot, service was great, waitress was Terry and the food really fresh, couldn't find any faults. Highly recommend and we will be back again.

Excited for a new tea room, was much disappointed. Service was deplorable, and was I sick off of a salmon tea sandwich. Freshness must be a problem.

Went to High Tea Cottage for the first time on 10/20/07. We were a party of 4, and everyone had a wonderful time! Good food, good service, a lovely atmosphere, I would highly recommend it. Also, the largest variety of meals to chose from that I've ever seen at a tea house - French, English, and even Australian!

What a delightful teahouse. We have been 3 times now, everything is exceptional. Very friendly and attentive staff, a very large menu to choose from and great tea sandwiches. The scones were fresh out of the oven each time we visited. We will be back again and again!!

I have had tea at the cottage twice. Both times the service was excellent and the young women who work there are very genteel and hospitable. The food is wonderful, very fresh and tasty. The decor is lovely, very European, not the usual Victorian theme that is so common in tea rooms. Thank you for bringing such a lovely tea experience to the valley. Phyllis 10-05-07

well apparently there are some mixed reviews about this place! i went here a couple of weeks ago and i can understand someone enjoying themselves and i can also understand someone not finding this place quite as charming.my experience was in the middle, it was NOT great and was NOT horrible. tea map is not a place for arguing among customers, the good doctor should understand that not all people may find a place as comfortable as her and are allowed to express their unhappiness. I think remarking on people at another table is in bad taste. You sound like you are complaining about people in a movie theatre, get over it and leave it alone. This site is for reviews not personal vendettas.

I went to this tearoom excited to enjoy afternoon tea as a special farewell to one of my close friends who was traveling over seas but I was greatly mistaken. First, the area is dirty and the outside is an eye sore, however, I will admit that the interior was cozy but deceiving to what truly await inside. Our reservation was for noon, we received water and notification that they were short staffed at around 12:30 without any prior communication from the staff. Our order wasn’t taken till about 12:50 and the waitress had to continuously leave to ask questions due to her complete lack of knowledge of the menu. A fifteen-minute delay due to short staffing would have been acceptable but not a 40 minute one. We asked to speak to a manager to merely communicate our concern, but the large and rude kitchen woman was the only “help” we received. My guests and I decided to leave and we will never go back and we don’t suggest anyone go there. In America we don’t treat customers like they are the enemy. I will be surprised if this business makes it passed 2007.

I consider myself to be a classy respectable individual..and I have never felt more disrespected and offended in my entire life.first of all I felt extremely unwelcome my guests and I waited over half an hour to be served water in 105 degree weather, it took over an hour for our waitress to even take our order, she had no knowledge what so ever about the menu..and I was unpleasantly surprised by the attire of our waitress. I'm not interested in a peep show while I'm trying to relax and enjoy a pot of tea (which never got served anyway) the owner was even worse her attitude was despicable and unprofessional my guests and I were so appalled we got up and left..the horrible way we were treated brought one of my guests to tears. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I AM TRULEY DISGUSTED and confused as to why this place is even in business.

We heard about this place through my dentist, he said we would be in for a treat, and were we ever. What a magnificent teahouse, over 3o loose-leaf teas from popular to unusual, we tried the Rooibos, red tea, beautiful. We had china over 100 years old and that set the tone for our total experience. The food was excellent, we actually took some leftovers home, can you believe leftovers! Service is very friendly and professional and staff keen to help. We tried the lavender lemonade, yum. Ordered the Parlor Tea, scones the best we have ever tasted. It’s old worldly yet modern, very calming atmosphere and comfortable, you feel welcome and at home. Major movie star was having tea in another room but it was closed to other patrons, although we did get to see her, we think they have a lot of celebrity clients. Will definitely be going back again soon, both my friends said this is the best tea experience in Los Angeles.
