I have been a long time tea drinker, and long time customer of this location. I have visted all the other local tea rooms. What makes Elaine's stand out is the professional grade of knowledge she has about tea, and the amazing variety of teas she has to offer at FAIR prices. This is not a massive tea room where you could plan to host parties, but rather a place for serious tea drinkers to learn more, and explore new teas.

Elaine, as I believe her name is, spoke harshly of all other tea shops in the area, a rather uncheerful and off-putting attitude to have. she stores her teas for purchase in bags on the shelf, and not the nice zip-tight airtight bags. I purchased Lapsang Souchong, and found that it was stale upon the first cup. She has a wide variety of tea, but I wouldn't recommend anybody who is looking for a fresh cup to shop here. I was expecting a nice relaxing place to chat about tea, perhaps pick up some new information, and to find a local shop to get things we do not carry in the tea shop I work in. Oh, and you'd be lucky to find her open, even when her hours are posted. She seems to take many breaks...

      Tearoom response:

Wow! I guess I should have been expecting this since a chain tea shop moved into the local mall. I'd like to clarify some of the comments.

Of course I will speak highly of my shop over the others in town. I only speak the truth. I know where my tea comes from and I know where theirs does. My tea stocks are by far the best and freshest in town, hands down. I order in small quantities and hand pack everything in small batches to protect freshness.

Our bags are zip locks for the orders through our web site. One short look through our site, with a link to our tea room will tell you exactly what we are about. http://www.wildorchidteas.com

Our tea bags used in the shop are triple lined bags that are made for long term tea storage, (unlike the ones the mall stores use which force you into buying overpriced tea tins) with flat bottoms so that they sit properly on the shelves. We bag small amounts ahead (when we can keep up with it!) so that customers don't have to wait. BTW, the Lapsang Souchong is one of our popular teas and turns over very regularly. Perhaps this 'customer' (competitor employee) doesn't know what really fresh tea tastes like, but I do and so do my regular customers.

I've also dealth with some health issues that have forced me to close the shop on rare occasion. This is a 'ma & pa' shop, not a large chain. How callous to be so unsympathetic to another's hardship. That's just not what we're about at Elaine's Tea Shoppe.

We pride ourselves in The BEST Tea in Town. And the friendliest, most knowledgable tea service. Period.

Elaine's offers many varieties of loose leaf tea and tea items in her shop. We had lunch here a couple years ago. The food was simple. Our tea was served in press pots. She is very friendly and happy to share her knowledge of tea. I have stopped several times since just to to shop.

Sample of tea distributed at beginning that was good. But tea ordered with meal weak, especialy chai-rather disappointing for a tearoom. The lunch plate was filling and well presented. The soup (tomato alfredo)quite tasty. Music subdued, room bright and cheery.

      Tearoom response:

      Hi Jenna~
Thanks for your review. We pride ourselves in serving exceptional tea in far greater variety (over 130) than most other tea rooms. And, we are more than happy to replace your tea if you are not satisfied in any way. We always use our 'perfect cup of tea' standard measured scoop for preparation. However, we understand each person has different taste preferences. Please give us a chance in the future to adjust to your particular tastes and we'll be happy to serve you just what you like.
Please visit us again soon, and have a free pot of chai (prepared just the way you like it) on us!

I adored my time here. My first visit to this tea house was with family as a surprise and I have been in love ever sense. Whenever I need to find just the right tea, discover a new tea, or just relax I am certain to take a trip to this tea house for a good time.

set up a tea for a group and was embarrased that the price quoted over the phone was not what we were charged after the tea. Was promised a talk on tea for the ladies and never had that either. The food was tasty though. Not a very friendly atmosphere, and not very accomodating for a group. Was so dissapointed, had to find other tea houses for our group of Mothers. sorry

      Tearoom response:

Wow! When was your group in? I am always more than happy to speak to groups on tea. We are always responsive to customer complaints, however cannot remedy things if we don't know there's a problem! I was not made aware of any pricing discrepancies nor that a group was in that wanted a tea talk. I'm also curious why you felt the atmosphere was not friendly. We get compliments from many customers regularly about our warm, friendly service. If an employee treated you rudely or in an unfriendly manner, I definitely want to know about it. It is difficult to address service issues if I don't know where the problem lies. I'd love to have a better understanding of this and you may contact me at elaine@thetealady.com.
Thanks!

Hello, we visited Elaine's tea shoppe to celebrate a birthday and we were not disappointed. Very nice selection of tea, lunch selection was limited but very tasty (chicken salad was yummy) and, of course, the teas were wonderful, we all picked a different one and sampled each others and service was wonderful. We were all very relaxed after our time at Elaine's and decided this was a great way to spend a birthday outing. We plan on doing a tea basket for a fundriaser and we will be back.

I love the food and tea. But the music I can't stand. I am not into new age and that is not what a tea room should be playing. If it wasn't for the music I would go back.

What a warm exquisite shop! I walked in not knowing what to expect and found such a wide variety of teas to choose from. Elaine is knowledgeable and introduced me to some of her personal blends. The Blackberries and Cream & Rasberry Truffle are my favorites! Not to mention the 'Unwrinkle Me' blend of white teas. After a couple of weeks, I've already noticed a difference in my skin. The mystical atmosphere lends a serenity that calms the nerves instantaneously. Elaine's Tea Shoppe is beacon on a cold rainy day.

This tea room is very small--three or so tables. Difficult for a private conversation. Tables are right on top of each other, very limited menu choices. I would purchase loose tea if I'm in the neighborhood--not a large selection. I wouldn't make a special trip.

      Tearoom response:

We carry over 125 different teas in the shop and have over 30 on the menu--far more than most other tea rooms. Most customers are overwhelmed by the selection, so a tea has to really catch my eye to add it to our stocks. We also have many unique blends you won't find anywhere else. And, we have 6 table groupings, as much as we can squeeze in our small space to accommodate groups of up to 20. We'd love a larger space, too!
Hope you'll stop back sometime to take a better look at our many lovely teas.
Elaine
