I'm amazed how busy this place was on a Sunday afternoon. Even with all the commotion we were seated and served quickly and the food was very authentic, absolutely delicious. There was a great variety of teas and suprisingly their own label teas too.

I don't get to Beacon very often but will stop by again the next time I'm around.

I planned to make reservations for tea at Cup & Saucers and discovered this tea room recently reopened as a restaurant. From online pictures of the new menu, I did not see any tea options. I'm disappointed we won't get to try such a highly rated tea room.

Not too busy when we went, probably because it was so cold out. There was no one on the streets. Needless to say we were happy to be inside. Our experience was delightful, service was extremely hospitable, food incredible and we really enjoyed the warm spirited feeling of the place that seemed to emanate from the walls themselves. We were shopping in Beacon when we stopped in, but will surely come back.

After being cooped up in the apartment for what seems like an eternity, my friends and I ventured up to Beacon NY for their big 2nd Saturday happenings. It started to downpour so we ducked into this wonderfully charming little establishment. The warmth and hospitality we received felt so genuine it was as if we were transported to Brigadoon or something. The teas were amazing, we were told that January is 'hot tea month' and that they were featuring a Coconut Pouchong tea, so we had that...great choice. We weren't really hungry, although the food smelled amazing so we only had some scones. May I say they were to die for. I've never had a better scone EVER, I may not be a connoisseur, but I know what I know. All in all we had a great experience and will definitely be going back to eat the next time we're in town.

Just had my daughter's sweet 16 birthday party here and everything was perfect. The little sandwiches were so cute and delicious and the desserts and scone, heavenly.

Thank you, I'm thrilled to have my daughter look at me with love in her eyes and not embarrassment, lol!

Stopped in for a 'spot' of tea and a little something to hold me over as I waited for some friends who were coming to Beacon to lunch (some where else). After sitting awhile reading the menu I texted my friends and told them to meet me at this restaurant because the menu looked so good. I had already been there awhile before my friends showed up, and we stayed and ate (delicious) and sat around and chatted. Even though there was a steady stream of customers we were never made to feel rushed and I had already been there quite a while. I appreciated the relaxed atmosphere since we don't get together that often. My previous experience waiting at the 'other' restaurant was made uncomfortable, which is why I stopped at the Cup and Saucer to begin with.

I took my wife and her Mother out for Mother's day and was very impressed with this restaurant. The service on a very busy day was calm and professional, the food although a little slow, did I mention it was very busy, was absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bangers and Mash and the girls each had a ham and leek quiche we finished the meal off with scones, apple pie and tea cakes. I am grateful for the wonderful lunch since I am now being rewarded for finding the perfect place.

I just came home from a weekend in Beacon. I'd seen an article in Friday's New York Times about Beacon and thought it would make for a lovely weekend getaway. It did. I stayed at a lovely B&B called the Swann Inn and it was they that suggested the Cup and Saucer. The whole experience was fabulous. the black bean soup was one of the best soups I've ever had, not just black bean soup. My dinner was a homey bacon wrapped meatloaf with a gravy so wonderful, I was in heaven. My partner enjoyed the (if I can remember this) plantain sweet potato poppers and then a tilapia franchese, awesome! There was no room for dessert, but the bread pudding and scone were calling to us so we took them back to the room. We ate them for a midnight snack and had very sweet dreams.

My friend has been pushing me to come with her to this tea room. I always hesitated because I'm really not a tea drinker (usually when I'm sick). I finally gave in since I wanted to go to Beacon anyway. I didn't have tea but I did have a wonderful Salmon over salad, it had almonds and oranges in a delicate tasty ginger dressing. I decided not to have dessert, even though they all sounded pretty great but instead had a bite of my friends 'Lavender Blue' scone...absolutely delightful.

I am going to start prodding other friends to go with me ha ha !

Went to the beacon Riverfest today and listened to some good music, but after a while it was so hot we decided to go to Main street and cool down somewhere. We found you looked at the menu in the window and decided to go in. It was so nice and cool, what a relief it was to sit down and enjoy a wonderful glass of roibos colada iced tea. After our salads we also shared your scones I had the strawberry rose and Mark had the orange lavender. I have to say that we (mark said so too) never had any better scones than those. Thank you for the wonderful finish to a great afternoon.

Are you kidding me! I just wanted to write a review for a tea room that I thought was outstanding. When I read the previous reviews I thought they must be thinking of a different tea room. Where I went today was wonderful, plaid tablecloths, decor etc. was beautiful. I also had a afternoon tea and don't understand the complaints one bit. My tea was hot and my sanwiches were tasty and desserts were yummy. If I lived near there I would I think I would go a lot.

Wow!! I am shocked at the two lastest reviews that the Cup & Saucer Tea Room received. I have been thoughly enjoying tea at this establishment for the past 6 years.Their selection of teas are enormous. They even give you a choice of tea pot sizes. So if your only looking for a spot of tea chose the small pot. If you love tea, as much as I do, than go for the large. You will get at least 4 tea cups full out of this size. I have also enjoyed the meals served there. Their homemade, yes I said homemade, chicken soup is as good as the memory of my mothers. My three favorite things to eat there are the freshly made bread pudding, the curry chicken salad, and the sheppards pie. All made by the owner, Shirley. I always bring friends and family there whenever they come to visit. The seating area is of medium size, which I prefer. The waitresses and waiters are always happy to serve and help you. Service may take awhile only because the food is made there and not processed from some warehouse. If you come to The Cup and Saucer you will never be rushed thru your meals. It is a place like no other. So come, sit back and let the grass grow under your feet like life was intended to be and don't even think twice about those bad reviews. Their nuts!!!

After reading all of the positive reviews about this tea house over the years, I was delighted to have the opportunity to bring my 2 children to the tea house on 2/18/12. My family and I have visted several tea rooms over the years and had high expectations for the cup and saucer. Unfortunatley this experience was very disappointing. I should have see the red flags when I saw the limited tea menu, or when the sugar bowl had sugar and sweet and low packets jammed into it. However, I hoped for the best. Aftenoon tea in the tea house resembled a hodge podge affair. The sandwiches not finger sandwiches, unless you are a giant. The scones resembled mushrooms with cream cheese in the middle and the desserts were dime sized hard as rock cookies, I think, and brownie bites that I am sure came out of a freihoffer snack bag. No vegetables, no fruit, that was it. Terrible disappointment. Oh sorry, did forget my dry egg salad sandwich had plastic in it which was brought back to me after I pointed it out only to be told it came from a toothpick???!!! My Advice, stay away and go to tea house in Peeeksill - Kathleen's is amazing !

I have been to about 10 tea rooms in the states and many in both France & England. After seeing all of the five star reviews on here, I was excited to try the Cup & Saucer Tea Room today with two friends. Unfortunately, It did not live up to all of this hype. ... The waitress asked for our order when I had barely even taken my coat off yet. When I asked if they used loose leaf teas, I was told 'no, not for the Afternoon tea party.' The grocery store quality tea bags are just left in the pot with no timer, no nothing, not even a place to rest the bags after brewing. The desserts included blueberry muffins (so odd?) and what appeared very much like store bought brownie bites one would find at costco. Also, they were out of BOTH quiche AND crepes? How bizarre. Not to mention that every table that came in while we were there did not get a hello but rather a waitress just pointing to a table for them to sit at. Again, uncomfortable. Now, the atmosphere had to be the most disappointing of all. Plaid table cloths with glass tops, a dusty piano in the back with board games scattered & really just sloppy in general. Lastly, how can you call it a 'boutique' when it is merely two counters pushed together selling mugs that say 'CRAZY CAT LADY' on them. Beacon is charming but I will never be back to this tea room.

Wednesday is the perfect day for my lunch club since we're older and most of us don't like to go out on the weekends. One of my ladies suggested the Tea Room because her grand daughter had been given a surprise shower there and commented on how wonderful it was. I was elected to post this review since I'm the youngest (63). We all had a great time, Joan our waitress is as old as we are and we enjoyed her tremendously. I live in NYC but traveled to Beacon to see my Aunt for Thanksgiving. She took me to the cup and saucer tea room for lunch as she knows I like a good cuppa. They had a wonderful variety of teas and I settled for the Pumpkin Spice, a warm fall flavored tea that hit the right spot. We shared a tea party for two which was delicious and oh so pretty.

Variety of Tea: Exceptional. I am a Twinings man, and that is what they serve here. They also serve chai tea, and since I know little about it, I defer on a review of that.

Food: Shirley serves both traditional (finger sandwiches and cakes/cookies, etc.) and modern (the Reuben sandwich was quite good). Scones and croissant were both excellent.

Artistry and Tea Preperation: Tea pots (single, double and triple are available) were both hot and strong. They have both honey and sugar (I prefer honey) and both milk and creamer. And the pot is served with a blanket so it stays hot. Traditional tea sampler was served on a three tier tray. Good show here.

Service quality and cheer: Miriam (waitress) was outstanding: Polite, tolerant (we had children) and swift. She was covering the entire tea room alone (Sunday) also, which made her work today all the more impressive.

All in all, we traveled from Connecticut to visit this tea room, and we will do so again.

I didn't realize that this tea room offered a complete menu. I went for the afternoon tea but my friends ended up ordering something completely different. I'm so glad they did because now I'm going to go back for lunch. My 'tea party' was great and they raved about their food too.

I took my little girl for tea and it was wonderful! The place is adorable and the large number of vegetarian menu options was impressive. The food & tea were great and the tea cakes were delicious! They even put my daughter's lemonade in a tea pot at our request. I only scored a 'good' for tea prep because the sponge that was put on the tea spout to protect it didn't look super-clean (although it didn't touch the lemonade.) I will go back again to sample more goodies from the menu!

Thanks to Shirley and her staff, especially Adam, for making my best friend's Shower one that we will never forget. Her mother and I were such nervous nellies until you assured us that all will be fine.

Everything went so smoothly and better than I dared to hope for. The guests are still talking about what a good time they had.

I'm sure now you'll be busier than ever.

My Memorial Day Weekend's highlight was our trip to the Cup and Saucer. The place is absolutely charming. I prefer loose tea and was delighted to see it on the menu, so many tea rooms won't bother with loose teas. I chose a lavender earl grey that scented the entire area with it's aroma. Naturally I had the tea party for 1 with all the little dainties on it. I loved every morsal, and the scone was a true winner, raspberry dark chocolate chip hmmmm!!

The music and atmosphere were perfect. Thank you all for a lovely afternoon.

What an absolute delight going to the Cup and Saucer on Mother's Day with my daughters.

I was greatly impressed by the young man Adam, who served us. He was super efficient and charming.

The food was out of this world, we shared a tea party with beautifull and scrumptious sandwiches and desserts, the scone was moist inside and crunchy outside...wow!

We also had spinach feta crepes, Shrimp Francaise, Shepherd's Pie

      and desserts all were wonderful.

The finishing touch was all the beautiful flower arrangements on the tables, the place was beautiful.

This is now my favorite tea room ever, and I'm going back as often as possible.

I just wanted to thank Shirley for her efforts in raising money for the earthquake victims in Haiti.

We were just wandering in town and saw the sign that the tea room was donating 10% of their sales to the victims in Haiti. We were planning on eating in Beacon anyway and decided that this would be the place to partake of a meal. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The teas were perfect and the food divine as was the service.

Thank you to all, we will be back.

I agree with all the other reviews, this place was awesome, I looked on Teamap for a tea room upsate since we were going up to Beacon for the weekend. I had no idea that Beacon had a tea room. But I'm really glad it does. We spent the weekend at the Swann Inn B+B (which was great) and both Saturday and Sunday we ate at the Cup and Saucer. We had dinner with live music, some kind of open mike.

Then next day lunch and tea. You might think that it was overboard to go no where else, but each time we went was like a new great experience. Thank you to all, you were very gracious and sweet.

My wife and I took some time off and decided to have lunch at The Cup and Saucer Tea Room in Beacon. What a delightful lunch. They food was terrific. Shirly Hot, the owner and chef made you feel at home in this charming Victorian style tea room. It even has a great little gift boutique where you can buy various tea oriented gifts. If you come to Beacon, you must stop at The Cup and Saucer Tea Room. Two Thumbs Up!

After checking out Tea Rooms on Teamap, my friends and I decided to go to the Cup & Saucer even though it was a little further than we usually travel for Tea. I am so glad we made the trip. It is as cute and inviting as it looks in the photos. We all agree with the other reviewers that the food is delightful, and definitely worth going back. We went on a Friday and would have liked to have had more time to see a little more of Beacon, the town looks so adorable with all of its quaint shops and galleries. Next time we will go for their 2nd Saturday.

It was a surprise for which I was not prepared. An unpretentious yet comfortable looking storefront opened up into a welcoming warmth with a surprisingly diverse yet well-planned menu. If that in and of itself were not enough, my mouth salivated and begged for more with each bite, and though I was unable to experience every item on the menu my palate begged for more. I was constantly stretching over and grabbing from my daughter's plate in my quest to try as many items as I could fit. As a newcomer to Beacon I can guarantee that my rerurn visits to the Cup and Saucer will be frequent. I found the food to be as good as any comparable tea room in the City and the welcoming staff made this new Beacon resident fell entirely at home.

This is a tearoom with a secret. It is also a great restaurant! The entrees are creative feasts and the soups are exquisite. We tried a unique Strawberry Rose cold soup. It was delicate, fragrant, and mildly sweet. I had the Penne ala Vodka that was to die for. My friend chose the Salmon with a fresh peach glaze that was heaven.

The room has a spacious layout. Tables are placed at a very comfortable distance affording an air of privacy in an otherwise open room. And yet, both times I've dined there I found myself caught up in friendly conversation with other diners–mostly about the great food. If you are going to Beacon, or if you're lucky enough to live there, you MUST try The Cup and Saucer.

      Cup and Saucer Tea Room

This place was fabulous and I am really glad we drove out to Beacon, NY for this experience. It was worth the drive. We are definitely planning on going back, especially for one of their monthly special events (like “Jeopartea” on April 6, 2008). The “tea party for one special” came with six tea sandwiches, all unique and all in a different shape, tea, a scone, and small desserts. The tea sandwich with cinnamon bread (shaped like a diamond) was magnificent, the turkey one with cranberries was splendid, and the egg salad (shaped like a butterfly) was outstanding. The blueberry lemon scone with lemon curd was the best I have ever had. It was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Nydia had the “brunch special” (comes with soup, salad, tea, choice of entre, and choice of dessert). Her choice of soup was the some type of potato and corn with cheese soup. We both loved it. Her choice of entre was the ham and asparagus quiche. Nydia and I got a chance to meet the owner/chef as well. She and our waitress was spectacular and remarkable! I am impressed with this place and have been inspired to make the next tea party I have even better than the last.

Here is a snippet of each picture:

Pic 434: Nydia and I eating our meals. Also notice the tea cozy. I wish I had taken a picture of the tea pot because it was unique and beautiful.

Pic 435: Another pic of us.

Pic 437: The chef/owner’s signature: bread pudding. This bread pudding was a special dessert for the day. It was a cranberry orange bread pudding with an apricot (I think) glaze on top and a lemon custard sauce on the bottom. This was the best bread pudding I have ever had!

Pic 438: Nydia and I with the chef/owner. She has worked at this place as the chef for six years but became owner about 18 months ago. She is from England. Notice the background - lots of beautiful stuff for sale. I love how she has the tea cup and saucers hanging from the wall. Good idea! 3/16/08

      we were very disappointed.

we visited on a very hot day. no customers in the tearoom when we entered and we had to wait about 5 minutes, and then had to finally ask, to get any ice water to quench our thirst, while we looked the

      menu over. Husband order special

      of the day.........potato pancakes.

came out burned. sent them back and staff replaced them with some

that were a 'little' less burned.

3, not much bigger than a silver

      dollar...not much for the money.

      my spinach quiche excellent and

      also accompanying salad. Friend

      had spinach, strawberry salad.

      Was supposed to have strawberry

dressing which was not what she

was served. Nice but no exceptional.

      Scones very good, however, no

cream (whipped butter instead) ) and jelly

was served in small Smuckers plastic

package such as the diners serve

      with their breakfast toast.

We expected a 'little' more elegance. Certainly not a cheerful

      atmosphere. Young lady and young

man running the tearoom who seemed

to really not want to be there.

perhaps we hit it on a bad day, but

      would certainly not go back.

I am one of the locals who tried this tea room before, I had found the atmosphere quaint but cold. I read in my local paper that it was under new ownership so I went, one more time, and can tell you that I am absolutely thrilled at the changes I've seen. The food is fresher and tastier than ever. The cold feeling I had before is just a distant memory. My waitress,Annemarie, served my tea from a tea cart, even pouring it for me. The music is so relaxing and the ambiance is as warm as I could ever wish for. I for one will be making this a regular spot for me and my friends.

This tea room is under new ownership. While nice before, it has improved 1000%. The decorations are pretty much the same, but the atmosphere seems lighter somehow. The food was flavorful & delicious and beautifully presented, with perfect portions. Teas offered were good, with a little something for everyone. Service was timely, friendly, and very accomodating. I will be recommending this 'new' version of this teahouse to all my Red Hat friends!!!

I have been to this Tea Room many times (including High Teas), as I am a local-HOWEVER- I wouldn't make a point of telling anyone to travel to come here. The owners are sweet, the atmosphere is pretty, but the food- the selection is not that great, the quality of the sandwiches & desserts are not up to par, the portions are generally small & I find the prices to be too high considering what you get. Nine times out of ten, I would have to say the service was sorely lacking. I am accustomed to dining out quite frequently & have gone to places like the L'Escoffier at the Culinary Institute, so I know what I'm talking about!

My parents and I were in Beacon last fall for a concert and we stopped at this tearoom for dinner after exploring the other local options (limited though they are). Mom and I had tea, which was poor beyond believing; Dad had their dinner special, which was quite good and plentiful. Although this is not the worst tea I've had, I certainly would not recommend it to anyone. The comments from the other posts were accurate and rang all too true with our experience. The room is sweet, but the food and tea are disappointing.

When traveling, I always make a point of trying tearooms, and I must say this was one of the most disappointing experiences that I have ever had. The service was poor. The scones were stale, and had too much cinnamon. When you cut the scones they crumbled. My husband and I were not provided with enough jam and cream. The clotted cream was awful unspreadable, and wasn’t even clotted cream. I cannot recommend this tearoom.

Each time I have gone to tea here it get's worse and worse. The portions are very small and the waitress was clueless. This place has a lot of potential and just always seems to fall short. The sandwiches with a few good selections the scones which are fabulous but are miniscule. The desserts are good but not very imaginative and they are very skimpy with the jam and cream giving each person one or the other. I usually feel stuffed after having tea. This place was the exception

I was esthetically pleased by the way the tea room looked and was looking forward to an enjoyable tea with my best friend.

What I found was an average variety of teas, Domino sugar packets on the table (no cubes or demmerera sugar to be found!) and MILK, no cream.

The scones were tasty but when the jam and cream arrived (on the side of the plate) they were in plastic side cups. The cream was butter mixed with cream cheese, a concoction I'd never heard of being served at tea.

      The service was average.

When I go to tea I want to feel special and have it be a special experience. To say the least, it was extremely disappointing.
