Laura's Tea Room is one of the best! I took tea there with a friend in from out of town, and we had a lovely afternoon of tea, treats, laughter, and shopping. Since I was not able to get a last minute reservation in the past, and almost didn't get in on this Wednesday, I went expecting a fabulous tearoom. And what I found far exceeded my expectations. We were greeted by Carol, the owner, as soon as we walked in to the beautifully restored Thomas Company Store that fills the bottom part of this historic building. We enjoyed a few minutes of browsing the lovely array of gift items before we were personally escorted up the stairs to the Tea Room. Our hostess stopped at the landing for us to pick out a hat to wear for tea, and that was an unexpected moment of fun! After a few minutes of very necessary modeling and primping, we donned our hats and continued to the top of the stairs where, to our delight,a table full of gorgeous teacups awaited our choosing. We then carried our beautiful selections to our awaiting table where we were handed over to our wonderful, attentive server. She had a charming Russian accent and took care to explain the cup warming ceremony as well as to describe the tea that was on the menu for that day. My friend and I both delighted in the delicious Lady Londonderry Tea. It was a fragrant and flowery loose leaf tea, and I enjoyed a change from my typical 'safe' choice of Earl Grey. We each took a bag of Lady Londonderry home with us along with another blend, Blue Lady, recommended by our knowledgeable server. Our first food course was a delicious orange pecan scone served with their version of a devonshire cream. Next, we were served a warm piece of broccoli cheese quiche followed by our much anticipated tiered tray of tea delights. We thoroughly enjoyed our assortment of tea sandwiches, cakes, fruit, and cheese. Our lovely server (and I'm embarrassed that I forgot her name) kept our cups promptly filled with fragrant, hot tea; and she patiently answered all of our questions as she described each course to us. I almost forgot to mention their special iced tea blend that was set at our table, an unexpected and refreshing addition to our afternoon. Our tea ended with a demitasse cup of an interesting blend of peppermint tea to aid digestion... another unexpected delight! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Laura's Tea Room. We had a leisurely visit with the owner, Carol, at our table at the end of our tea. She was very gracious and candidly shared about her tea room. We enjoyed looking at the other beautifully set tables, uncluttered and set far enough apart to allow for intimate conversations, before we headed back downstairs to finish our browsing of tea and non-tea related gifts. We finally bid farewell to the lovely staff and owner, and I am now impatiently awaiting my next chance to visit this lovely tearoom.
