My sister and I are avid 'tea takers,' always seeking out the best tea rooms whenever we're in the same state together. Translation: we are extremely picky and critical of tea services, noting every little detail and nuance each time. While this intro may seem verbose, it is necessary to properly accentuate our review of the Market Tea Room. To state it simply, this is now one of our favorites!
Carolyn, the owner, was most gracious from reservation to bill handling. I called at 11:00 a.m., and was able to talk her into a reservation for 7 at noon the same day. Understand that this is quite a gesture as all (yes, ALL) of her food is made from scratch – down to the Devonshire cream!!! (Although, can you still call it Devonshire if it’s from Vegas? Hmm…) She offers an incredible sele... (more)ction of tea – with great emphasis on her green selections. My favorites amongst my group’s selections were the Black Forest (my choice – tastes just like a liquid version of the cake when you add sugar and cream) and the Lychee green tea (I think I may have finished half of someone’s pot). Great tea, and homemade cooking…PERFECT!
Which leads me to the key part of this review…THE FOOD! Delicious… delectable… scrumptious… pick one, it’s all three descriptions and more. A few of us had the Afternoon Tea (served with the quiche), a few had the Market Tea (served with soup), and a few (a.k.a., moi) could not decide and had the Afternoon Tea with a cup of soup.
The quiche was incredible – moist and tasty…a nice change from the crumbly and dry versions I encounter all too often. The soups…oh my gosh…THE SOUPS! We had a choice of Tomato Basil, Butternut Squash and Turkey Noodle the day we went. I choose Tomato Basil, which was VERY VERY GOOD; however, once I had a taste of the Butternut Squash, I was tempted to order another cup. (I must insert here that 3 people at the table – 2 being HUGE foodies – noted this was the best Butternut Squash Soup they had ever had.)
Fortunately, I ignored my id and opted not to order another cup as the sandwiches she served were out of this world! Of course, there was the traditional sandwiches (cucumber, egg, etc.), but the real winner was Carolyn’s Chicken Salad. Perfectly sized pieces of celery and cranberries were enjoyed with every delightful bite. It was so good, I had no choice but to swipe one from my dad’s tray.
I realized, however, that this was not such a smart move as once I moved on to her desserts, I kicked myself for not reserving more stomach room than I had. No petit fours here – instead, complimenting my tea perfectly were Carolyn’s chocolate and carrots cakes, and bread pudding.
We all enjoyed our experience at the Market Tea Room. Considering our group was comprised of varying levels of tea-takers (first-timers, occasional goers, and, of course, my sister and I – the “tea junkies”), this says volumes. Needless to state, the Market Tea Room is now included as a “must do” for me, whether it’s taking visitors for tea, or dropping in for a quick lunch (see notes above on the Butternut Squash Soup and Chicken Salad Sandwich). Now, if I can only get Carolyn to open up shop in Summerlin…

Owner/chef is charming and the tea presentation is gorgeous. Everything fresh..Devonshire cream...proper lemon curd...amazing soups and scones made in heaven. Carolyn has an extensive selection of loose and individual teas in some delicate flavorings I'd never imagined. I have taken two groups of friends here who were quite blown away that this pretty gem is hiding next to Sunset Park. It is a do-not-miss!
