We held my daughters baby shower last weekend at Simply Fresh Restaurant. The place was lovely, the food and service was outstanding. The owner stated they changed the name and the concept, however all the family recipes are still available. We were so glad they are still doing private parties!

My 10 year old daughter and I visited for the first time today and I'm so glad we did. The atmosphere was formal and very inviting. Our waiter was very prompt and polite and checked on us frequently. We each ordered the same thing, the veggie croissiant, which came with chips and soup. Well my daughter and I are vegetarian and there was no vegetarian option on the soup menu, do I told waiter that we did not want soup. He asked if I was sure and I told him why. He came a moment later and said he told the owner why we declined the soup and said that he offerrd to give us spinach baguettes in place of the soup. I thought that was so nice, and they were very delicious! We ordered peach iced tea and it was so cold and refreshing. And to top off our excellent meal, my daughter had the chocolatr cake, which I tasted and it was delicious! And I had the lemon bar. I LOVE lemon bars, and this was the best I've ever had! It was served very warm and it was divine! It was not a cheap meal, but I believe in you get what you pay for, and it was totally worth it. We will definitely be returning! Soon!

I took my mom and 2 year old daughter here, because we are on a 'Tea Room Tour' this summer! Twice a week we try new or revisit tea rooms around town. I thought the atmosphere here was nice. Pretty table settings and chair covers. The food was just fine. My only complaint is the lack of a kids menu and no kids cups. My 2 year old was served her milk in a lovely and breakable tea cup. We got a straw for her though and made it work. I wish they had crackers or fruit available to keep her happy and busy. She had some of my sandwich but it sure would have been nice if they offered a small kids menu like all of the other tea rooms I've been to. Or maybe some sort of sign saying that children aren't really welcome here. I don't mind a tea room that prefers no children, I just think it was sad to note this after we already had drinks delivered. We could have made alternate plans. I'm a teacher and since I'm off for the summer, I try to take my daughter out for ladies lunches with my mom often. This place would be nice for meeting friends and for gatherings like showers. Just leave the very little ones at home.

I must have come here on a bad day. Two men were running around trying to serve people and take orders; they did a very poor job. Our server confused our order and then forgot what dessert we ordered. Once we finished our meal it took another 30 minutes to get our ticket and pay! The food was average, the prices were not. We paid too much for food I could have made at home. I don't care about the shopping, the food and service left A LOT left to be desired. I will not go back.

We have been driving by this little house for months and finally decided to stop in for a visit. What a great place to shop and have a lovely lunch. Thanks for making us feel like we were part of the family. The couple that was seated at the table in the other room, said we were in for a real treat! They said they drive all the way from Alvin at least once a week for lunch. My husband thought they had to be related to the owner.Later we learned it was Al & Bettye Welling from Alvin,Texas. My husband Hank bought his first Cadillac from Al Welling Motor Company in Alvin many many moons ago. What a small world we live in. Good luck with your new banquet room, we know you will be very successful !

Based on some of the snotty responses from the tea room on this review page, I am sure to expect one based on my poor review. They were late opening, and gave our party 'free' champagne because of this. Ok, fair enough. Then the gentleman ignored our opposition to prayer time, because “we were in his house”. Granted we were, but we were paying customers with our own religious preferences in his house. We were all very nice, not that we approved, but because we took the higher ground, after he ignored us. On to the meal, it was very good but also very small. My elderly grandmother, that everyone complains doesn’t eat enough could have cleaned her plate. Then, the gentlemen reminds us that our champagne was on the house, but instead charges us $20 per person versus the $15 per person we were quoted. All of this made him think that he should promote a book that he was selling. What? I will not be coming back, and I have told everyone I know in the area about this incident. Hopefully my entire group will. I just hope no one else is exposed to this arrogant individual.

      Tearoom response:

      Dear Maf,

I asked if someone would like to say a blessing, and some times people are bashful. So I just sang my Grandmothers blessing... Be present at our table lord ! I am truely sorry that I offended you! Bless You:)

I liked that this was a family owned establishment with a beautiful little girl serving us. However, I came with a group and we were overcharged despite the owner's original quote. Additionally, not everyone in our group was Christian, so some of the group members were offended when he insisted on praying over us despite our objections. This is the second time I have seen the owner offend a group since visiting the tea room. The last time was several months ago when I saw him have an argument with another lady with a group she brought into the restaurant. At the time I was dining with a friend of mine. I decided to give him another chance this time since I didn't know what prefaced the argument, but seeing him add additional charges to our group has made me wonder about the owner's business ethics. I hope the owner will consider this when he works with other groups.

      Tearoom response:

Thank you for the kind words... The little girl is my daughter!:) Please understand that we have a policy that a $400 bench mark has to be met to have the room to yourself. $400.00 plus 20% gratuity and 8% sales tax. When we close our door to walk in business we have to place a value on that. Your group did not call 72 hours in advance, to confirm your book club was coming. For $20.00 per person inclusive of tax and Gratuity, your group had the room to yourself for $200.00 total plus free Mimosas.
I previously visited this tearoom when it was under a different name and ownership. I had a very positive experience at that time and subsequently recommended it as a venue for an upcoming book club review meeting. My experience this time under new ownership can only be described as 'unfortunate'. This is not because of the food or decor lacking but because of the owner's arrogance and complete lack of sensitivity towards its guests. When asked if we would like to say a prayer before the meal, the response was 'no'. The owner then stated, 'well, this is my house and we're going to have a prayer'. I saw no indication (by signage or other advertisement) that the Milk Pail was a faith based restaurant. The owner's belief that some of the ladies enjoyed his imposed prayer is a further indication of his lack of sensitivity as we were just trying to be polite so that he would let us get on with our meal and discussion. Overcharging us is inexcusable. The lunch menu clearly stated $11.95 for soup, entree and dessert. Charging us $20/person and then trying to suggest that we got a bargain is laughable. Where will a group of 10-15 people pay $400 for lunch ($26-$40/person)? Certainly not at a place that can't even remember a reservation. The imposed praying and teachings followed by being overcharged seems like a bit of a paradox.

      Tearoom response:

      Reena,

Sorry that I offended your group. Please not I did not overcharge your group, please do the math. $11.95 food ( spinach dip on baguette, cup of soup, entree, & dessert) $2.25 tea, $2.25 coffee, $4.00 pot of tea, 20% Gratuity, 8% Sales Tax, free mimosas.

The food was pretty good. The turkey & Swiss sandwich was ok, maybe it would have been better if it was on a croissant. Your grandmothers lemon bars are the best. The owner forgot our book club had a reservation, overcharged us for the same food that was on the menu for $11.95, and felt the need to pray over our group and talk to us about Jesus and the tombstone. As a Christian, I was offended that he needed to share with his beliefs with our group and then overcharge us, while also promoting his friend's book.

      Tearoom response:

      Dear Lisa,
When we book a private party for two hours we charge $400 ++. We take a $100 non-refundable deposit, and we require a call 72 hours out with a firm count. No one called with a firm count and I did forget liked I said when I arrived six minutes late. For the six minutes we offered free champaign and did not charge for the 15 people guarantee for this event. If I charged ($11.95 for soup,entree,dessert),$2.25 tea,$3.00 for a pot of tea,$2.25 for coffee,20% service charge,8% sales tax, the total per person would have exceeded the $20 per person I charged you. As for praying over you, I sang a blessing my Grandmother sang to us children at her table. Some of the ladies liked it! Everything went off like promised and everyone said what a great lunch they had. As for my story about the folded napkin, the moral to the story was I hope everyone would return to The Milk Pail. You had the room from 11:06 until 1:30 for only $200 and free champaign! You got a great deal. I hope you forgive me for ' praying over your group', I know you will because you are a good christian. Have a blessed day.

What a wonderful eating experience. A beautiful old house with lots of trinkets to look at. A lovvely dining room where we were served the most scrumptious food on beautiful antique china. Soft music to encourage quiet conversation, And OH the food! A sausage quiche that melted in my mouth, homamade potato soup that brought back childhood memories and stayed hot to the last drop. My friend and I ate every bit and had to hold onto our manners and not lick the dishes when we finishd! I had lemon squares warmed just right with more hot apple tea. My friend had carrot cake that tasted like none he'd ever had before. All served by a most congenial guy name Jay. Actually I felt like family by the time we left. Let me politely mention the prices were most appropriate. Whoever reads this; do yourself a favor and visit 'The Milk Pail' and I guarantee you'll keep going back!

Well, my husband and I went here just to try it out as much as he did not want to! As we were waiting for our waiter to take our order, we saw a huge cockaroach on the wall! So my husband casually walked over to it and smashed it. Then after our order was taken, I found another bug on my husband's shoulder and killed that! But alas the roach did not die so my husband went over to it and killed it again. The sandwiches tasted okay, nothing that we couldn't make at our home for cheaper...was a real let down.

Where to begin? Our tomato basil soup was basically Campbell's tomato soup in a tea cup. If I dare to return I will bring my own can of Campbell's. It was so quite in there you could hear a mouse fart and my company was nodding off to the low whispering music which was Silent Night (in June). Not to mention the rocket scientist of a waiter whom I asked to split the check...Came back to tell me and I quote said, 'Don't be mad, I put it all on the card.' Needless to say- we won't be returning.

      Tearoom response:

      Dear Ms. Spencer

Where to begin? Silent Night was only one song that Susan Boyles sings on her new CD. I like the CD however I can not take that track off the CD sorry. You were in today and sat at table 4. We were packed ( 30 mimute wait) so I don't think you could really hear a mouse fart. As far as your taste for the soup to each his own. The Tomato Basil is my mothers receipe and you are the first person who thought it was out of a can. As for the waitor I told everyone in the room that he was new and in training, I am sorry that he put everything on your card. He told me he gave you the cash to make up for his error. I hope 13.23 does not put you over your credit card limit, if it does please contact me and I will refund you the $. Needless to say I won't be mad that you won't be returning.

Thank you, Chef Jay, for providing the Vibrant Valentine's Red Hat chapter with such a lovely and delicious meal! The peach tea was very refreshing! It was a pleasure to dine at the Milk Pail, then follow the meal with shopping in the Antique Mall. We will tell all of our friends about our fine experience there!

I went to the Alvin Antique Mall for the first time on Saturday afternoon and notice this cute little tea room called the “Milk Pail” in the back corner. I figure whiled my husband and Aunt were shopping I could get a bit to eat. The white linen tables with roses made the atmosphere was very inviting and cozy so I walked inside and sat down. I was greeted by Jay, who later I found out was the owner and chef. He immediately informed me about the special of the day which was Chicken Salad sandwich, and Tomato Basil soup. A few minutes later he served me the most delicious sweet Raspberry tea and artichoke dip on toasted baguette. While enjoying my appetizer and tea, I had time to chat with a few of the other guests and admire the lovely antiques. My lunch arrived on fine china and half way through my meal, my husband and Aunt finally stopped to see what I had been up too. When they saw how delicious my chicken salad sandwich and tomato Basil soup were, they ordered the special of their own. We had a lovely lunch and didn’t even realize the dessert was apart of the special. When Jay offered us the Chocolate Cake, Lemon Zest or Bread Pudding, it was very hard to decide. I chose the Lemon Zest and it was served warm with powered sugar. Delicious and delightful is all I can say. The portions were perfect, the environment was pleasant, and plenty of antiques to go shopping for! We will definitely be back for Tea Time; what a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Thanks Jay! :o)

Could only think of good things to say about the Milk Pail. The apple crunch cake is to die for. When we went, he had just closed 1/2 hr. before, but decided to take us anyway because of our sad sack faces.

I heard about the Milk Pail from a coworker, and find any excuse I can to take a trip there. The atmosphere is very nice, and I love the food; from start (artichoke dip on toasted baguette) to nice sized dessert (apple cake or bread pudding). I love antiques, so the fact that I get to shop and then visit this tea room; well it is just icing on the cake. Thank you so much for sharing your Grandma's wonderful food with us!

We ate at the Tea Room on Wednesday 11/26/08. I had a Turkey and Swiss with tomato basil soup. I want more please. I'm not usually a tomato soup eater but this was absolutely wonderful. It plus the cake will be my reason for coming back. If you are antiquing in the Alvin area, you must eat at the Milk Pail. Thanks for a great dining experience.

Delicious food, a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, and uncommonly friendly service make this tearoom a winner. I give it very high marks!

I am really not a Tea Room person, so I can't respond with great knowledge. However, I do know that each time I visit this special place tucked away in the Antique Mall I slow down to enjoy the deliciously prepared and presented offerings. I am never disappointed. Chef Jay always takes the time to greet us and ask if we are satisfied. I look forward to his plans to expand the menue so I can enjoy even more of his talents. Give it a try and be sure to sign up for the birthday club.

The Milk Pail tearoom was our delightful bright spot on a drizzly Saturday afternoon! Tasty soups, a wonderful variety of salads and sandwiches, fresh fruit, yummy desserts, good coffee and teas. The Chef is an enthusiastic host who obviously trains his servers to be attentive to the needs of their customers. A very pleasant experience and one I hope to repeat very soon!!

If you're truly seeking a tea room, this might be a bit of a disappointment. Ok for deli or cafe, but tea room with 'country' flair?

Wow!!! By far the best tea room around. The food is beyond wonderful, the presentation of food is superb. The best peach tea I have ever had!! Don't forget the desert, I suggest the lemon bar. This place is booked for my grandaughter's birthday Tea room and etiquette party.

My husband and I happened upon this quaint little tearoom while visiting an antique mall in Alvin, Texas. Not expecting much in the way of a tearoom, let alone the food, we were quite pleased to find that the service was A+. The food was the best that we had eaten by far in any of the tearooms we had visited in and around the Houston area. You are greeted by a warm hostess, followed by the Chef, Jay Ewend (I say chef because he was definitely dressed as one and later proved to cook as one) who was awesome and served us with a smile throughout our whole lunch. We started the meal off with spinach dip on melba toast, followed by the potato soup and chicken mini ravioli soup, all of which were awesome so far. We then had the Chef's famous waldorf chicken salad on a croissant, served with a teacup full of fresh fruit and the dessert was heavenly. We shared the chocolate cake and the apple spice cake. The care and presentation was magnificent. I whispered to my husband that this chef definitely did care about pleasing his customers. For this being a tearoom, and my husband and I walking in with shorts and t-shirt, we were treated and made to feel as though we had stepped into a fancy 5 star restaurant. We highly recommend that if you are around this area, you would definitely not want to miss this best kept secret in Alvin, Texas. I know the next time we are in the area we are definitely planning to stop by and enjoy the food! Thank alot for a memorable time! John & Gloria Kleindienst
