The Mathis House was everything, I expected from a Victorian Tea Room. The food was excellent, the server was very friend. They had live piano music. We enjoyed the purple themed room with butterflies and flowers. Parking was available behind the house.

I visited 600 Main tea room today for the first time with friends to celebrate a birthday. Our experience was wonderful from beginning to end. The decor was lovely, just what you would expect from a Victorian Inn. Therr was a nice selection of hats to choose from to add to your afternoon tea experience. The staff were friendly and attentive. I liked being able to smell the tea leaves when selecting my personal pot. There were 4 options and since there were 4 of us we were able to try all four teas. There was a wonderful selection of food, of which was delicious from beginning to end. We really had a great afternoon.

I brought a group friends to the tea room recently. We had a wonderful time. The food was good, especially the desserts, which were delicious. The scones could have been a little more flavorful, not the usual quality we are used to here. The sandwiches and savories were good also. The tea selection is always impressive, and we enjoy getting to smell the loose tea samples before making our selection-a great idea. Each of us had a different tea, and all were pleased with the choices. The staff was very attentive and kept our party going along smoothly, always checking to see if we needed anything. They let us linger a bit too, which was thoughtful. The inside of this tea room is lovely, a real gem, with lots of Victorian atmosphere. It's in a 19th century sea captain's home in downtown Toms River, NJ and has great woodwork, fireplaces, and antiques. The only observation all of us had pertained to the grounds, outside the tea room. The property really needs some work. For example, the large garden in the circular area out front was all overgrown and full of weeds. The place looked unkempt, especially for this time of year, spring. It must be very expensive to maintain an old house and property such as this, but it's imperative that the owners be more attentive to the curb appeal, as that is what people see when prospective tea patrons drive by or arrive at the tea room for their reservation. Otherwise, my friends and I had a very nice time over afternoon tea at 600 Main.

I have been to 600 Main twice and plan to visit again in the Fall. Both experiences were very enjoyable. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I have been to many Tea Rooms, and this one is one of the very best.

I seem to be in the vast minority with an extremely disappointing experience at the tea room. While the ambiance was nice, and the tomato soup was good, the watermelon and arugula salad was minus the arugula except for a sprig or two, and the rest of the food , especially the sandwiches and desserts were nothing like any I've ever had at other tea rooms. Whoever heard of thick rolls, and salami and cheese at a tea room? The desserts were even more unacceptable -- only the lemon tart was good. My daughter took one bite of each and rejected them. The service left me appalled -- my spreader, thick with curd, was placed back on the knife holder. Needless to say I will not recommend this place, and surely will not be coming back.

We enjoyed our first time at 600 Main this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. We were a party of 5,we made reservations ahead of time. The house is just beautiful, and was much lager than I expected(based on past tea house experiences). We were greeted right away, had our coats taken, and were seated .The staff was very friendly, and efficient. We were offered a selection of loose teas to view and smell,I chose Lemon Lavender, and was not disappointed. The tea was delicious,I drank the whole pot! We started off with a wonderful lentil soup served in tea cups(very cute)then a delicious crust less quiche over mixed greens. The sandwich selection and mini desserts came out next,on a pretty tierd tray ,the mini tartlet was my favorite, but all the sandwiches were tasty. The mini desserts were just the right size,I loved the crumb cake! They also presented me with a cute sponge cake with drizzled chocolate and berries with a candle, that was a nice surprise! All in all ,we had a great experience, and would definitely do it again. The house was still decorated for Christmas, and all the fireplaces were going,it was really lovely! The staff was wonderful, the food was great, and they had a big selection of loose tea,and my pot stayed hot the whole visit!!

My husband and I stayed overnight in the Lady Genevieve. We had an unbelievable time in this beautiful, Victorian home. Susan and John were the most gracious hosts and made us feel completely at home. The afternoon tea was amazing! Susan makes everything herself and you can tell she puts her heart and soul into everything she does. I have already reserved two dates in the future to return because we had such an awesome time! Thank you Susan and John for the experience! See you both soon.

We hosted a baby shower for 20 over Labor Day weekend and were so pleased with the experience. The mansion and tea room are already beautifully decorated, so there is no real need to add anything yourself. Their extensive tea menu allowed our guests to enjoy a traditional black alongside fruit, nut and rose varieties (you get to smell the loose blends in advance when you make your selection). Their menu includes soup and salad in addition to scones and assorted savories and sweets. Remembering specific praise, our guests particularly enjoyed the tomato basil soup, scones and chicken salad sandwiches. And they even brought out takeaway containers for us to save the extras.

600 Main is a terrific combination of elegant and cozy. The fact that it isn't a huge venue made for a more intimate experience for our event. We were able to make use of not just the tea room but the foyer and front sitting room at different parts of the afternoon.

Susan, the innkeeper, is a warm hostess and pleasure to work with. When we were finalizing 600 Main as a venue (but didn't have time to stay for a full tea service), she graciously hosted me and my parents for an abbreviated sampling. Through and through, she and Kim (our server) were extremely accommodating of our various requests, from dietary restrictions to last-minute table seating rearrangements. Our event was memorable for the occasion, the joy of our guest of honor and being able to bring family together after some time; however, the setting of 600 Main was a key part of it being so special.

We just had my Daughter's bridal shower at 600 Main Street. It was a wonderful experience. Everyone enjoyed the variety of teas. My daughter, who normally does not enjoy tomato soup, said it was one of the best soups she's ever had. The watermelon salad was a perfect choice for the summer. Cranberry orange scone was to die for. Tea sandwiches and deserts were amazing. Afterwards, we adjoined to the living room for presents. The presentation, taste, service, and atmosphere makes this place a true find. Thanks Susan for making this a memorable event for my Daughter. We will definitely see you again and again!!!

A wonderfully presented and elegantly served traditional high tea in a magnificently decorated Victorian home is what we happily experienced in this wonderful B&B. We enjoyed a delicious tropical fruit flavored tea along with a savory creamed mushroom soup and celery and cheese salad with lemon vinaigrette. The scones were light as a feather and the homemade clotted cream was incredibly delicious. The desserts were delectable and were a wonderful finish for our experience. The service was first rate and the attention given to every detail from the table settings to the room decor was a pleasure from beginning to end. We're already planning a return trip!

We were guests of the B&B for a week and attended tea one afternoon. The event started with friendly staff and a menu of available teas, of which we could select quite a few, as well daily specials. (I recommend the strawberries and cream if it's available.) From there, small appetizers were offered (tomato-basil soup, celery salad, etc.) that change from time to time. To round off the experience, finger foods were enjoyed, both savory and sweet and of a great variety.

The decor was classical in its presentation. Susan has quite the set of teacups from which to choose - a style for every taste. If you're so inclined, they even have hats you can wear while you lunch!

Went for tea to 600 Main with five friends. Started with featured sample teas to smell(unbrewed), cucumber water, homemade basil tomato soup, celery salad. We were then served an assortment of delicious and beautiful tea sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and lemon curd. Ended with an adorable assortment of sweets made by an in house pastry chef! And what an assortment of teas! This place is the real thing, from service to decor to food. EXCELLENT !!!

This was a surprise Mother's Day present from my daughter. It was our first experience in a tea room and having High Tea. The tea room is beautifully decorated with Victorian period furnishings as well as the antique china, silver, tablecloths and crystal. The tea was amazing and the soup, salad, scone, finger sandwiches and petite sweets were a delight. Both the owner Sue and our server Kim were warm and welcoming. We had a wonderful time enjoying this three hour event. After the tea we were given a tour of the gorgeous rooms of the bed and breakfast upstairs. An added bonus to this wonderful day was we made some new friends at the next table, who want to revisit this again.

We had the best tea party ever and we are professional and experienced tea examiners. It was the best experience we've had. The Almond Joy tea was the best! Peach tea is a non-miss and Raspberry tea was delightful. Everything was tea down to the soap in the bathroom. The soap smelt so great I never want to wash my hands again! (Well, for the sake of germs I probably will) Kim our server was so personable and fantastic. If you want terrific service when you reserve your party definitely recommend her to wait on you. She is the best server yet in my life I've ever seen! Don't bother going to another Bed & Breakfast because THIS IS THE PLACE!!!!! Don't resist going, you will not be disappointed! I recently hosted a bridal shower for my daughter at 600 Main. I cannot praise the inn keepers Susan and John enough! I want to thank, hug, thank and hug Susan again for making this one of the best events in our lives. Every detail, from the delicious mushroom soup, to the quiche, to the amazing scone and outstanding variety of tea sandwiches and sweets were nothing short of 5 star. There was something for every taste bud and finicky eater. Our servers Kim and Kim were outstanding. My guests have called or texted several times to thank me and I have heard nothing but praise from all who attended. I'm sorry it's over! (But luckily we can have tea there anytime we want). If you are looking for a nice afternoon tea or hosting a larger group, and want something different than the usual, look no further....This is the place.

This is truly an oasis in the middle of Toms River. From the time we stepped into this beautiful inn we felt like we were visiting the home of a close friend. We were welcomed, our coats were hung, and we were shown to a beautiful table by a window looking out at the backyard. It was lightly snowing, both fireplaces were blazing and it was the start of something special. The antique teacups, plates, and cutlery set the stage for an amazing array of homemade goodies. The soup, salad, savories and sweets were delicious. There was a large selection of loose tea: black, green, white, decaf. We chose a pot of decaf raspberry and a pot of Victorian Christmas. The owner, Sue, makes sure to visit and talk with everyone. Servers take care to refill tea and make sure everything is perfect. We spent the whole afternoon enjoying our tea and talking. Will definitely go back. Reservations required. Every table was taken! Next time I would like to purchase some scones to bring home. The cranberry scones were great. Thanks Sue!

I'll start by saying this is my third tea. I've been to teas in NYC and Florida. I have super high expectations, have super picky food tastes and am hard to impress. 600 Main Street impressed me beyond belief. My mom held my baby shower there yesterday. Not only was the venue aptly decorated for Christmas, it was warm, cozy and very clean!

The food was outrageous. My husband and I eat out a lot and the food was on par with excellent restaurants out there. The mushroom soup was creamy but not too creamy, perfect consistency and the perfect temperature. Never mind the taste. Incredible. The celery salad was simple but delicious and refreshing. The quiche was outrageous. My mother who doesn't like eggs devoured the quiche. Both scones we tried (cranberry with white chocolate and sundries tomato) were perfect. The sandwiches were also the perfect size and delicious (the avocado Blt was so yummy). And then there was the tea. Holy moly perfectly brewed deliciousness. We tried four types- strawberry, English breakfast and Hanukkah (last one I forgot). They really were perfectly brewed.

The service was great and the owners were very present and helpful. We will definitely return.

Thank you for the perfect shower.

I had my sisters Bridal Shower at 600 Main and loved every second of planning and enjoying the day itself. I had stopped by numerous times and looked around the beautiful Victorian house with my mom and grandmother. Susan is the sweetest person you will ever meet and really made my sisters shower such a special day. Every time I called or stopped by Susan was always there to help! The food was excellent at the party, I had gotten so many calls from everyone who attended thanking us for such a nice afternoon and telling us how delicious everything was. All of the food was so fresh, you didn't feel like you ate a salt and grease filled meal like at a restaurant. My sisters and I and a very good friend just surprised my mom with a retirement party at 600 Main, Victorian Tearoom, this past Sunday. What a great place for an authentic teaparty. It was truly beautiful and my mom can't stop talking about the place. Ornate rooms decorated beautifully. Susan, the proprietor, certainly did her research well. The details were carried out perfectly. She thought of everything to make a perfect Victorian Tearoom. My mom loved it so much that she is coming back to actually spend the weekend in this bed and breakfast. Easy on and off the Garden State Parkway. Affordable and elegant. Very welcoming. It is hard to picture a better place for an elegant, yet quite modestly priced, afternoon tea than this lovely and historic turn-of-the-20th century mansion in Toms River. While staying at the B & B in late March, I was able to arrange an intimate Victorian tea for close friends and family in the cozy 'library' room, with its spectacular Moroccan leather ceiling and leather walls (impressive!) and its lovely window view of the expansive back lawn. The Victorian decor of the china and furnishings, the precisiion and elegance of the food preparation and presentation, were remarkable. Each person had his or her own large teapot of freshly-brewed tea, chosen individually from an impressive list of offerings, some quite unusual and all delicious. The array of scones, pastries, cookies, fruit, compotes and other tasty goodies, all offered in abundance and with the friendliest, most attentive service, was likewise remarkable. Our guests felt truly special to be there, as our host made them feel very welcome and 'at home.' Much of what they experienced was due to the extraordinary energy, culinary talent, and personal warmth of our smiling, humorous, hospitable host, Susan Notte, who makes everything she touches more wonderful. Thanks for a great teatime!

Susan brought out several tea leaves that were featured that day and explained their qualities with great knowledge. It is difficult to believe Susan is new to this. The food was excellent . From soup to salad to savory items and dessert it is difficult to select a favorite as each homemade item is delicious. I hosted a baby shower for my daughter-in-law at 600 Main and this was the best decision I could have made. My guests are still talking about what a beautiful day they had and how different this event was. Susan, the owner, is the best. I loved working with her to make all of the arrangements and her staff on the day of the shower could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The food was all homemade, delicious and abundant. The choice of teas was varied and each guest had the opportunity to try any or all flavors. My personal favorite was the cranberry harvest. The menu served as a conversation starter as the guests tasted each course. The venue itself is beautiful, cozy and historic. I was sorry to see the day come to an end. I could not have been more pleased with every aspect of our event. Susan made each guest and the mom to be feel very special, comfortable and welcomed. I would highly recommend 600 Main for this type of event or for an afternoon tea with friends. Susan will make your time at 600 Main a time to remember.

I have been an afternoon tea lover since my mom and I met an English friend for tea in London in June 1986! Yesterday my friend and I had one of the most memorable teas ever at the new Victorian tearoom, 600 Main, in downtown Toms River. To say it was fantastic is an understatement. From the moment owner Susan greeted us at the door until we parted (I gave her a big hug on the way out), everything--and I mean everything--was absolutely perfect. It is hard to believe that Susan is new at this, for she seems like a seasoned pro to me. Susan has made some changes for the better, I think, since the previous owner ran the tea room. First, outside, the grounds in the front are beautiful now, having been cleared and planted, so that you can really appreciate the façade of this grand old sea captain’s home. Inside the atmosphere seems lighter and airier, perhaps indicative of its new owner. There are additional tea rooms on the first floor now. Susan has added a restroom on the first floor, too, so that tea patrons don’t have to climb the long staircase to the second floor. The tea rooms are immaculate--beautifully appointed with lovely china, linens, and silver, and the baby grand piano now graces the foyer. Susan was attentive as soon as we were seated, starting us off with bottled water and cucumber garnish. Next we had a delicious mushroom soup served in sweet tea cups, and then on to a wonderful celery salad in small martini glasses. Ah, then the scone course, which consisted of one of the best scones ever, tropical, with homemade lemon curd and cream. The texture of the scone was just right. Our pot of tea, a tangerine flavored tea, was brewed to perfection and stayed hot the entire time (a rarity in tea rooms, I have found). The tea was so delicious on its own that it did not require any accoutrements, such as honey or lemon. When the two-tiered tray of sandwiches, savories, and sweets came out I just could not contain myself. The variety and presentation were some of the best I have ever seen in a tea room—each item a gem. The petite desserts were outstanding, and I understand they were prepared by a recent culinary graduate. Kudos to her! Susan, bless your heart for pampering my friend and me yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed your afternoon tea, and we are delighted that downtown Toms River has its long-awaited lovely tea room. We hope this is the start of great things for you, Susan, for your Victorian tea room, 600 Main, and for downtown Toms River, too.

Visiting 600 Main under new management was the best decision I've made in a long time! Everything is beautiful, from the house, to the decor, even down to the teacups! The service was consistent, the tea was delicious, and the food was simply the best I've had in a while. It was easy to tell without asking that the food is prepared similarly to a home cooked meal, but with the delicacy of a tea room. The owners are warm, pleasant, and friendly. It feels more like visiting friends at their home than visiting an establishment. Very cozy, very nice, very memorable. Can't wait to come back.

We went on Mother's Day and it was positively lovely. The tea was delish and the food divine. The house was drop dead gorgeous and every attention to detail was there. We felt like we stepped back in time in a good way. The table settings were beautiful and every place setting was unique and special. The service was stupendous. Thank you for making our visit so very special!!

600 Main Victorian Tearoom is absolutely the best tearoom I've ever visited. They have an extensive offering of tea and begin with setting three 'highlighted' loose-leaf teas on a tray for you to be tempted by as you look over the menue of teas. After making your tea selection, the meal begins with course after delicious course of home-made soup, scones (with clotted cream and lemon curd), tea sandwiches and tea desserts. And your full-size pot of tea is served with a cozy! I can't believe the number of tea rooms I've been to that overlook the necessity of keeping the tea hot! Thank you, Sue, for the beautiful tea cozies! We made a 3:30 reservation and were so full, that we all skipped dinner that night (including my husband) and weren't hungry all evening! Next time, I'll ask for some of my food to be wrapped--it was a feast! The hostess, Susan, is very friendly and informative. She's done a lovely job restoring a beautiful home. The house itself is worthy its own review! The tea 'room' is actually three rooms on the ground floor. Each room is charmingly furnished and elegantly cozy. And the tea cup collection! You get to browse the rooms and select the cup you want to drink from--many of them gorgeous antiques. A visit here is a delightful treat!

One of the best Afternoon Teas I have ever had the tea sandwichs, the scones and the desserts were wonderful. My Husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. The owners were very nice and we really liked hearing about the history of their home. We will definately be back again. What a lovely afternoon.

My sister and I visited this tea room on March 14th. We were pleasantly surprised at the authentic decor and quality of the afternoon tea. The menu is delicious with a tremendous amount of offerings. Sue, the owner, is warm and charming. We enjoyed hearing of her experience in purchasing the Mathis House and the history it holds. You will not be disappointed with this tea house. I can't wait to return!

I had the pleasure of visiting this tea house last week. It was like taking a trip back to a time when life was more genteel. The tea offerings were subperb. The presentation with the tea pot wrapped in a cosy was the best. Our tea was warm throughout the whole meal and meal it was. There was so much to eat we surely gained a few pounds. Susan the owner couldn,t have been more helpful. We were 10 older ladies and one gentleman (who wants to go back) everyone of us can,t rave enough about everything. We will be back soon. Thank you Susan and Gail for a most enjoyable afternoon. Please consider this as ten reviews as I'm the only one with a computer.

My husband and I visit 2 to 3 tearooms per week and last week we had tea here for the first time. Not only was the food and service wonderful, but we had the pleasure of meeting the owner. Susan was so easy to talk to and made our visit even more enjoyable. There was so much food, that we took home our desserts and enjoyed them the next day. A visit to this tearoom is a must if you truly enjoy going to Afternoon Tea and we are looking forward to our next visit in the very near future.

On Wednesday, the 30th of January, I introduced a good friend to Susan Notte and her newly acquired 600 Main. Ever since I have lived in this area, I have wanted to visit this beautiful Victorian tea room. Susan and her husband have made it the shining star of Main Street in Toms River. I have been a part of serving the teas at the Ocean County Historical Society, and I know how a tea is properly served.

Susan has done an excellent job...with her sparkling personality, her delicious teas, and her very tastey tea sandwiches and desserts. One couldn't want more. This historical home has been spruced up. It is light and bright and so warm and comfortable. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

A must see, a must visit and a must experience 'Afternoon High Tea' at 600 on Main. Susan Notte the innkeeper (as she would like to be called), transformed this beautiful mansion into a visit from the past. A warm and inviting Bed and Breakfast (great rooms) with the added bonus of a tea parlor. I have experienced high tea and this one is right up there. Involved in the culinary world I was pleasantly surprised at the preparation of sweet and savory offerings. Everything was delicious and homemade. The service was very attentive and relaxing. My family will be returning on a regular basis and will bring more family and friends. Thank you!

Being as I had never experienced a true 'English Tea' before, I was not sure what to expect. After Visiting 600 on Main, I am so sorry I waited so long! From the moment you drive up to this spectacular mansion, you feel a part of something special. Every room more beautiful than the last hosting a wide variety of teas, and a delicious array of treats served graciously by attentive and cheerful women who you feel are a part of your party. Susan Notte has truly transformed this versatile Bed & Breakfast into a palace. Truly a wonderful afternoon. Thank you!

A timeless elegance has come to Toms River, NJ with the re-opening of 600 Main, a lovely bed & breakfast and Victorian Tea Room. The new owner Susan Notte is delightful and extremely creative. The homemade selections were all delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was very personable and very attentive. All in all, my friend and I had a lovely afternoon and I look forward to my next visit. Treat yourself to a complete sensory experience. You won't be disappointed.

This tea room is a fantastic find! I went with friends to celebrate a birthday and we were treated like queens at this Queen's Tea. The tea room is part of a glorious bed and breakfast that is decorated to make you feel as though you stepped back in time. Big fireplaces in each room just put the finishing touch on the whole lovely victorian experience. Beautiful china adorned each table and the selection of teas was wonderful and varied. Every morsel of food was all homemade, beautifully presented and served with a smile. There was enough food to satisy as a meal as well. And the owner, Susan, happily boxed our leftovers to go. My friends and I enjoy the whole tea experience and have been to several in New Jersey - THIS tea room is a treasure for sure!

A good friend and I were in much need of a good 'catching-up' and decided to make a reservation at the Queen Victoria Tea Room which we heard was under new ownership. What a lovely experience we had this afternoon! Upon entering the exquisite buidling, which we learned is also a bed and nreakfast, we were warmly welcomed by owner Susan Notte and guided to a beautifully set table in one of the elegant rooms. We were presented with a great assortment of both savory and sweet food - all delicious and all homemade. The server was very sweet and friendly and quite knowledgable about the wide variety of teas offered as well. My friend and I were able to take our time and enjoy every each other's company as well as every course from the homemade soup to delectible sweets. It was a truly wonderful experience - and we will be back!

Having gone to Tea Rooms all over PA and NJ, incl. Sally Lunn's, Teaberry's, and the Four Seasons in Philly, I was eagerly looking forward to my visit to Queen Victoria Tea Room at Victoria on Main B&B. Sadly, my experience there was awful! Owner/hostess greeted us in dirty gardening clothes, having apparently forgotten she had reservations expected. We waited 30 minutes to be seated, and another 40 minutes for our tea and food, which was not worth the wait. Few choices of tea, which was a cup of tepid water with a diffuser of a 1/4 teaspoon of loose tea which barely colored the water, a choice of 3 small sandwiches out of 4 listed, 1 stale scone from a choice of 2 flavors, with no spreads, and a very small, very stale piece of cake. Deplorable. Stay far, far, away from this establishment!

The food was excellent, but lacking in enough to provide for everyone. The hostess was not the the most polite. Tea provided was not enough to enjoy the entire pot. Have visited many tea rooms in NJ and out of state, this experience was one of my least favorite.

The Queen Victoria Tea is lovely. Presentation ... tablesetting ... teapots ... was beautiful. They have a nice selection of finger sandwiches, scones and great tea choices. I had the french vanilla tea. In addition to the tea room, it's a bed and breakfast.

I have been to a number of tea rooms in New Jersey, out of state, and abroad. The Queen Victoria Tea Room in Toms River was absolutely lovely. The sandwiches were delicious, the orange cream scone was fabulous, and the sweets (carrot cake and miniature apple pie) were very good. The table was set beautifully in a lovely dining room. The only recommendation would be to remove the loose tea from the teapot before serving. The first cup of tea was great; however, subsequent cups were too strong, as the tea was over-steeped. All in all I had a very pleasant experience and look forward to returning soon. This is one of Toms River's best kept secrets!
