I have been a Townshend's groupie since the beginning. Bend has little to offer by way of fine teas and Townshend's provides a comfortable setting for all kinds of people to enjoy great teas and expand their palate. I know all the tea tenders, new and old, and I've never had reason to complain. Yes, the teahouse does get busy and sometimes you have to wait a while for your tea. But good tea takes time to prepare and this is not a reflection on the work ethic of the employees. If I know I'll be in a hurry I call ahead with my order, that way I know it will be ready when I get there. Townshend's - you know I love you and I always will. Thank you for being my teahouse.

This place is dirty. They do have a good selection of tea but the service is varied. You can never be sure if you are going to catch these guys on a lazy day where they don't even move from their stools to help. It isn't unusual to wait 20+ minutes to get your tea. And if you order food plan on waiting 30+ minutes for a toasted bagel and cream cheese.

The long list of teas is one of the largest in Oregon, and is the best selection in Bend period.
The employees are usually upbeat and fun, and love to talk about tea. The artistry is usually good, but can be excellent depending on who makes the tea. There are two or three employees that really know what they're doing, and I trust my tea life with them.
I find the roasted Mate Guarana Chai, if made correctly, is my favorite drink.
The atmosphere is cozy, but can get loud because the place is usually packed. Great local artwork for sale can be found on the walls.

I was recently in Townshend's where an employee admitted they had written all the good reviews on this site. So, I thought I should share a real opinion. Granted, I have had my fair share of good experiences from this place but they are far a few these days. Once they got rid of their manager things have really gone down hill fast. The place is dirty! The employees don't seem to care anymore. What happened to our favorite tea place? If you want inconsistent tea, poor customer service, and an extremely long wait, this is the place for you.

The tea is good but I agree, the service isn't there anymore. The staff went from friendly and invested to distant and uninterested. I'd rather get my tea from somewhere else in town. If you're visiting town there are a lot of great coffee shops downtown that will give you a much better experience.

This place has gluten free and vegan pastries! The staff is awesome! A bit of turnover lately but the new guys seem to be learning fast. You will not be disappointed with this place. Don't come in a rush, tea takes time! I go to this place a few times a week and have never had a problem with the anyone working there. #13 is my favorite!

So I don't visit in the evenings, but in the morning is the best time to go to this place. It's quiet and costumer service rocks. I go there a lot and so I'm known there, and ever time I go it's a blast. I got there as soon as they opened one morning and just talked and had fun with one of the employees. (I forget her name sorry, but she rocks!) AWESOME PLACE!!!

Is it just me or has this place been over run by teenagers. Both drinking and serving tea. Alex is the only great employee left. Other than him the service is terrible. Tea is supposed to be relaxing this place is a nightmare. If I were you I would visit the local coffee shops that offer tea. Jacksons Corner, Lone Pine, Thump, Backpoarch, really anywhere but Townshends.

I agree Sarah Huburd (?) makes the best Chai in town and she knows all about the customers. But I don't see her anymore. So much for ordering a chai from townshends anymore. I used to think the service was great but it is lacking now. Great tea selection. Great hours. Great Art. But if you are there for the service you are in the wrong place.

Fantastic Tea house. I recently went in and was surprised by the knowledge of the employee's. I am now a regular. If you want the best chai in town ask for Sarah she is always friendly and willing to help you choose through the extensive tealist. You will recognize her if you look for the tallest girl in the room. I LOVE TOWNSHENDS!

What I love about Townshend's is the aroma of teas as you enter, the original artwork on the walls, ecletic music choices, friendly, helpful staff and the fact that the demographics of Bend are represented. It's a great place to relax with a good book, to talk with friends, have a meeting or simply to enjoy one of the many varieties from the tea selection. If you haven't checked it out...you should!

Nearly always bustling but still a nice respite from the outside world, Townshend's Bend location is one I visit regularly. The staff seem to vary between cheerful, helpful and friend to distant and aloof, depending on who is working that day. A bit plus for me are the gluten free pastries from a local bakery.

The simple little teahouse on Bond Street in Bend is the addition many have waited for. Townshend's carries over 100 teas, all of the highest caliber. The menu includes an extensive collection of blacks, greens, oolongs, rooibos, herbal tisanes, and even mate. The owner is extremely selective in which teas he chooses to buy, and never settles for anything a connoisseur may deem subpar. Townshend's is rather modern in atmosphere, but clearly works to uphold tea tradition and practice to present each customer with a splendid cup of tea.
