10-10-12 My friend and I are from the Bay Area in California and enjoy going to different tearooms on our travels. I was surprised to find a Victorian Tearoom in Kailua. A Cup of Tea was WONDERFUL! The staff, the ambience and the food were GREAT! A Cup of Tea is at the top of our list to revisit and next time we are in Kailua. This tearoom was the first to offer more sandwiches which was nice and we have been too several tearooms over the years. They always offer more tea but not more food. We HIGHLY recommend A Cup of Tea!! Enjoy!

Just visited A Cup of Tea for the first time. This beautiful tea room just made our day! The service was great and the food very tasty! The scones were the best I have had here in the islands! It is well worth the price! Can't wait to go back! PS:The Potatoe Soup was to die for!

I am never disappointed when I go to A Cup of Tea!We had such a delightful time. Our servers and the owner was so friendly. I have to say that it was the best service I have ever had at a tea room! The food was absolutely wonderful. We had the Lady Tiffany and it was well worth it! This beautiful tea room is the highlight of Kailua!

I was just notified by a friend that MahealaniG left a review here that accuses me of 'jealousy' because I gave a just and poor review of this tea shop. What in the world would I, or anyone else, have to be 'jealous' of? Overcharging customers and providing a poor product? Just about anyone can do that...as this tea shop proves.

Thank you to A Cup of Tea once again for such a delightful afternoon! As usual, the food was fabulous. No surprise there that they won 'Best New Restaurant in Hawaii' by the Honolulu Advertiser! I have been to this tea room on many occassions and have always had great food, excellent service and the owner goes out of her way to make you feel at home! Although I was born and raised in Hawaii my mum is originally from England. She absolutely adores A Cup of Tea! It also is adored by the professional food critics who have reviewed this lovely establishment in the local newspapers! Shame on anyone who criticizes this fabulous tea room! The word 'stingy' in the review before mine is utterly false and sooooo very untrue! How can this person be so ignorant and unkind? Could it be an underlying reason for it? Jealousy perhaps? Just keep up the excellent work A Cup of Tea, you are truly the best!!

Having just returned from a long trip to England, my friend became very interested in tea service and took me here to try it out. We both agreed it was not worth the price. They are quite stingy with their portions, and one has to continually ask for more tea. This business is 'not in good standing' with the state gov of Hawaii, and it's easy to see why.

I have to say that I can't stop raving about this place- and moreover, I CANNOT believe that some people have any negative comments to express. I brought my 2yo niece to have a special 'ladies lunch,' and the lovely hostess did not so much as flinch at a 2yo entering her beautifully decorated tea room. In fact, everyone from the hostess to the waitress to the chef made my little niece feel special. They were BEYOND lovely every step of the way, and the chef even brought my niece her own cookies fresh out of the oven! The food was good- especially the salad dressing (which I bought and am OBSESSED with!). Regardless of the food, the people at this little tea room made the experience unforgettable and I will definitely be going back hopefully time and time again!

Congatulations to A Cup of Tea for winning the 'Best New Restaurant In Hawaii' by the Honolulu Advertiser. You certainly well deserve the honors! We have been to this lovely tea room on many occasions since moving here from New York! We also had our daughters wedding shower here and it was absolutely delightful! We only wish that we had another daughter to do another bridal shower here. . let's hope to do perhaps a baby shower soon! The owner and staff are so gracious and very service oriented. No matter where you go, you just can't seem to please everyone, but we have to tell you all out there in tea land, this place is the best! We have NEVER left there hungry or unsatisfied with their service. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is amazing and the service is fantastic. . .Hence the Best New Restaurant in Hawaii. . .See you at a Cup of Tea!

I came as part of a group and felt so bad for our hostess. Judging from the reviews this place is nothing if not inconsistent. Average food and very little of it. Our hostess was constantly having to ask the server to take care of her guests. She had very little time to enjoy herself. Needless to say, nobody from our group will go there again, let alone host friends there.

I recently had a wedding shower at A Cup of Tea. All of the staff were so very kind to us. I could not have asked for a better party! The food was great. We had the Princess Heather. We had more than enough to eat. Thank you for such a special day. Too bad the person who did the last review was so critical. We have been to this tea room on several occassions and never were we ever served just 3 triangle sandwiches or stale scones. . .shame on this last person to be so critical. . .We will absolutely be coming back! Thank You A Cup of Tea for being so special!

What a ripoff! $20 + tax & tip for 2 miserable, quarter-sized, stale scones, 3 sandwich triangles, average tea, 3 tiny 'bites' of sweet, & YELLOW Devonshire cream? If you like doilies, you might at least enjoy the 'atmosphere' of this space in a medical building. I've been missing a good English tea since I left the mainland four years ago. Most of the tea rooms I've been to in Hawaii don't quite 'get it' but the tea here was amazing and the hostess and waitress were both so kind that it made me forget where I was! It was a tad pricey but I forgot that once the food was brought. Good portions and very tasty. It's worth the trip to Kailua!

I have to tell you that my friends and I had the best time at this lovely tea room this past weekend. The food was excellent as usual! I have visited this tea room on at least three other occassions. We all loved the scones and sandwiches. We all agreed that the price is exceptional in lieu of all the food that we had and compared to some other places that we have visited. The staff and owner was very friendly and hospitable. We can't wait to go back again.

Recommended to this tea room by a fellow Brit but had to disagree after miserable experience. Exorbitant price for scant array, and perhaps someone ought to check the expiration date on the cream jar? Buy some cream for yourself at R. Field and bake some FRESH scones. Criminal waste of $47. In this economy??

I felt compelled to write a review due to the multiple exceptional experiences we've enjoyed at A Cup of Tea. We live on Oahu and my wife loves the atmosphere (and the food and tea!) and convinced me to join her. Since then it’s been a regular stop for us, and our out-of-town guests always love the experience (in fact, they seem to take more pictures in the tea room than anywhere else!). Although the atmosphere is delicate, men can also feel comfortable in the tea room. The soup and sandwiches are delicious and the leaf teas are quite tasty. I’ve also only experienced the best and friendliest service by the hostesses and wait staff.

I visited the tea room whilst on vacation a couple of weeks ago and had a charming time. I read the last couple of reviews and my experience was completely opposite. The decor of the tea room is very pretty, all pink, flowery and lacy. The tea selection very extensive and good tasting. The scones were orange cream and came with a home made lemon curd. We had a variety of 3 times of sandwiches, the veggie was particularly yummy. Also a delicious bread pudding. We had a sweet and efficient waitress, even the owner came over for a hello. So i would definitely recommend you make a stop off in Kalilua

Went to this tea room today. The ambiance of the place is nice and appropriate as a 'tea room.' However, the service was terrible. When we first walked in, the hostess did not really acknowledge us as she was on the phone and we waited quite long to be acknowledged and served. We waited and waited before the waitress took our order and waited again quite long between courses.....in fact the tea got cold in the pot and had to be 'reheated.'

The food was also a disappointment. The tiny scones, were not scones but more like ready made buns. The sandwiches were ok and I think the pound cake was the best thing offered today. I would suggest hiring more help so that customers can be given faster and more personalized service. Improve on the quality of the food if you're going to charge $25 and more and improve on the customer service. This tea room is definitely overrated!

I must agree with a previous reviewer and say that I've never had a worse tea experience. I've been to tea in many places, here on the island, as well as on the mainland and in England. I thought the server was joking when she brought a 'tray' of scones, consisting of two hard, dry bite-sized cakes. When I asked for cream, I was told that 'most people don't like it'. It's high tea, for heaven's sake! 3 triangles of tuna fish sandwich do not a 'meal' make. And for $20? To say I was embarrassed (I brought a guest from England) is an understatement. I too was told that I'd had the scones included in the price (all 2 tiny ones) when I asked for more. Terrible experience. There are many fine tea services available on the island. Don't waste your time and money here.

Its funny to see how people post reviews. Never had a problem at this tea house. Service has always been great, food has been tasty and I love the tea. The atmosphere is what really makes it, a place to get away. Don't let one persons bad day be a conclution you make of A Cup Of Tea....I am bring my friend there for the first time for her Birthday. I will let you know what she thinks....

My friends and I have been to tea houses all around the world, and this tea house by far is the most disappointing. we made reservations for 1:00 and when we got there our table was not ready for 30 minuets. The tea house only had about 20 guest and most of the tables were empty. Finally, seated we gave our orders unfortunately our server seemed terribly confused with having to do 3 separate checks. when our server unraveled our order she brought out 'scones'. however these were not real scones but rather cake like cookies. However they were appetizing. soon our tea pots were brought. Not being hungry I just ordered scones and tea for $10. I waited 20 minutes for my scones and finally I had to ask my server for my scones. She was very snipy and stated that I had eaten them already! She pointed out that she had brought out a tray. But you see she had brought out the tray before I had even order; therefore I assumed it was an appetizer for my friends and I to share. she rolled her eyes and briskly walked into the kitchen. 10 minutes later she brought out a plate of 2 cake 'scones'. I was horrified I thought I was going to have authentic scones instead of a tiny appetizer. Though this wasn't nearly as horriable as the moment I lifted the metal top off the glass lemon curd jar. The metal top was rusty inside and the sides of the glass jar was crusty! I don't care to share the rest of that disappointing experience. All I can say is take your business elsewhere because the staff and owner are not friendly nor are the prices fair for the poor food that is served. P.S.

the tea pots and teacups that are used @ a cup of tea are stone were from walmart. Not what you would expect at any teahouse unless it's for ladies 10 and under.

On Feb. 14th my Valentine took me to 'A Cup of Tea' in Kailua for dinner. It was wonderful. The atmosphere (like stepping into a 3D

Victorian Valentin) set the stage for a romantic evening.

The food was delicious (Hats off to

the Chef), and served graciously. Priced under $50.oo, the proprietor,

was a 'darling' to us all.

Take my advice and treat your friends to 'High Tea' or to one

      of the special events...Like Easter!

This afternoon was an absolute delight; my experience at A Cup of Tea was wonderful! The food and atmosphere were absolutely superb, but most importantly, the owner, Darlene, was extremely welcoming, friendly, and made us feel right at home. The Christmas decor is outstanding. Aloha, I just had the most relaxing and wonderful afternoon at 'A Cup of Tea'. The service was exceptional and food and tea were excellent. The decor is now down in a Christmas theme. Darlene, the owner, makes you feel like you are in her own home. If you live in Kailua, please stop by. If you don't live in Kailua, the trip is well worth making over the mountain to visit and have a cup of tea. Also visit their gift boutique. I have some of my Japanese clay handmade flowers. Just had to put in that plug.

An absolute delight! This was my first 'commercial' tea, I have been to several 'private' teas, and although I was a bit hesistant, I was thoroughly pleased with everything from the atmosphere, table settings, to the service rendered. We were even able to get some shopping done while others in our party lingered over cups of tea. The presentation of the teas and food were nothing short but 'candy to the eyes'. Although I didn't care for the green tea ice cream, its' presentation was picture pretty! The petite dessert recipes need work on. The flavors were not vibrant nor distinct enough. One didn't stand out from the other. However, the effervesant host and the entire experience is well worth a return visit. I look forward to your Christmas events!
