  • British Pantry

I went to the British Pantry on 06/08/2009 with my sister and a friend who was originally from Chelsea, England, to experience an actual British tea. My British friend was very disappointed to find the Earl Grey tea in the teapot was made from teabags. The service was abominably slow for a Sunday afternoon, 20 minutes to get tea, and 1/2 hr for the food. The food consisted of sandwiches cut into small triangles (egg salad, chicken salad, cucumber, and lunchmeat). The sandwiches were just OK. The scones were wonderful - but only one per person. The desserts were small and not memorable. The women at the table next to ours ordered an additional scone, and the waitress replied it would cost additionally. Since the tea was $24.99 per person, we thought the cost was exorbitant for the amount and quality of food and tea. To charge extra for an additional scone was ridiculous and petty. I will not return to this tea room, and I certainly do not recommend it to anyone. Prices are exorbitant and the presentation and service are much below average. They had no music playing and the entire experience was just average. I was so disappointed for my British friend, who had been looking forward to this unique experience. She was gracious and grateful, but like me, felt very let down. Had it cost $10 or $15 it would have been tolerable. But at $24.99 each, it was so disappointing.

    Tearoom response:

I recently purchased the pantry and have made very positive changes from the ground up. The afternoon tea is still $24.99, but there will be plenty to take home, no additional charge if you would love another scone, I hope you'll give us another chance - Lisa, Owner
