Wow! Every time I go to Miss Spenser's Teahouse, everything gets better and better! The Ceylon tea was wonderful and Donna brewed a special pot of decaf for the lady seated with my friend and me because it was in the evening and that was great tasting as well. The table settings are always gorgeous and how do they make those delectable scones?! Spenser was great as Anne of Green Gables and just the gracious hostess. The setting, (a private home) the food (fantastic) and the tea (wonderful) and best of all this mother daughter team provide a wonderful experience that you won't forget. The Red Hat Renegades had a wonderful time at Miss Spenser's on June 7. The home is beautiful, the hospitality was warm and welcoming. We were served Ceylon tea (whole leaf) from India. The menu items were attractive and scrumptious! Miss Spenser herself is very talented and brought Anne of Green Gables to life for us. The service was excellent and the Country-Victorian theme was carried through extremely well. We would recommend this tearoom to all. The short drive from Des Moines was well worth the time spent at Miss Spenser's.

This was one of the most delightful experiences I've had in a long time, and I'm not really the 'tea party' type!(or so I thought) However, I love history, being pampered, and good food and this is the place for all of the above. These ladies are two of the most talented and delightful I've met in a long time and they truly research the theme of their party, entertain you musically, dramatically and certainly, 'tastefully' in the full sense of the word. Wow! What an experience. From the moment Lady Donna and Miss Spenser welcomed us into their charming home until we had to say good-bye, it was beyond enjoyable! Their home is warm and inviting with a bit of whimsical to add to the overall atmosphere that reflects the family's personality.
The tables were beautifully set, and the food was delicious. Miss Spenser entertained us during our meal with some Irish stories. We were even blessed when Miss Spenser played the harp for us. She is truly a skilled harpist.
Our PT Cruiser Red Hat Group attended the St. Patrick's Tea on Thursday, March 13th, and it is an experience I would highly recommend to anyone who has not attended. If you have attended one of Miss Spenser's Special Teas in the past, you know this is no 'BLAR... (more)NEY'!! You just don't want to miss out on the opportunity to meet two very special people, who are very talented and make your time at their Tea Room memorable!
And, by the way, the Assam's 'Luck of the Irish' tea is beyond good! I am a die hard coffee drinker, but I went away with some 'Luck of the Irish' and 'Sunday's Best' tea!

Donna is such a friendly, warm person. I feel right at home in her house, except it is much more beautifully decorated than mine! Spenser is fun and lively with her performances which are in tune with the theme of the tea party, and adds to the variety and spirit of the day. The costumes are cute and the table settings are very Victorian and lovely. The ladies must have a whole room for glassware and dinner service. Guests are invited to join in the fun and dress according to the program as well, so if you had dress-up tea parties as a little girl this is the place for you. I have attended several events at Miss Spenser's and look forward to each upcoming event with eager anticipation. The food is always extraordinary and not the usual tea room fare. Lady Donna experiments with recipes until she comes up with the perfect foods as well as decorations, and favors to compliment the theme of the tea and her presentation of them is always beautiful! I purchased her newly published cookbook and am looking forward to trying some of her recipes. I have bought some of her scone mixes in the past and they are easy to prepare and delicious. My daughters, ages 6 and 12, and I love attending teas at Lady Donna and Miss Spenser's lovely country home and tea room. They do a wonderful job of making you feel comfortable and special. The little girls love being ladies and participating in their informative programs. Rachael, 12, loves when Miss Manners comes to tea to inform the young ladies at mother-daughter events. I personally love all the events that I have attended at their lovely home, (I have lost count). The tea pot is always flowing and the dainties are so scrumptious... The tables and home are always decorated to suit the theme of the tea.
I could go on and on... I would like to add a note about Miss Spensers play acting and harp playing though. She can make you laugh or tear up with either. She is a very gifted youn... (more)g lady. Also, Lady Donna was born to be a hostess and cook. I always go home feeling pampered and refreshed not to mention full. I would recommend the experience to anyone.
When the event is over you can take a little of it home by purchasing loose tea to enjoy. My girls and I have our own little teas at home with the flavorful teas that we have purchased from these ladies.

Lady Donna and Miss Spencer do a wonderful presentation of tea, food and victorian programs in their home. They research each one and present them very creatively. Miss Spenser sews her own attire and is a beautiful seamstress. Donna researches and makes different food items each month. Her presentation of the food is wonderful and very tasty.
My Red Hat group has attended one of their programs. It was enjoyed by all and we would highly recommend other Red Hatters to book an event with them.

I'm so glad to have a public forum to thank you for the past year of exquisite tea guild parties. Miss Spenser's flair for the dramatic and Lady Donna's attention to every detail combine for a truly memorable experience. Each and every 'tea theme' is well researched and creatively presented. Miss Spenser even brought me to tears with her recicitation from Karen Blixen's 'Out of Africa.' Every menu and themed program is truly a work of art.

Lady Donna and Miss Spenser did a remarkable job. It was obvious they spent alot of time to research and prepare. I attended a Titantic Tea they presented. Miss Spenser's acting drew you right into the story and made you believe she was really part of history. The food was excellent, the table decor whas fantastic! Exciting News...we have just committed to another Mother's Day Tea Event there this year on May 10, 2008. The program selected is Tea With Queen Victoria. I traveled from Tennessee to Iowa to surprise my mom for a Mother's Day Titanic Tea at my mom's church in Cedar Rapids. I have never been to a tea of this kind. Miss Spenser and her mother, Lady Donna, are incredibly talented. They were entertaining and creative hostesses. I would definitely recommend to many others.

Lady Donna and Miss Spenser are incredibly entertaining and the quality of the teas served is excellent! We just had them at a Simpson Guild event on the Simpson College campus. Our Guild has a 'Passport to the World' theme for the year and we all enjoyed a colorful and fascinating story of tea from its beginnings to its debut into English Society during the Victorian Era. We had an authentic tea tasting sampling and learning about black, oolong, green and white teas, and then a wonderful time at an authentic English Tea complete with costumes and 'special visitors'. Very impressive! Lady Donna and Miss Spenser are highly talented, most knowledgeable, very gracious and fun, fun, fun! It was great for our group also to slow down our pace and relax over a cup of tea. Many of us purchased some of their excellent loose leaf teas to enjoy at home. The taste was far superior to your usual tea bag fare. Highly recommended for an event you'd like to make extra 'special'!

I have attended events presented by this mother/daughter duo, and highly recommend it. The food is excellent, and the play/program most entertaining. Both mother and daughter are excellent actors, and the script (written by the mother) is very well done. Just wish they were closer to Des Moines so I could attend more of their events.
