The atmosphere is inviting and they are in a nice historical building. The first time I went we had their Victorian Tea and I was very disappointed. Their tomato sandwich is a slice of tomato with American cheese on white bread. The raisin scone was the best part. However, I was surprised by their use of packaged goods - crackers, cheese slices and caramel cookies - served right on the 3 tiered plates. The dusty fake flowers and plastic solo cups that the lemon curd and clotted cream were served in should be done away with. Their limited selection of teas was also disappointing and what they did serve was rather average. I wanted to try it again to give them another chance because they do seem like nice people and the second time it was much better. I just ordered off their lunch menu: Quiche and soup. Go but order off the lunch menu and don't try to get too fancy.

I to have been going to the Englis Rose for several years and enjoy greatly. Since the recent (2012)ownership change they have had less European grocery items, which is a disipointment, however the staff has remained and the tea and food are still of great quality. I brim with excitement when i think of having High Tea or Lunch at The English Rose.

I have visited The English Rose for over 8 years and have always enjoyed the quaint and relaxing atmosphere. The recent owner has added new loose leaf teas and more lunch specials. The Cottage Pie is my favorite, followed by Bangers and Mash with their scrumptous mashed potatoes. The Afternoon Tea service is always a favorite for a treat or celebration.

An authentic English afternoon tea is served. All of the food is excellent! Most of the staff is British, and will educate on how to take your afternoon tea if you are a newcomer to the finer touches of tea. Parties here are also excellent!

With the exception of one tea, this tea room serves only bag tea! That is like a coffee house serving instant coffee. They didn't even have a tea menu and the waitress struggled to name their teas. Definately not my idea of a tea room.

I went to The English Rose wit my mother and brother today and we got the afternoon and Victorian tea. Though there is only one tea *served* at The English Rose, there are plenty of teas for sale at the gift shop as you walk in. The atmosphere is lovely. Many tea cups cover the walls and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's portrait is on the wall over the fireplace, very lovely. The food is very good; I did not have the chance to try everything, but there are many classic British foods on the menu which I would have loved to try. The gift shop is a lovely place. There are lots of tea cups and tea pots. There's probably twenty different varieties of teaspoons one can buy too. Over all it was a wonderful experience and I look forward to going again.

My friend and I went to the English Rose last Friday - the day of the Royal Wedding. How fun! The tea room was jam packed with ladies, adding to the excitement of the day, there was a flat-screen TV brought in to run coverage of the wedding festivities, and then for dessert, they had the recipe for Prince William's groom's cake, which was delicious! Such a fun and festive day! I am a regular at the English Rose, and highly recommend it.

I have read some negative reviews but I honestrly don't see it. I have been to the English tea room several times and it has been wonderful! I, personally, don't like tea, but I order diet Coke. Everyone I have gone with orders tea and have no complaints. The food is wonderful! I'm a firm believer in if you treat the servers nice in a restaurant you will be extended the same courtesy

I love the English Rose and visit numerous times each year. One thing I'm noticing in some of the reviews is that they 'only have 1 tea choice.' I'd like to point out that a friend of mine from England educated me on the fact that when you visit a 'real' British tearoom, you are not given a list of tea choices, typically offered in more Victorian tea rooms. A tea for the day is chosen, and that's what you get. This is simply evidence of the English Rose being an authentic British tearoom. I hope that is helpful.

While there is only one kind of tea offered, it is delicious. (I can't remember the name, but it is the same kind my brother was served during his time at Oxford.) The atmosphere is calm, and not overly girly. I have been with several men, and they were all comfortable. The service was good. The best part of the experience was the food. I've been there for lunch several times, and every time the food has been to die for. I particularly enjoy the Dover Sole. I already have recommended The English Rose to friends, and many of them have been and recommended it to their friends.

The English Rose is probably a nice place for lunch or early dinner, but I would not recommend ever having a large party here. I contacted them to hold a bridal shower, and they said that they would absolutely be able to handle a large party. This was categorically not true. The food was fine, there was only one type of tea (we'd been promised iced and hot, which we didn't receive), and when it came to attempting to pay, it was a circus. The manager, Clare, was a disaster. She was totally unorganized, could not figure out how much to charge anyone, and in the end I paid nearly $50 more than the price I'd been quoted at the beginning of the party. I will never go back to this place and recommend that you don't either, unless you want to be ripped off.

My husband and i went to this tearoom and had a wonderful time! The scones are fabulous and the rest of the food was very good. We had soup along with a 3-tiered tray. We were very full. The tea service was very nice and they served it very well. We will definitely return!!

This was such a relaxing experience that we did not realize it had begun to storm outside! The food was delicious and, while we weren't offered a choice, the tea was delicious. The service was excellent and not intrusive. I would definitely go back and recommend it to my friends.

The food is great, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the tea (the only tea selection offered) is delicious. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to the English Rose due to the fact that I was treated very rudely by one of the servers - a dark haired, british woman. I may have been able to overlook this once incident if it had been the first time I had trouble with this particular person, but it was not. Each time this person served my party there was at least one moment of unpleasantness. The owner is very warm and polite, as are all the other employees that I have interacted with. While I will not be returning to the English Rose, I would recommend it to others - just do not let that woman push you around.

My sister hosted a baby shower here. My 10 year old niece and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We both loved the tea, even had a 2nd pot! Everyone was wonderful, especially the owner who was so nice, explained the foods & customs of the Brit tea. She made us feel so welcome. Everything, especially the tea & scones, DELICIOUS! We plan to make it a regular part of our trips to Chattanooga!

I came all the way from Ohio to have a spot of tea! I frequent Chattanooga often and always wanted to stop in, so I made a special trip just to go to the tea room. It was more than I expected, absolutely delightful. I have never had scones before and I feel like if I try to get them anywhere else now, they won't live up to the English Tea Room scones. I will be visiting every month now on my travel.

I was fortunate enough to live approximately 40 miles from the English Rose Tea Room before I got married. It's my favorite place to go in Chattanooga and the best tea room I've ever been in. Angela, the owner, makes everyone feel like she's invited us to tea in her own home! The tea and food are wonderful, and I always feel so pampered and 'dainty' every time I go. I still have the pleasure of having the tea room close by whenever I visit with my parents.

My husband and I noticed this little tearoom while touring Chattanooga. It was about 4 so I suggested we go in and try to get just a cup. We were so surprised and glad to find tea served just like a typical English tearoom and we both enjoyed it a great deal. He commented that most American tearooms are too fussy, but that he had felt right at home. It's been years since we were in Britain, and 30 years since we immigrated, but this place has got it down to an art.Loved it!

The English Rose serves tea in true 'British style'. The tea comes in a proper teapot, steaming from the freshly drawn and boiled water, and accompanied by low fat milk so as not to overpower the delicious brown nectar! These little touches are so very important, and make all the difference when taking the first sip from that anticipated cup. Angela, the owner, doesn't take any short cuts on the menu either. They don't serve 'fake' cream with the scones, it's the real Double Devon, and if you order a British Banger, by golly that’s what you get! There are enough items on the carefully chosen menu to satisfy all, even the less adventurous. Although the ambience is reminiscent of the elegance expected in tearooms of 'yesteryear'....no feather bowers, posh hats or gloves required here...just sit, relax and enjoy a traditional experience, with an honest to goodness, 'pukka cuppa'!

A truly British tea! The tea served is very common British tea (PG Tips) that tastes great with milk and sugar/honey and is served beautifully with scones, lemon curd and devon cream. I love the food, and I can even get my husband to eat here with me due to the hearty lunch selections.

It is the one and only tearoom worth visiting that offers a great cup of tea. The owner and all the staff know how to offer hospitality and have the essesnce of what a tearoom should be. It is worth a drive to this lovely place.

My Husband and I recently visited English Rose for lunch on our 11th wedding anniversary. Their lunch menu has something for everyone from the man of the house to the afternoon tea drinker! Their victorian tea is quite lovely. Their use of a tea cozy kept my tea perfect through the entire meal. I'll certainly be back with friends and family again soon. If you love British foods, be sure to browse through the shop - tons of British goodies to be found.

The staff is very friendly (but Brits are pretty much known for that, yeah?)and I was so excited to see my chocolate digestives there! I just hope you will also sell the plain digestivess (for dipping in my tea!). Love, love Andrew, much luck to you in all you do and I hope we get to chat with you again! Cheers! Ta ta til next time! I was feeling down in the dumps one cold weary day in January. I dropped into the English Rose Tea Room, was greeted by a very friendly lady with a smile; ordered some tea and sandwiches, they were so good I made a second order) my server was so polite and professional. You all are the best. I walked in looking beat. You rushed over with a pot of tea and sandwiches to perk me up and it did. This is a great no nonsense tearoom without silly hats, but with proper tea. If you are looking for a British tearoom that will make you feel like you jumped the pond, don't go anywhere else.

This tea room was a pure joy. You sit at your own wonderfully decorated table set with Royal Albert wares (Old Country Rose...my Favorite!). The host/hostesses are all British which makes the experience even better. My husband and I had the Afternoon Tea which consisted of a raisin scone, cream, six finger sandwiches, a couple of jams, an assortment of biscuits (cookies for Americans) and a lovely pot of tea. As you eat and enjoy the complany of your companinion, you can't help but look around. A painting of the Queen hangs to one side of the room while the stairs are lined with a variety tea pots, cups and saucers (you can buy them!). Lace hangs in the windows as well as from the tables. I can't brag enough about this place. If you love tea, tea pots or just need a place to relax from the normal everyday grind, give this place a try. You won't be disapointed.

My daughter and I have just returned from New Orleans indulging ourselves in afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton. It was lovely, but I believe our own English Rose is the best. I like the tea sandwiches and scones. There's a good balance. If not careful, one can have too many sweets. Servicing with the tea cozy is also truly British. - Esther Taj 8/13/05

What a wonderful place! I am from Chattanooga and dine here often, whether it's 'just' for tea, or for an all-out meal. It's such a unique, special place--so much more than a mere restaurant--with great food and an even better staff. Don't miss the Victorian Christmas Tea if you're in town mid-December. (Reservations required.) It's a multi-course extravaganza, complete with the staff singing Christmas carols between courses. Delightful!
