Being english, it is a true delight to find an authentic 'tearoom' in my new hometown! I had a fabulous lunch there with friends and although I don't personally drink tea, my companions both enjoyed theirs immensely. Extremely generous portions and every mouthful a tasty delight. This is a fun, ecclectic and unique place that keeps your eyes as well as your stomach happy and entertained! Tana is a warm hostess happy to meet and serve you

As a mother of 5, we are always looking for magical places to visit. Tanalee's Tea and Sympathy Tea Room is by far the most wonderful shop not only for amazing Creme Brulee lattes, but also for decadent hot chocolates! You have 6 loyal customers for life!

      Tearoom response:

Kim, You are so sweet and your words mean so much. Your kids were so appreciative and that made my day:) It is a pleasure to serve all of you any time.

I adore Tanalee's 'Tea&Sympathy'. Everything about it. The exquisite edibles and teas, the visual delights, the ambiance, and Tana herself. She provides true enjoyment and relaxation in an atmosphere of beauty, food and tea artistry and sincerity. Thank you!

      Tearoom response:

Jaime, Thank you for the kind, kind words. You are one of those customers that I feel a kindred spirit connection with, in that you were able to relax and visit and enjoy the whole atmosphere of the tea room. That is so touching and enjoyable to witness and share. Thanks for visiting and becoming a friend. Tana

As a bed&breakfast owner in town, I can unequivocally say that everyone I send here LOVES it (and that includes me,as well, as I wouldn't recommend if I weren't a satified customer myself). This place is magical and Tana's unique self is a magical hostess. Y'all should go!

      Tearoom response:

Shawn, Your support means so much to me. Thank you! As fellow business owners, we understand the importance of making our customers happy and I am honored that you entrust them to me when they are staying at your B&B. Tana

I can't say enough positive things about this tearoom. It's all just great. I go in and ask for some 'lunch and tea' and know that whatever Tanalee is in the mood to serve me, it will be special. It's a friendly place to hang out for area restaurants and for visitors alike.

      Tearoom response:

Carol, If a week goes by with out seeing you then it is truly my loss! Thank you for being a loyal customer and more so, for becoming a friend, in the process. Your trust in me and allowing me to serve you means more than you could know. Thank you! Tana

I cannot recommend Tannlee's Tea and Sympathy enough. True magic happens There. My 50th birthday wish recently was to have High Tea with 8 of my friends. Thanks to Tannlee the Tea Fairy, my birthday Tea party was so much fun. The food was great, the tea was so wonderful and the flourless cake was to die for. We all wore antique hats and we were able to just relax, visit, cut loose and have the best tea and food around. The birthday tiara was given to me which I will pass on to my friends this year when we get together for the 'Birthday Club' High Tea at Tannalee's. This is the start of a new tradition for us which we are all looking forward to! Many thanks to Tannalee, Tyler and Ed for working so hard to create such a wonderful experience for us all and for making my birthday wish come true beyond my wildest dreams. We'll be back.... I cannot wait!

      Tearoom response:

Eva, thank you for the very kind words. Your friends were so delightful and we really had a great time laughing right along with all of you. It was an honor to help you celebrate your 50th -woohoo! Can't wait to have your friends back again as I am sure it will be another 'serious' time:) Tanalee

This is the only tea room I have been to, but it is all I imagined they should be. Romantic traditional decor and tableware, beautiful food, and excellent service. My favorite is the Parisian lunch with Earl Grey tea.

I returned to Tanalee's with two of my 'bestest' friends...this following the 80th birthday celebration of my Mom where as you can see in the photos a whole flock of my relatives enjoyed an afternoon tea. This recent visit was more intimate and quiet and the weather outside was chilly and damp. We could not have had a more delightful afternoon tea. Tanalee was her usual welcoming self and very tolerant of our sense of humor! I cannot speak highly enough of the atmosphere Tana has created in her little tearoom and the only thing that may surpass that is her tea and food offerings. I dearly love this place!

      Tearoom response:

Carol, I had to respond to your comment regarding your sense of humor - it left me laughing all day long! Whether it be you alone or with your friends or family, you are a true delight. I am so glad you entrusted me to host your Mother's party and your second tea party. Let's hope there are many more tea parties to celebrate 'anything' your heart desires. hugs, Tana

Tanalee's Tea & Sympathy is a fantastic experience that everyone should taste. Its warm cheery atmosphere and charming hostess made our last visit an absolute delight. The decor was stylish, interesting and somewhat playful in its arrangement. The food delicious and prettily displayed. But what ultimately won us over was how engaging and jovial our hostess was. She made sure we were happy with our tea choice and even took the time to have a chat with us. This little tea house has won our hearts and we know you will enjoy it as well. Whether you are with a friend or wish to enjoy a short retreat from all the hussle and bussle of the holidays stopping by there will certainly brighten your day.

Tana's Tea Room was coy and very cute. I loved the decoations!! Tana is a very sweet lady who made my friend and I feel very welcome. She made sure we were comfortable and enjoyed ourselves. One of the desserts she made was absolutely fantastic. She admitted to having made it on the spot. If she can prepare something that wonderful on the spot, she is an artist indeed!

I love Tanalee's Tea and Sympathy! The atmosphere is cheerful and cozy. Tana is a very gracious hostess, and is always ready with a smile and a fantastic sense of humor. The house blend is FABULOUS. I only regret that I no longer live in the area, otherwise I would be at Tana's a few times a week, hanging out on the porch, chatting with dear friends, and partaking of the best chicken salad finger sandwiches I've ever had. Make sure when you go, try on one of Tana's tea lady hats for the full on experience...little finger held aloft of course! Tanalee's is my first stop when I get back to Bastrop for a visit.

      Tearoom response:

To Cynthia and all my beloved customers: Thank you for the kind words, encouragement and for taking the time to leave a review.
Your words are uplifting and your feedback is so important. There is always room for improvement, yes?
People often ask what the 'sympathy' of Tea and Sympathy means and you have all expressed it very clearly. It is about friendship that forms over a pot of tea, making connections face-to-face, sharing tears and laughter with strangers and friends alike.
Thank you to all of you for making the tea room a success (and fun!)

Tanalee

Tea and Sympathy is a wonder little place with a nice, peaceful atmosphere. It has the appearance of a typical british style tea room, which is a nice change of pace from the drab hustle and bustle of modern day America. Tanalee is a sweet and exuberant woman who serves some of the best herbal teas I've ever had, and I've had a lot of tea from many different places. The tea is simply divine and not only that, the food is amazing too! I would recommend the asian wrap or tomato basil soup to anyone looking to try something new while there. Her food is healthy for the most part too, save for the deserts of course. I've already introduced many of my friends to this place, and not one person didn't enjoy themselves. If you're ever in the area near downtown Bastrop, stop by, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

      Tearoom response:

I've been to several tea rooms in California, many of which required a reservation and were 'world renowned'. Tana Lee's 'Tea and Sympathy' in Bastrop, TX outshines them all. My daughter and I ran across this tea room when we were 'window shopping' in Bastrop and decided to 'duck in' from the cool weather to have a cup of tea. The proprietor was wonderfully warm, hospitable and entertaining. The tea was excellent...and the scones were the best I've ever had. The atomosphere is very warm and cozy and if I had a chance to go every day, I would. As it is, I'll just have to settle for a Saturday or two a month. If you are ever in the neighborhood, take some time to drop in, you will enjoy every second!

My daughter Kelsey and I were staying at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines and Resort for our summer vacation. We decided to visit the nearby town of Bastrop, TX. While in an antique store, the merchant told us to be sure and go to the grand opening of Tanalee's Tea and Sympathy. We are so glad we took her advice. It was the highlight of our trip! The tea room was whimsical and quaint. We really felt like we were in another world. The teas we chose were delicious and we enjoyed picking a hat out of the many hanging on the wall, to wear while we enjoyed our tea and fabulous desserts. This place fulfills every little girls dream - to have a tea party! Tanalee is a treasure! We sat and visited with her and within minutes felt like we had known her all our lives. She is a lady you want as a best friend. We stayed longer than we had planned because we just didn't want to leave. Tanalee is very knowledgeable about teas and allowed us to see and smell various teas before making our selections. This is a place we definitely want to return to! I highly recommend this tea room.

I took my nine year old niece, Betsy, to visit my grandmother, Nana, in Smithville. Nana knew that I had been having tea parties since I was a little girl and that Betsy also shared my joy of tea parties. Nana suggested that on our way back to Austin, we stop in Bastrop and check out Tanalee's Tea and Sympathy Tea Room. It was a delightful surprise to find this little oasis of calm and civility in Bastrop. The whimsical furnishings really impressed Betsy. The tea was superb as were the scones with clotted cream. Betsy wants to have her birthday party there with several of her girl friends all dressed up for a proper tea.

      Tearoom response:

      Hi Penny,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and praise. I am so glad you enjoyed your time at the Tea Room.
It will be my pleasure to serve you and Betsy again, in the near future.

Hugs,
Tanalee

My sister and I had a fantastic time at Tanalee's! The ladies were very inviting, and so friendly that we felt like regulars. The food was fantastically light, but filling. I rode all the way back to College Station with my pants unbuttoned. Although I could have stopped eating and drinking at any time, I just didn't want to. The currant tea that was suggested was delicious, and I added it to my list of things I love. The whimsical feeling of the teahouse was the perfect setting for a perfect afternoon. We've decided to drive down to Bastrop once a month for tea.

My recent visit to Tanalee's Tea and Sympathy was both enlightening and enchanting. My friend and I came to Bastrop to spend an afternoon away from Austin. We found the tea room while looking at antique stores. As a recent convert from coffee to tea, I found Tana (the owner) to be educational and well-informed as she recommended teas I might enjoy. She allowed me to see and smell the various teas. Tea and Sympathy has a blend of various fruit teas as their 'house' tea and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The whimsical decor made our visit all the more fun. Everywhere I turned, there was something fun to look at and a story behind every object. Some men may be intimidated in thinking a tea room is for women only. I personally enjoy the old world charm of getting away from technology and enjoying quiet time. After enjoying the lunch special which was either croissants or finger sandwiches with a delicious fruit salad and scone (I had the chicken salad croissants and plan to go back for the Afternoon Tea), We spent time visiting with the owner and another customer on the front porch. We were offered a cup of tea to go which I thought was a nice gesture. When friends or family visit Austin I plan to bring them to Bastrop for tea.

      Tearoom response:

Thanks Nick for being willing to try some new teas and earn your trust :)
It is always a delight to visit with a guest about anything Tea related - and to spend time getting better acquainted. Hope to see you again when your plans bring you back to Bastrop.

Tanalee

Step inside the Wildflower Tea Room and Emporium and you might think you’ve stumbled into a Beatrix Potter Book. Mrs. Tittlemouse would approve of the yummy finger sandwiches, melt-in-your-mouth scones (served with lemon curd and Devonshire cream, oh yes!) and tempting array of desserts which come on 3-tiered servers to accompany properly brewed tea presented in English china pots on warming racks. Enjoying High Tea here will convince you to make time for the finer things in life. The tea never gets cold or runs out, so you can leisurely savor the finger foods and take a breather from our high speed world. Wildflower is right on Hwy 71, convenient for nearby residents and travelers alike. It could become habit forming, but what a lovely habit to have!

I have traveled in the UK extensively and have come to enjoy high tea! One morning I had a craving for high tea so we found Wildflower tea room not too far from Austin. The service was impeccable -- proprieters were friendly and extraordinarily kind. They were attentive and ensured that our time there was an enjoyable one! They do make everything from scratch and that was very pleasant! They had delightful finger sandwiches cut in the shape of butterflies, with egg salad, chicken salad and cucumber as well as small savories, scones and they offered a chocolate fondue for dessert or trifle or italian cream cake, although I think those were for mother's day. It was very riminiscent of a British tea room but with Hill Country Flair, it was a pleasant drive from Austin and I would recommend it to anyone. My only suggestion is to extend the creativity in their sandwiches into more intriguing varieties but that is not to say what they offered was less than excellent -- it was wonderful...but I love unique combinations. I think this tea room will be a hit!
